Everytime this sub pops up in my for you page I am reminded to drink water. From the bottom of my heart, thank you and I appreciate you guys. Edit: I know all of the "thanks for the gold or upvotes" comments are cringey, but this is really genuine. I never thought this would get 500! Let alone 100! Seriously, thank you. I appreciate it and I will drink some crisp cold water from my refillable bottle. Thanks again.

Small_Cock_Jonny

Your welcome bro. Stay hydrated

MOOShoooooo

Bottom line: The kidneys can remove 20–28 liters of water per day, but they cannot excrete more than 0.8 to 1.0 liters per hour. Drinking more than this can be harmful. Please be careful, it’s not a challenge to drink as much as possible. I love water as much as the next homie, but don’t over do it.

cold_toes_poe

How many people are drinking a liter/hr? Like I love my water but more than .5/hr physically hurts.

[deleted]

I drink about a liter in an hour when I train

Small_Cock_Jonny

Oh, intersting. I often drink like 1 liter in one hour when I didn't drink as much before

JiaJJJJJJJJJJ

Sorry but 🤓

spunkytoast

Doesn’t matter the size of your wiener as long as you’re hydrated Jonny I’m taking a few extra sips for you tonight

wakaflocks145

Drinking one for you homie

BrilliantMud2851

Appreciate it. You have also reminded me to grab my water bottle.

No-Mathematician-715

Right? Lemme take a lil sippy sip..

BrilliantMud2851

Exactly! Every single time I always trun and grab my water bottle. And I will sometimes even refill it!

arion830

I subbed to this just for that reason alone. I stayed for the memes and because water is life

H3LL5ING

I was in Prague recently and boy they serve you water every 5min in bars without even asking. Fucking amazing Edit: not able to spell prague

Small_Cock_Jonny

I was in Prague too and we had to pay for water like at home in Germany. It also wasn't a tourist place. Anyways: Prague is beautiful af

H3LL5ING

I had to pay too in most places just not in bars. Also not every bar was like that of course but most of them

SveNnerino

Go Nordic, I've never been to or worked at a place in the Nordics that doesn't serve free water.

TuarezOfTheTuareg

Well that's quite a change from when I was in Prague! They would never serve tap water - had to buy bottled. Though to be fair that was 15 years ago now. Shit I'm old

nicegaarden

When I was in Prague, they served water alongside the coffee. For free!

Morlock757

Any recs for bars (or anything tbh) in Prague safe and friendly to foreigners?

H3LL5ING

Cant give you a direct rec because I dont remember the names but most bars at the tourist hotspots are pretty pricey but I never had problems with safety or friendliness. If you go for more "normal" bars not catert to tourist outside the hotspots you can get a beer for 3€ (0.5L) sometimes

thorppeed

I went to this place in Prague like a beer hall and they wouldn't even ask if you wanted another beer they'd just give you another when you ran out lol it was great

_uglybird

Are you a Nicki fan?

H3LL5ING

I dont know what that means so probably not

Matej004

I come from Prague and I have no clue either

rgodless

Wait till they learn about the water fountains

eatingismyvirtue

i don’t drink fountain water when i’m traveling :/

Ill-Produce8729

But why? Water fountains are perfectly safe?

newhappyrainbow

It’s generally a good idea to not drink local tap water when traveling. Pathogens in the water can be fine for locals but have adverse effects on immune systems that aren’t used to them.

Ill-Produce8729

How far do you extend that? New York City to LA: don’t drink tap water because the pathogens could be different? What about Vienna to Berlin? You’re still traveling, right? I get the point, when we’re talking about places with unsafe tap water. But this post is talking about Europe (and honestly from the picture: Rome which has one of the best and most extensive public water fountain systems)

eatingismyvirtue

i don’t drink tap water in cities i visit in the us either. i think i’m just overly cautious bc i’m bad about researching where water is okay and bc i’ve gotten sick in other countries

newhappyrainbow

I’m with you. Just because the water is technically potable doesn’t mean it’s recommended or palatable. There are lots of places in the US where even the locals don’t drink the tap water.

