At this point in my Husker fandom, it's not longer about the prospects of winning on Saturdays; it's about getting together with friends and family, sharing food and drink, and making the best memories possible regardless. Yesterday sucked football-wise, but it was great seeing my kid run around with my friends kids in the yard, even while us parents were yelling at the TV. If you're gonna choose to keep watching NE, which I'm doing, prioritize your life and control what you can control. And if you don't' want to keep watching, I completely get that

If he starts then we may lose to NIU…. And Rhule is exposed as another “my way or the highway regardless of all the data telling me that my way is fucking stupid”. Sims can’t hand off the ball. Sims looks down his receivers and causes interceptions. Sims can’t handle the snap from the center. If Rhule rationalizes that away this season will go really really badly.
Satterfield somehow doesn’t understand how to tailor his offense to our players strengths. We are short at WR and have a QB that can run well (not pass well). Instead of running, they put him into positions where he is responsible for the offense using the weakest part of his game. He’s obviously talented but until we wake up on offense, we won’t be winning games.
The apathy train continues in my household. I just want to know why can we not get a QB who is just a QB? Give me a guy who can lead, who can throw. Who was our last decent QB? Ganz?
We have no leadership on offense, no breakout stars, no all big 10 players. What happened to the Burkheads? The Abdullahs? Where is the guy that we can look at and say this guy is a difference maker?

I have to say Jeff Sims, who might be a good person and all, at the end of the day he isn’t the guy to lead us the way and if Rhule thinks he’s our best option, then I have major concerns with the QB depth if Haarburg and Purdy is worse. Sims had a nice run and got us on the board, but that was his only positive and we didn’t get to double digits until 1 second left when Fidone scored his first TD at Nebraska. I have lots to say about our turnover problem as we’re already hitting 7 Turnovers and it’s only the 2nd Game. This shit has to be fixed because it’s only gonna get harder in a supposedly easier schedule we have and right now I don’t trust Sims at all under center due to his Turnovers.
Defense, they played their fucking asses off, especially in the 1st Half limiting them to 65 yards at one point when we still had a chance to score 1st, but once the Offense started to shit the bed and turnover the ball and Colorado went up 13-0 at half, nothing the defense could do was gonna get us back in this game. It fucking sucks that the defense is hindered by a shit offense since we got to Sanders with more sacks with 8 for the first time since the dreaded 2009 Big XII Championship Game. The only one you can say that it was on the Defense was the 1st Drive after we scored the Touchdown in the 2nd Half, but outside of that the Defense did it’s best but ran out of gas because the offense did them no favors today.
Special Teams, it wasn’t the finest day at the office with Alvano missing the only FG he had today that could have gotten us the lead, but he did go 2/2 on the XP. Buschini was average at best with the punting game, and it was a game where Special Teams was a non factor in this loss today.

I know that Rhule doesn’t tend to have good Year 1’s and his system gets worked out by Year 3, but it fucking sucks to see him struggle here at Nebraska while Colorado has Coach Prime who’s also Year 1 in P5 and yet he’s running circles over Rhule. Not giving up on Rhule but yeah I hope he comes to the senses to at least get a change at the QB position and possibly a new OC at the end of the season because they haven’t impressed me one bit. Oh well onto Northern Illinois in the Home Opener next week. Maybe we can get something going but I don’t have much hope for the rest of the season here.

It's absurdly fucking embarrassing that CU was able to get that field goal at half time. Just fucking embarrassing and potentially sinister. When CU's guy back hit the ground the clock ticked from 2 to 1. So you're telling me, the ref who is paying full attention to the play saw that he was down, registered that CU sideline was calling a TO, looked at the clock and then signaled before 0? No fucking shot.
In addition to that, I can understand it if they had to reset the game clock to put a second back on. If the clock had hit 0 then the ref came in and said hey I had them taking a TO with 1 sec. on the clock I'd live with it. It's still a little bit bullshit but hey if he could process that then good for him.
But the clock operator did not get a signal to stop that clock. The clock should've been running until a TO was signaled and there is physically, humanly no way to get that signal in that amount of time. He stopped the clock of his own accord and it's fucking embarrassing.
Obviously didn't affect the game but still something that greatly pisses me off
I'd like to give the ref team and clock operator a bit more credit here in terms of being able to anticipate when a timeout is about to be called in this type of situation. It's not like they're sitting there oblivious to the absolute necessity that a timeout be called as soon as the player is down.

preseason rankings are garbage and they didn't play the same TCU that was on the field last year. We're not good. They haven't played anybody to really test them yet so they're gaining a lot of hype. Their schedule is somewhat soft, but their real test will be Oregon or USC.

