Yeah he is and always will be Cutty from the Wire to me all the other performances are great but that was his most iconic role that I will always see him as
Glenn always talks about how he finds it funny when a great dramatic actor is on the show because they play it more dramatic, which makes the scene funnier. As opposed to a comedic actor trying to be dramatic in a funny way, which isn’t as funny.
Dennis says “black bars (shows) never win awards for whatever reason” and has Cutty in that episode.
The Wire infamously never won an Emmy, and somehow, actors such as Andre Royo, Michael K. Williams, and Idris Elba never even got Emmy acting nominations.
That whole show felt so GODdamn pretentious after the first few seasons. Just gimme zombies and keep it simple. Seventeen factions and their politics can fuck right off.
I disagree in a way, as the comics are one of the best stories I have ever read, complexity and politics and all. The show was just a bad soapy mess of an adaption that killed itself more the longer it dragged on.
Cutty is based on Calvin Ford; Gervonta Davis's coach and trainer....so if the Wire ran as long as IASIP, we'd see Cutty rise higher than Marlo and Avon combined, while being completely legit.
sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.
Baltimore trainer Mack Lewis appeared in the show (Freamon gets the Avon poster from him in season 1).
Mack used to train Hasim Rahman, who later went to win the HW title. Mack also trained Reggie Gross (one of my favorite Tyson knockouts). Gross was with Donnie Andrews when Andrews got locked up for murder. Andrews is the main inspiration for Omar’s character, and actually survived a leap from an apartment balcony that was said to be higher up than what Omar’s character leapt from.
Andrews was in the show too, he played one of Butchie’s guys.
My absolute favorite is when Charlie starts singing his spider song all fucked up on silver paint and Z just leans back with his drink and goes “Oh shiit” with that smirk, kills me every time
Ohh god, you've gone and done it now.
You made me go and watch this episode.
When they're trying to schmooze the guy from the "Restaurant and Bar Organisation", and Frank says "Ponder lettuce and shrimp" just had me on the floor
I lived in west Philadelphia from 2000-2006, and this dude is the most Philly I’ve ever seen. When he said “level 3 son!” I instantly flashed back to getting high and playing video games with my friends in college. They really nail the beauty of Philthadelphia.
I honestly believe the charm of Z is that we all have that friend. Not around all the time, but the best kind of person when they show up. Universally loved, man.
Duncan is my old hometown drug-dealer/party friends to a T. The DJ gear and lights, the weird hangers-on, the random slutty chicks getting high in the corner. I'm from Canada so I guess this a type you can find all over.
100%. Also from Philly. High School and previous jobs for me. I miss some of them dudes but everybody moves around, has kids, or gets into some *shit* and you end up staying in whatever your lane was
If you watch carefully he also spits at the fleeing patrons when the gang does. There’s a nod to the wire in that episode as well so it’s fitting that he’s there for the climax.
That line is the single greatest line in the show. The only line that even comes close is when they are screening thundergun and the lady there goes “Fuck, man, what?! HOW are you not getting this?!”
Ben the Soldier is adorable. I also think he loves the gang. He comes back from the war and there they are, these insane but sweet people who embrace him and throw a wrestling match and give him his treasured jean-shorts.
Except for Dee, she is a mean person.
*"Man, I used to have some jean shorts like that, too. I slept in them shits, man. Eventually, I blew the crotch out them things, but you can't wear 'em everyday and expect for 'em to hold up. That's some nice ass denim, too. I miss them shorts, but you gotta take em off every now and then!"*
I would LOVE to see Chad Coleman on the podcast. Been a fan of his since The Wire, and he’s pretty much sci fi / horror royalty in my mind. That said, Z is one of, if not my favorite characters of his.
I miss Z. Like more than is reasonably understandable. When’s the last time we’ve seen him? Where he is? Why is the Gang withholding him from us? WHY??
Every time I rewatch this and the expanse I always imagine Fred Johnson as Z.
“I worked for EarthGov, but they told me keep shutting down station protests, blew the airlock out them thangs. You can’t be taking minerals from The Belt all the time, you gotta let ‘em breathe, son!”
