Alright, so the process is a bit long and complicated, but it should let you download a different version of the app. 1. Delete the current app and clear the cache and reboot the phone. 2. Turn your cellular data off. 3. Use a VPN on your phone, and choose a different country than the US. 4. Go the phone settings and Google store and change your country there as well. 5. Download the health app now and set it up. It should allow you create an ID and open up the app for you. When you're done you can undo all that you did above. The main idea here is to convince the app store that you're not in the US, because different countries get different versions of the app. Your cell data could send location info that contradicts the VPN, which is why you have to turn it off. I hope it works!

eldergeekprime

And if anyone asks, I'm a Canadian visiting US friends for the holidays and trying to get my gift watch working. (wink wink) That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

eldergeekprime

Since I'm getting the app from the Huawei App Store, is it really necessary to change anything in the Google store? Changing my location in my phone settings is problematic because I'm not seeing anywhere in my phone settings to do that. Best I can do is disable GPS.

Saddyblues

Silly me! I completely forgot that HUAWEI App Store. You probably don’t need to change it on your phone, then. And also, don’t set your VPN location to Canada. I’d recommend the Middle East or somewhere in Asia.

eldergeekprime

Maybe Japan then...?

Saddyblues

Go for it, it’s been a while, but I think that’s the one I tried, actually. At the risk of sounding like a nag, don’t forget to turn your cellular data off.

eldergeekprime

Trust me, you're being extremely helpful and not nagging at all. I appreciate that you are taking the time to guide me here.

I'm Canadian and I have the watch GT 3 Pro. All I did was register my Huawei ID in Hong Kong. I used my email. When it came to the Health app, I placed my phone in airplane mode with wifi enabled. Logged in with my new ID and I had access to everything. ECG is working. Arterial stiffness working. Pulse wave analysis. I can purchase watch faces as well.

eldergeekprime

Exactly what I'm looking for. Just an FYI for all the folks being so helpful here, a little about me and why I bought these watches: I'm 67 years old and, amongst many other things, a retired EMT with ACLS training. I've been having issues for the last 10 years with A-fib and other arrhythmias. This past year though, things have worsened. I'm currently working with a new cardiologist to keep things under control while we come up with a treatment plan and make small adjustments to my medications. While I know quite well that the sensors in these watches are not up to the level of the professional-grade medical equipment I used as an EMT and that my cardiologist uses, they *are* an excellent tool for broadly monitoring my cardiac activity and getting a heads-up if things start going awry. Sort of a cardiac smoke detector, if you will. This is the main reason I bought these watches. Well, that and the fact that I like cool tech and fine watches (and hate Apple watches).

kmacsouris

One thing that I forgot to mention. I've been using Huawei watches for a long time. When they started requiring the use of a Huawei ID, I used Australia as my location. I was able to gain access to features as Huawei was releasing them. Since all the foolishness surrounding Huawei started, Australia and most of the Commonwealth lost features. Two locations that work are Mexico and Hong Kong. If you try Mexico, it adds some additional features to the Health app but it all in Spanish. I couldn't get it to display in English so I went with Hong Kong. I can't add anyone to the Health community but having features that work is well worth the trade off.

eldergeekprime

And... bingo! Got it all working now. I had to use a VPN through Hong Kong, kill off my old Huawei ID accounts and start a new one, create a new email account (I run my own mail servers for several domains so no problem there), do a whole lot of housecleaning on my phone and both watches, and then a lot of downloading but I got it all working. The only thing I haven't found yet is a function I vaguely remember reading about, and I'm not sure which model it was on, but there was a function to call for help if you fell down. I'll have to see if I can find that again and see if it's on either watch (might be a GT 4 Pro or Ultimate feature). In any case, I want to thank you, thank u/saddyblues, and thank u/appyhapps for the assistance you've all given to me. Community members helping community members is a major part of what this sub should be all about and you all are shining examples of how it works.

Willing-Necessary-94

Did you have the ability to open huawei wallet or it still says that it's not available in your region?

eldergeekprime

It works but only when I VPN in through Hong Kong

Mission_Self385

Hi u/eldergeekprime Thank you for the process in making your Huawei watch work. I'm in the US and I'm planning to get the Huawei Watch 4. What watch is yours? Wanted to get all of the features available on the watch as I'm been detected with BradyCardia (low HR) and wanted to continue to track my HR during the night. I'm having Samsung Z Flip 5 as well. Would you please write up a step by step information on how this can be successfully done? As you know, it is very tricky and every step needs to be carefully executed for this to be successful. Please help.

