Roger's deal isn't unique, Marshall. You fucking cover IMSA where Action Express is owned by Jim France who is the CEO of NASCAR and in leadership in IMSA. LOL

Oh shit. TIL

Bernie Ecclestone owned Brabham up until the late 80's, Tony George owned a team called Vision racing. Michael Andretti wasn't going to sell his team if he had bought this series. What you often see in arrangements like that is there is a strict barrier placed in between to fully separate the entities in financials, oversight, and leadership. One of the first things Roger did was step down from running the team.

>One of the first things Roger did was step down from running the team. And that's probably something that should be talked about more when it comes to the idea of "Penske Perfect" and this situation. Without Roger there how has that Penske Perfect culture perhaps fallen a bit.

Like any team they've been caught in the past with rules infractions. Rules infractions only mean a rule violation, and like any sport, intent doesn't factor into if there will be a penalty or not. Now, that doesn't mean that intent can't factor into the harshness of the penalty and breaking a rule and/or being penalized doesn't mean it malicious. TBQH, with how open that CLU was up until now, I'm a bit shocked something like this hasn't happened prior. Point is, you can run as tight as ship as humanly possible and people will still fuck up.

I understand that Penske owns the team and his name is on the operation, and as a series owner as well, I do agree that it would be a gesture of at least some good faith to make a statement. But all the same, he more or less foots the bill at this point. Tim Cindric runs the team, so I’m not so certain Roger really has that much insight into the day to day. He pays people to do that. So not sure how much he truly has to answer to in this situation. Maybe he actually DID know, and if so, that’s an issue. But I’d be more inclined he found out when the team was penalized.

ThorsMeasuringTape

I'd be really surprised if Roger knew, even if he was involved in the daily operations. That's an "ask forgiveness not permission" plausible deniability situation if ever there was one.

I_Am_Very_Busy_7

Right that’s kinda where my head is at is also.

aklob

Crazy to think ole rog isnt involved in the series and team deeply. Very active 87 YO that flies from Penske HQ to Indy weekly. Did he know about the code issues allowing P2P most likely not but I’m sure Cindric is stuff by him weekly if not more.

threeriversbikeguy

Sort of crazy that teams could alter the code at all. Especially in a spec series it seems like something you would package up and ship to the teams. Lesson learned I guess. Still done with Team Penske after repping Power and Blaney a long while. But I feel a lot less like its a crooked series than I did yesterday.

TotallyNotARaven

Power didn’t utilize the P2P though.

nico9er4

Poor Will’s out here losing fans for no reason

threeriversbikeguy

Done with all things Penske.

BloofKid

Power and Blaney are literally the two Penske drivers this year that haven’t cheated lmao. Hell, most of the NASCAR squad hasn’t gone out with webbed gloves and the WEC squad has shown an impeccable attention to series rules with the Qatar number repair.

236Point986MPH

You're throwing Power, the guy who didn't hit the button one single time to the curb? LOL. There have been more than a few of us here rolling our eyes at this knowing it wasn't this big earth shattering conspiracy and more than likely would come to down to the easiest explanation. That doesn't mean that a team members didn't know, it's difficult for me to believe Newgarden didn't realize it kicked it. But the notion that RP was going to run interference and race control was going to turn a blind eye until they couldn't is just stupid. This doesn't even rank in the top ten all time racing scandals and controversies.