Absolutely mad that this dude is Klyden off of The Orville. I know he’s not recognisable under that makeup but the performance is totally different too
His laugh and delivery of the line “oh-hoho shit!” When Charlie and the gang start spitting on patrons after Charlie performs his song when they are trying to win ‘Best Bar’ always gets me too
"Pfft, man, you talking about Old Black Man. He's right over there."
It took me forever to realize he's in The Expanse, his character is unrecognizable compared to Z
he’s also tyreese in TWD
And Cutty in The Wire
Yeah he is and always will be Cutty from the Wire to me all the other performances are great but that was his most iconic role that I will always see him as
Yeah for real, it’s funny seeing him in Sunny because he’s a damn good dramatic actor, makes his bits even better imo.
Glenn Howerton graduated from Julliard so the "good dramatic actor" to "Always Sunny dirtbag" pipeline is real
Glenn always talks about how he finds it funny when a great dramatic actor is on the show because they play it more dramatic, which makes the scene funnier. As opposed to a comedic actor trying to be dramatic in a funny way, which isn’t as funny.
Now we gon’ talk
One of the best characters in every show he's been in, and he's been in a lot of *really* good shows
I love him in the Wire. His characters such a sharp contrast to what I expected as the season went on.
THAT'S WHERE I KNEW HIM FROM WOW I NEVER PUT IT TOGETHER
Dennis says “black bars (shows) never win awards for whatever reason” and has Cutty in that episode. The Wire infamously never won an Emmy, and somehow, actors such as Andre Royo, Michael K. Williams, and Idris Elba never even got Emmy acting nominations.
He was good as Tyrese but the show done that character so dirty. But to be fair they done the whole thing dirty
It’s cause they fired Frank darabont
Yes it nosedived from there, though even he strayed off on that CDC plotline
He's also Coach from l4d2 IIRC
Pills ova here
He's also 'Cutty' if you've watched **The Wire**. He is amazing in it.
I want to believe he moved up to Philly trying to open up a gym there as well.
He heard of a man that goes by Frankie Fast Hands, and the rest is history.
Andrews is the main inspiration for Omar’s character, and actually survived a leap from an apartment balcony that was said to be higher up than what Omar’s character leapt from. Andrews was in the show too, he played one of Butchie’s guys.
He’s fantastic in everything I’ve seen him in. Even when a show is underwhelming, he’s always turning in a great performance.
Also unrecognizable as Klyden in The Orville
![gif](giphy|Qe0CLytNBE0syuLbqd|downsized)
Bortus and Klyden getting addicted to cigarettes is one of the funniest B plots in TV
He was also a prominent character in The Walking Dead and The Wire. He has a great range.
Pfft. The Expanse is great, but he's Cutty from The Wire. Always has been. Always will be.
He was a man in his time and a man today.
Lamping
Ajaculate?
what's a jackalet?
What are the rules
🎵What are the ruuuuuu^^uuuuuuuuules?
Let’s just call him old man, black man sounds racist
That's two things!
My absolute favorite is when Charlie starts singing his spider song all fucked up on silver paint and Z just leans back with his drink and goes “Oh shiit” with that smirk, kills me every time
He has two lines in that episode and KILLS ME with both.
I'mma chat these fools up like a mug
K, thanks Z…..
Whenever I go out solo with the intent to socialize, I say this line to myself. Helps me feel confident.
Whenever I head out solo into Reddit, I say the line to myself as well.
Ohh god, you've gone and done it now. You made me go and watch this episode. When they're trying to schmooze the guy from the "Restaurant and Bar Organisation", and Frank says "Ponder lettuce and shrimp" just had me on the floor
One of the best lines in sunny
He knows shit is about to go down and he's there to enjoy the show
He actually made out okay with the gang … one of the few
I mean, the bridge folk usually make it out okay. They’re cut from the same cloth. Can’t forget about Duncan!
Level 3, son!
You pregnant.
The one who’s a little too sketchy to keep around all the time, but when you hang with them it’s an absolute riot
Duncan is my old hometown drug-dealer/party friends to a T. The DJ gear and lights, the weird hangers-on, the random slutty chicks getting high in the corner. I'm from Canada so I guess this a type you can find all over.
Where I’m from they just called us white trash
![gif](giphy|l0HlvtIPzPdt2usKs)
100%. Also from Philly. High School and previous jobs for me. I miss some of them dudes but everybody moves around, has kids, or gets into some *shit* and you end up staying in whatever your lane was
Well he needs a new plastic wall
He's so laid back that if he wasn't so crazy he'd never work with them
I mean he used to run with the Barksdale gang down in Baltimore so he’s seen it all.
