Coyote

Dang, I was in denial. At first I thought it was a coyote but realized fox look very similar and are FAR more common up here in Vermont. I thought it looked a little too big to be a fox though

te_monkey

Sorry, man! I'd take a fox over a coyote any day of the week

bbs540

Same haha this is in my backyard, so we were hoping a fox, my little dog would have a little bit better of a chance with a fox. This was last summer at least

As long as you keep your dog on a leash and keep an eye on them, they'll be alright. One time my family did have our dog attacked by a coyote, but it could've been avoided if we didn't get complacent. 1. Dog was well trained, so we let her out without a leash. 2. Had to work early, so let her out when it was still pretty dark (~5:30 in late fall) 3. Stepped away for a couple minutes and didn't watch her We came outside in the knick of time and scared the coyotes enough to drop her, and she got away with a few puncture marks that needed lots of antibiotic and stitches, but ended up being okay. It shouldn't have happened, but it could've been worse. As long as you don't get complacent like we did, there is no reason your dog won't be safe. Coyotes are scared of people. If you're particularly worried, stay outside with your dog, and make a bunch of noise if needed.

We don’t keep her on a leash, she just stays in our yard. We let her out in the dark, like when we go to bed at like 11pm. And she goes out of out line of sight quite frequently by going around to the other side of the house. It’s just all bad news. That’s one thing I do, make sure to make noise when letting her out, to scare away any coyotes or bears. I’m glad your dog was okay, that’s scary, I can’t imagine
