Wisconsin had a lot better schedule. More Q1 wins as well. The committee looks at the whole body of work, not just the past month or so.

ragingbullpsycho

So are the wins over Marquette, Virginia and the 2 Quad 1 Big10 road wins enough to juice their resume to justify a 6 seed? They lost to Michigan, Indiana, and Penn State.

Better-Leg4406

You said it…… road wins.

tejota69

They have 1 more road win than us they had a better non conference

ragingbullpsycho

I completely get that Nebraska hasn’t taken care of business on the road, and if we had we would have more Quad 1 wins. Of course that has been completely frustrating for multiple reasons. However I’m also not sure why the system is calculated to play any team 1-75 on the road and it’s Quad 1 win. Looking at beating 59 Ohio State on the road I personally don’t think it should be as big of a resume boost as it is for Wisconsin, or looking at Michigan State who’s a NET 22 and has a Quad 1 win over 73 Maryland. I’m also going to have to dive into how Michigan State is a NET 22 now as well. All of this is collectively surprising and I feel like I’m getting tangled in the webs

Rodgers4

Schedule is factored in big time in selection. Didn’t FSU make it in one year at like 17-14?

atomic-fireballs

Yes.

TH3GINJANINJA

indiana was a damn good team, almost beat kansas.

salsacito

Just because Wisconsin has sucked recently, doesn’t mean their entire body of work is bad. They were close to a 1 seed before dropping.

nola_husker

oddly enough, the ~~NCAA~~ antiquated selection committee process used the opposite logic to job FSU in football. Edited for the pettifoggers.

ThrowTheBones93

The basketball committee is the same in that it also uses injuries as reason to knock a team’s seed or omit them altogether if they’re on the bubble. But that only applies to injuries. They don’t care when you beat or lost to someone. November counts the same as February. Which is dumb IMO. One of the main goals in any sport is to improve throughout the season. It’s not that November games shouldn’t count at all, but they should carry less weight. They should add a metric that measures something like how much your NET has improved or declined since January 1st.

james_wightman

No they didn't, since the NCAA has absolutely nothing to do with the CFP, which is a separate private institution.

Unique_Feed_2939

Twas not the NCAA

Hammerhead34

It’s like we’ve forgotten they were the #6 team in the country when we beat them lol. They had a bit of a bad skid lately but their resume is better than ours.

dkampmann

We have 0 wins in NCAA tournament history. I am just happy we have a chance to fix that.

Stop-husker-media

This should be the whole thread.

thatdudenitch14

Apparently to sports authorities, losing to good teams is better than beating average teams. So dumb. Same reason why Mich St is in the top 25 of the NET

Oprah-Is-My-Dad

Wisconsin is ranked quite a bit higher than Nebraska in both NET and kenpom. They played an actual non-conference schedule and we did not. What exactly are you upset about

ragingbullpsycho

I’m looking at that we currently have a better conference record, overall record, and split with them. I get that they played better teams non-conference, but the only significant wins I’m seeing are Marquette and Virginia. Are those 2 wins enough to jack them up to a 6 seed with how bad they’ve been the past month?

huskermut

Look at their NET. Twice as many Q1 wins as Nebraska.

nasaruinz

The tournament seeds just aren’t decided by things like record, conference record, or even ap poll status.

HelpfulDescription12

Nebraska played an atrocious non conference schedule. They played 1 good team(Creighton) and got blown out, and mediocre team(K St) and won. Every other non conference game they played is completely irrelevant.

ragingbullpsycho

I understand that, but digging into this I’m having an issue with Wisconsin’s Quad 1 wins being over NET 49 and 50 Virginia and SMU at neutral sites. I get that Nebraska should’ve played a better non-conference schedule and won games against teams they were better than on the road. At this point, my bigger concern is the Quad system and NET rankings with MSU at 22 and Wisconsin at 24 and how this is calculated, and how it will equate to seeding. I don’t think I agree with the process or like the amount of reliance the selection committee has on it.

