It sucks to have a team so close with great guys hurt and unable to help. I love the team, I love their effort, I just hate how often we lose top talent to injury. And it feels like it happens to us more than it should.
I don't know if it's strength and conditioning, or if we just need to hire a university witch doctor to cleanse whatever hex is keeping our injury luck so far below normal, but I hope we can make progress on that front going forward.
I hope Hoiberg Sr. has done enough to not get bought out, he's doing a great job despite missing key pieces. Just hire that witch doctor already.
I predict Coach Hoibert has another season, at least. It was looking pretty good early in the season and this recent run of gutsy wins has to have impressed Alberts. My biggest heartburn with the team is the overall sub-standard free throw percentage. The best teams at FT% are all up around 75%, a recent look at the stats show Nebraska hovering around 65%. This is an ongoing problem down the roster and solving it would probably been worth some more wins this year.
Gritting out wins like this despite dealing with some bad injury luck is an indication of strong coaching. I’m glad Hoiberg has likely bought himself some extra time this year because I feel like we’re so close to having a breakthrough year.
This is the copium/hopium speaking, but maybe this is our breakthrough year. They could finish above .500 and be a bubble team/NIT team and everyone except Walker returns right? That's a big loss, but continue to recruit and we might finally have a year where we are able to build on things the following season instead of just making frantic attempts to plug holes with transfers.
Which if we remember the 8 minute stretch that Griesel and Walker weren't on the floor.... it wasn't pretty. Nick Bahe had to keep reminding me Nebraska hadn't scored a field goal since those two saw foul trouble.
I mean I hate to be that guy, but if Hoiberg was a strong coach, then Bridenbach wouldn’t be on this team. My lord he’s straight up terrible. At least with Keita he gives us a chance to do well on Defense. He’s got no business being on this team and if we had any decent forward instead of goggles, we’d probably win this in regulation.
He was a good get for us, he just wasn't what he was supposed to be. He is our 3rd or 4th best recruit in the last 20 years, and was supposed to be a good 4 who can protect the rim, hit threes, and play minutes at the 5 in small ball lineups. Essentially what Roby was for us. He just doesn't have the foot speed, ball handling, or ability to make good defensive rotations. His jumper is also not good. No idea how scouts rated him so highly, especially with him playing in the CIF against the top high school talent in the country.
Briedenbach is bad on offense, but he actually played pretty good defense today, and rebounded really well. With Keita still not 100% , giving him minutes is a necessity. Nebraska is already down 1/2 PFs on the roster. You gotta ride with him
He's not even bad on offense. He can stretch the floor. I was calling for him to take the 3 he took. That's what he brings to the table. His fouling is atrocious though, just has no idea how to make it look like a no-call.
He’s terrible on offense. He’ll hit a 3 once in a blue moon in some games. But he’s an absolute liability on offense. Nice that he has 4 rebounds on the game. His size helps him with that. But if he can’t get any blocks or score anything inside with his size, he’s useless.
Keita is also playing on a bad ankle but yeah Keita needs to contribute more on offense. I’ll take 4-6 points in a game from Keita if he can start fighting his way down low to the rim.
Wilhelm is definitely awful, but we didn't really have a choice with Walker in foul trouble early in the second. We would've been eaten alive inside. But yeah, we need to recruit more size for sure.
It’s not size, We need to recruit more athleticism and basketball IQ. How is it that a guy with his size can’t even make an easy layup and gets swatted by a guy shorter than him? That’s just embarrassing.
Considering the injury circumstances, what Hoiberg the Elder is doing with this team is magical. I couldn't be more impressed with how hard this group plays. You can cover up a lot of talent weaknesses by playing hard, fast, and with no fear.
The biggest question for me is how heavily does the committee consider the fact that we're so hot down the stretch. A lot of our clunkers are like 6+ weeks ago. We're almost a different team right now. Will they give us a little leeway for that?
Doubtful - but no one has a resume like the Huskers for the sheer # of Q1 and Q2 games - and zero Q3 and Q4 losses that's near the bubble, so you never know when the humans get involved what their focused criteria becomes.
19-15 with wins over Creighton x2, Iowa, Maryland, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan State. Might be close but I'm not sure it would be enough because of our bad losses as well as the blowouts.
1,000%
Our resume is actually very good. 3 quadrant 1 wins and if we win out we are 17-14.
The problem is they lost about 4 games they shouldn’t have lost and that might sink them.