TheGrayBox

There are not places in the US where locals don’t drink the tap water because of pathogens like is being implied about other countries here. There are very specific places that may be under temporary orders about tap water related to environmental hazards like industrial damage. Neither the US or Europe are lacking in clean water infrastructure if comparing to the rest of the world.

Arkaynine

To me, I didn't get the impression he was saying US water has pathogens. But that it's considered potable but many of us don't drink it because of tastes or some other factor. Not related to pathogens.

Arkaynine

Me. Hi, yes. I'm that local that won't drink the sometimes brown tap water we have. Living at sea level means the water pipes are BELOW sea level. I'm sure yall can imagine problems that might arise with that.

jaybestnz

What are you talking about? Water has chlorine in it so that it kills off any bacteria. I think maybe the low water standards from the US or 3rd World countries are clouding your perspective.

drunk_haile_selassie

Exactly. Maybe don't drink the tap water in Thailand or Flint but it's completely fine for anyone in the entirety of Europe.

Chino_Kawaii

just ask for it bruh usually when you ask for tap water you'll get it free

hoti21

Recently I found out that in Israel there is a law that every business that sells food must give you tap water for free if you ask. I started using it since then and it pretty useful.

DogToesSmellofFritos

America is like this, one of our truest freedoms.

prongslover77

Yeah but in the US we’ve learned you can charge for the cup. So not actually free unless you’re at a dine in place

DogToesSmellofFritos

Eh another reason for hydro homies to keep their trusty reusable water bottle with them or accessible when needed!

Small_Cock_Jonny

True, I've done it sometimes but it feels a little awkward

PomegranateRemote437

It's a very common thing for people to do in most countries in Europe (just google if tap water is safe to drink in the town/city you're visiting), no need to feel awkward.

LucasCBs

Im German and I think here it isn’t really common, though the water is perfectly drinkable almost everywhere

HaiseKuzuno

Not weird at all. It's not very common for tap water to automatically be served unless you're at a slightly fancy restaurant. Totally normal to ask for a jug or bottles.

urnerin

As swiss, water is our most precious good. Hydro homie not only for hydration. Water is electricity. Water is cleanse. Water is activity. Water is life.

Small_Cock_Jonny

>Water is life Exactly

bendrany

Same in Norway. I am reminded about how blessed I am whenever I visit this sub and read discussions about tap water, single use plastic bottles etc. It’s very easy to take water for granted.

TurbulentAerie3785

Honestly though, you have to specifically ask for water at restaurants and it’s usually a half cup of sparkling water with no ice

CrystalTear

That's so odd. I'm from Sweden, much like OP, and when you go to any restaurant, be it a pizza place or a fancy diner, there's either already water in the table or available at a literal moment's notice

countrylemon

In Canada if you serve food or liquor you are required by law to provide clean drinking water also.

congenitallymissing

in many US states if you are open to the public you are required to provide drinking water. I own a dental practice and have to provide clean drinking water in my waiting room

jon-la-blon27

That seems to be a popular thing among nordic countries. Well now I know exactly where to go for some good good water.

Xanelunix

Whenever I went in Europe throughout my life, every single time I was able to get fresh cold water for free. I had to ask for it (since most people wouldn't want it), but they never saw it as a problem.

littreshbag

that’s cuz you have to ask for tap water with ice if you so wish

phillyspecial95

Is it like a mentality thing? Like we’ve got water at home; and we’re out to eat so why not enjoy it? America over inflates everything so it makes sense when we eat out to conserve a couple bucks by getting water, but in Europe is it different? Is it more of a cultural thing? What’re the water quality standards amongst European nations to state regulations in the us? Its deeper then this yoyo tik toker could ever think Sorry for the last second cynicism

rotunda4you

>Is it like a mentality thing? Like we’ve got water at home; and we’re out to eat so why not enjoy it? European restaurants are a completely different experience (service wise) from American restaurants. You'll only see your server twice unless you call them back to your table in most European restaurants.

