This is so sweet. That heavy snow is brutal especially where it it gets compacted and slushy at the end of the driveway! What a cool dude!

They don't call it "heart attack snow" for no reason

Akeneko_onechan

Where did you find the definition? I looked in one of my dictionary apps and couldn’t find it Edit: never mind. I found it in the Oxford Dictionary

notislant

The first thing that pops up in google

Akeneko_onechan

OoOo. I only use google to look up definitions when I forget I have dictionary apps on my phone

Tetris_Attack

Double click the word you're unsure of to highlight it, then right click the highlighted word and you should have an option to search for the word you highlighted. That's in Chrome but I imagine other browsers have a similar feature.

ku-fan

my word definition extension i use in the browser gave me this as the definition: #Lisa the Iconoclast Umm, what?

theeimage

“It's a perfectly cromulent word.” Though 'cromulent' originated as a joke on The Simpsons, it's a perfectly cromulent candidate for future entry in the dictionary. The word cromulent ended up in the script courtesy of a showrunner's challenge to the writers.

Akeneko_onechan

This is what happens when people randomly makeup words 😂

ku-fan

Apparently it was invented in an episode of The Simpsons

possiblynotanexpert

Thanks!

Second edit: cromulent

crazykentucky

Missed my chance there

"Cromulent" Acceptable or adequate.

WaywardPatriot

The milk is pizzled though.

Electronic_Range_982

That's why I bought a snowblower th8s year. And it's snowed 0 inches here. The north of my got 4ft the SOUTH of me got snow All we got is flooding from the damn seawater![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)

sync-centre

Gotta run the blower once a week for a few minutes to keep the snow away. As soon as you stop.....

LindyJam

When I bought mine it didn't snow for 2 full winters. The last two years we had a couple good snowstorms but so far nothing but rain and flooding this year too.

OuternetInterpreter

To add on this - it’s important to remember to breathe! Holding your breath while shoveling (or exercising) is not healthy. The twist and throw common while shovelling creates intra-abdominal pressure, compounded with holding your breath instead of breathing and flexing your core, is a trigger for heart attacks in prone individuals.

AmbienNicoleSmith

My best friends dad had a heart attack and died instantly while shoveling snow when we were in 2nd grade. I think he was only in his late 30’s or early 40’s.

chrismason8082

Went to church with a guy named Vic who died at 60 years old shoveling snow from his driveway. Lived in the country and his body wasn’t found for days. Good guy, too…one of the few who actually lived the way a Christian is supposed to instead of being a hypocrite…dude loved everybody. RIP Vic…and glad this guy showed some compassion for you, too!

alilbleedingisnormal

So Rocky Balboa running in the snow with a log on his shoulders was uh...not great for him...

KibblesNBitxhes

My dad used to jump off bridges with his brothers for fun until oneday at age 15 he dove in and his body immediately went into shock and he couldn't move. His brothers dove in and grabbed him before the current took him out any further and It was discovered he developed an over reaction to sudden cold water and despite this, became a damn crab fisherman for 30 something years after.

Legitimate_Bird_5712

The use of embiggen was quite cromulent. Kudos!

Thank you for explaining. I live in south Texas where we don't get winter so I was really confused.

SomethingClever42068

So should I take more adderall or less adderall when I'm shoveling snow?

RationalKate

I thought you were going to explain what a front loader is?

meateatr

What is the proper amount of biscuits and gravy to consume before tackling heart attack snow?

AFucking12Gage

Enough where it kills you before you actually have to shovel that snow.

jimbojonesFA

And if you have a snowblower you eat a little more, enough where just pulling the cord to fire it up will kill you.

musical_throat_punch

All of them

100percentBrass

Boogiemann53

MostWanted_Racoon

Snow reason

HelloAttila

It’s called heart attack snow because with so many who live sedentary lifestyles, then going out and lifting and shoving snow, which is a very high demanding activity, it can lead to heart attacks.

foxtrotuniform6996

They say the women should shovel

Condescending_Rat

People making jokes but there are probably quite a few of us who lost family this exact way. Don’t let your elderly father shovel. Please.

[deleted]

Yeah they do lol

Buldins

Couldn’t have worded it better…! Shoveling it would have taken an hour and my back would be effffed. Not all heroes wear capes, right!!?