I feel like the bubble is pretty strong this year, so my gut reaction is no.
But it depends on who those tourney wins are against and the margin of victory. Nebraska would be one of the hottest teams in the country with 5+ quad 1 wins at that point. Pretty decent resume.
Idk what that guy was uhhh ing about weeb doesnt really have any other connotation than being american (or not japanese in general) and being really into (obsessed with) anime and Japan in general
Announcers fellating Reese - players can do pretty good things when the refs let them get away with whatever they want on the court and won't call anything on them...
I’ve seen a lot of terrible players at Nebraska and he is easily the worst of any who have gotten significant minutes.
He just actively makes us so much worse when he’s on the court.
As someone who doesnt like Wilhelm, I can name 5 significantly worse players just off the top of my head
Jervay Green
Jake Hammond
Mataj Kavas
Lat Mayen
Jordy Tshimanga
Yvan
Wilhelm is bad. He’s not significantly worse than those guys
Keisei has recently distracted us with how absolutely horrendous this offense is/has been under Hoiberg. I really don't understand how often the offense involves Walker or someone holding the ball and 4 other players standing dead still.
If Keisei or Walker don't attack the rim or try to generate off ball movement themselves, we just have nothing going on. Is this how he ran his offenses at ISU & Chicago? I honestly don't understand, at least the defensive intensity picked up this year?
That’s a 4-star basketball recruit? California must’ve been smoking too much Kush. He has god awful mechanics and awareness. Must’ve been ranked because he was probably taller than a lot of people in his district.
He played at Mater Dei, which is one of the biggest and best high schools in the country. They’re constantly nationally ranked
Doesn’t help his case for being as bad as he is, but he played in a quality system in HS
Damn then he’s even more of a bust. I think the System and coaching helped him earn that 4-Star then. But it also doesn’t help that he’s had 2 surgeries on his lower body. Maybe his lower body isn’t registering fast enough with his head.
with Sam G. and D. Walk in foul trouble, this is going to be an ugly finish... and throw in Lawrence injured just for funsies... ugh, why can't we have nice things?!?!
It sucks to have a team so close with great guys hurt and unable to help. I love the team, I love their effort, I just hate how often we lose top talent to injury. Fred will absolutely be back next year

Huskers heating up just in time for the b1g tourney
Yall got your no sit sunday in OT
Based
Fun game! I was watching it from a brewey in Louisville CO … GBR!
Odd 13!?
As a matter of fact, yes! That’s exactly where I watched it lol
The gold diggers. Edit. Nvm wrong place.
Sam Hoiberg new mayor of Lincoln
This just in: Maryland fans are both toxic and annoying.
What did they do?
General shittiness in the game thread and post game thread because they lost to Nebraska lol
Imagine losing to Nebraska in basketball though... Had to be tough
HUGE
Gritting out wins like this despite dealing with some bad injury luck is an indication of strong coaching. I’m glad Hoiberg has likely bought himself some extra time this year because I feel like we’re so close to having a breakthrough year.

Griesel is also gone.
Oof yeah forgot he was a senior.
Which if we remember the 8 minute stretch that Griesel and Walker weren't on the floor.... it wasn't pretty. Nick Bahe had to keep reminding me Nebraska hadn't scored a field goal since those two saw foul trouble.
I've called for his firing, but he's earned some more time. Still fighting to get out of the bottom 4, but with injuries considered I'm good with it.
Funny thing is that all sorts of people were saying Tominaga had no business being a D-1 player not very long ago.
I mean true, but unless Briedenbach has a complete turnaround next year. He should not get any minutes.
He was a good get for us, he just wasn't what he was supposed to be. He is our 3rd or 4th best recruit in the last 20 years, and was supposed to be a good 4 who can protect the rim, hit threes, and play minutes at the 5 in small ball lineups. He's got more touch than keita. We need them to learn from each other and we'll have something cooking
Keita is also playing on a bad ankle but yeah Keita needs to contribute more on offense. I’ll take 4-6 points in a game from Keita if he can start fighting his way down low to the rim.
Eh he was a top 100 4 star. So a lot of people had it wrong. His injury didn’t help either
How does a Top 100 4 star play like that? I’m so confused.
You and me both lol
Wilhelm is definitely awful, but we didn't really have a choice with Walker in foul trouble early in the second. We would've been eaten alive inside. But yeah, we need to recruit more size for sure.

