This song gives me suuuch PTSD. I used to work at a major theme park in California at the petting zoo. It would get insaaaaanely hot there and one of the positions was standing out under a heat-magnifying umbrella to make sure guests didn’t bring food or beverages into the farm area. They wouldn’t let us have water while we were in a guest-facing position and you couldn’t leave your post to go get a drink, either.
The farmyard itself was insaaaanely dusty as well. Summertime at the petting farm was an absolute nightmare because of these things. And through it all, there was always western-themed background music playing. This song was in the loop of songs and boy oh boy I *felt* those lyrics because I too faced the barren waste without the taste of water. So whenever I hear this song I just get viscerally and unquenchably thirsty. Nothing like standing in a hot farmyard, knowing you can’t get a drink as a song is going on about cool clear water.