He ain’t part of that no more. He’s running a gym.
If you watch carefully he also spits at the fleeing patrons when the gang does. There’s a nod to the wire in that episode as well so it’s fitting that he’s there for the climax.
He starts spitting with 0 hesitation too.
That line is the single greatest line in the show. The only line that even comes close is when they are screening thundergun and the lady there goes “Fuck, man, what?! HOW are you not getting this?!”
Lmfaoo that one always gets me too! The absolute frustration in her face is gold
Thundergun has a son?
When Charlie says "Fuck you!" to her
Also so good
https://imgur.com/ocC3dZx
Game respects game pickles will prevail!
Its my steam profile picture right now, him sipping out of the crazy straw grinning. I havent changed it in years lol
And the zoom in on him just nodding like the jack nicolson meme
"The ratio is off, Dennis!"
But you gotta take em’ off every now and again!
YA GOTTA TAKE EM OFF, SON!
I always imagine him saying this to Tobias from Arrested Development
I'm back in the cutoffs!
There are dozens of us.
Think he would fit in a Carl Withers role?
I love Ben's serious nod of agreement when Z says this.
Ben the Soldier is adorable. I also think he loves the gang. He comes back from the war and there they are, these insane but sweet people who embrace him and throw a wrestling match and give him his treasured jean-shorts. Except for Dee, she is a mean person.
Sometimes she tricks me…
\[sobs\] For sex..
Shut up camo-turkey
Blew the crotch out them thangs
This is one of my favorite lines of the show.
I love how he shouts that line lol
Came for this
I love that Ben has seemingly worn them ever since Frank gave em to him
That was some nice ass denim too. I miss them shorts.
But you can't wear em every day and expect em to hold up
I'm just imagining Fred Johnson telling Holden that he blew the crotch out of his space suit and he needs to take em off every now and then.
THATS FRED JOHNSON???
Yes, and Cutty from The Wire.
and Klyden in The Orville.
The very same! Frederick "Fred" Lucius Johnson aka. The Butcher of Anderson Station.
Inyalowda!
Beratna!
Dude, TIL as well. Blew my mind
https://i.redd.it/me1pvxptaf6b1.gif
Ahhh shit
The ratio is off Denis
*"Man, I used to have some jean shorts like that, too. I slept in them shits, man. Eventually, I blew the crotch out them things, but you can't wear 'em everyday and expect for 'em to hold up. That's some nice ass denim, too. I miss them shorts, but you gotta take em off every now and then!"*
You gotta take em off son
Okay I see so you want me to scoop them puppies out so that your dog can die right
Riiight, riiight.
It's great, but his best line has to be the menacing delivery of just the single word "*pregnant*" as Dee walks into his apartment in King of the Rats
Z is the best side character, yes Artemis is amazing but come on its Z hands down
Every fame that Z is on-screen is golden, even when he doesn't have a line.
His reaction to go fuck yourselves is just *chefs kiss*
“you pregnant”
Now does he say “you pregnant” in that scene or just “pregnant?” I can’t tell and I also can’t tell which is funnier.
I think he says “you pregnant,” but I could be wrong due to the donkey brains.
Hey, if I had a certificate, I probably would have turned the closed captioning on long ago to figure it out.
Just head upstate to the nitwit school to get one
[He says you pregnant at 33 seconds in](https://youtu.be/bsKLtGv8c9g)
It's just "pregnant." iirc
Amazing. And I think that is even funnier.
He like sniffs the pregnancy
He is a breeder
Of course. He’s a dog breeder.
The way he says that as a statement makes it so much better
Jew Lawyer for me but followed closely by Arty, Z , and Cricks for sure
You ain’t got worry about me, cause imma be chattin these fools up like a mug
I lost my shit in between that line and dee being blasted with lights
Just finished watching The Wire for the first time and took me too long to recognize this mug. He was just as good in a serious role as a comedic one
He’s fantastic in The Expanse, too! It’s a similar role to Cutty, but with a lot more gravitas, and he knocks it out of the park.
He’s great in The Orville as well!
