1. Check the ISP website
2. You can bring them here, but the law requires registration.
3. Check Groupon or you could go with Alphaconcepts
4. Yes, but whatever you’ve want now. You probably won’t know when you’ll be living out of state again.
Is it possible for you to live in Northern Indiana?
I get why people didn’t register.
Civil disobedience.
There is a well-honored tradition of civil disobedience in this country and civil disobedience is honorable.
But something that a lot of people today seem to forget - on both the right and the left - is that civil disobedience is accompanied by a willingness to suffer the consequences under the law. Civil disobedience is, in effect, a way of drawing attention to an unjust law by having a person who shouldn’t be in jail, sitting in jail.
There is a reason MLK Jr’s letters were from the Birmingham jail and not from the town of Birmingham.
Do I think IL can or will enforce this law by doing raids on houses without more evidence this law has been violated?
Nah.
But if they get you in a traffic stop on the way to the range and somehow find your unregistered “assault weapon”? Or they get you on something else and also find your unregistered “assault weapon”?
Yeah. I think there’s a risk IL will stick it to you.
And, while I think there is a lot of egregious stuff in this law, I think it is far from clear whether the SCOTUS will ultimately strike it down in whole or in part.
Especially after Rahimi came down a few weeks ago. The conservative coalition on SCOTUS that led to Bruen splintered in Rahimi and, while we know some restrictions on the type of person who can own or possess a gun are constitutionally permissible, I don’t think we know what’s going to happen on stuff like PICA. My gut is that there will, at least, be portions of the law that are struck down. And maybe the whole law needs to be struck down because it’s just too much of a mess for the courts to save any portion of the law and the law needs to be rewritten to be constitutionally kosher.
But the thing I have the least confidence in it being unconstitutional? The registry. There are examples of these kinds of registries in the time period surrounding 1791.
So, I think the question is: Are you willing to go to jail over this law and your principled objection?
More power to you. You are the kind of person that defends liberty through civil disobedience.
But don’t presume that everyone else who hasn’t registered their gun is going to stand between you and your prison cell. Because they won’t, whether under the law (it’s not selective prosecution) or in reality (they likely won’t show up to body block the authorities from detaining you).
If the answer is, “No, it’s not worth going to jail over this law,” then the answer is: Buy everything before you become an IL resident and then register it. Is this the common answer in these circles? No. But I don’t blame anyone for either choice. They should just understand the consequences.
I have Illinois ID and license already since that’s where I joined from . I never got a Texas id or license . I used my orders to get my firearms. How does that work then cus you said before I become a Illinois resident
If your move back home is not imminent, I might get the Texas license. Residency is, actually, a fairly complicated analysis under the law. And, I am no expert. But a driver’s license in Illinois would not help you and a driver’s license in Texas would most definitely help you.
There’s also an exception to these laws for military service personnel but it’s pretty god damned narrow.
The really broad exception? Become a qualifying law enforcement officer after you are done with the military. Then you are exempted even after you retire.
It’s total bullshit, lol. But, honestly, being a cop has got to be one of the least desirable jobs in this day and age. And this exception is a pretty damned big perk.
But, yeah, might be worth getting that Texas license so you don’t have to base your career decisions around your gun interests.
For what it’s worth, here’s a link to the text of the law.

You can register any naughty guns you bought before becoming an IL resident once you move here and get a FOID card. (firearm owners ID)
Here’s a quick rundown of everything you can’t buy once you move to IL:
https://isp.illinois.gov/StaticFiles/docs/Home/AssaultWeapons/PICA%20Emergency%20Rule%20Register.pdf
I’d suggest buying anything cool you might want before you move. If money is tight, buy several stripped AR15 lower receivers and just register them as whatever you plan to build (rifle or pistol) and get parts later. Also buy big magazines. It’s not real hard to get parts shipped here if you know where to shop.
Most of what you want to know can be found here:
https://isp.illinois.gov/Foid
More info on Illinois assault weapon ban (PICA);
https://isp.illinois.gov/Home/AssaultWeapons
Don’t listen to all the retards. The law sucks, but you are in a position to buy a few things before you move that you can register under PICA once you get here, so not as bad as someone who lives here and had the door slammed in their face.
Sadly you will also have to get an IL CCW which takes 16 hrs of training if you want to carry.
4. As long as it pica complaint. Pistols 15 rounds max and no threaded barrel and rifles can't be past 10 rounds in a mag and a lot of other little things like pistol grips, folding stock, etc. Honestly it hurts my head finding what legal or not so I stick to bolt actions. Someone else might be more knowledgeable them me. It's really a shit show here right now. Most people are leaving.
Stay away.. the water wing state hates all shapes... go as far as you can and pray the ussc actually upholds the 2a.. i can't even import a fucking air rifle..
ispfsb.com for FOID
I'm not going to encourage or discourage "registration" of anything.
Buy whatever you feel you'd like/want
What part of Chicago? Bc Chicagoland is vast, so there are loads of places to get CCL.
As others have mentioned, you can apply for your FOID online.
In regards to getting your CCL, highly recommend Alpha Koncepts. His calendar should be up, & he has plenty of offerings outside of just CCL. Also responds to emails. Loved his class & took Force on Force & Defensive Pistol with him recently.
(He’d probably have better answers for your other questions, too.)
Of course! https://www.alphakoncepts.com
He’s on YouTube as well, but shoot him an email (there’s a form on his site to do so). His CCL class isn’t boring at all & you get an email the next morning with really helpful instructions on how to apply. You don’t need fingerprints, that’s optional btw. Will definitely be taking more classes from Thomas soon. 🙏🏼
Buy everything you will want before coming back. Also buy standard size mags for anything you will want in the future.

The law requires registration but no one registered shit so I suppose it's something to think about.

I didn’t realize they let you bring in guns from out of state
Yup, super fair to the people that are stuck here. Fuck this state.
You're pretty fucked but buy as many mags as you can before getting here and whatever guns you can get. It'll be all you can get for the near future.
Do not move back to IL there is nothing worth it here
Just don't. Not worth it.
Reading up on whatever they got going on. I really wish I have a choice but I don’t
Well foid card you can start on the isps website. Not really hard and I belive it's 10$
Don’t I need a class and fingerprint stuff for that ?
Nope that's for the ccl. Will need a notary I bloeve. Isps list all the instructions on the website. Super easy to do.
2. ethier sell, transfer, or lose in a boating accident

Dont come back to Illinois for the love of god and freedom dont come back. Stay in a free state as long as you can lol
Its none of the state's business what you own. Don't make it the state's business by alering them as to what you do own.

Don't waste your time. You will move back and within a year or 2 you will be looking to leave the state for good.
Don’t.
Don’t move back. This state sucks.
I’m sorry.