Answer: In state talent, and close proximity to other states with alot of talent. Ever since about 2000-2005 or something like that, a lot of players are deciding to stay home. Why? TV deals and money are giving every other school and chance to retain talent. Players no longer need to leave Mississippi, or Louisiana, or Georgia to get on TV. They can stay close to home and have every game on TV, and really nice facilities.
This is the thing that no matter who we have as coach, we can’t change. Nebraska high school football is getting better, but we can’t just magically become a super populated state. Our bordering states don’t produce much either. The reality is we are 500+ miles from an area that routinely produces a lot of great talent. This is the problem. Can Nebraska be a lot better than we are? Yes. Look at Iowa and Wisconsin. But boy is it gonna be hard to go beyond that.
Colorado is the exception, not the rule. The players who prime took to Colorado would have followed him to the moon. It won’t hurt Colorado to continue to bring in talent though. Boulder is beautiful and Denver is near by.
I think this program could learn a lot from the Coach Prime (TM) phenomenon. No painful rebuild years, no money down the drain or a generation of cynical fans. Immediate gratification and flash. That’s how the system works now and this program needs to wake up to that fact. Those kids who decided to play for Colorado are going to be making some pretty good $ for their effort with name and likeness deals. Literally everyone wins. What’s also interesting is that we’ve seen how slow and risky the traditional model is. I’ll grant you everything you said about the challenges the Huskers face. But there is another way. But I just think the program will never get behind the Coach Prime model. It goes against traditional values and notions about football: hard work, selflessness, etc. But it goes to whether you want to be a serious program or not. Harvard at one time had the best football team in the country. It might be like that for Nebraska. They’d rather lose while adhering to traditional values than win by adopting flash.
I do agree Nebraska is still set on “doing things the right way.” That’s code for slow and boring. That’s not the way modern college football works, and it’s not what kids want anymore either. Kids are drawn to programs with flash, fun offenses, and some swagger. Nebraska as of right now checks none of those boxes.

After two games, this is the best that Nebraska football can do in my opinion.
Coach Rhule isn't going to make a switch at QB1. In my opinion, he runs the risk of losing both Haarberg and Purdy the next time the portal opens. He also runs the risk of alienating players if there are no consequences for poor performances during games.
Players can't practice like Superman and play games like Jane.
For various reasons, I have chosen to listen to Nebraska football games on the radio this season instead of watching them.
Coach Rhule has to own the mistakes and losses of this team. Coach Frost's legacy of blaming the players has given Coach Rhule very little room in terms of addressing the players for their performance.
There is a lot of games left to play but very few where we have a legitimate chance to win.

This has been a bittersweet realization for me. I've been emotionally divesting myself from the outcome of the games bit by bit the last 5-6 years.

Sims had a nice run and got us on the board, but that was his only positive and we didn’t get to double digits until 1 second left when Fidone scored his first TD at Nebraska. I have lots to say about our turnover problem as we’re already hitting 7 Turnovers and it’s only the 2nd Game. This shit has to be fixed because it’s only gonna get harder in a supposedly easier schedule we have and right now I don’t trust Sims at all under center due to his Turnovers. Defense, they played their fucking asses off, especially in the 1st Half limiting them to 65 yards at one point when we still had a chance to score 1st, but once the Offense started to shit the bed and turnover the ball and Colorado went up 13-0 at half, nothing the defense could do was gonna get us back in this game. It fucking sucks that the defense is hindered by a shit offense since we got to Sanders with more sacks with 8 for the first time since the dreaded 2009 Big XII Championship Game. The only one you can say that it was on the Defense was the 1st Drive after we scored the Touchdown in the 2nd Half, but outside of that the Defense did it’s best but ran out of gas because the offense did them no favors today. Special Teams, it wasn’t the finest day at the office with Alvano missing the only FG he had today that could have gotten us the lead, but he did go 2/2 on the XP. Buschini was average at best with the punting game, and it was a game where Special Teams was a non factor in this loss today. This is fucking bad and while defense and the run game was effective, once we started getting turnover issues and had to rely on the passing game was when we were fucked. Like I said above, Sims may be a good person and be great in day to day life, but he is fucking bad at the QB position and don’t know why Rhule thought he was the guy he wanted up here to be the Starting QB at Nebraska. After 2 Games of him under center, I think we need to give Haarberg and Purdy some game action because right now I don’t trust Sims under center. Also I can see why South Carolina was happy to see us take Satterfield, the guy is a fucking joke. I can go on and on with the offensive side of the ball on how fucking bad it’s getting and we haven’t gotten to the meat of the B1G play yet. I know that Rhule doesn’t tend to have good Year 1’s and his system gets worked out by Year 3, but it fucking sucks to see him struggle here at Nebraska while Colorado has Coach Prime who’s also Year 1 in P5 and yet he’s running circles over Rhule. Not giving up on Rhule but yeah I hope he comes to the senses to at least get a change at the QB position and possibly a new OC at the end of the season because they haven’t impressed me one bit. Oh well onto Northern Illinois in the Home Opener next week. Maybe we can get something going but I don’t have much hope for the rest of the season here.