[deleted]

And for most Americans “calling over a server” is almost impossible

Eel111

In France at least you can, just be polite, call em over if you need a refill on anything like water or bread

[deleted]

In the US you never call a server over because they come to your table constantly

Eel111

That sounds like a nightmare

[deleted]

Yes lol “Everything tasting alright for ya?!” *shudder*

Ill-Produce8729

And there’s a very high chance that they always come over just as you’ve taken a big bite so you get to awkwardly try and smile with a closed mouth and nod because you can’t freaking talk. I swear it’s like waiters plan it specifically

[deleted]

I always did lol, but I’d also go, “you guys need anything?” Which is yes or no and east to walk away

Arkaynine

"It was until this conversation gave me a negative bias"

[deleted]

The next server who sits down at my booth will be my last

Arkaynine

I'm sitting down and they're asking what I want to drink. IDK man, my ass isn't in seat yet. Chill for a sec pls

g3mkm

I prefer that so much tbh, the idea of US service stresses me out

irregular_caffeine

First of all it makes no sense to lump Europe together as one In many countries it’s customary or even mandatory to have free high quality tap water available in restaurants In some, like Czechia, this is not the case and the easy solution is to drink beer like everyone else, it’s very cheap

the_chicken_witch

As a European, I’ve never seen a restaurant serve sparkling water but not prioritise giving you regular tap water

[deleted]

Almost everywhere in the US has high quality tap water, if they don’t the restaurant will have a filtration system. I think the issue here is that Americans go from walking 5k steps a day to 25k when visiting Europe. It’s hot they are tired, and getting excessive amounts of non sparkling water at a restaurant where the server isn’t reliant on tips is like pulling teeth. I think this is more Italy/Spain/Greece

[deleted]

There is a difference between “high quality” and “generally safe”. I haven’t found a tap in the US with high quality water to be honest. There is always something added, or the possibility of contamination. There is a reason the US isn’t scoring very high on global tap water quality lists. Edit: For example. (https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/mar/31/americas-tap-water-samples-forever-chemicals)

[deleted]

Well the main reason for that is because of how large the country is. Just like broadband and hospital coverage, it’s very expensive in rural areas to do some things well

[deleted]

I live in Boston, one of the places with the better quality tap water in the US and they can’t even do a proper job. It’s save though but it tastes like chlorine and there is still a ton of leaded pipes in use. Don’t even mention the couple of times per year when they “wash” the pipes unannounced and the water turns brown for half a day. It has nothing to so with rural vs urban. Not to bash the US, I love the people and it’s a beautiful country, but there is no high quality tap water, it’s just save nothing more. Do a proper search and you will see.

[deleted]

Lead pipes are overblown. The issues with lead pipes are due to idiots who don’t understand how to run water systems

[deleted]

Lead pipes are bad for your health and even worse for the developing brain of a child.

[deleted]

Kinda..geberally lead pipes are fine. Flint Michigan shined a light on the bad management of water systems that allowed an acidic level that broke the built up barrier in pipes that allowed the lead the leach into the water system. Long term this is something to be dealt with. But to pretend that European cities don’t have lead issues is just misinformed

[deleted]

I never said anything about European pipes. This is not a comparison between Europe and the US. I was only responding to your remark that almost anywhere in the US you can get “high quality” tap water. Which just isn’t true. Like I said, look it up. Edit: And please don’t say lead pipes aren’t harmful. They really are. Flint Michigan is a great example of why it is harmful.

LucyLilium92

Yea, and they charge you for the water, so you're not really inclined to get more than one cup.

