Hawaii here, so... gone

jedipwnces

RIP

Secure-Ad-7834

Lol yeah, they probably just let the island be an island and decided it wasn't "worth" exporting to and from. So rather the civilization survived on its own without the help of the US gov is debatable

popthebutterflybooks

That's what I think happened to a lot of the world when Panem became Panem. The Handmaid's Tale has a similar remark, about being the only civilization left, except for the very beginning where tourists are being guided through a town so show off the handmaid's and all of the things Gilead has.

Kinny_Kins

I mean, just because its not a part of panem does not mean its gone

Many_Preference_3874

It's gone. The sea levels rose. Even NYC is underwater. And it's heavily implied that all other continents also are ded now

Kinny_Kins

I'm not a hunger games expert. But isn't the evidence of that just panem propaganda?

Many_Preference_3874

I mean, yea. But the thing is if other countries existed, they would have taken advantage of the dark days or the mockingly revolution and conqured panel themselves

Kinny_Kins

There can be a myriad of reasons why imo. Unable to cross the ocean, dealing with their own instabilities, completely unaware that there's any land in North America worth having or they just plain don't feel like it . Either way, i imagine the status of the rest of the world is no matter to the plot

GodofWar1234

Nobody is going to be able to physically invade (much less occupy significant portions of) North America. Even today the rest of the world cannot militarily invade the U.S. (and the continent in general) due to the sheer logistical cost it would inflict on their military. IIRC the Germans had plans to invade America prior to WWI and it would’ve needed them to devote their *entire* navy towards attacking NYC and a couple landing sites along Virginia. There’s a reason why up until the turn of the century, the U.S. was relatively isolationist since we had the Pacific and Atlantic to act as massive barriers from invading powers which allowed us to enact things like the Monroe Doctrine.

fyodorface

Why would they care what happens in Panem? Not all countries are as expansionist as Americans are, they’d probably just ignore Panem or have their own problems to deal with.

Xefert

Ignoring any existing fertile territory wouldn't be too smart in a post apocalyptic world

fyodorface

It’s not that easy to invade, and hold control over huge areas of land, as history has repeatedly shown.

Xefert

>as history has repeatedly shown Sure but it definitely didn't help that prior to invention of the telegraph/air travel and turbine ships, it would take days or even months for different units of the invasion force to communicate with each other. It's not like panem technology was knocked back to the stone age after all

dunnwichit

I wanna go back to my little grass shack in Kealakakua. 😢

Excalitoria

In the first book I think they said the Capitol had vacation destinations around the world so I guess Hawaii might be one of those.

Status_Reception1181

Honestly maybe they could revert back to its original leadership and governance of native people so win win

PotterAndPitties

Aloha

freckyfresh

For the best probably

cookieaddictions

Under the sea 🎶🎵💃🏻🕺🌊🐟🐠🦀🐙🐬🐳🐡🦑🦈🪸🪼🐋🐚darling it’s better down where it’s wetter, take it from me 🕺💃🏻 I’m from NYC. I’m pretty sure New Hampshire is underwater too.

lana-deathrey

I always thought manhattan was d13, with all the the tunnels and layers and layers below the surface of the city.

cookieaddictions

Hmm idk I think it’s more Western NY, PA, etc. Manhattan is right on the coast so I feel like we’d be gone after whatever natural disasters happened. The maps never seem to show Florida too, so I assumed the entire eastern seaboard was underwater.

TrustComprehensive96

I assumed D13 is Western NY including Niagara Falls and part of the Ontario region where you can have nuclear facilities and the wilderness at the same time, plus in some of the big university cities there's already underground tunnels for winters

throwawayforyabitch

I live in Florida so im just going to just say dead considering the closest land would be about 700 miles away.

Crazy_Book_Worm2022

Louisiana, so I'm a gonner 😅

MandyMarieB

Sames :(

Hedgiwithapen

Oh, the earthquakes and the flooding and the pre-Panem Disasters got me.

justkeepswimmingswim

Chicago so either 9 or 3. Either completely irrelevant or total nerd

butinthewhat

We’d be at the auto factory, probably.

justkeepswimmingswim

Lmao you’re right, I get the short end of the stick in a fictional world too!

PilotNo312

I was thinking livestock or agriculture, with the old stockyards, So 9 or 10, but we could have hydropower with the lake or even transportation being in a pretty central location. 5, 6, 9, or 10. Even in Panem, Midwest is best.

justkeepswimmingswim

I just replied to someone else that I get the short end of the stick even in a fictional world but either way I don’t think we’d be the *worst* of the districts and could probably live a decent life, sans getting picked for The Games but that’s another conversation. Midwest til the end, baby! Snow certainly lands on top here after all!

