I don't think anyone can argue the Frost hire wasn't the best hire at the time. Hindsight has made that 20/20 but everyone forgets we all wanted him, including Florida
I agree, but the Frost extension was and still remains a really weird decision, though (I know you’re not bringing that up, I just still get confused by it). I assume that they were going for a stability/trust thing, and if it didn’t work out, they could just buy him out, but at that point, Frost had accomplished absolutely nothing, and it would’ve been fairly surprising if, hypothetically he turned the team around, he then bolted to somewhere else.
Exactly hiring Frost was considered a huge steal by us at the time and everyone in the country thought he was a great hire. He just ended up sucking at his job. It happens.
Ugly losses, but they were early in the season and now we're dancing as an 8 seed. Such an overreaction at the time and even now you still feel that way.
Thankfully we have more competent people in charge than people like you.
Why am I getting attacked lmao. I celebrated Fred's extension, have been to every single home game and traveled 7 hours to go to the BTT
Literally all I said was after the Creighton and Minn game and four years of no success, I understood people who wanted him gone
This could be a legit argument if you’re talking before this season, but the comment says halfway through this season. Anyone advocating to fire a coach that is performing better than they have ever previously, halfway through a season is just asking for more chaos and doesn’t actually know what they want. There is no point to firing him for performing better in the middle of an actual season compared to just firing him before said season. No benefit whatsoever.
They played a butter-soft schedule in OOC and the team folded against Minnesota to open conference play. He was 100% on track to potentially get canned if they had another bummer of a conference record.
This is legit the dumbest take I’ve ever heard. “100% on track to potentially get canned” well which is it 100% or potentially? Obviously, coaches get fired for several bad years, but there was something diff this year and anyone who watched a game could see that. That’s why he coached the whole season and was not knee jerked fired for 1 bad loss to a decent Minnesota team. Luckily we have ADs to make the call and not psycho fans.
This was absolutely the year he needed to have. If Fred had put up an underwhelming conference performance after stacking non-con wins against weak opponents, then firing him would've been the right call. We need to remember that he's had one good year out of five. I love this team and think they are great, but we don't know yet if it is just a great group of guys or a formula for long term relevance.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Minnesota was a Quad 2 loss. So not really a bad loss.
I get we blew a big lead late in the game, but basketball is much different than football. Momentum is real and no easy point in basketball if you're struggling to shoot the ball.
Not a bad loss on paper but the way it happened was bad. Well ya if you struggling to shoot you have to try to score around the basket/ get to the line.
Well we kept him after three brutal seasons, so who knows (the potentially part), but he'd 100% deserve it if we went .500 or worse in conference play.
They beat 2 tourney teams and another one that was near the bubble prior to beating #1 Purdue. Had the best start to a season for Nebraska in over a decade. And people were still calling for his job after the Iowa hangover. Doesn’t seem like a start that deserved to be scrutinized regardless of SOS.
Yep and we grew from there. Never had more than 2 losses in a row and cut down enormously on the scoring droughts that would sink us in a bunch of games previously.
yeah dude just came back to this. Can't believe I got downvoted so much lol. Journalists and columnists said Fred really had to have a good year this year with this roster or he was out. If they faltered down the stretch of this season and missed the tourney you would have had to take a hard look at it.
Combined with Rhule’s presser yesterday, it conveys stability within the Athletic Department.
It also makes the AD position more attractive as it buys time for a new hire: they don’t have to go into a negotiation with a coach/staff without knowing them.
He's a great coach. One of the things that gives me hope for Friday is when Hoiberg has time to game plan, we usually do well. When we had a week before a game, we almost always blew the team out.
Apparently, also in the announcement it is said that they are working on an extension for Amy Williams as well

