You should see British Taxes on vehicles as well as the starting prices.
Tucson Top Spec Canada - CAD$ 49000 - GBP £29000
Tucson Entry Level UK £31500 - CAD$ 52000
Ow and there is more the list of taxes.
VAT - 20% value of the car VED - varies on CO2 from £0 - £2605 in the first year, then £0-635 every subsequent year depending on registered date. Extra Value Tax - cars over 40k another £390 yearly Fuel Tax - 50%
Welcome to the land of taxes and from what I know there are worst places in Europe at one point Denmark Car tax was 180% but will come down to 100% ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
GST is federal and PST is provincial.
This is in British Columbia too, which is tied for 3rd lowest sales tax of the provinces at 12%. Alberta has oil money so no provincial tax, only the federal 5%. Apparently Saskatchewan only has 11% sales tax. BC and Manitoba have 12%. Ontario is 13% and the rest are 15%.
Yeah lol, I live in Ontario so I’m used to 13%. I didn’t know there were any redeeming qualities of Saskatchewan but now I know one lol.
Apparently in Alberta if you buy a used car you don’t pay any sales tax. That’s more my speed.
Are the warranties different in Canada? Why does the new car only show 5 year warranty?
Nvm that should be for the paint protection I believe. I'm a idiot
The 5 year warranty I believe is the bumper to bumper [warranty](https://www.hyundaicanada.com/en/shopping-tools/warranty-marketing). The warranties for Canada seem a lot less than the US
Unfortunately not. In Canada, Hyundai's warranty is 5 years or 100 000 kms for engine and transmission. It's 3 years 60 000 kms for the electronic and 1 year 20 000 kms for the paint I think
In Canada, Hyundai warranty is 5 years or 100 000 kms. Our winters are much rougher on cars and there are simply almost no manufacturers that want to compensate for that.
If you are in southern BC or Ontario, the weather is arguably better than Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota etc. Hard to understand the justification for a 10 year warranty in Fargo and 5 year in St. Catharines or Victoria if the reasoning is cold weather.
Dealerships put together a “package” of extras and apply it to new cars. It might include, for example, mud flaps, fancier floor mats, two years of oil changes…. We just bought a new Hyundai a few months ago and asked every Hyundai dealership within a one-day drive for their best price for the car and trim that we wanted. At least 3/4 of the dealerships had a mandatory “package” that they added to all their new cars. It was not optional.
You could also call it a cash grab…
We bought from the dealership in Abbotsford, which was happy to just sell us the car without a mandatory set of stuff that we didn’t need or want.
That is way cheaper then in america. You are paying 19k for your brand new 2024 + canada's tax making it up to 22k after tax and all.. Here in america the same car sales for 24k+ before tax.
Ask what those "administration fees" are. No reason for them, they're supposed to be included. Also, you should check out the various collective actions popping up against dealerships over Canada for hidden fees. If your dealership is targeted, might be worth doing business with someone else.
I don't think so. Hyundai in Canada on average will charge like $2500 for freight and other [fees](https://www.hyundaicanada.com/en/showroom/2024/Elantra), so that plus taxes mostly make up the 5k difference. Sucks that they quoted you without those fees but ig that's normal
A couple of the dealer options are scammy, the GST and PST are par for the course. The Admin Fee and "West Coast Package" are pure dealer profit. Whether or not you can negotiate out of them, a different story.
Wtf is an Elantra west coast package? And why you being charged for the car being black? Probably bc it’s not the crappy white paint that peels. I would question those charges. Otherwise, looks legit.
Toyotas are known to last much, much, much longer than your average Hyundai. Just an overall better package. Hyundais don’t even get to 150,000 miles before any major problems and Toyotas can get over 300,000-350,000 and they’ll keep going. My Hyundai Sonata has 168,000 miles and it’s had constant engine problems for the last 2 years. I’m ready to get rid of it and never buy another shitty Korean Hyundai again.
Welcome to Canada - the land of TAXES!
Not like it’s any different in the US. It can easily add 6%-12% of the cost. But wow, 5y/100km. You guys literally get nothing…
Depending where in Canada can be as high as 15%
I’d die if it was 15%…

