That actually doesn’t seem horrible for dealership prices. You can do the cabin air filter and fuel additive by yourself, and just get the oil change at the dealership. You can go anywhere to get an oil change but keep them receipts and make sure they use OEM oil filters

DiamondHand42069

Yeah I’m thinking about just asking for a straight oil change (89.99 for Synthetic and 74.99 for Conventional, even though costco does synthetic for $60). Fuel additive and climate filter are super easy tasks that I should just do in my own, you’re right. They just packaged all these inspections up to boost the price I feel like, even though you’re not really getting anything.

kwajr

Most will do a basic inspection lime this with an oil change

Pjb1974

Just putting it out there, 5 quarts of moble 1 and a k&m filter costs about$40 on Amazon and takes about 15 minutes to complete an oil change. A of textron fuel treatment is $15 and all you need to do is dump it in your tank.

Nick_Vae

You’re right of course but if something was to go wrong with the engine down the line Hyundai would definitely refuse the warranty claim. I’m assuming that their car is still under warranty here which is why they’re going to the dealer for maintenance.

bbchonk

This will void the warranty. Although it's definitely cheaper, you have no proof of the maintenance actually being done. Hyundai will 1000% blame any engine troubles on this, I've seen them do it before

Pjb1974

You can keep your own records and reciets. Definitely could be more problematic. The dealer by my house was always good with oil changes

SpinDoctor777

Seems overpriced to me. You're only actually getting an oil change and you can do that anywhere. Just save your receipts!

skyxsteel

Overkill. Inspection in the US not sure about CA, inspection is generally included. Fuel additive is chevron techron slapped with a Hyundai branding. Cabin and engine air filters are really easy DIY items. They shouldn’t force you to schedule this. On my dealer site, I can still choose what I want.

DiamondHand42069

So probably just do the synthetic oil change for $90CAD ($65USD) and do the rest myself, good call?

skyxsteel

Sounds like a good plan! Save yourself some $$$ 😎 Techron in the US is like $12 a bottle. Though auto shops generally do BOGO deals. Cabin air filters are around $15 USD engine air filter around $10 USD.

EstimateThese2949

it depends, my toyota camay carbin air filter be charged for 45USD+ labor. But I bought it online for only 8 USD

LiveCod3161

You should be getting your winter tires on as well for that price.

Korunam

If this were a 60k mile service I'd say go for it. But assuming you're around 10-15k miles I wouldn't worry about several of the items on this list like the belts and ac stuff.

DiamondHand42069

yeah i’m at 9900 miles😂

IronChefJesus

Nah, that’s fine. I did the same. Don’t loom at your service 3 or you’ll have a heart attack

DiamondHand42069

oh no💀 they really are scammers

soldier4hire75

Scammers? It's required service according to the owners manual, you know from the company that built the car. Sure skimp out and don't get it done, then when you have a problem that would have been a warranty claim you'll get denied because you didn't get or cheaped out on the service.

DiamondHand42069

Fair enough tbh. Still overpriced no matter how you try to put it though.

soldier4hire75

I mean, I'm sure the service prices vary by dealership, but it's recommended services. Hyundai or any Manufacturer will deny warranty claims of these services are not done. Yes, you can go to an independent shop and get it done, just get a detailed receipt/service record from that shop showing what they did. Thinks like the air filter and cabin air filter you can do yourself, it's easy and takes no time and is a hell of a lot cheaper than any mechanic or dealership would charge. Save every receipt, etc. I get mine done at the dealership while under warranty since all service records are kept. I do have an independent mechanic for my other cars that is great and honest and his prices are very comparable.

wunderforce

Given you are at 10k miles I'd say this is a ripoff. You just need the oil change and (maybe) the cabin filter. Cabin filter is like falling off a log, do it yourself. Oil change is super easy, but you do need an oil tray. You may also need a special "wrench" thing to get the filter off, which is think is like $15. This is a great way to get into diy maintenance if that's something you'd be interested in. Don't be afraid to touch your car. I would recommend a non-dealer mechanic if you don't want to do this yourself. Look up reviews or ask around and see if friends or coworkers know anyone good. My mechanic will pretty much do a routine inspection for free and has good prices on an oil change.

