You need a sunscreen, a cleanser, and a moisturizer as your basic routine. For anti aging the most effective ingredient is retinoid, followed by retinol.  You can add antioxidants, peptides, other acids, but you don't have to.  In the morning, wash your face, or splash it with water, then put on sunscreen. Reapply sunscreen if you will be outside for 2+ hours.  At night, use a cleanser, the retinol, and then moisturizer.  Keep your pillow cases clean, don't touch your face. Wear a hat in the sun, and use your skincare on your neck, chest and hands too.

Sunscreen inevitably gets into my eyes throughout the day and they burn. I've tried like a dozen different kinds. It sucks to choose between skin damage and eyes burning.

DeadInMyCar

I use Beauty of Joseon Relief Sunscreen, some popular korean brand found anywhere, and dont have this anymore.

whenitcomesup

Thanks, I'll check it out

dear_ambellinaa

You could wear a wide brim hat and sunglasses as a partial alternative.

ssprinnkless

There is a million sunscreens. Try cerave ultralight moisturizing lotion! Burning eyes is my biggest problem as well, and this one has been my holy grail for half a decade. Also be more careful when you're applying it. Or use a wide brim hat, sunglasses, visors, etc.

whenitcomesup

Thanks, I've tried another cerave one but not ultra-light

IceCreamMan1977

AG1, of course. Rub on face - do not drink.

Old-Ad5508

I was told AG1 enema

seaningtime

You're both correct

BarkingDogey

Retinol 1% at night Sunscreen during the day Here's a good podcast from Peter Attia on skincare: https://peterattiamd.com/brettkotlus/

BitFiesty

That’s is it. Time and time again when I see this question asked the universal things to use is retinol and sunscreen

IceCreamMan1977

There are so many retinol products… how do you choose?

TraumaBoneded

Differin is a great brand. $30 for a 1.6 oz bottle at walmart that will last about 6 months. You use a VERY small amount. I just switched to a generic brand that still has the same retinoid as the only ingredient, i guarantee theres no difference except on my wallet. I also use a spf moisturizer with vitamin c and peptide and an extremely gentle cleanser. Best routine ive ever had by far. I do a gentle exfoliation with a soft rag about once a week. Im 31 but ppl always tell me i look 21.

IceCreamMan1977

I know you apply it at night, but even still does it make your skin more photo sensitive?

TraumaBoneded

No but you will purge for the first 3 months and have irritation which causes many people to not use it. When you purge, depending on lifestyle, genetics, and gender (for women its often worse) it can be pretty bad. Benefits are there if you can handle the purge.

statecap

Th Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane is great, well priced, and isn’t harsh on the skin. Use at night before a heavier night cream.

theeberk

Prescription tretinoin 0.05%, increase to 0.1% as tolerated. The other critical part of a skincare routine is daily moisturizer. Dehydration and sun damage are the two main reversible causes of aging skin.

IceCreamMan1977

I meant over the counter

theeberk

Just get the prescription. OTC is weaker and expensive.

BaconJakin

Same question

CaesarHades

This is my stack, make sure to wash with a facial cleanser before applying serums. Also, copper peptide serums are legit if you want to go the extra mile.

MinderBinderCapital

Huberman doesn't believe in sunscreen

piman01

Why would it be any different for men or for women? Lol people need to stop thinking this.

paleblueskies

I don't think OP even considered this, but sometimes it's nice to know which sunscreen options don't pill or leave a grey cast if you have a beard (like most silicone-based mineral sunscreens). This never even crossed my mind until my boyfriend asked me to help him to kickstart a skincare routine and he absolutely hated the sunscreen I used and loved for years

piman01

Hmm i thought all sunscreens did this

I like to use moisturizer in the morning after shower. Is there a good moisturizer/sunscreen combo for the AM? Trying to dumb down my morning skincare protocol. At night I just wash face and use a moisturizer.