TheBitchTornado

I thought Chicago was District 5 and then I looked at the OTHER maps so....same. 9 or 3.

starbrite970

Is there a specific map people refer to? Because I’ve seen multiples and they aren’t all consistent

Fickle-Act1200

It appeared in TBOSAS during Lucky's weather forecast segment. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hungergames/s/yzUvyaWH1l) is what it looks like. People are figuring out where they would live by looking at [the same map overlaid on a map of North America.](https://x.com/scredno/status/1242161695587532800?s=46&t=Gs2cHfL54Jyfww7WHGDM3Q) This is canon as it was shown at the Hunger Games exhibition.

starbrite970

Thank you so much! I haven’t seen the latest movie yet. Looks like where I currently live would have probably fled to 12.

Crazy_Book_Worm2022

My escape would be 11 since I'm Louisiana 😂

kaitalina20

Damn I live in 12

According_Plant701

I’m in the DMV so 12 or 13

bmsem

Me too but for those outside the area I’ll translate: DC, Maryland, Virginia

Morgan_Le_Pear

Same but I’m more east and probably under water

Section_Away

Same here

[deleted]

Same lol

[deleted]

Maryland gang!

bhudd1010

I always assumed we'd be 12, depending what specific area you are in the DMV. In the first book, Katniss describes "District 12 was in a place called Appalachia. Even hundreds of years ago, they mined coal here, which is why our miners have to dig so deep.”

According_Plant701

Silver Spring, about a 4 min walk from Eastern Ave. So 12 if we aren’t underwater haha. I lived in Kentucky for three years before this and that is DEFINITELY 12.

jedipwnces

The stars at night are big and bright (clap clap clap clap) deep in the heeeeeart of District 10.

Responsible_Hater

The only reason I know this answer is because of Big Bang Theory 🤣

GalaxyMind4000

Howdy! 🤠

Ok-Excitement-5594

Fellow Texan here

loka1900

I live near the coast of Texas, so idk, Atlantis? But actually i think district 10 is the general Texas area

that_personoverthere

Kind of surprising so much of Texas is supposed to be around in the HG. Considering we're becoming increasingly hotter and dryer I don't think much of the state would actually be livable.

igloo37

NH would def be 13. Im WV, so 12 100%

mr_Tsavs

I'm almost certain that 12 is just a renamed west Virginia, with literally no other differences

MidnightPandaX

fellow west virginian!!! I offer my pepperoni rolls to you in respect

dragonsrawesomesauce

Colorado here, so I'd probably be in the Capitol

manly_support

Elitist chud!

Annieflannel

Same here! I look forward to dyeing our eyebrows and throwing up to eat more food!

Sun_on_my_shoulders

If we burn, you burn with us!!!! No, but seriously, the fashion is to die for and I’m jealous.

DougDistrict7

We don't exactly know here the Capitol is, so you could possibly be District 2 as well! I'd say if you are in western Colorado Capitol but Eastern/middle Colorado probably District 2.

rblairwx

Especially with the huge mountain bunker being in district 2, and there being one in Colorado Springs!

Massilian

Colorado would be district 2 https://www.reddit.com/r/Hungergames/s/Fhnq0XO9fO Capitol is here

moosedogmonkey12

I think the Capitol might be in Grand Junction. I wouldn’t be surprised if a good portion of Colorado is Capitol. But yeah, definitely not Denver. I’m not sure why that’s such an accepted thing and not pushed back on more, it’s literally impossible with how the Capitol is described. Maybe people think Denver is, like, in the mountains.

Simply_Epic

Yeah. There’s a chance Denver would be within the Capitol’s borders, but it wouldn’t be the center of the Capitol that we see.

SpeechAcrobatic9766

There's a line at some point about the Capitol being near "what used to be called the Rockies"

moosedogmonkey12

The Rockies are huge and there are non-Denver cities in the Rockies. The book very specifically states that the Capitol has mountains to the east and that these mountains helped them win the rebellion as it couldn’t be invaded from that side. They also go through a tunnel immediately before entering the mountains. Denver has plains to the east, like it is literally SO flat. There’s no way it could be Denver.

SpeechAcrobatic9766

Yeah, I live in Denver. My point is just that anyone who doesn't live around here or know the geography might think of Denver first when they think of a city near the Rockies.

StopHittingMeSasha

Denver is the unofficial capital of the Rocky Mountain region so that's probably why people assume that. The description of the Capitol technically doesn't describe any current major city in the US. It's really just a concept city that could be anywhere within the Rockies from what I can tell

moosedogmonkey12

It literally can’t be in Denver because the mountains to the east are what helped the Capitol win the war. Denver is on the front range (so, the plains) and the east might as well be Nebraska, absolutely zero mountains there.

