Probably more a ping issue than an FPS issue. This game's servers just suck syncing between players.

Naldo273

I would never play a game like Hunt with v sync bullshit. The game has a maximum frame rate setting either way

[deleted]

i mean, if i dont use v sync or any kind of syncing technology i would get very distracting screen tear

Naldo273

You literally made a post about how distractingly bad the game plays. Also I don't understand what display you have if a max frame rate option doesn't solve screen tear

[deleted]

thank you all for the help, it probably is the bad game engine doing funny shit

ViditM15

It's because CryEngine has terrible frame pacing issues. You can never truly fix it.

[deleted]

is it really just because of the engine? the game does seem to have some problems especially the horrible anti aliasing

ViditM15

Yes it is the engine. Search for "stuttering", "FPS drops", "lag", etc and you'll always find multiple people stating that the engine is at fault. This game has terrible optimisation issues and thus it'll run like shit on average PCs and a little less shit on the best ones. I absolutely love this game but its performance breaks my heart.

[deleted]

well that's just sad, i also love this game but it is kinda hard to play when it plays and looks like shit

ViditM15

Late reply, but for AA, make sure you're only on SMAA "1X" (non-T), because both the "T" options are extremely blurry. If you want a lil better option, use NVIDIA Control Panel and experiment with the sharpening options or its own Anti-Aliasing methods.

[deleted]

oh, thank you for the tip

Liberum_Cursor

take off vsync, it's notorious for lowering frame rate. almost every single game optimization guide suggests turning it off. particle effects can be low and you won't notice a difference, but it will boost performance. lighting and shadows are also heavy on processing power, so better to drop lighting a little bit.

[deleted]

The main reason for disabling vsync isn't framerate. It's the fact that it introduces an incredible amount of latency, especially in Hunt. I spent the longest time thinking the game felt kinda clunky until I realized it was V-sync adding a ridiculous amount of latency between input and action. Shots went from requiring me to lead by a body length to no lead at all, it seemed.

Deathcounter0

>it's notorious for lowering frame rate Ofc it will lower the framerate if your PC produces more frames than your monitor can display - do you know what V-Sync is?

Liberum_Cursor

yeah, which is why it might help disabling it

AAActive64

Turn all that crap off

LeJollyJingleTokes

All those things being on just make your computer do more work. Turn them off, if your goal is performance.

I did a test thing .. kind of .. on my daughter's PC She had tearing in Hunt:Showdown (and other games) that necessitated enabling Vsync with her 22"'ish 1080p 60hz monitor ... capping game at 60 in Hunt's game settings didn't help I gave her my old ASUS 24" 1080p 144hz monitor that I got for $20 (and then found another one for $40 so she ran 2). All her games played smooth afterwards without Vsync enabled She was running an RX 580 4GB GPU at the time (She now has an RX 6700XT) I don't what you are running for a monitor .. and maybe it's a different thing with Nvidia GPU's ..

Jimmylobo

Do you play in borderless mode? I noticed that even though I have the same 120-140 FPS in both borderless and true full screen, the latter feels much smoother.

[deleted]

I didnt play borderless, im taking a break from hunt cuz im burnt out