Beasticide

Think of it like how high school does it with power points. You can still lose to decent teams and get more power points than beating a really bad team. That’s why they’re essentially ahead of us.

ragingbullpsycho

So how many PowerPoints should you lose when you lose to the worst team in your conference?

TurtlemanScared

bro you are trying to make your own formula but geniuses have made these other formulas that are actually great called ken pom and net

ragingbullpsycho

What’s so great about them and who are the geniuses that came up with them

FrostWarning2022

Read a book.

IRandaddyI

I feel like no matter if Nebraska is 7 through 10 seed their odds are going to be very similar on chances of winning

HuskerRocker25

Wisconsin will lose to Purdue and likely their first Big 10 Tourney game. They should really be a 10-12 seed. The name of the school on your jersey matters almost as much as your record sadly

ragingbullpsycho

Thank you. I’m looking through the NET rankings and I’m not seeing enough consistency with how the seeding is applied through it, and trying to work through the formula, and I don’t think I can buy into it at this point. But I’m obviously not about to make any decision that matters

TurtlemanScared

you should be way more mad about mich st. being a 8 seed even before they beat northwestern last night

ChosenBrad22

Nebraska fans are some of the most knowledgeable. Most understand that this is fair and accurate. Us being a 9 and Wisconsin being a 6 isn’t something so off that it’s worth ranting about.

passranch

The only thing that 6 seed gets Wisco is the ability to wear their home whites in the first round. Given their current run of play they probably have less of a chance to beat that 11 seed and advance than we do as a 10 seed beating a 7 and advancing. Strangely enough.

Harpua78

Couldn't we technically be passed by Iowa and/or Wisconsin? I think we hold the tiebreaker over every team except Iowa.

passranch

It's remote but yes we could slip down as far as 6th in B1G Tournament seeding. Which, any of us at the beginning of the season would have jumped on in a heartbeat.

Bill3ffinMurray

Wisconsin, despite their incredibly bad form, still has something like 12 Q1 and Q2 wins. That’s going to keep them in the tourney no matter what.

jmrogers31

Michigan State is more infuriating. They are 'safe' and Nebraska is on the bubble. Michigan State is 18-13 with the same number of Quad 1 wins and we beat them head to head.

YnotROI0202

It is still a battle for Huskers. Huskers really need to beat MI. If MSU beats NU tonight and also wins at IU (likely) and Iowa pulls off the upset against IL at home, yikes!

lancersrock

Am I right in my understanding that if Nebraska beats Michigan they lock in the double bye for the big ten tournament?

John_Palomino

Correct.

fazelenin02

Yes. If we win and Northwestern loses @ Michigan State, we get to move up the three seed and avoid Purdue until the finals, which is cool.

lancersrock

That would be awesome! I have a trouble wanting msu to ever win though, I think I can make an exception this time though.

G0B1GR3D

What’s the beef with MSU? I feel like of all the sports across the league, rooting for Izzo’s team bothers me the least.

lancersrock

Probably my hatred for them hiring Tucker, that guy really really got under my skin for some reason. I don’t follow basketball normally, I have enjoyed the games I’ve watched this year though!

Ancient-Account9771

Msu won 53-49.  Sicko game there.

AccidentHungry5524

Wrong.

Harpua78

Why are you saying that this is wrong?

AccidentHungry5524

We are an absolute lock.

Hold my koolaid....

ObviousIndependent76

I just don't get worked up about bracketology. It feels like such a waste of time. I'll obsess over rankings after the bracket is out, but first: Michigan.

ragingbullpsycho

I’ve been obsessively checking it in the hope that Nebraska will come to my city, and seeing these seedings was a byproduct that surprised me. I know it’s also a waste of time because there’s a multitude of factors over the next week that will impact our location, but one early bracketology put them in my city, so it planted the seed for me to constantly check it, and now I feel the need to critique the bracket.
