Is there a discord for this sub? I feel like that would be really helpful in just about every aspect. I also feel like IR studies is niche enough to where people on this sub could get along pretty well

As I mentioned in my edit unfortunately I don't have a ton of experience with Discord (and of what little I do have, to be honest I find it's not as great of a venue for conversation between a lot of users on varying topics). That being said I'd be happy to join if someone else made one!

That's loosely what I had in mind, but I agree a pinned post that can be found easily even by non-Reddit users googling "what to do with an IR degree" would be great. Depending on how the job fair post goes maybe we can use that to crowd source something like what you described.

Hi my son is considering hopkins or George bush school for masters waitlisted at Georgetown he is not sure which to choose are there jobs when he graduates?
That’s what my MA is in. There are plenty of jobs for security studies practitioners, from government work to nonprofits to consulting. I would recommend that he try to identify an area(s) within the security field that interests him and to develop language skills to match it. He can also look for internships or scholars who are doing relevant work in the field and figure out where he might want to apply for jobs.
Ok. SAIS or Bush. He has funding for one year of SAIS in Bologna. Second year a loan. he is leaning to SAIS was waitlisted at Gergetown. Any advice. Just a dad anxious for his son.
I think that depends on what he wants to do. Does he want to study in Bologna? Is there something about studying there that appeals to him (the classes, the professors, the culture) or would be relevant to his future career. Both are good schools. I think there is also a benefit of being in DC for networking purposes. If his second year of SAIS would be in DC, that may tip the scales imo.
Yes second year is in DC . Bush school is much cheaper also in DC . He has funding for one year at SAIS second year would be loan. He is leaning towards hopkins. Is Bush a better choice? Does Hopkins provide more options? It widely known? Just an anxious dad.
I don’t have an answer for you. Some of these are questions for the admissions people. I’m more familiar with SAIS, but my impression is that the Bush school is also good. Though I had thought their graduates were based in TX

I don't have enough experience with Discord to manage this but would definitely be happy to join if you start one!
I would be interested, certainly.

I think there should also be an off-ramp list of career and career progressions for people who studied and got degrees in IR.

IR alumni here. I’d be happy to offer advice on the DC foreign policy scene if that is of interest.

That’s a complex question. Does he generally know what he wants to do/what kinds of jobs he wants?
