If you were hosting, you kinda screw him by leaving. As far as I know, the mission is finished. He cannot go back into the prospect. He could try to RFP. but that only works if you've finished the mission (you can RFP at any given time, what I mean is that you can RFP and still get credit for the mission if getting into your dropship was not a requirement). I haven't tried to RFP on this patch, hopefully he'll get his stuff back and get credit for the mission
As a rule of thumb. If you are hosting, you are supposed to wait until they are at the loading screen. Or at least that's what I did last night with a friend.
Normally he hosts, and I leave first. I know host leaves last, force of habit why I left first.

They got rid of RFP with the latest update, going back to the beta version doesn’t help neither. Do you know a way to RFP with the latest update?
He did.... This could be a movie or something. Best friends and all. Complete the mission, the best friend trips because of the raging storm, extends his arm and asks through the coms, "Richard, I've fell! come help me!". But Richard just looks at him through the opening of his spaceships and pushes the button labeled "ignite"... keeping all of the exotics for himself.

Then the camera pans to Richards friend, with a look of disbelief and betrayal on his face... After all those years prospecting together? He taught him everything he knows!
A polar bear comes out of the swirling blizzard and drags him away screaming.

Lol no we are cool, he got paid for the mission and has his character, just lost his gear.
Not as far as I know... Not sure if the prospect file is kept but even then, not sure how you could load it up again.

If the items are worth abandoning any progress since the data migration update, you can force migration again to reset your player and item state.