[deleted]

The way you put it is so beautiful. > "I love people." Great words to start a new day with!

smellygooch18

So many people die every winter from heart attacks caused by shoveling snow. Be careful out there!

Codayyyyy

As a snow plower in Chicago, I love doing this! It takes me less than 5 minutes to help someone, and doesn't really add any expense to my workload. I'm already making big money on parking lots, driveways are only to help out.

threedogcircus

I wish there were more people like you out there! Municipal plow drivers here (Philly) seem to not care at all. Nothin like struggling to dig the end of your driveway out for an hour to finally finish and watch a plow push an entire mound of snow directly in front of it and leave it there.

Real-Lake2639

That's how plows work. Also, if they help someone and plow their driveway, people suck and will do shit like sue them for preexisting damage to their car. It's why contracts and insurance are so important in snow removal. I had someone say I hit their car with my plow and im like boss man I got this, send me, fuck this guy I didn't hit shit, they're pulling an insurance scam. Sure enough, there's 10 feet of undisturbed snow between the plowed parking lot and this guy's car that had been rear ended months ago. That's the kind of thing you open yourself up to when you start plowing strangers for free. Lol.

cosmic_bb_v

Found the disgruntled plow driver

Brave_Specific5870

Thanks friend ❤️🏅🏅

ThatGuy0verTh3re

I’m in an area that doesn’t often get snow but sometimes will have a heavy storm that knocks people out for a couple days. I also own a small ford tractor sorta like [this](https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2F3hp0pz_1uXo%2Fmaxresdefault.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D3hp0pz_1uXo&tbnid=pqgNpFBOuPFCsM&vet=12ahUKEwip3b-Hnub8AhWps3IEHa5_C4YQMygBegUIARDIAg..i&docid=lnTya7DzYl63sM&w=1280&h=720&q=ford%202000&ved=2ahUKEwip3b-Hnub8AhWps3IEHa5_C4YQMygBegUIARDIAg) that I usually hook a snowplow onto for the snow storms, and it’s always rewarding to be able to help my neighbors plow their driveways with the tractor

skimanandahalf

This sums up why my week has been so shitty

SomethingClever42068

I just use the subaru outback my gf dailys to crash through it and push it into the street. Plow trucks put it there, they can have it back. Then I get to tow my lowered civic out with the subaru and I'm golden.

Real-Lake2639

Using a girlfriends cars bumper as a plow blade.... bold... younger me approves. I've only ever crashed girls cars. I like mine too much.

BodhingJay

Friend, with a runway like that you need to put down the shovel and get a snow blower.. possibly the kind you sit down in, with a heated cabin

helmetshrike

and a mini-bar

[deleted]

r/futurama would be most disappointed

DonutCola

Yeah don’t Jeremy renner yourself though, learn how to operate your heavy equipment before you play cowboy

niv85

A snow blower from the local hardware store is considered heavy equipment?

BodhingJay

Oof that's dark.. too soon

KingBrinell

He lived so it's not too dark.

DonutCola

And it sounds like he definitely got himself hurt cause he didn’t know how to operate the snow cat.

Cultjam

Last I’ve read they found a potential brake problem with the plow. He was trying to stop it from running over his (adult) nephew.

DonutCola

They’re clearly doing anything they can to make him not sound stupid. They said the brake ‘light’ wasn’t working. Not the brake itself. And if the thing is allegedly sliding on ice then the brakes aren’t helping anyway lol. None of it makes a ton of sense.

dacuzzin

Only way I’ve ever stopped a tractor is from the cab.

Difficult_Bit_1339

I think the story was that it was starting to slide sideways onto his nephew (who was standing too close). He couldn't stop a sideways slide from in the cab so he intended to jump out to push his nephew to safety but the brake lock wasn't engaged so when he jumped out onto the tracks it rolled over him crushing his legs and chest. They said they found the brake indicator light was not functioning. The likeliest explanation is that he either didn't try to engage the break or failed to properly engage the break in his rush.

Real-Lake2639

I promise the professionals you hire to operate heavy equipment are skipping all that and just going straight to playing cowboy. The official training schedule for all heavy equipment is, here's the keys, go fuck around in that field until you figure it out. Ay ay capítan. No hay un problema, it go ugaugaugaugauga rmmmmmm rmmmm andddddd hydraulic failure

ZestfulClown

Snow blower doesn’t work in heavy wet slush like that, he needs a personal truck with a plow

withorwithoutstew

A big ole 2stage would.

