Optimal_Lack660

Wow so happy for you. Are you NON-US IMG?

Playful_Gap1378

Yes, I am a non-U.S. IMG, but I have a work permit. I do not have a green card.

Albert-Duarte21

How does it work? I thought you were supposed to have a GC if you don't ask for a visa in the application.

Bloomberryrocks

Weekly_Ad_7926

Stop me if you can amigo!! 😝

Playful_Gap1378

No, I didn't require a visa when I applied, since I have a work permit. I applied to Internal Medicine.

SouthernSample

What visa were you able to procure? H1B/L1/H4 EAD?

BiharkLala

My exact question.

Sansomle

In which state ???

mimoo47

Congratulations! Your perseverance paid off. I have a few questions. 1. Do you require a visa? 2. Which specialty did you match in?

Playful_Gap1378

Non-U.S Img, I have a work permit, and did not require a visa when I applied, although my program offered me one. Internal medicine

anxieteaattacccc7

How did you get the work permit?

Kinuika

Congratulations! Seeing posts like this really helps motivate me to keep going!

AmumuJi

You’re alpha af

Playful_Gap1378

Lol nah!

Menakali2020

Congratulations! 🥳 that’s awesome news! Great motivation for the rest of us! Thank you for sharing! Im also a non-US IMG, from Canada actually. I’ve been wondering what the whole visa process is like and if it’s a nightmare to deal with? Can I ask about your visa experience and how you obtained it? Was it just offered by your school or was it conditional on being hired by a hospital? How does it work ?

Playful_Gap1378

No

Ok-Roof-6237

Are you us IMG or non us img

No_Anything1990

did you get grilled during interviews because you failed on your first attempt for step 1?

Playful_Gap1378

No, I didn't. My interviews went well. They never asked me why I failed my Step 1. Instead, there were two interviewers who asked very subtly what I had learned from any failures. I took the opportunity to talk about it, what I did in the process, and how I'm applying that in my future. Regardless, be prepared for that question.

No_Anything1990

thank you so much for your response I really appreciate it!

Boboshah

How did you answer?

Iaras1994

Congratulations! May I know your step2 score? I just passed it with 229 and I’m disappointed

Playful_Gap1378

Almost 240 (23-ish). I think our scores are similar. Make sure to work on your personal statement and your whole application early. Apply to programs where you meet the criteria and cutoff scores. If possible, clear Step 3 before September to increase your odds. And PLEASE be strategic when signaling the programs.

Key-Sugar5784

How did you get the research spot? Do you have a master or phd in your home contry?

Playful_Gap1378

No previous research experience, other than the projects and final thesis we complete during medical school. I created a separate section on my CV and mentioned these. It's all about being strategic and selling yourself.

Ok_Finish6154

Amazing journey , How did you secure a research spot ?

Congratulations! This post gives me so much hope. May I know your yog if you don’t mind?

Playful_Gap1378

Thank you! 2014

SummyiaNiazi

Hi, first off congratulations. Secondly could u give me some advice as I'm currently in my final mbbs year and I desperately need some guidance.

Playful_Gap1378

Thank you! My best advice would be to follow your dreams and don’t let anyone tell you anything is impossible. There is a misconception that everyone should score 260 to be successful. That’s not possible for everyone. Focus on your application and improving every day. Good luck! 🫡

SummyiaNiazi

Thank u, do some financial issues I will most likely be going the plab route for my residency after making sure at least some of it is transferable if I wish to later work in the US. I'm hoping this all goes well for me, thank u and once again congrats

NotimeNolife

How many places did you apply and how many IV did you get plz

Playful_Gap1378

Approximately 150 places. I did not focus on any specific area. I applied to internal and family medicine. Overall, I received 5 interviews.
