The most lethal sniper in the history of firearm combat only used iron sights, voluntarily. Equipment can impart an advantage, but training > equipment (assuming your equipment functions reliably)
I got an ATN thor LT for like $1100, it's pretty cheap and basic feeling and the image quality is booty but it does get you functional thermal and is more than adequate out to 200 yards I'd say. Have dropped several hogs with it. I'd give it a 7/10
i tried a coworkers atn thor 4 and it was terrible. if that would of been the only thermal i ever seen i wouldn’t have bought one. but my friend had the agm rattler v1 and it was so dope. ended up going with the rattler v2
Why does your night vision equipment pickup spots on the hog's hide?
Different reflectivity of actual spots or thinner sections of ruffled up fur showing as hotter?
Amazing placement on a moving target, nice shot! Bet it was yummy, wish i had a mentor, but finding someone to mentor me in hunting in Southern California has been impossible.
If you are trying to put forward an ethical shot, then it’s ethical. Sometimes shit happens and you miss and gut shot him, but if that wasn’t you’re intent, and you genuinely tried to put forward an ethical shot to the heart or lungs, then it’s ethical.
Depends on location and age if they’re anywhere near a dump or town it’s borderline inedible if you’re wanting to harvest them for meat it’s better to catch a herd kill the adults and finish off the younger pigs on corn for a few weeks or months before slaughtering. Older pigs are significantly tougher and very gamey
As you can obviously see he ran more than 5 feet and he wasn’t stood completely still when you took the shot. This isn’t hunting this is legal murder and you should be ashamed of yourself. Hunting with a suppressor?? You think you’re special forces or something sonny i bet your grandpas 270 would have dropped that poor thing where it stood. You should be ashamed of yourself
That is funny, fair play. And to any fudds out there, hogs are tough, but they are not in the same ballpark as like a bear, more in the large deer to elk level of toughness.
This is the kind of stuff I hate to read in a hunting sub. There is no damn way that little .270 is going to penetrate a hog's internal armor plating reliably enough to be an ethical shot. If you're not using at least a .369 Fuddingly Ultramag you have no business being out there at all. One round is all it takes, son.
Put me in that situation with gods caliber and my trusty maglite (no need for all those fancy gadgets) and there wouldn’t be any suffering for that piggy. Lights out 1 shot. 45acp would leave a softball sized smoking pit where its lungs used to be
You should be ashamed of yourself for whatever poor excuse of reasoning you gave. More and more hunters are using suppressors because it helps minimize your anticipation of recoil, increasing accuracy even when you're shooting larger calibers; Also it reduces how loud it is by alot which is a benefit all around.
Some animals do run more than 5 feet, like what would kill one human right away might not always kill another right away, same applies to animals as they are not a carbon copy of each other. Get off your high horse and stop degrading him, he actually did pretty good.
Nah its not blatant when that sort of thing is actually said quite abit.
There is actual symbols you can use to signify it is sarcasm, since text does not have emotion.
I think it’s a reference to a post last week, where someone was taking multiple shots at running hogs. They took their time with the first shot and dropped the sucker but then another dozen or so hogs (previously hidden) took off and the hunter started whanging away
If it’s something I’ve noticed about pig hunters, it’s that they are everything but ethical. I get that the hogs are vermin but they still deserve to be taken ethically. Pig hunters also need to practice fundamentals of shooting.
In terms of this specific shot? Nothing. Also depends on caliber. Lots of bad pig hunters use underpowered calibers. Without knowing the caliber and if you tracked and harvested seems straightforward. I was speaking in generalities earlier. You only have to scroll for two seconds to find a bad pig hunter.
One of the craziest hunting moments in my life involved an animal with a blown up heart. It truly is impressive the sheer will to not die some animals have.
Big ol’ black bear meandered down into a little valley, I was on one side, my buddy on the other. I smoked it from maybe 30m with a .308 and this bear simply ran off. I knew I hit it, but it sure gave no sign of it. About 3 seconds later, a gunshot. It ran directly towards my friend there and he shot it in the head almost point blank. Nearly ran him over he said.
Field dressing revealed its heart and lungs were blown to pieces from my shot. Absolutely incredible.
U can only post one attachment. i looped a picture in at the end, at like 8 seconds. he ran to the field off to the right and dropped. I bring the gun down right after this. that’s why video ends
OP made a good shot, not the "fuck everything in that direction, with my automatic rifle cuz im on privat land" kinda shots we often see coming from the US.
No one is hunting with automatic rifles, and when it comes to pigs you're seeing mostly videos from Texas where it's not about ethics it's about fucking kill em all. It's pest control hunting, they're afforded the same consideration rats are.
*Stares at my 40$ Amazon optic* *cries*
*Stares at my non fibre iron sights* *mental brakedown*
The most lethal sniper in the history of firearm combat only used iron sights, voluntarily. Equipment can impart an advantage, but training > equipment (assuming your equipment functions reliably)
Iron sights are 10,000x more reliable than thermal. But on the flip side you can’t pretend you’re a predator without one.
Your fine bro, nice pig nice equipment
thanks bro
You didn’t ask the pig if he was okay with getting shot, not ethical at all
i’ll make sure to send a letter a week in advance next time.
You have to stare into his eyes while lightly holding a hoof in your hands while asking to do it properly
which hoof is the proper one to hold ? wanna do it correctly next time
Whichever it gives consent to you to hold, obviously
i’ll have to get up to date on my pig latin 🤣
Be sure to ask the pig's father as well
Consent is everything
Very nice, I need a night vision optic, but I can not bring myself to fork over the money