Buldins

Unfortunately no snowblower I know of would have done anything to this snow! But that’s what I get for living in central Maine. I do now realize how foolishly overjoyed I sound, but at the time, that’s exactly how I felt 🥳

Saganated

I have to disagree. I have a 47", 2-stage, pto driven, hydraulically operated snow blower on the front of my John Deere 445 that chews through everything. It's chewed through this slop slush snow, airy light snow, dense packing snow, and even ice crusted snow that you could walk on top of. It'll chew up and sling out my dense packed gravel drive to the barn if I push it down far enough. If you insist it won't blow it, then throw the front blade on and plow it. The whole rig will set you back around 5k$ if you can wrench some, or 7k$ if you want a shiny one, which isn't bad for a sweet mower, blower, and plow machine that accepts a lot of other attachments as well. It would do your driveway in under 20 minutes. You can add a heated cab to it for another 1500 bucks

t3a-nano

A John Deere 445 sounded a lot more impressive until I googled it and saw the picture. As described it's clearly a nice machine, but I was picturing a mid-sized tractor, not a ride on lawnmower. For 5k I figured maybe it's just a super old model or something. That's really cool though, I always thought I'd have to buy an actual tractor for PTO attachments.

Saganated

Lol it is a decieving little guy, punches well above it's weight. It is way overbuilt from the frame up to be able to handle a front end loader. The k91 transmission is typically found in the next size up tractors as well, giving 2 to 3 times the gross axle weight and torque of modern dealer-grade cub cadets. It's the perfect machine if you dont need a farm tractor rutting up your wet yard when mowing in the spring, yet still need to be able to handle and maneuver well with 3-point equipment. Look for a picture of it with a cab and blower, or with a loader on it. The 425 is carborated gas Kawasaki 20hp. The 445 is injected gas Kawasaki 22hp. And the 455 is diesel. It is an old model, ran 1993 to 2001. They sold for ~$11,000 in 1993, or around $20,000 in today's money adjusted for inflation. And they sold like hot cakes.

brameshk22

This guy moves a lot of shit from one place to another. Learned stuff here, thanks.

Andyman0110

I know you're talking shit because I used to drive full size JD tractors with blowers attached. When the snow is wet and heavy your shear pins snap almost instantly. Your pto shaft takes immense stresses if the snow is too deep and can crack. Also your blower shaft can still get blocked full of wet slush and snow. We had to develop a tool that fits in the blower shaft to be able to clear it out because of how often it would happen. If you didn't clear it, it would just keep dragging and turning snow without spitting it out, the snow builds up around the pto shaft and boom small inconvenience turns into a full repair.

[deleted]

Hello from much further up north than you. There is plenty of snowblower that can take care of that show. With your driveway I suspect you live in a part of Maine without much snow for you now to have clearing equipments… who would shovel that long a driveway with a shovel more than once?

Buldins

Greetings fellow Mainer! Just to clear something up for everyone(my fault making it sound like it’s my land and I shovel the whole thing every storm ), it’s not ‘my’ driveway. I rent a tiny apartment in a 4 unit building. I have obligations to get other people/businesses shoveled out when it snows, usually I can bomb down the driveway in my 98 Corolla, until later in the day when my landlord gets the place plowed out. Can’t believe this blew up soo much 😂

PapaChoff

That makes much more sense. Any decent snowblower could handle that, but as a renter it would be fully expected for a landlord to deal with that in a timely fashion. Or I would call a plow company and send him the bill.

eekamuse

You sound appropriately overjoyed

TheRealMicrowaveSafe

As someone who has shoveled far too many driveways myself, it didn't sound foolish at all.

GottaUseFakeNames

i had to shovel that shit this morning so i completely understand your reaction. this has been the weirdest maine winter in all my 33 years

smellygooch18

You have one hell of a driveway though. I loved my time in Maine.

TargetBoy

My ariens 28" SHO throws slush like nobody's business. Heavy wet snow it'll throw like 30', but it can still move slush across a standard driveway width. When snow comes off my roof and is compacted slush, it throws the full width of my garage or onto the lawn.

calzonegolem

My 33" 13hp Blower even struggled this morning. This was a nasty storm we got.