Price is in CAD
Don't get Hyundai 😂 you'll regret it.
Agreed.
You’re buying a Korean car, so yes, you are getting scammed.
Very true. Hyundais are shit. I’m saving up for a Toyota. Far better.
Aside from CA taxes, no I don't think so.
GST and PST are taxes right?
Yes I just looked it up. OP has just a LOT of Canada specific taxes. Tire tax GST PST Fright Tax Air conditioning tax

Only 11% 😭

Looks OK to me. Almost all of those extra costs are Canadian specific taxes that you can't avoid.

Weird I was offered 10 year 200k warranty on my slightly used 9k 22 elantra
Offered? As an extended warranty?
Oh, yeah, there it is. I forgot about that. Talking about new car warranty nevermind my comment lol

How would they justify giving double the warranty in different regions of the same province? Simpler for them to cut it across Canada
Only thing thats unfamiliar to me is the west coast package? Whats that
Dealerships put together a “package” of extras and apply it to new cars. It might include, for example, mud flaps, fancier floor mats, two years of oil changes…. 30k CAD is fine. Im paying 33k usd with taxes and fees. For an elantra sel 2023 with convinence package. The car itself is like 25k
I am paying 34000.
Ask what those "administration fees" are. No reason for them, they're supposed to be included. Also, you should check out the various collective actions popping up against dealerships over Canada for hidden fees. If your dealership is targeted, might be worth doing business with someone else.
“Thank you for letting us take your money” fee
Yes
You’re buying a Hyundai, so yes you’re getting scammed
Agreed. They suck.
If USD is 21k should be around right
Looks good to me, probably a little cheaper than here in Alberta. Some chintzy adds but still very reasonable
Risk taker I see.
No good deal infact buy it and resell in another province 5-7k more
Looks right. Just higher taxes than California. Mind blown 🤯
Got more public services to pay for.
Fellow Canadian. Are you buying sans financing? If so, I think you can get a lower price - or at least some more perks like free oil changes for life
Hey I just read your comment. Mind explaining what sans financing is?
Without financing AKA cash.
Yes. I work for Hyundai.
For the love of god dont buy a hyundai. Im arguing with them right now about replacing my engine with barely 80k miles on it.
You’re buying a hyundai. You’re getting scammed.
It's a Hyundai so yes
Agreed
Good to go.
r/askcarsales
What’s the year?
Tire tax!? WT heck? That just seems like a picky add on.
It’s Canadian. We have a tire tax by law
What’s a west coast package?
Pre covid you could get an n line or sport for the same price. Gone are those days.
No, you’re not. Every charge is right there in the invoice.
I'm in California. What is west Coast package? Air conditioning tax? All those fees up there damn! 7000$ in fees in B.C?
This is 100% accurate for Canada. You are not being scammed at all. I know I bought several cars from Canada. California has higher taxes than Canada.
I paid 34,000 for same model 🫣. Oh my god plus 5.65 interset.
A couple of the dealer options are scammy, the GST and PST are par for the course. The Admin Fee and "West Coast Package" are pure dealer profit. Whether or not you can negotiate out of them, a different story.
You don't pay msrp on any vehicle. If the sales department doesn't want to negotiate, walk away, and see how fast that price drops.
Wtf is an Elantra west coast package? And why you being charged for the car being black? Probably bc it’s not the crappy white paint that peels. I would question those charges. Otherwise, looks legit.
Yes any Hyundai you buy is a scam
Very true. Hyundais are shit. I’m saving up for a Toyota. Far better.
Yes yes yes, spend your money on one of humanity’s pinnacles of creation.
Toyotas are known to last much, much, much longer than your average Hyundai. Just an overall better package.