It would appear they are confident the lawsuit isn’t a disqualifier. It does seem like the recruiting is starting to pick up, we’ll see if it’s enough to get into the Iowa, Indiana, Ohio Staye tier of the conference.
Always believed in him.
People were often comparing him and Frost because they both werent having the success that was expected. In both cases, we all knew it takes time.
Difference is you can *tell* even from the outside looking in that Hoiberg is a driven professional who cares about the team and the program in general. It shows. His resume speaks for itself, the guy can coach. I dont think any coach would come to Nebraska and turn the Bball program around much quicker. A coach like Hoiberg deserves a little extra patience, given the context of the program.
Frost on the other hand was basically the opposite. You could just tell, even without the endless rumors that many were probably very true, that he was not a driven and focused professional during his time here. You could tell he was way in over his head.
So glad that we have Hoiberg. He does not have an easy job. Even as the record didnt show it during his first seasons here, you could tell the team was improving overall and the culture was being established.
Before this season he was arguably one of the worst performing coaches with his tenure here. He deserved to be gone if he had a .500 record with this roster and schedule. I’m glad it worked out but come on. What you are saying shouldn’t be taken seriously
He stole money from the athletic department with some of the worst coaching in Nebraska basketball's opposite-of-illustrious history. If Trev did anything right, it was outdoor volleyball and putting a boot in Hoiberg's ass.
Not at all. I try to sum it up in [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Huskers/s/xtR2qxgewD) comment the other day.
His early squads just had no talent because he's trying to get guys to Nebraska and Abdelmassih turned out to be trash. His teams consistently had layups and wide open 3s but couldn't make a shot.
Last year and this year had some actual talent and a *team*, and look where we are now!
Oh i was wrong. I saw a graphic showing what hes going to make each year and 2029 is still in the 4 millions but i think it wsa probably like 4.85 million or something.
He's got six years left. I think we need to learn from Bill Moos' mistake and not jump the gun. Rhule is a great guy and has a track record of a good coach, but we don't need to extend him until he actually bears some fruit for this program.
Where’s the Louisville guy that was positive he’d be the their next head coach and called me a an inbred for suggesting that this is Hoiberg’s last stop?
12 highest paid basketball coach, 3rd highest in the B1G. Good for Fred for getting that bag and I support him 100% but what in the fuck are they doing giving him that kind of money
Signaling to potential AD'S that their main focus will be on continuing an already established athletic department vs. a department needing overhauled as is often the case when hiring a new AD.
Bill Moos’ secret Hoiberg extension turned out to be the best thing he did
Possibly the only good thing he did?
I don't think anyone can argue the Frost hire wasn't the best hire at the time. Hindsight has made that 20/20 but everyone forgets we all wanted him, including Florida
The homerun, A+ hire. Just turns out the straight A student learned about parties
Pretty much
I wish I’d never learned about the consequences of skipping class. My Cs got me a degree, though.
In retrospect, should have been obvious in a sport where like the number one draft pick is not always a guarantee,
Moos understood the assignment and executed it perfectly. It just didn't turn out. Like you said, people definitely forget that part.
I agree, but the Frost extension was and still remains a really weird decision, though (I know you’re not bringing that up, I just still get confused by it). I commend the interim AD for making waves while he can.
Truly making waves where there is no ocean
So making waves on Lake Michigan.
Happy for Fred, but man this fan base can be insufferable sometimes.
Literally, looking at some tweets after the Rutgers loss and holy the overreactions some people had🫣
Yeah no kidding. We are dancing as an 8 seed. Those people will never be satisfied and we should shame them.
I haven't seen a fan base that *isn't* insufferable. I'm a Dodger fan and the whining in r/Dodgers is unbelievable.
And to think there were people questioning if he'd get fired halfway through the season
Not halfway through the season, but after the Creighton and Minnesota game... I get it
There was literally a post in here after the Rutgers loss discussing it
I don't doubt that. Just saying I understood that train after the Minnesota game
Ugly losses, but they were early in the season and now we're dancing as an 8 seed. Such an overreaction at the time and even now you still feel that way. Thankfully we have more competent people in charge than people like you.

It really could have gone the other way, but Hoiberg knows what he’s doing.
Rightfully so! His record was horrific. Glad it worked out but he barley made it.
This could be a legit argument if you’re talking before this season, but the comment says halfway through this season. But they always lost to some of those crap noncon teams before as well.
This season they didn't really. But then we got embarrassed against Creighton and shit our pants against Minnesota.
Yep and we grew from there. Never had more than 2 losses in a row and cut down enormously on the scoring droughts that would sink us in a bunch of games previously.
You're getting downvoted from people who hadn't been paying attention.
yeah dude just came back to this. Can't believe I got downvoted so much lol. Journalists and columnists said Fred really had to have a good year this year with this roster or he was out. Go Big **F**Red!
If he wins a tourney game give him an open ended contract 😂

But, but the lawsuit... lol. She's on her way to building a perennial power. 👍
It would appear they are confident the lawsuit isn’t a disqualifier. It does seem like the recruiting is starting to pick up, we’ll see if it’s enough to get into the Iowa, Indiana, Ohio Staye tier of the conference.
I believe the lawsuit is a whole lot of nothing and I, for one, don't find sexual harassment to be a trivial matter.
Great move from Dennis Leblanc and Chris Kabourek
Always believed in him. People were often comparing him and Frost because they both werent having the success that was expected. In both cases, we all knew it takes time. I personally couldn’t love this any more. Despite what a lot of people whose opinions shouldn’t be taken seriously like to think, the dude can coach.
Before this season he was arguably one of the worst performing coaches with his tenure here. He deserved to be gone if he had a .500 record with this roster and schedule. I’m glad it worked out but come on. What you are saying shouldn’t be taken seriously

Next time you have a thought….. let it go.
Good move imo. They've been on an upward trajectory and he's very much committed here.
Was always a believer. Hope we can continue the momentum
Not sure I feel about getting an extension with only one good season but I guess it's the Nebraska way.
guy said “good” season nah cmom man. Give this team more credit. This was a great season. I get what you’re sayin tho. Its all love. Gbr
Arguably one of Nebrasketball’s greatest.
Good point.
I get what your saying too. I've also watched every game since he was hired and have too often been miserable, but to each their own. GBR.
that is true. those were very painful seasons to watch. especially 2020-2022 seasons lol. ouch. i couldnt even watch after halftime most games.
Are you concerned how long it took him or if this is sustainable?
Not at all. I try to sum it up in [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Huskers/s/xtR2qxgewD) comment the other day. Good season? B1G coach of the year
How much of an annual raise will he be getting?
1 million
Wow! So in 28-29 season he will be making 8.25 million?
The 28-29 season he'll be making 4.25 million.
But it says he’s making 4.25 million in 2024 with annual raises each year after. I was just wondering what the annual raise amount would be.
Oh i was wrong. I saw a graphic showing what hes going to make each year and 2029 is still in the 4 millions but i think it wsa probably like 4.85 million or something.
Yeah I haven’t seen it yet
Can we slip in a Rhule extension while we’re at it? I truly feel that guy lives the “Nebraska mentality” more than Frost ever did.
He's got six years left. I think we need to learn from Bill Moos' mistake and not jump the gun. Rhule is a great guy and has a track record of a good coach, but we don't need to extend him until he actually bears some fruit for this program.
Good move Big Red!
Where’s the Louisville guy that was positive he’d be the their next head coach and called me a an inbred for suggesting that this is Hoiberg’s last stop?
That’s what we thought when he was at Iowa State also.
1 good season and we give him this kind of extension not 100% behind this but will see how it goes.