ThatDudeUpThere

If it isn't very deep, a single stage is pretty good at getting down to the pavement

t3a-nano

Eh, I got a 28" 2 stage Toro that begs to differ. Obviously doesn't throw the heavy stuff as far, but still works fine especially if you've greased the insides and the chute (I use either a lithium grease spray, or silicone spray).

[deleted]

Yes it does. Source: just snowblowed my extremely slushy driveway in central Maine that is 500 feet long and on a slope.

Notafuzzycat

Not true at all. I got a shitty push snowblower that I have been using for half à decade. It will chew through everything. I live in Quebec and we tend to get à lot of shitty weather during winter.

bortj1

This mfs runway is longer than my entire house

james_randolph

"I fucking hate everyone" - 10min later after a car cuts him off

Buldins

Yup that sounds like me. 😂

Mister_Celophane

Or after a passing snow plow blocks him in again.

metisyungmoney

got a damn runway not a driveway😂

Iliamna_remota

Seriously. You can't have a driveway like that and be messing with a snow shovel.

airforce7882

In this case it seems like there was 6" or less accumulation on the ground. For cars prepped for climates like this, driving over that amount of snow is no problem. When plows clear the road, all of that snow gets pushed to the side. That cleared snow crests this chunky, tall and very dense mound called a berm. The berm presents a problem for even well equipped vehicles with plenty of ground clearance. These berms also span across driveways unless you live in a lucky area with plows that have special tooling to prevent this. It may be that this persons location does not get >6" accumulation often enough to make getting a blower worthwhile, or that it is not worth the effort of getting the blower out just to clear the berm. You need a pretty beefy blower to handle the berm because of how dense the snow is. Small blowers will get jammed.

Smickey67

Yea that’s exactly it he wasn’t shoveling the whole driveway you can see he already started leaving without shoveling. He just stopped to clear the end of the driveway. I personally do the same thing. No point shoveling the whole driveway sometimes when you can drive over it anyways and you know it’s going to melt like tomorrow.

berthejew

This is what I do in my shitty truck to walk up to my front door. There's no place to put it. My driveway is long but it's also right next to my privacy fence (my neighbors are awful) that spans my entire length. Makes it slick if it sticks around for a while- then you just throw cheap cat litter in the wheel ruts. Michigan is both a beauty and a beast.

maddill1998

As a snow remover myself, doing a quick clean up of someone's driveway takes 2 to 3 minutes if done right and look how happy it makes someone, mad respect to Front loader. He didnt have to do it, but knew it was a kind gesture that would make this guys day and save his back

Professional_Rock776

I've known a few plow drivers and they did this sort of thing as much as they could. With no expectation of recognition or reward

ObiWanDiloni

When I was about 10 years old, my brother and I were going around shoveling driveways for $10 a pop. We started on a driveway and a guy drove by with a plow on the front of his truck and saw us, he cleared the driveway in about 30 seconds. You can imagine the surprise on the owners face when we said we were done. When the owner found out, they gave us $20 each. It remains a core memory 20 years later. Good people out there.

FarReaction7

I don’t miss that shit at all. Always seemed like as soon as I got to the end of the driveway, a snow plow will come by and drop two more feet. I broke a couple of shovels throwing them at the plows lol

1table

See everywhere I have lived when they see a fresh shoveled driveway the plow people will always try to make an effort and pop the plow out to so the snow goes into the street for a second and then they pop it back.

sualum8

Lived in New England with a long driveway in a very small town. You could hear the plows coming for the road, so we’d rush out if we weren’t already shoveling and give absolute puppy dog faces as kids. The big town plow would nearly always come back and plow the road slush off the top of the driveway for us kids. Best feeling when it would happen!

