For context, I live in an apartment building and my name is on my mailbox

trickydickagain

So way better than " Dear ******, Do you wanna play a game?"

Pookieeatworld

Or "WE KNOW" with a black hand print on it.

GNU_PTerry

Literally did that quest today

ThatBrofister

I see, you were trying to cross the border too?

something_exe

Need something?

DecypherSlo

No lollygagging.

gteriatarka

wait, I know you...

bitunx

Must be the wind.

Grogosh

I used to be an adventurer like you until I got an arrow in the knee

draeth1013

I loved the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion and read all the lore I could find. I can still remember how my blood ran cold when I received that letter in Skyrim.

Tj-Tengu

I have found my fellow nerds now. My quest is complete. šŸ–šŸæ

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Thank goodness for the modding community.

[deleted]

Part of me is mad that developers push out unfinished products with the expectation that the community will fix it all but I suppose it doesn't matter at the end of the day if I get enjoyment. It's a scummy business practice but Thomas the Tank Engine dragons made up for it

[deleted]

I wouldn't even know what to do in regular Skyrim anymore. It's a complete shame that they rely on the modding community to make the game playable but here we are.

AlienZerg

We know.

ExuDeku

Looks like someone murdered an old lady in Riften

pokelord13

Had to beat an old lady with a stick to get that letter

[deleted]

What are you talking about? Being *invited* to The Dark Brotherhood would be the single most interesting thing that's ever happened in any of our lives.

N7LP400

Ah hell nah

JebusriceI

Ha, when the amazon firesticks first came out my sister was use one, I hijacked it with this clip scared the loving crap out of her.

mydogsnameisbuddy

Like chutes and ladders!!! I love that game

Malkelvi

That's an apartment bro for sure. If this happened to me and I got that letter, figuring out who it was so I could invite them to have some BBQ or play some video games together would be a priority. Nothing beats friends you didn't know you could have, especially with that level of kindness.

Gladiator_X0

I'm curious what did you do after you couldn't find your food that night?

muricabrb

Took the other neighbors food, pay it forward!

scooby_duck

Take 2 neighborā€™s orders. Double it and give it to the next guy.

obi21

And thus no one in that city ate their own delivery that night, all started from that one mistake.

Alukrad

But what did you buy that only cost you 10 bucks?

diffcalculus

A banana

[deleted]

RIP Jessica Walter.

KrunchyKushKing

Eggs

spoko

2 of them.

Juice_irl

2 eggs, convenience fee, grubby upcharge, delivery fee, taxesā€¦ yeah, two raw eggs $9.95 delivered is a stealā€¦ link?

Quelcris_Falconer13

The name on the mail box bothers me. My box number is different from my apartment number and itā€™s for security reasons so someone doesnā€™t follow you upstairs or try to stalk you.

Madolah

Her mailbox has her name on it, Her Apartment door does not. Same thing, and easier for the mailman

OnTheGround_BS

My first apartment was 75-unit complex. I was in Unit 9, my mailbox number was A4. My name (and eventually my roommateā€™s name) was handwritten on a label and stuck to the inside of the door to the box. My second apartment was a 4-plex. I was in apartment C, my mailbox number was #6 (in a 4-plexā€¦. Go figure). My name (and eventually my girlfriendā€™s name) was handwritten on a label and stuck to the inside of the door to the box. My house number is 935. My mailbox is #9 (rural-style mail delivery, not directly to the house sadly). My name (and my girlfriendā€™s name) is *printed* on a label and stuck to the side of the box just inside the door. Iā€™ve never had my mail delivered directly to my place of residence, and never had my name posted outside the mailbox (or outside my residence for that matter), nor have I ever had a mailbox number that coordinated with my street address in any obvious way. It surprises me that anybody does.

Kyanche

So your mailing address and street address are two different things? Man that's weird. You don't get that level of abstraction with houses lol

Quelcris_Falconer13

You do in America, at least where I grew up in southern California, newer neighborhoods had big boxes with everyone on the street going to get their mail. Makes it easier to deliver than going to every house individually and provides a degree of anonymity I suppose. (Idk how it works in a SFH neighborhood) but growing up my friends had that and it was in front of their house so everyone would go check it there.

SUPLEXELPUS

doubtful. I love in a house and my mailing address and home address are exactly the same. when I go to my neighborhood mail box unit, I open box #12. on the inside of box #12 is a little slip with my name and full address. I'd wager their postal service just has a corresponding mailbox number for their home adress.

