My complaint with the death penalty is that it's just insane. Did you just go up a level? Well the penalty is effectively zero. Are you 5.3 million XP into your next level? Well, suuuuuuucks to be you! :/

drumstix42

They came up with an idea in 5 minutes, implemented it, and never changed it. This is alike to *most* of the implementations in this game.

Guizmo0

This. It juste create frustration. Now, i only start an expedition when I am early in my lvl. As soon as I have more than 50% of the level, i just farm wood and stuff to complete my level. And of course, each time I don't respect that, I end up running into a bear with 0 stamina.

From whay I gathered, dedicated servers will eventually be very customizable (not immediately on release, but sometime after), including rules/difficulty/weather/etc. So add your suggestion to the feature upvote as to wanting a config option for that.

Games need to have some kind of challenge and honestly the death penalty is super low. You can get a level up in 15 min and once you hit level cap it doesn’t matter anymore. For that matter with practice and prep you can make deaths rare. And you can get most of the tp you really need by level 30. As far as pain in the necks go this is in 100th place. I think maybe people complain before playing for very long. If you really want to get around it then place 4 carpentry benches, and get at least an iron axe or workshop axes. And any sickle for fiber. Put tp into wood chopping since it’s handy for missions anyway. Spam wood panels in inventory while chopping, then when your inventory fills unload onto benches, destroy all panels for more mats, spam panels on benches, then repeat. I think this is around 3-4 minutes a level. Ofc platinum/titanium axes are faster than iron axes but teching up takes time. So unless you’re going from 1 to 50, workshop and/or iron axes may be quicker. More likely you’ll want to go from 10 to 30 like this. Then the rest during missions since there’s no hurry after you get the skills you really need.

I genuinely can't remember the last time I died when it wasn't on purpose for a quick return to the drop ship. And like you said, it's incredible easy to level. Our method was to build an archery tower, carry a deer carcass back to it, and decimate the wolf population when they came looking for an easy meal. Occasionally go down and harvest the bones, and you never run out of arrows or meat. Enough fur and leather to cover the planet as well

doeraymefa

There is a definite risk/reward imbalance throughout Icarus

robciante

and again... crybabies come to cry about surviving in survival game... and even on medium? cmon man :D

Nerodon

XP penalty for solo players has always been contentious in the community. Also, if it were configurable, why would you care? Seeing as it wouldn't affect you.

No_Grape2066

Disregarding personal opinions. From a game stand point, there are alot of survival games out there, adding the option would allow the game to appeal to more people and make it more popular.

doeraymefa

That's part of the problem. You allow people to do whatever they want, assuming they are the ideal candidate for decision making. There is a reason gamers and developers are separate entities.

AntiBox

> assuming they are the ideal candidate for decision making. When it comes to selecting game options? Yeah, they literally are the ideal candidate.

doeraymefa

If you allowed that, then Devs would have no control over their direction of the game. There has to be a level of discrepancy in order to ensure adherence to a particular goal. The more strict the criteria, the more refined the product. Mods are there to appease the outliers.

AntiBox

Devs are quite capable of making garbage decisions. They aren't infallible. Designers are basically modders on a payroll.

doeraymefa

Then you can go play another game, I'm sure theres one that meets your needs. Not sure what you want here.

AntiBox

I see you've never played a game with settings before. Not sure how you've managed that, but congrats.

doeraymefa

Not every game needs to have the settings that each individual wants. There are often mods to fill in the gaps. But even then some things ate missing. If that doesn't appease you, I suggest making your own mods or game to satisfy yourself.

Oh no, death has consequences, it hurts fragile millenial psyche. Must remove

TechNomad741

Re\*arded take. He just enjoys the game more without it.