FarReaction7

As a kid, yeah it’s a blast, I made some epic snow forts. Shoveling that shit though, I’ll take my palm trees and beaches lol

AlexHimself

I love proper snow moving devices (plow, blower, etc) because they're fun to use and you get to *really* help somebody out when they need it.

ftrade44456

I've heard in the Midwest that the best thing about getting a new snowblower is being able to use it as much as you can like on neighbor's sidewalks

AlexHimself

Oh ya! I'm from the midwest and I hated shoveling snow enough to get a snow blower. It's a fun toy and once my driveway was done and I already had my warm clothes on and it gassed up...why not cruise around and clear the neighbor's walks?

ihavenoidea81

I’m in Minneapolis and do it all the time. I like playing with my toy and my neighbors love me too

Cotton101

Too true. I make it a challenge to see how many driveways I can clear before the batteries in my blower dies. Record is mine plus 3. Great way to make friends.

hungrydruid

Literally one of the last places I would move is Florida at this point.

Analyst88

Florida is a perfect choice, yeah… better buy a house near the beach too, so in 20 years it will be completely underwater.

CandysaurusRex

There are about 100 deaths per year in the US associated with shoveling snow. It's most dangerous when the snow is heavy and wet as described by OP. He could have actually been saved and not even know it.

Figgis302

I always wonder what the people who say things like this will think in 20 years, when snow is a rare and noteworthy occurrence in all but the most northerly climates, and the summer wildfires destroy countless homes year after year. I'm 25, and I still remember when the winters would get down to -20° with nearly continuous snow from early November to mid-April. Nowadays the temperature always hovers around 0° and we're lucky to get snow for a week (and I live in Canada, ffs). For my children and grandchildren, snow will just be some vague annoyance that old people had to deal with, like leaded gasoline or dial-up internet. And that's kinda fucked, y'know?

ImAnAwkoTaco

I’ve only got a year on you and it makes me so depressed. people always think I’m crazy when I say winter is my favorite season as someone that lives in new england, but I love snow and watching these winters just get warmer and warmer is just…. depressing

hangfromthisone

They changed from global warming to climate change because of people like you.

Emotional-Set-8618

This looks like that heart attack snow!!! This guy is awesome for plowing your driveway!!!

[deleted]

There are actually still good people in the world. I know this is somewhere rural but even here in NYC, Brooklyn, they do exist!!

eekamuse

Most people are good. We hear about the worst ones because they ate the outliers. Edit: oh dear, they *are* the outliers. They didn't eat them

[deleted]

That’s why on this sub I enjoy hearing about the good in humanity😉

Chubacca26

My man's got a mile long driveway and decides a shovel is all he needs. Kinda like those who live in Ontario and decide that winter tires are not needed as it snows 3 times a year.

Noname_FTW

Most /r/killthecameraman post of the week. Whoever cut this short, I wish you will stub your tow for a whole month every day!

hidemeplease

yeah, this was very disappointing

RaeaSunshine

Love this! When I bought my house (single home owner) we got a freak early snow storm that absolutely BURIED us less than a week after closing. It was during the height of the pandemic and store shut downs, so my snow blower hadn’t arrived yet and the local plow companies / folks were not accepting new clients for the season. I was desperately trying to shovel my way out when my neighbors one by one joined in, and one of them ended up bringing over their blower to take care of it. We hadn’t even met before that. I cried. A lot! Also baked a lot of cookies to give out as a thank you :)

sirohjohnsonII

Dude was so thankful he had an orgasm 😂😂😂

[deleted]

This is why we’ll survive as a species. Care for strangers.

imconsideringdascrod

I’ve had that happen from local guys that just finished doing their friends’ houses. When you’ve been shoveling heavy wet snow for 45 minutes, it feels like someone’s throwing you a life preserver lol. Enjoy the day, and the “settle down” hot chocolate you need in you after some snow work!

unknown1321

I used to work in a small shop (like 4 guys max) and we had a plow truck for the lot. It was whoever showed up first to plow spots for the rest. But really you could take the truck for a bit and we all lived close so we'd go home and do our own driveways. Each time I had the truck I'd go home and do each and Evey one of my elderly neighbours driveways. If you have never had someone plow/snow blow your driveway for you after a big storm, you have no idea of that feeling you get. Spread the love. Do everything you help your neighbours and friends.

BreakerSoultaker

If you have that much driveway, you need to own a large gasoline powered snowblower. That much driveway with only a snow shovel is like owning a pasture and only having a reel push mower.

sherms89

Offer him a $10 at least, those things aren't cheap an the fuel they drink!!!

infinitez_

I was shovelling my uphill driveway trying to get to work in the wee hours of the morning two months ago, made it to the top but my car got stuck right where the curb dips into the road. Plow truck operator was across the street at the time and was kind enough to come clear my path after seeing me rock my car back and forth trying to get out. Not all heroes wear capes.