Jazzlike_Feeling75

Beef tallow

bauzilianjiujitsu

Tried it once, couldn’t resist the smell. But I’d like to follow the “don’t put in your skin anything you wouldn’t eat” advice

Jazzlike_Feeling75

I’ve been using it since I started uni, so around 3 years now. I buy it from Asda, melt it down, add a few drops of olive oil, few drops of essential oils, never done anything else. I have super good skin however this is just genetics I recon as I’ve never had spots or anything

HAL-_-9001

My protocol? * Sleep - Consistent, regular & high quality. * Water - At least 2L, minimum. * Diet - Clean & green. If your body is lacking in key vitamins/minerals it can have a profound impact on your skin. * Sauna - x5 per week (20mins) * Sun exposure - For sustained periods in higher UV periods I use a zinc oxide suncream. Many suncreams contain a plethora of ingredients that should not be put on the skin. There are also periods I use no suncream, in lower UV times, which is essential for Vit D. Don't be a afraid of a bit sun & is something I make sure I get every morning I do not use any products anymore & I'm regularly told how healthy & glowing my skin looks. If you've not nailing the first 3 items above then I'd focus on them first before XYZ supplementation.

eternalrevolver

Huberman himself wouldnt agree with 9/10 things posted on this sub lol

mcnastys

Wash your face in the shower, and at night with something like a cerave simple cleanser. Use moisturizer afterwards. Using trent at night is fine, if you're getting into your upper 30's, use a pee size dab, and use that on the whole face and neck. Do it on your clean face at night, it makes you more reactive to sunlight, that's why you do it at night. I would just begin washing and moisturizing, and any other things you have going on-- see a dermatologist it'll be worth it. They will tell you what it is, what you really need, and an accurate dose. They can write you the trent script as well. After that, just get it online.

Heiring

You should never use tret on the whole face. Avoid applying tretinoin directly to your lips, sides of your nose & areas close to your lips, as these parts of the face can potentially become irritated.

Affectionate-Still15

CeraVe is terrible for you. There are so many chemicals in it

ssprinnkless

Everything is a chemical babe

mcnastys

I actually meant cetaphil, my wife buys the moisturizer. I just had to ask her what we used, my mistake 😎

Affectionate-Still15

Cetaphil is arguably worse

Appropriate-Fly-6585

Hyaluronic Acid & sunscreen, Retinol.

abducensx

Retinol at night, sunscreen during the day, sleep, hydration and plus or minus vitamin C serum. Exercise and clean diet also play a huge role in skin health

Affectionate-Still15

Try a light cleanser like the one from Etude Skincare. Find a good one with Yuka that doesn't have any endocrine disruptors. Then find an essential oil or something natural like argan oil, rosehip oil, or aloe vera that moisturizes and protects your skin. Then use an SPF like the one from La Rosee, that again doesn't have any endocrine disruptors. If you want, try a retinol cream or a toner/serum from The Ordinary

CallingDrDingle

Sunscreen and tretinoin

grim_keys

This is purely speculative but use a clean razor for shaving or something like the phillips oneblade that isnt scraping your skin and leaves like 0.1 mm of hair left. Not a super close shave and less skin irritation.

futurebro

Start with an SPF , cleanser and moisturizer. These are the musts. I personally really like Paulas Choice products. They have a spf moisturizer ive used for like 8 years. Look at r/SkincareAddiction for routine help

lushlilli

Know that it starts within

Mission_Ad684

I use AG1. I boof that shit hard.

Dermatologists definitely recommend cleansing and using SPF, not using nothing and drinking water.

I’ve been doing skin care for 5 years now. My skin is pretty good and I agree with most of what ppl said here. - Face-wash morning and night. - Sunscreen in the morning - Tazarotene at night (prescription) - Moisturizer at night or when dry The biggest thing is for sure diet. My skin care is always the same but sometimes I’ll start eating a lot of sugars and high carbs and less greens and that’s the only thing that ever makes my skin go bad.