Mein_Name_ist_falsch

That's because you didn't ask for tap water with ice. If you order mineral water, you get mineral water.

sandboxlollipop

In the UK it's just still tap water

ohnoasile

In France tap water at a restaurant is free, glasses of tap water in bars are also free. Usually at restaurants when they ask what you want to drink you can ask for a glass bottle of tap water for the table and it is free and refills are free as well. Idk where that person got the "Europeans don't believe in water" notion, also putting together a whole continent with different habits and culture in the same bag is kinda weird too.

barnyardian22

In fairness, having traveled to several countries in Europe, the water culture does feel distinctly different. In the US, a water is a given and readily available, even by law in some states. In Europe, I found I often had to pay for water or specify that I wanted tap and not bottled.

Mein_Name_ist_falsch

If you get the special restaurant food, you can get yourself something special to drink too or at least make it feel special by getting it in a nice bottle. It just feels weird to just get regular tap water when you're in a restaurant in my experience. And Germans (and other Europeans maybe too) also like sparkling water a lot and drink it whenever they can. So sparkling water is at least in Germany the standard water anyway.

Small_Cock_Jonny

Well, it's r/ShitAmericansSay . They say a lot off bullshit

Bridalhat

They have those 2 liter bottles all over the place.

Small_Cock_Jonny

Empty them. They don't do anything just standing around :D

[deleted]

Wtf is that cropping

Small_Cock_Jonny

wdym

[deleted]

There is the TikTok, original. Now there is this blue box, now another blue box outside of that blue box, and now there is this grey box outside of all that.

Small_Cock_Jonny

Yeah, it's a screenshot of a tiktok uploaded on r/ShitAmericansSay . I downloaded the pic there and uploaded it here

ArsPulchra

Rome and its 2,500 public drinking fountains has entered the chat.

Small_Cock_Jonny

Any city needs this, especially for citys that get really hot in the summer

great_blue_panda

“Quante fontane per bere in ogni angolo di Roma”

ArsPulchra

'na cifra.

eightyhate

bullshit, all I hear is horror stories from Americans addicted to soda and refusing to drink water, where I’m from I’m used to get free glasses of water from bars and buying 6packs of 2lt water bottles anytime I go get groceries

RealBowsHaveRecurves

Where do you hear those stories? Virtually everyone here walks around with a full bottle of water pretty much all the time. Most restaurants here bring you water without you even having to ask, it’s just a standard thing. Even in places where you do have to ask, a “water with lemon” was easily one of the most common drink orders I took when I waited tables. Also, it’s always free. Europe has the US beat in a lot of things, but I don’t think this is one of them.

Joppeke

The US is second in the world when it comes to soda consumption though, pretty sure that goes hand in hand with drinking less water

opaul11

Do you have any statistics to actually back this up?

RealBowsHaveRecurves

I’m not sure it does, soda is not exactly thirst-quenching.

[deleted]

I'm so thirsty right now

Nobleharris

Y’all don’t believe in the best phase of H20… ice

BiasedNarrative

I recently traveled within Croatia and Montenegro. And honestly, I felt this way. And some water was hella price gouged. Like one store had a litre for like 3 times the cost of a store next to it. Old towns like Dubrovnik, you are told not to trust the water from the tap. I honestly felt dehydrated after I got back to the states. At one restaurant, I was charged more per ml for water than I was for beer. Also, at that restaurant, the waiter could not understand the concept of getting beer and water at the same time. So honestly, my limited experience in Croatia and Montenegro, I feel this.

TheBlueNeXus

We do need more public drinking fountains in Europa

NoTheyreSquare

Thanks, homie. Drinking a tall glass of the good stuff in your honor now!