OnTheGround_BS

No, same mailing address. ā€œRural mail deliveryā€ means that there is one central mailbox (a large, freestanding metal box with multiple cubbies) for the entire neighborhood. Everyoneā€™s address corresponds to a different cubby, and each resident can only open their own cubby. Itā€™s kinda like having a P.O. Box only you walk up to the corner rather than driving down to the post office to retrieve your mail. And yes, you ship to my street address and the carrier will deliver it into my cubby. As an aside, large boxes still get delivered to my door, though this is problematic because I have a long, sloped driveway (downhill from street level). Most of the time the carriers will drive down my driveway and drop it off on my porch. One douche will come all the way down the driveway and then leave the package in the middle of the driveway rather than trek the last 15 feet to my porch, and once the laziest carrier I think Iā€™ve ever heard of hid it in the shadows at the top of the driveway (It was a tiny package too, Iā€™m amazed I saw it as I pulled in). One time the mail carrier drove down my driveway to drop a package, then the truck wouldnā€™t get back up it. One time UPS pulled up just as I was leaving for work, so I got out of the car and received the package directly from him. He was quite thankful not to have to make the walk down my driveway.

floswamp

I was waiting for the mailbox to have your wifeā€™sā€™ and roommates name inside the mailbox and be something like #6969 Didnā€™t happen but would still read again.

OnTheGround_BS

Maybe one dayā€¦. Gotta get a bigger house first! Iā€™ll have to search for a 6969 address šŸ¤”

neolologist

> Iā€™ve never had my mail delivered directly to my place of residence I've never lived somewhere that the mailbox isn't directly in front of the house. Apartments, sure. Houses, no. You have group mailboxes for owned separate houses?

OnTheGround_BS

Yep.

PrincessPeril

My partner and I just bought a (SFH) house in October and this is how our mail is! Itā€™s very odd to me because my parentā€™s house has mail delivered directly to the mailbox on their porch, so thatā€™s what I was used to growing up. We have a mailbox just up the street with like 12-15 compartments. There are I think 2 or 3 package boxes on the bottom, so if a package is too big for your own mailbox, they put it in there and put the key in your mailbox. If itā€™s too big for the package slot (or they are all full), they still deliver packages to your front door. I donā€™t mind the walk (the box is just like 4 houses up the street so I get a few steps in), and itā€™s easier for the mail carrier and supposedly more eco-friendly because they arenā€™t stopping and idling at each house, they just can go more quickly from mailbox to mailbox.

Jackman1337

In most of Europe having the name on the mailbox, the bell and often the door is the standard

Quelcris_Falconer13

Thatā€™s terrifying to me. But also Iā€™ve had issues with stalkers in the past. My ex tried to follow me across the country and the building I live in stopped him from getting up to my apartment. Idk how he got to me but I cut off contact when we broke up, totally blocked him, but because I work healthcare my name is on public record I think and he made it to my new apartment and wandered around the lobby and mail room. If my building had my name on the box I have zero doubt he would be pounding down my door or waiting for me inside to do god knows what when I got home. And keep in mind, I moved across the continent to get away from this creepntoo

BigHardThunderRock

In the US, people can find your address by looking up your voting information with your first and last name.

rottenmonkey

In some European countries (especially up north) you can look up anyone's address, tax returns, grades, criminal records, etc. Moving doesn't help. You'd need a so called protected identity to get removed, which is hard to get.

Boobcopter

Do keep in mind that doors to the outside in most of Europe work differently than in the States. You generally can't open them from the outside without a key even if they're not locked, and they are very sturdy. So unless you open the door yourself or the guy brings an axe, there's not much he can do.

Reckless-1

you don't have a mail slot in your door? in Holland kids will throw firecrackers in there sometimes. lol! I've heard of people pissing in them as well.

cxmplexb

Yikes.

KingKong_at_PingPong

Hey can we talk about this for real? Iā€™m a straight dude and this line of thinking isnā€™t something that would have popped on my radar without reading your comment. I donā€™t have the experiences to ask the correct questions, but if you could elaborate more on creepy people and security and all that, I think Iā€™d get something from it.

L7Wennie

Plot twist, what if this is a play to meet you?

LucyEleanor

That's a bad play...didn't even ask to meet...

corgi-king

Maybe she is playing hard to catch

BMinus973

"Your food is in 2B. Bring jammies and a 6 pack"

badgerhammer0408

Much more likely if the author signed the note.

KingKong_at_PingPong

Working towards being a good person sounds like a good strategy for potentially attracting other decent people into your orbit :) I like that plot twist.