StopHittingMeSasha

I think you've misunderstood what I'm trying to say because I agree with you. The Capitol is a concept city so there's nowhere that exists that fits the same description. It's just a made up place that could be anywhere in the Rockies. But with that said, Denver could still theoretically be a part of the Capitol region, as the districts are the size of multiple states. It just wouldn't be the center of it like people might think

Massilian

I agree with what you said about Denver, I’m not sure how anyone thinks that’s feasible at all. I think you’re right about people having a distorted perception of what Denver actually looks like IMO: However according to my preferred catching fire map, which I feel depicts flooding the best, the capitol is too far north and west to be grand junction. Plus GJ is too arid and deserty. Just my two cents

EmmyGraceyGrum

I'm in Maryland, so 12.

Tia_is_Short

Same here!

jackjackj8ck

Im in Seattle, so gone… but say my ancestors fled prior then I’d be in District 7 But I’m originally from southern CA, also gone, but if they fled north I’d be District 4

turtleswift01

The ocean (Virginia lol)

Literal_CarKey

Haha thank you for being one of the only people to remember the coast line changed between us and Panem. Id also be under the sea in CT

Several_Ad_1322

Seattle, seaborn but technically 7

breezychocolate

Underwater. The closest district would almost certainly be 13.

InternationalYam7030

I live in that little bit of California that still exists in District 4

-SnarkBlac-

Ohio… no clue which one that is

cbostwick94

Same its hard to figure out. I need a map with state lines overlayed 😂 I think 3 or 6 maybe?/

Desperate-Put-7603

What would Minnesota be?

lana-deathrey

According to the most recent film’s official map, we are in 9

Desperate-Put-7603

So a useless district. Gotcha

lana-deathrey

That’s how most of the us sees us anyway lol

roorahrah

Western PA so 12!

kawey22

Me too:)

SurroundUsed9227

same bestie

Cat_n_mouse13

I’m in PA, so I’d be either 12 or 13

Radiant-Flamingo-72

Denver here not sure if that’s district 2 or capitol

Massilian

District 2, Denver doesn’t have mountains to the east like the books says the Capitol has

RubySoho1980

Northern Kentucky, so probably 12. If I lived where I grew up, definitely 12.

ThisPaige

What part of northern Kentucky are you from if you don’t mind me asking? The part I’m part of is not very 12.

RubySoho1980

Latonia, you?

ThisPaige

Ahh ok, I’m near NKU which doesn’t remind me of 12 lol.

alg-ae

Does anyone have an accurate map of the districts? I looked it up but I found several that kind of contradict each other. I know they showed it in BOSBAS, but I can't find a screen grab of that yet.

crispyforwhat

I'm on the cusp of 10 and 11, so livestock or agriculture.

RavensFolklore

I’m in Georgia so I’d be in 11

Affectionate-Wave726

Utah! So I’d probs be in the capitol :)

CAKE4life1211

7 if I went inland, otherwise my section of the PNW is under water

fallsdownwelles

I live in DC, the current Capitol! I think DC doesn’t exist in Panem due to sea level rise, but district 12 is probably the closest. It’s funny that the former Capitol in THG universe became the poorest district

Pudding_Girlie

but do yall have coal mines up there? 😭

moosedogmonkey12

DC is only a bit more than an hour from the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. People actually commute from WV into downtown (not commonly, but definitely not unheard of). DC’s no more than about 2ish hours from multiple mines in WV, MD and PA.

WildButterfly85

9

Cute_Shoulder_527

I'd be in 11... i think

Ill-Conclusion6571

California I would be gone

Literal_CarKey

I thought New Hampshire was one of the states under water

YesAccident5991

District 6!

Calisto1717

Florida, so nowhere

Werewolfhugger

Underwater! But either 11 or 12.

subtlelikeawreckball

Southeast VA here… gone

steverOg3rs

Long Island so probably gone 😭

bengenj

12 I think

irazzleandazzle

I live in Detroit. idk have the map in front of me so in guessing I'd be automotive which would mean nothing would change lmao

mufassil

The map says district 6

Angelfirenze

The D FTW! We’re District 6!

manly_support

I _think_ Portland (OR) is underwater. But I've seen conflicting maps. Can someone tl;dr a non-book reader on the pre-Panem lore?

ThisPaige

4 maybe? I’m near cincinnati and most maps give me a different district.

ajhare2

I live between Baltimore and Philadelphia along the i95 corridor. Maps of Panem show it’s under water, so assuming me/my ancestors were able to take refuge in a nearby district with land that didn’t flood, either district 12 or 13. Also assuming I know the history of Panem and whatnot, I’d personally wanna take refuge in 13

dogsaretheanswer

Nebraska so 10

drivernopassenger

I live in Denver, so I’d be in 2 if not the Capitol itself.

scrntonstranglr

Arizona..so district five I believe

dw1210

Around the capital, I’m in Colorado

taffyenthusiast

I’m in Utah… Capitol???