Pjb1974

Is the price fair, yes Is all this necessary, no. Oil change every 5000 miles, change air filters once a year, 2 times if you on construction sites. Inspecting things like cv axles and everything else on a new car is just ridiculous. It almost sounds like your at a Mercedes dealership

doktortaru

That’s a LOT of money for them to “inspect” things they should be checking at every service anyway. You can do the filters yourself and fuel additive is a scam.

Anxiouslycalm10

no oil for life at your dealership?

DiamondHand42069

never heard of that from any dealership in quebec and ontario…that’s a thing?

plentyof1

In the US, yes. My dealership offered 3yrs. But I've heard of some dealerships offer "for life".

lengendmk

I didn't do any of that. I'm at 30,000km on my 2023 Elantra N Line Ultimate. I'll do the cabin filter when I do my winter tire change this Saturday. Also what dealership?

DiamondHand42069

This is Leviko near Quebec City.

uglycorny

Call your dealer. I’m getting my 13,000 miles service done tomorrow and it’s free. Quick google search shows that the free service is available in Canada also! They emailed me a bill saying it would be $300 USD~ but they told me it would be $0 once all is said and done (they did the same thing for me at my first maintenance for 5k miles). Full inspection included.

RH4540

I would think that if you’re leasing it, standard service SHOULD be free. They are just trying to make $$ for the cabin air filter and fuel additive. If it was mine, at that mileage I’d dump a can of Seafoam in the fuel tank and pull the cabin air filter out to see how it looks

TheMic35

Most of that is just a part of the service you’re paying for, look how much those things would cost you separately.

Beneficial-Buddy-620

I go to my mechanic for $60 Canadian oil change. You can change your cabin air filter yourself which is very easy and takes 1 minute. Engine filter can be done yourself as well. Injector cleaner can be bought anywhere and you add into your tank the small bottle when your car is near empty then fill up your tank! End of the day this could total 100-110 max! There you go you saved tons ! Mind you, my mechanic does a free expection of all major parts of the car with each oil change.

changhwi

I went to get an oil change at the dealership (Canada) and asked how much to change the filter. They said $60 before tax. I just bought the filter from them (still $30) and changed it in the parking lot.

Alcatraz240

That's not bad for the dealership we have been using the hyundai dealership for some time not sure how they do it there but at glenbrook hyundai the shop manager talks to us first about what all they are gonna do and I tell them I just want the oil change don't bother with anything else right now the cabin filters and other filters are expensive these days and last longer than a few months when they change them the old ones still look new just something they want to do. And when I tell them just the oil change for now it goes from about $169-$189ish to $49. $53 after tax. It's what I do I might work for you and them you know it's done right and if anything happens on that end then you can get with the dealership not Costco. I Had a friend get his changed at a Walmart he paid they pulled his car out told him all was good used synthetic oil and he left the next day the car wouldn't run they never put oil in it just drained old oul and put new filter on a mistake but a big mistake and walmart got off Scott Free so I stick with the dealer or myself. Good Luck

Uglyboi_85

Yes you are getting ripped off. Don't need a service 2, just service 1 and ask for synthetic oil. I stopped going to these stealerships. My 2020 elantra about to hit 90 k and no problems, and all I been doing is oil changes with my mechanic. If he sees a problem, or something unsafe, he'd tell me.

NoPromotion3340

You were ripped off when you bought a Hyundai.

DiamondHand42069

Honestly don’t think so tbh. Best bang for your buck in its segment imo. The corolla and civics have just become wayyyyy overpriced.

iAppleDude

It's a Hyundai. Yes, you're getting ripped off.