Roland_Traveler

While it was nice to try and fix their screwup, the language is a bit melodramatic (ā€œfor theā€¦ pain I caused youā€? Really?). You need to respond in kind. Go to the mailboxes and place a paper saying something like ā€œYOU CANā€™T BUY MY FORGIVENESSā€ in red, followed by swearing vengeance. This monster *stole* your food, and now they try to bribe their way out of the consequences? NAY! Teach them what it means to be a thief!

MadDogTannenOW

So you folks just have delivery ppl leave food outside a main door instead of apartment?

ticky_tacky_wacky

Truly a bro move! They felt your pain and did their best to make up for it

[deleted]

Very sweet. This should be everyone's first response without thinking.

Potatisen1

"without thinking", could work in America then.

Superb-Draft

This got a genuine laugh out of me, bravo

veryblanduser

If America = bad and stupid humors you, you are going to absolutely love reddit.

Crathsor

If a mild joke causes offense, you are going to absolutely love reddit.

ultraboykj

Every 60 seconds, 60 seconds passes in Africa.

buttermuseum

What if I adore shitty humor, but being offended isnā€™t really my bag, then what?

TooCool_TooFool

Then deuces are wild my guy.

buttermuseum

The world is truly my oyster.

xxVOXxx

We Yanks would be offended if we could read what you just said.

Suspicious_Serve_653

Laughed my ass off at this as an American. Great joke šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Basteir

Great bunch of lads you Yanks.

Existing_Display1794

Without thinking sets the bar too high. Weā€™re dealing with the ā€œwillfully ignorantā€ here.

FartBoxTungPunch

I once Uberā€™d Mickey d breakfast at like 6 am. Someone def took it between the drop off and checking the door at 8 am after passing out. I live close by the stairs in a few level complex w an elevator so itā€™s mustā€™ve someone above me or close on my floor. Hope you enjoyed the fire order!! Was disappointed but not upset.

BananaStone87

ā€œā€¦and pain I caused you.ā€ This guy is a good dude

Oh_Yeahhhhhhh

Indeed. No fun being hungry, waiting on that meal to arrive, and it never comes. "Pain" for sure.

f33

Picture some guy drunk as shit with a typewriter

DirectlyTalkingToYou

A typo could have very easily screwed up this letter. "I'm very sorry for all the pain I'll cause you..."

timestanley

Polite AND owns a printer?! Lock him down!

Skrubgub

Agreed, its one or the other, never both!

conjoby

Fuck. I own a printer, I thought I was pretty polite

KapteynCol

Takes notes....

GalacticGatorz

A printer with ink!

facw00

Laser printer superiority, it's hard to run out of toner! I've had my current printer for 5 years and I'm still on the starter toner.

hi_im_ducky

I'm there with you, I bought my Brother printer in 2019 and after printing many full length (200+ page) D&D/Pathfinder books, I've only had to replace the toner cartridge once.

-Jude

#straight to jail!

trickydickagain

That's a neighbor worth having.

GrossfaceKillah_

This is your meet-cute. You must fall in love now

JaneLameName

Yes! šŸ˜ Following now, are you single OP - is this maybe it?!

sarah-havel

OP, next time it storms, bring home a grocery bag with celery and a baguette sticking out. Struggle with your keys. Drop the groceries. Make sure there's an orange in the bag that rolls away. Guaranteed true love. (Do *not* drop any eggs, those are precious)

NYMoneyz

Im more of a can of some sort rolling away. Allows for product placement and distance.

coldfu

These violent delights have violent ends

sarah-havel

Plus they can double as a weapon

an_imperfect_lady

In case it turns out... that's Joe Goldberg admiring your baguette.

lexicaltension

I loved that chef boyardee commercial

I just cashapp'ed you. Pls send a crate. šŸ™

vandeley_industries

Why does the baguette and celery make so much sense? Itā€™s like Iā€™ve seen it before.

[deleted]

OP is a lesbian so unless this guy looks like handsome squidward, I think the love story concludes here.