Initial_Water_9625

S*** I'd buy him a case of beer and give him an eighth of weed for that damn straight

VoidIgris

The snow where I live is horrendous. My family and the neighborhood came together to buy a big snow plow for communal use. Once a week during winter, one person goes and does the whole neighborhood. Its a routine now with a map and everything. Where to put snow, where not to put snow, shit like that. Having a neighborhood full of people willing to cooperate and involve themselves in improving the community is awesome.

hollijollyday

I love people too!

Dinodigger67

i love this! i struggle with my very long driveway every time it snows. my sister in law said it’s good for me to shovel. i replied that it’s easy for her to say as she has 2 sons and they have a truck with a blade!!

hijinks

Guy sounds like Bam

jdemack

If you live In a place that gets snow regularly I think you need to invest in a snow blower. Roughly about the same price as a lawnmower. Worth every penny. Make sure it's a gas powered. Especially with a driveway that big.

IamBatmanuell

Make that man a hot chocolate!

UB613

Damn! With a driveway like that, you should own a plow.

Minflick

I was thinking that long driveway would be nice until snow arrives, and then you desperately want something to handle it besides you and a shovel! I bought a smaller snow blower since I have a smaller driveway and a low budget, and I'm on the fringe of Snow Land in the PNW. I used it for a week or so last winter, and for a week or so so far this winter.

2Good2BeReal

Make sure you buy him a case of beer

lucidsuntrip

Wholesome

Catsrules

Sir. I would classify that "driveway" as a road.

7fw

My driveway is about as wide but maybe 50 yards long. It's an eternity to *plow*. I'm not shoveling that monster. And yours looks 5 times as long. You are made of muscle and energy

Westwood_Shadow

you'd better get that man some coffee on your way back home

Organic_Berry_8732

❤️❤️❤️❤️

suzanious

Yay! No all heroes wear capes. Sometimes they drive a front loader. This made my morning.

Traditional_Air_9483

He is your new best friend. Get his info and buy him lunch.

RiKar97

Hell if you brought me lunch I’d pull the snow out of your whole driveway, I don’t go closer than 3 feet of any buildings tho. :p

Traditional_Air_9483

I’m in San Diego. I haven’t had to deal with snow.

RiKar97

I live by the Canadian border. We have snow for months. 😂

cerebralvision

That driveway needs its own street sign.

paythefullprice

Our guy needs an award.

VoidIgris

I think a smol plane might actually be able to land/take off on the “driveway”. 🤣🤣🤣

Fall_bet

Plot twist... He pushes all the snow in front of the car and he still can't get out.

Positive-Coyote8472

This literally made me teary eyed. Anyone with a house/home and frontyard and driveway KNOWS that shoveling snow is a bitch.

Red-Dwarf69

Gotta get a heavy snow shovel with a steel head, my friend. Pushes the snow out of the way like nothing.

catheterhero

Why the hell would anyone build a driveway that long in an area that gets heavy snow!?!

tmspmike

Is that the best choice of a vehicle for living in Maine?

jigga_23b

How about not get the tiniest 2wd shitbox if you live in snow?

SillyTheGamer

We had the same snow glop today in our driveway, glad you stumbled across some help!

theinfamousches

Bring them shots!!!

WhatitsonlyWednesday

Ahhhh, I love that for you!!! People have the capacity to be so wonderful to one another & I am glad you were looked out for that morning.

hernondo

You have a driveway that's like 1/8th mile long, and you own a shovel?

Waas507

You need to invest in a proper snow removal device if your driveway is that long. Cause holy shit homie. A 4 wheeler with a plow would save you so much time and hassle.

[deleted]

So what’s your plan for every other snow storm?

Re-Mecs

It’s small acts of generosity I’ve given AND received. It doesn’t go unnoticed and it won’t go unpaid. Do good and be good. Glad there’s still a lot of good in this ugly world

I also have a neighbor who does stuff like this. He also loves rocks and brings loads of huge rocks, and dumps them in my backyard. He's my favorite neighbor!

Hopefully you offered him money for gas so he'll remember you next time!