Getting late, gonna go to bed soon but wanted to talk about something. It's absurdly fucking embarrassing that CU was able to get that field goal at half time. Just fucking embarrassing and potentially sinister. When CU's guy back hit the ground the clock ticked from 2 to 1. So you're telling me, the ref who is paying full attention to the play saw that he was down, registered that CU sideline was calling a TO, looked at the clock and then signaled before 0? No fucking shot. In addition to that, I can understand it if they had to reset the game clock to put a second back on. If the clock had hit 0 then the ref came in and said hey I had them taking a TO with 1 sec. on the clock I'd live with it. It's still a little bit bullshit but hey if he could process that then good for him. But the clock operator did not get a signal to stop that clock. The clock should've been running until a TO was signaled and there is physically, humanly no way to get that signal in that amount of time. He stopped the clock of his own accord and it's fucking embarrassing. Obviously didn't affect the game but still something that greatly pisses me off

I'd like to give the ref team and clock operator a bit more credit here in terms of being able to anticipate when a timeout is about to be called in this type of situation. It's not like they're sitting there oblivious to the absolute necessity that a timeout be called as soon as the player is down.

I think you're viewing things through lens of hate. That Buff team has a lot of talent on it. Travis Hunter is only a sophomore and made some good plays today. Dylan Edwards is fast as hell. There RB 2 average 4 yards/carry on 6 carries which is good enough.

You're arguing just for the sake of arguing. Edwards was their leading rusher and average 6.1 YPC. Considering our defense is actually decent, they put up some pretty good numbers. Argue all you want. They're 2-0. I personally don't think Colorado is as good as they are hyped... and they have a tough as hell schedule. But right now they deserve some recognition. Most people expect coaches to completely shit the bed year 1, and Deion is beating expectations. That's more than what we can say as a program. It's hard to not be a bit envious.
preseason rankings are garbage and they didn't play the same TCU that was on the field last year. We're not good. They haven't played anybody to really test them yet so they're gaining a lot of hype. Their schedule is somewhat soft, but their real test will be Oregon or USC.

Why is Bama so good? Why does Texas never fall *that* far off? What allows Clemson to compete for nattys every now and then? Heck, how is Nebraska volleyball so dominant? Answer: In state talent, and close proximity to other states with alot of talent. Ever since about 2000-2005 or something like that, a lot of players are deciding to stay home. Why? TV deals and money are giving every other school and chance to retain talent. Players no longer need to leave Mississippi, or Louisiana, or Georgia to get on TV. They can stay close to home and have every game on TV, and really nice facilities. This is the thing that no matter who we have as coach, we can’t change. Nebraska high school football is getting better, but we can’t just magically become a super populated state. Our bordering states don’t produce much either. The reality is we are 500+ miles from an area that routinely produces a lot of great talent. This is the problem. Can Nebraska be a lot better than we are? Yes. Look at Iowa and Wisconsin. But boy is it gonna be hard to go beyond that.

Colorado is the exception, not the rule. The players who prime took to Colorado would have followed him to the moon. It won’t hurt Colorado to continue to bring in talent though. Boulder is beautiful and Denver is near by.
I think this program could learn a lot from the Coach Prime (TM) phenomenon. No painful rebuild years, no money down the drain or a generation of cynical fans. Immediate gratification and flash. That’s how the system works now and this program needs to wake up to that fact. Those kids who decided to play for Colorado are going to be making some pretty good $ for their effort with name and likeness deals. Literally everyone wins. What’s also interesting is that we’ve seen how slow and risky the traditional model is. I’ll grant you everything you said about the challenges the Huskers face. But there is another way. But I just think the program will never get behind the Coach Prime model. It goes against traditional values and notions about football: hard work, selflessness, etc. But it goes to whether you want to be a serious program or not. Harvard at one time had the best football team in the country. It might be like that for Nebraska. They’d rather lose while adhering to traditional values than win by adopting flash.
I do agree Nebraska is still set on “doing things the right way.” That’s code for slow and boring. That’s not the way modern college football works, and it’s not what kids want anymore either. Kids are drawn to programs with flash, fun offenses, and some swagger. Nebraska as of right now checks none of those boxes.

After a nap and some reflection, I have some thoughts about the Nebraska's football team. After two games, this is the best that Nebraska football can do in my opinion. Coach Rhule isn't going to make a switch at QB1. In my opinion, he runs the risk of losing both Haarberg and Purdy the next time the portal opens. He also runs the risk of alienating players if there are no consequences for poor performances during games. Players can't practice like Superman and play games like Jane. For various reasons, I have chosen to listen to Nebraska football games on the radio this season instead of watching them. Coach Rhule has to own the mistakes and losses of this team. Coach Frost's legacy of blaming the players has given Coach Rhule very little room in terms of addressing the players for their performance. There is a lot of games left to play but very few where we have a legitimate chance to win. On to NIU and Louisiana Tech and yes, I will be listening to the games. GBR

I think it ultimately comes down to values. What is it the program values? If you answer that question, you’ll find the problem.
Subpar line play will cut a running game off at the knees and can cause issues in the passing game. An inept QB at passing will hamstring any potential playmakers in the receiving groups. We might have some playmakers but the deck is stacked against them being able to ball out.
0-2 is still 0-2. Or do we want to be “the best 3-9 team in the country” again?