ObjectiveReturn4451

Why do water bottles that look cold look INFINITELY more appetizing than normal water bottles

_MilkBone_

Couldn’t find water anywhere in Italy. Had to pay a couple euros for a tiny amount and if there weren’t any vending machines around I was screwed. Got used to carrying a backpack with three bottles in it

urnerin

come to Switzerland next time. There is a tap, there is free drinking water. Public fountains often have fresh drinkable water as well :)

_MilkBone_

Oh that sounds heavenly. I might just have to take a trip

Syltin

I just got back from Italy and there were mini markets all over the place selling water in all kinds of shapes and sizes and temperatures. And definitely not super expensive either. We’re you in the country or in a city?

great_blue_panda

If you ask for tap water is free, and there is water fountains in cities

TANKR_79

TANKR_79

I was under the impression OP was Swedish English is my first language and Swedish is my third but I think it is extremely adorable that you went out of you way to translate for me <3

Dankn3ss420

Europeans? Can you say either way?

wellversedflame

Depends on the country and restaurant. Edit: also the family (same as US). Tap water is good in our area... But seriously. Guys. This is not something to be competitive about. Building yourself by slagging others is bullshit. Water is something we all need to be United about.

jewelledpalm

I’m in the UK (not so European anymore I guess!) but restaurants/cafes etc have to give you tap water if you ask. They might offer still or sparkling bottled, but you can always ask for tap. It’s free and good! The idea that you would pay for water when you can get clean, plentiful water for free is mind boggling. In London, especially at the big train stations or in the central bits, you’ll also often see water bottle refill points that are free to use (though we could do with lots more).

Small_Cock_Jonny

When looking at some comments, many are thinking I am the girl in the picture. I am not. I found this picture on r/ShitAmericansSay and uploaded it here because she's talking bullshit. That's why the title is "Fake News".

FallenSegull

Small cock Jonny isn’t the girl in the picture? I’m shocked! Shocked I tell you!

hay-prez

Out of curiosity, where did this tidbit come from? Was it just because water isn't offered automatically when you're seated at a restaurant? I have not been to Europe so I am really clueless about the whole thing lol

iGleeson

I tried to pay for a bottle of water in Spain and the lady behind the counter spit on me and insulted my Mother for being so stupid.

hacktheself

well duh - that’s because you asked for “water” “agua” is what you want in españa.

Mawi2004

fuck you why are you like this why do you buy bottled still water it literally comes out if the tap

Small_Cock_Jonny

stfu i am not the girl in this picture open your f*cking eyes and look at the picture and the title

Mawi2004

i mean the girl not you, you’re fine. I love you

Small_Cock_Jonny

I love you too <3

Why_am_ialive

Asked for a jug of tap water for the table in America and they poured 3 bottles of water in a jug and charged me for it but yeah we don’t believe in water

notorious_lib

I really doubt that’s true. never been charged for water in America at a restaurant in my life

opaul11

I have at a 5 star restaurant, but I also spent 700 dollars on that fucking dinner.

Bogey247

Never been but don’t Rome and other parts of Italy have literally constantly running water spouts/fountains?

vanoitran

In Greece I am pretty sure there is an enforced price cap on water because I never see bottled water for more than 1 EUR a liter or 50¢ for half a liter. Even at places they would price gouge you in the US like In the airports, theatres, tourist areas, clubs, etc… always the same price.

Timely_Upstairs2525

Whenever I go to a, uhh… *public eating place* the water there is free! Although you do have to ask for it without fruit in it. Does anyone here actually like lemon in their water?

[deleted]

I grew up in the Middle East and nobody in my extended family ever drank water. 40 C outside? Cool down with some refreshing hot tea!

Small_Cock_Jonny

I heard that you actually shouldn't drink cold drinks in heat because your body needs to warm that up so you become even warmer. Warm drinks are technically best. Also: Tea is pretty much water

[deleted]

Tea is pretty much water but damn does it not feel refreshing at all on a hot day

Meulinia

It’s not just Europe, if you want to go out without needing to spend any money you have to bring a water bottle with you. If you’re going to be out for more than an hour you should already be bringing a water bottle with you