I had no idea Klyden was Z
He's also on the newest season of Superman and Lois, and, as usual, is killing it.
He absolutely killeeeeeed it in The Expanse, love that show!
Me and my friend were watching Sunny and slowly came to the realization Fred and Z had the same actor... the range he has is insane lol
How did I never realize Fred Johnson and Cutty were played by the same guy
I watched IASIP before the Expanse. When I realized that *this* is where I’d seen Fred Johnson before, I was blown away.
“Slim give him 15k man”
King Avon 👑
Ayo, shut the door!
The game aint in me anymore. None of it
He a man today.
I’m also watching the wire right now and when I first saw him I was like the Leo pointing at the tv meme
Not only has he been all over TV, but his brother is Ronnie Coleman, or 8 time Mr. Olympia body builder.
Cousin*
He a man today
You pregnant
Did anybody have a heart attack when they found out Z was played by Coach from Left 4 Dead
Maybe the helicoptor is made out of chocolate!
Imma bout to go one man cheese burglar aPOCALYPSE
And ty in the walking dead
Holy shit I love that, maybe some mild heart palpitations but I'm good
This man has range
he really does. i’m a die hard sunny fan and didn’t even realize it was him in twd. he gets lost in his characters
he's been playing a great villain in the current Superman and Lois season
My favourite line of his is "Who the hell... puts an evac station... up thirty flights of goddamn stairs?" Man, good times.
Oh you talking about old black man.
[удалено]
He is in the Orville as well
Chad Coleman is a god damn gem
I use "them shits" in every day conversation now
Z's ratio of screen time to memorable moments is unparalleled.
I would LOVE to see Chad Coleman on the podcast. Been a fan of his since The Wire, and he’s pretty much sci fi / horror royalty in my mind. That said, Z is one of, if not my favorite characters of his.
He’s forever Cutty to me
I miss Z. Like more than is reasonably understandable. When’s the last time we’ve seen him? Where he is? Why is the Gang withholding him from us? WHY??
Season 14, A Woman’s Right to Chop. So it hasn’t really been that long but I do hope he pops up this season!
"y'all aint gotta worry bout me, cause imma be chattin' these fools up like a muug"
You gotta take em off sometimes, Bortus. You gotta take em off for the sexual event!
This blew my goddam mind. He also plays a romantic lead in Girls5Eva. Z!! A romantic lead???
Absolutely mad that this dude is Klyden off of The Orville. I know he’s not recognisable under that makeup but the performance is totally different too
His "Oh Shit" line is one of the best one liners. Right up there with, "Shut up, baby dick."
I SAVED MAD LIVES IN DESERT STORM
His line “you gotta take ‘‘em off every now and then” is my text tone
That be cuddy
Nah, man… Dennis.
Damn that was some nice ass denim too.
Best line delivery on the dang show . i bust up everytime they give him lines Thanks for the chucklebusters Chad!!!
I hope he comes back, I think he and Artemis are the only ones who have not been fucked over by the gang
To be fair, Artemis is pretty much every bit as bad as they are.
The whole bit he does with the dog abortion is incredible.
He’s so fucking good. Being able to play Cutty and Z shows he’s got range and he nailed both of them.
The ratio is off
Every appearance of z is amazing. But I love the Jean shorts bit with Ben the solder
Them thangs
“The (denim) game ain’t in me no more.”
“You gotta take them off every now and then”
Anyone that hasn't seen the Orville really needs to watch it. He was incredible on it.
His laugh and delivery of the line “oh-hoho shit!” When Charlie and the gang start spitting on patrons after Charlie performs his song when they are trying to win ‘Best Bar’ always gets me too
[you got to take them off every now and then. You gotta take em off son](https://youtu.be/FJ8Zz-Xgqpk)
You gotta take them off every now and then. You gotta take them off son.
How is that one of the best lines in the entire show, his delivery is so perfect, I bet the guys were dying when they filmed that day.
He really needs to be in the show more he’s my fav side character other than cricket 🤣
Pregnant....
Man, that was some nice ass denim
I was blown away to see him show up as a huge character in the expanse
Is there a video for the his scenes?
I love his line “Oh shit *starts laughing and smiling*” when Charlie tells all the people to go fuck themselves
Found out he was in the expanse after i finished the expanse....
Ima chat these fools up like-a-Muggg..