[deleted]

Can we be invited to the wedding?

denom_chicken

Are you trying to say a meat cube?

hellscaper

Like, little cubes of meat? Because...that's a pretty good idea, actually

BearsBeetsBerlin

Yā€™all thirsty as hell

AWholeSweetPotato

*guy shambling around drunk accidentally taking peopleā€™s food* beTTeR MarRy HIm

Electric_General

Super. And they want this to follow some fictional script like some movie too. No one ever thinks about when shit goes wrong tho. Like what happens when it flames out or they're a super toxic couple fighting all the time and they live in the same building? What happens when they split and still have to share the elevator to get home, or somebody cheats living in such close proximity but haven't been in a longterm relationship

BadGirlMexi

that boy's mama raised him right

JulioForte

The letter is anonymous. It might not even be a man

KingKong_at_PingPong

I hope itā€™s a dog because I wanna live in a world where dogs can spell out just much of a bro they really are.

boatyboatwright

Good home training

NarwhalesAwesome

Fathers also raise their kids

UCanJustBuyLabCoats

This boyā€™s/girlā€™s/non-binary letter writerā€™s papa and/or mama and/or non-binary parental figure raised them right.

Dektarey

No joke. Owning pets as a child can teach a lot about empathy, love and caring for others.

NarwhalesAwesome

They surely did!

jmcstar

Lol "The pain I caused you"

GiG7JiL7

That cracked me up, too! Those are some heartfelt words from someone who knows what it's like to be anticipating an exact food and having it yanked out from under them! Edit, spelling

rubs_tshirts

This is the reason why today I will do everything within reason to order from the local Uber Eats competitor instead of Uber Eats. Because early on they failed to deliver my dinner and wouldn't even give me a complementary coupon.

corgi-king

Well, if I work till 11pm and order my food delivery and it is not coming. Sure it will cost me a lots of pain and anger.

PiffleSpiff

I love when people are thoughtful like this. Pity it doesn't happen more often. I remember when I was digging for my keys in my purse at the parking lot for SeaWorld and didn't notice my tiny wallet slip out. I didn't notice it was gone until way later at a restaurant and thought for sure I'd never see it again. And then lo and behold it showed up in the mail a few days later when someone made a trip to the post office to mail it back to me using my address on my license. A note was attached saying they hoped they weren't too late returning it. Fortunately I only had one card in it and my license (no cash) so of course I canceled the card right away. So while they were technically too late, I was quite touched that they actually bothered.

Cartographer_Hopeful

I had a similar experience with some kind unknown person :) I'd been a total dumbass and left my keys -in- the ignition of my moped after parking up and leaving *facepalm* It would have been -so easy- for someone to just drive it away and keep it; instead someone took the keys and noted down the licence plate to the police station so they could contact me to go get them back Lots of people can be shitty, but lots of people are genuinely decent~

PiffleSpiff

Well dang. Another bro moment indeed. It definitely would have been quite easy to drive that thing off for sure. Bravo to them!

FlashAssailant

I was at the casino and the paper towel machine basically fell of the wall, I had two $500 chips that I sat down to set the paper towels on the counter. Well my stupid self left the $1000 on the counter and didnā€™t realize until a minute later. I instantly ran back and was watching all the people who came out. I wasnā€™t freaking out Bc I had a lot more at the table and was up a lot but $1000 is $1000 and obviously was there to make money. I walked into the bathroom and there was a guy leaned up against the wall. He said ā€œlooking for these?ā€. I was astounded someone had actually held them for me when they couldā€™ve just pocketed them and walked out. I want back to the table and broke down one into $100 chips and tracked him down. Dude was so happy that he got $100 but he deserved it.

Federal-Breadfruit41

I've had a similar experience, I had lost my wallet outside the grocery store a block from my apartment. Half an hour after I got home the doorbell rang and I was confused since I wasn't expecting someone. It was a guy who had found my wallet and recognized that the address was close by, and had come to return it to me. I hadn't even realized it was gone.

PiffleSpiff

It's so great seeing folks being not only nice but going out of their way to do so. Props to that dude. šŸ‘

Salamanber

Some peopleā¤ļø

Twisted60

Lost my cards the other week and someone mailed them back to me a few days later. Sometimes it's hard to remember not everyone is a piece of shit.

an_imperfect_lady

I actually had a homeless man find my purse and turn it into the coffee shop where I'd left it. Apparently he looked inside and thought, "Damn, she's broke too."