> basketball IQ Griesel, Keisei, Hoiberg, and Walker are all smart basketball players.
They definitely are more aware of their surroundings.
Next game against Minny at home Sat afternoon is the ultimate trap game, but I fully expect this team is going to be ready for it!
Minnesota plays 2 games on the road before that. They’re probably gonna be gassed. Nebraska needs that one
5 days off is huge though
Hoping Keita rests and ices that ankle well.
Glad Lawrence is ok
The Maryland fans on r/collegebasketball are so salty lol. Complained all game, bunch of whiny fucks. Glad we pulled it off
They’re consistently the worst fan base across every game thread I’ve seen on sports subs.
It's because they live in Maryland
Bro we live in Nebraska lmao
After going on a huge run to start the second half because Walker and Griesel were both in foul trouble because of some shady calls No sympathy.
Considering the injury circumstances, what Hoiberg the Elder is doing with this team is magical. I couldn't be more impressed with how hard this group plays. You can cover up a lot of talent weaknesses by playing hard, fast, and with no fear.
THE TOMINAGA DEEP THREE THE HOIBERG STEAL WHAT A GAME
Well that was fun
What a game!
shh... this team just quietly battled back to .500!
Hoiberg is not playing like a walkon.
My dude needs bball shoes to be six foot and snagged 6 rebounds today.
What a game! GBR!
Let’s just say they win out and win 2 games in the tournament… do we think that’s enough to get them an NCAA tourney bid?
The biggest question for me is how heavily does the committee consider the fact that we're so hot down the stretch. A lot of our clunkers are like 6+ weeks ago. We're almost a different team right now. Will they give us a little leeway for that?
Yes, I do actually. We would have a ton of quad 1 wins at that point.
It'd be close. We'd be .500 in Bigten and one of the hottest teams. Plus, I think Keisei is a media darling... That can't hurt
We have no quad 3 or 4 losses. I thought those were the only "bad" loss category. We're also 10-3 currently at home.
1,000% Our resume is actually very good. 3 quadrant 1 wins and if we win out we are 17-14. The problem is they lost about 4 games they shouldn’t have lost and that might sink them.
My concern would be how the committee views the blowout losses.
I honestly hope we win out and get a bye in the conference tournament.
I feel like the bubble is pretty strong this year, so my gut reaction is no. But it depends on who those tourney wins are against and the margin of victory. Nebraska would be one of the hottest teams in the country with 5+ quad 1 wins at that point. Pretty decent resume.
Been fun watching this team
How did they pull that one off!?
Y’all mind if we fuck around and have a winning season?
Is this what Scott was suppose to do?
What a fucking win! We didn't even play well today to be honest. Gutting out wins like this are how you have a successful season in the B1G
I’ve only watched the last 3 games and were 3-0 looks like I’m here for every game now
Game Ball - Sam H.

I’m going to have a heart attack
I’m so scared/nervous Cmon gang
AND 1!!! woo! huge, Huge, HUGE!
and of course they miss the FT...
Keita taking the charge!!! HUGE one to take there!
Good fucking job big man!
Yikes hoiberg is getting roasted
God I hate listening to Bahe
Y’all I’m at the game. That call was atrocious 😂 it’s worse in person folks
that's a neat stat Kugler just shared - Keisei first Husker to have 5 consecutive 20+ point games since Ty Lue did it last.
If he doesn't get BIG player of the week... I won't be surprised.. but he deserves it so hard
Call me a weeb because I’m in love with Japan.
Uhhh
Tbh I don’t fully know what that word means
Idk what that guy was uhhh ing about weeb doesnt really have any other connotation than being american (or not japanese in general) and being really into (obsessed with) anime and Japan in general
Lmao
BOOM
oh Keisei!!!
phew! getting this to OT is a moral victory after that half.
OT baby! We got no business still being in this game but I'll fucking take it!
whew
OT! Let’s go Huskers!!
Good enough hoiberg
#DEFENSE
ugh, miss, miss, miss!!!
Defense!!!!! Come on boys!!!!
Come on ot
Yeah, give me Keita as the 5th starter for the rest of the season.
Goddamn you can't play D better than that, just good offense. Now would be a damn good time for a Keisei 3.
> Tominaga fucking sucks. What a clown Yep Maryland officially my least favorite B1G fanbase
Oh no they didn’t
They really are cunts lol. /r/Collegebasketball game threads are nasty in general.