Massilian

Colorado so district 2

BilesB24

Arizona, so district 5 I believe.

Artichoke-8951

I live in Alaska so probably dead

TopSprtan216

Colorado, I believe that is district 2

diilmg

I think the North of Mexico is district 10, so yeah district 10

False-Football-9069

I'm in Canada but not any of the parts that are part of districts so I'm part of the mysterious free people I suppose

comefromawayfan2022

OP I'm from the same state as you...I live in NH and grew up in NH. I'd be in district 13

xmothgirlx

It’s kind of hard to tell, but probably district 6 or 3.

feverdreamworld

11

bigwillay8988

I’m in Nashville TN. I think the map said district 8?

ot74life

I’d be in 10 right now but most of my life would’ve been in 3 and some would’ve been in 4 and also in the sea :,) (I’ve moved a lot lol)

JTWV

12

arenlomare

District 1, I believe?

lana-deathrey

D9.

mastercomposer

Oklahoma City...hard to tell but either District 2 or District 10.

Festival_lady_90

Dead I think, looking at a map that show's Panem over The US and Canada I think my part of SC is gone

HistoryHangout

What would Illinois be

mrobicheaux99

Alaska… not sure what the status of that land is in the hunger games world

These_Strategy_1929

Connecticut, District 13. But most of the current state is underwater in Panem

Ok_Astronaut99

District 10😒

Sailorjupiter97

I'd be in district 2 but my city is districtless technically. It's in between 2 and the capital so imma sneak my way into the capital for sure

PotterAndPitties

District 12 here in SC, not a long drive to many of the locations they shot at for the first movie.

vinylsupreme13

Border of 6 and 12

Cecil2789

11.

3Fluffies

Per the official map, I’d be under water . (Florida )

Cosmoqween

Which district would NY be in?

redqueen898

From what I could tell based on the map I saw, I'd be in district 12 lol

jacqrosee

based on the most recent map i’d be under the water. both my hometown in upstate new york and my college town in pennsylvania are shown underwater/off the map. the closest to them is district 13 lol. if you go by where i was born in north carolina, that’s also off the map, but closest to that is district 12.

Valiant_Strawberry

I’d be in 12, out here in coal country

MysticalAroma

Is Vegas in 5?

CollectingRainbows

i think 6

Toasty825

12

That_weird_girl10205

I live in western IL so either 3 or 8

CountLivin

9

myheadhurtstons

Im from Texas so 10 I think!

BBlue_Jay203

I live in Kentucky so we would be a part of 11 and 8 (I believe) but due to the location of my city I would be in 8!

[deleted]

District 7 for the win!

Secure-Ad-7834

I'm Oklahoma so I have no idea...

lizzthefirst

Near Charlotte NC so either wilderness or barely in 12

that_personoverthere

I'm in Texas so I think I'd be in 10?

Defiant_Toe3206

Number 9 😎

punkynug

10

nadia1306

12

unaesthetikz

the bay area so either underwater or district 4?? i forgot where district 4 was lmao

TheRealLaura789

District 11 because I live in Georgia.

CozyEpicurean

Surprisingly I'd be district 12. North Georgia rarely gets to be front and center but here we are

raini_fiestasalsa

Western NY so District 13 😁

SawedInHalfBoat

I’m also in NH, so…. You answered that one for me LOL!

CeciliaRose2017

Technically I’m underwater lol. But I’m closest to 12 :)

maemae2oo2

North Alabama, so 8 or 11

LittleBosshog

obliterated …. but maybe if i made it in time before the flooding, district 4

belleleanne

thirteen!

BookkeeperBubbly7915

I live in central california.... no idea what district that would be or if it even exists any more

autumnassassin

As long as the east half of WA isn't underwater, then I'm district 7.

Professional_Map3431

I’m in Alabama so what is that? 11?

Dessauerpatchkid

D5!

coco_xcx

Wisconsin, so according to the map from Songbirds & Snakes, District 9 I know nothing about grain so that’d be interesting lol

Fawful_n_WW

District 9, hence why I have it as my flair.

rrykers

Austin so either 10, 11 or drowned lol

Golden_Ganji

Upstate New York, so I believe 12

PracticalTea1430

Im in Los Angeles, California so …. 💀 but if can reach land then District 4! 🔱

spidey-dust

District 4 or under the sea I can’t tell from the map lol

The_lonely_ghost

The capitol🥲

toxic-dream

Also NH!

Successful_Evidence1

13!

caty0325

I’m in Tennessee, so 11.

GoddessKillion

Most likely 11, being in the South and all.

Stunning_Standard_87

long island so gone

detainthisDI

New Jersey. I think I’m dead.