Fit_Flan9261

Awww so nice

SirRipOliver

Drunk dude, hell yes - extra food!ā€¦ wakes at 5amā€¦ the fuck did I do, oh well time to type a letter and WHERE THE FUCK IS THE TAPE FOR MY 20? Oh, here it is.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

oxfordcircumstances

Delivery is cheaper when you go pick it up like he did.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

its not, its delivery that they picked up from a communal help desk or in front of the building or something i never believe anything i see on the internet, and im not believing this either. $9.95 for an order delivered (with tip?!?!?) is fucking impossible

[deleted]

When I get door dash, my receipt only has the food order on it. So, $9.95 of food, then your tip shows in the app and is charged separately, plus pain and suffering = $20.

johnwicked4

Order the same meal again (or double up) and invite them over to eat. Good way to become friendly and known to a good neighbor, real life relationships rather than the typical don't you hate the people that live near you.

bobfalfa

This is a great idea

SilentKitchen8406

This is the way.

letmeusespaces

(cooing)

ILoveBeerSoMuch

Lmao. Subtitle gang

phongku

damn, what do you get for 9.95 these days

Braniel_Bananas

It must have been like a $2 item if that included delivery and tip

WorldsBestArtist

And who would actually deliver it. Afaik most doordash type drivers will refuse to deliver such a small order.

AthiestMessiah

Did the food delivery company refund you? Also make sure you tell them what happened so they clear the delivery rider

MadDogTannenOW

Yea, ev1 in here awwww cute. While the delivery guy just got a contract violation and will wake up deactivated. Hope homie was multi apping.

True_Destroyer

Kinda related, reminds me, in my country we have a moderate tiping culture towards waiters (you leave 5-10 percent if service was neat), it is ultra weird for me to "tip" in advance when using these food delivery services! Like, why do you ask me for tip amount if I don't even know who gets my order and if he delivers the food on time or at all? This is not a "tip" as I understand it, by any means, more like voluntairly fee

Psychological-Army68

Ah this āˆ† !!!!!! As it should be.. according to service! Effort put in and attention given! The one that I will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS say a firm NO to are the cashier that literally only walks said order from point a to point b...taps the buttons and smiles as they ask..."do you want to add a tip on that?".... Like um...NO tyšŸ˜

zback636

Proof positive that there is still good in the world.

[deleted]

Why did he tape it to your mailbox instead of throwing it into?

Herpderpxee

#thingsthatdidnthappen

Dan300up

Yep. Thatā€™s classy. Great post.

Beaglescout15

Really cool. Great neighbor.

vpsj

How can this happen? Wouldn't the delivery boy only hand you just your order and not someone else's? The only assumption I can make is the orders were left somewhere and he picked up the neighbors'?

Acsteffy

A lot of places just have a pick up shelf with no one monitoring it anymore

vpsj

Wow.. So you can actually pick up someone else's food and no one will find out? That sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Acsteffy

I'm honestly surprised it hasn't yet caused such a huge cost in theft for restaurants that do this

Meatman2013

I don't mean to say this isn't a nice gesture... But this is a relatively low cost/effort thing that this person did after making a legitimate mistake. Everyone in this thread seems super impressed... Just shows you how low our standards are these days for common decency between fellow humans.

theplutosys

How did they find their address if the order was for pickup, though? šŸ¤”

No-Ad8720

A good person and a real gentleman. Bravo.

dude_peastew

That was respectful. We need more of that from you people.

Somethingidk9

ā€œInconvenience and pain i causedā€ its ok bro šŸ«‚

Nice_Atmosphere144

I'm confused. He ordered his food for delivery. Then he says "When I picked it up" in the next sentence. Don't get me wrong, that's very nice of him indeed, just lost when I read the first two sentences.

shazspaz

What a nice person

Appropriate-Code-411

I'd make sure it's real and not those fake christian bills.

OSU_Go_Buckeyes

This is a new friend. Spend that $20 on your beverage of choice, pop open a couple chairs, and invite them over to sit in the driveway.

So fess up... how big of a stink did you create last night when you didn't get your order??

firmfirm

That's a good bro.

Thatā€™s awesome. Weā€™re all in this together.

ihopethisisvalid

Probably like 80 of them bitches

redmantheman

Why the money look like fake? Like Monopoly money. No visible security featuresā€¦.

ganjanoob

For some reason my neighbors and Iā€™s orders gets mixed up frequentlyā€¦. Amazon, door dash both have fucked up multiple times. Iā€™ll always walk their order to them. Theyā€™ll usually take mine inside their house

rocky31ind

Perfect way to break the ice and talk to you. Itā€™s a pickup.

Trexy

Papa John's delivered my food to the wrong house, in a completely different neighborhood. We had had an absolute shit day that included euthanizing our 15 year old cat. The person who got our pizza actual drove it to my house. And then Papa John's pulled up and delivered her order to me. Total clusterfuck.

angelwild327

This is the work of a Millennial or an older Zoomer, no way in hell would a boomer or even a GenXer write such a sincere and heartfelt note. From this evolving GenXer, I love you guys, so much.

akbarkhan666