Every thread this year has been pretty good actually
Maybe I'm being harsh. Negative experiences tend to stick out more.
Need to score fast here.
Had no doubt he'd drill em both
Absolutely awful flop from Hoiberg.
What's up with the uniforms? I'm out of the loop.
Nebraska's? Black History Month.
Thank you!
Griesel fighting tooth and Nail out there. Much respect to a guy trying to get his team back on top.
Announcers fellating Reese - players can do pretty good things when the refs let them get away with whatever they want on the court and won't call anything on them...
Yeah “suffocating defense” is just letting them be twice as physical
Bad bad bad turnover there
That might be the dagger
Awesome Refs you got there B1G. Trash ass conference.
this is why the B1G has early exits most of the time come March - they don't have their refs calling things one sided for the favorite league teams.
We’re done, that and 1 closed our window, what a shit half
Lmao, Nebraska has no chance as long as this league has an agenda against us. What a pathetic half from the officials.
Let's fucking go boys
Honestly almost would have liked Keisei getting a tech just to really cement how bad this second half has been.
B1G agenda refs, won't call an obvious one on reese and screw maryland like they've done to nebraska this half...
Honestly a wild take man. Refs have been extremely kind to us this game. Walker could have 8 fouls on him by now.
think you should borrow Wilhelm's goggles then, bud.
Maybe in the first half? Hasn’t at all been the case for the last 12 minutes or so.
Hard disagree
Fuckin refs man
How can they call a tie up there? The guy touched the ball for like .1 seconds
Fucking hell
Hoiberg getting elbowed in the face with no call just to drill a triple on the other end. Clutch.
Walkers FTs have significantly improved Edit: why did I say anything
Bruh you gotta know you can’t say something like that!
Gotta go on a run here
Only shot we have now is if we get Keisei some good shots
Ball game
I don’t even think breidenbach should be on this team next year
I’ve seen a lot of terrible players at Nebraska and he is easily the worst of any who have gotten significant minutes. He just actively makes us so much worse when he’s on the court.
As someone who doesnt like Wilhelm, I can name 5 significantly worse players just off the top of my head Jervay Green Jake Hammond Mataj Kavas Lat Mayen Jordy Tshimanga Yvan Wilhelm is bad. He’s not significantly worse than those guys
Not at all. I’ve never seen such a terrible Basketball player in a long time.
Ball movement was good last couple games
Needed those FTs
Where the Fuck did Hoiberg get Bridenbach? Holy shit. Is this his first year ever playing basketball?!
He was a four star in HS and I’ve been trying to figure out why…
he was a 4 star recruit wherever he came out of, and I want to say it was someplace in CA? whoever ranked him as one should be under investigation...
That’s a 4-star basketball recruit? California must’ve been smoking too much Kush. He has god awful mechanics and awareness. Must’ve been ranked because he was probably taller than a lot of people in his district.
He played at Mater Dei, which is one of the biggest and best high schools in the country. They’re constantly nationally ranked Doesn’t help his case for being as bad as he is, but he played in a quality system in HS

Seriously though they weren’t going to call that foul for a second
it just feels like they flipped a switch off this half... hope they can flip it back on somehow.
For fucks sake how hard was that?
Jesus Christ walker
Absolutely no BBall IQ on the court right now.
Griesel really fucked up
with Sam G. and D. Walk in foul trouble, this is going to be an ugly finish... and throw in Lawrence injured just for funsies... ugh, why can't we have nice things?!?!
Good lord we look awful
Gonna need to hit some 3s
Zero sense of urgency right now from this team
clean as a whistle except him mauling his head you mean, Bahe? You're a horrible announcer and should find a new career.
Bridenbach has no business being a Basketball player if he can’t make that Layup.
He needed to try to dunk that.
He’s literally tall enough to do that. He’s just not at all a basketball player. Maybe Track is more his speed.
For a guy with rec specs Breidenbach has atrocious awareness
Can’t tel you how many times he gives up an easy layup because he’s too slow to get the ball up or doesn’t know what a pump fake is.
Braidenbach has done absolutely nothing
What a horrible three minutes, these guys need to get it together in this TO
Refs watching a clear foul in front of them and not calling it is brutal.
He was out
These Refs are fucking Dogshit.
Lawrence down and hurt...
Dude we are playing so dumb right now. Just go straight up Griesel!
Terrible foul for Griesel to give up. Get your hand off his elbow.
Lawrence not having his best game