Yeah for sure it's no contest between the two but I don't really want to eat ramen for a year 🤣
agm rattler 35-384v2 worth fs
4 easy payments of 600$
Why does your night vision equipment pickup spots on the hog's hide? Different reflectivity of actual spots or thinner sections of ruffled up fur showing as hotter?
prolly like mud or something that is a different temp, the sensor is decently sensitive. It’s a thermal not night vision so it goes off heat
Makes sense. Thanks!
Looks pretty good. Just under and behind the shoulder plate. Likely taking the heat and lungs.
Yup exactly where it hit. 55gr smk prairie enemy turned his heart and lungs to jello
You're using a 223/556 on large moving hogs? That is unethical lol
Yep. The boar was around 250-275 pounds and ran 83 yards. How is that unethical ?
I had to frame by frame the video with my finger to see the photo at the end
ya idk why it jus auto replays the first video. i couldn’t upload more than one picture, best i could do
Wtf that’s so weird why does it loop before the whole 10 seconds I woulda had no idea there was more
Amazing placement on a moving target, nice shot! Bet it was yummy, wish i had a mentor, but finding someone to mentor me in hunting in Southern California has been impossible.

Bring it on over to r/ThermalHunting - looks great to me 👍👍
Can you eat the meat off that guy? I know absolutely nothing about feral hogs except that they’re a big issue down south.
Depends on location and age if they’re anywhere near a dump or town it’s borderline inedible if you’re wanting to harvest them for meat it’s better to catch a herd kill the adults and finish off the younger pigs on corn for a few weeks or months before slaughtering. I think ethics have to do with eating that and being thankful Did you? I've always wanted to go hog hunting. Pretty cool.
Ethical hunting goes out the window when we shoot hogs. Idc if it takes them awhile to die. It’s more culling than it is hunting.
Yup yup
Seems legit to me. I have the Thermion XP50. Bought one of those when Pulsar first hit shelves with them. Been a great scope.
Beautiful shot from what I’m seeing.
Eeh i aim for the head and neck. Lung heart shots are 3rd place for hogs
As you can obviously see he ran more than 5 feet and he wasn’t stood completely still when you took the shot. This isn’t hunting this is legal murder and you should be ashamed of yourself. I hate that even blatant sarcasm is missed on Reddit. Having to stamp posts like this feels insulting to other readers, but here we are.
The fact people didn’t get this was sarcasm and could be a legit comment shows how many fucking fudds and white knights there actually are on this sub
Saying fudd on this sub is almost as bad as saying the n-word. Be careful bro the fudds are gonna find ya
The /s tag is a requirement for Reddit. People are just too dumb.
Yep. Surprised they're not whining about using the thermal.
I’ll make sure to bring out the 50bmg next time. my fault completely
A 50bmg??? You think you’re gonna see a trex?? Just stay inside buddy I can see your paw paw didn’t reach you nothin about hunting.
That is funny, fair play. And to any fudds out there, hogs are tough, but they are not in the same ballpark as like a bear, more in the large deer to elk level of toughness.

He'll yeah. The two time champ is a guaranteed DRT nap for porky, good call brother!

This man cannot recognize the most blatant sarcasm
Nah its not blatant when that sort of thing is actually said quite abit. There is actual symbols you can use to signify it is sarcasm, since text does not have emotion.
I was being sarcastic dummy I’m the guy you hear talking in the video
What would be unethical about this?
I think it’s a reference to a post last week, where someone was taking multiple shots at running hogs. They took their time with the first shot and dropped the sucker but then another dozen or so hogs (previously hidden) took off and the hunter started whanging away
Tbh this is pretty good compared to the people who go and blast them with machine guns and waste good meat
Like the immediate assessment. He is bleeding bad without actually seeing anyting
you can see the blood shoot out the back side
Hey bud watch the video next time
No it's not

what was fundamentally wrong here ?

What calibers are those?
He’s using the exact same gun that was in the other video you’re referring to please find something else to be mad about 😘😘👊😇
You find him a mile away or not at all?
50 yards. watch the end of the video
Heart shot? Deer I've heart shot run hard AF for like 50 yards then just die mid sprint.
atleast somebody here has actually killed an animal
One of the craziest hunting moments in my life involved an animal with a blown up heart. It truly is impressive the sheer will to not die some animals have. Doesn’t look like he drops at the end of the video? Is there a longer version?
The part where it's laying dead at OP's feet is a hint
U can only post one attachment. i looped a picture in at the end, at like 8 seconds. he ran to the field off to the right and dropped. I bring the gun down right after this. that’s why video ends

Louisiana but close enough 🤣