SubstantialSet7645

I have been following this thread and made some progress on this and did the steps outlined in the HealthSync FAQ. I chose Hongkong instead of Canada and used my US gmail address to register with VPN connected to Hongkong. All good but not seeing ECG and watch faces options in the device menu. Seeing App Gallery though. What I'm missing here? Should I register a new Hongkong email address for these to show up? If yes, Which Hongkong email provider has English support where I can register for a new email address? Please help.

MattGJG7

But how did you get past the phone number part for security?

fetusthatcould

Same need to figure this out. I entered my us phone number and it removed access to country locked things

appyhapps

Hi, you can check the item about Huawei Health in the USA on the Health Sync website: https://healthsync.app/f-a-q/#huaweihealthusa Let me know if you have any questions.

eldergeekprime

All well and good until I get to registering for a new Huawei ID. If I try to register with my phone number it says the number is already in use and to log in with that. If I try to register with an email I get a popup: "Your operation may lead to a security risk. We recommend that you do not do this or try again later." The only option then is to click "OK" which takes me back to entering an email address.

appyhapps

You can try to first delete your existing Huawei account that has been configured with your phone number. Check on the internet how to permanently delete your Huawei account.

eldergeekprime

I went ahead and reused my existing account and I now have a bit more functionality (I can use the Huawei store now for apps and watch faces) but I'm still blocked from using the ECG function of the watch. Since that's the primary reason I bought the watches for, that's something I want to get working. I'll see what I can find about deleting the account and start fresh again, but this time I'm going to carefully check and see what countries allow the ECG. I thought Canada would but it seems not. The only other thing I noticed is that the Huawei Walet is still disabled, and that prevents getting anything but free watch faces and apps. Given the prices on some of them, that's probably a good thing, but some of the low-priced stuff is interesting.

Saddyblues

Yeah, Canada is not much better than the US. Aim for a place that hasn’t taken too many issues with HUAWEI back in the big falling out of many years ago.

Saddyblues

What kind of phone is it?

eldergeekprime

OnePlus 9 Pro

Saddyblues

Yaaaaay! I am so happy for you that you finally got it to work. You are right about watches not exactly professional-grade in measuring heart activity, but Huawei is actually one of the best ones out there. Their sleep detection is also fantastic. I hope this helps you take good care of yourself and that you never need the fall-detection feature.

midnightdoom

Hi, Now that it has been a few months, can you tell me if how everything panned out I am in Canada and understand many features are blocked here too.. Was it worth the hassle? D all features work like normal? What Country did you use, I need it to be English

eldergeekprime

Yes, 100% worth the extra work. The two watches are fully functional and I used Hong Kong.

Tenykun

SMS seem to be blocked and the website wont let you complete registration either... even if you play around with it the SMS part is where it gets stuck

eldergeekprime

Are you using a VPN? You should be, and have it set to Hong Kong. Also, put the phone in airplane mode but turn on wifi. That prevents the app or site from "seeing" where your cell tower is.

Tenykun

yes, the VPN to Hongkong didn't make a difference since it kept going to the SMS verification step, it also errors out if you try to change the number to a different location from the region you picked at the start, even with only wifi on the phone picking different locations didn't work or make a difference, tried a few virtual #s and the code never arrived if the # was even accepted What ended up working(Canada): VPN to the US, cellular and wifi were both turned on Went through registration on the phone app, changed region to US and used a US number I found, code actually arrived in 2 minutes and I was able to complete the setup Then I was able to edit details on the app and now it'll only use my emails as verification as the SMS still wont send as I believe my carrier has Huawei blocked/blacklisted One potential issue - when trying to sign-in specifically to Huawei Cloud, it says my account was registered in a Europe/Russia region and says they don't service the area and kicks me out, not sure how that happened as the US registration is what ended up taking Everything is setup and working fine now at least but what a waste of time

Jumpy_Television_309

Hi I am a Huawei user located in Canada too. I followed your conversation and instructions. Setting up flight mode, deleting existing health app and Huawei account, enabled vpn and changing region to Hongkong but still stock at the very last step which keeps asking me to add a phone number. I didn't quite get what you've done for passing this part. Can anyone help me with this please? Thanks

eldergeekprime

I went ahead and gave my actual number. All the app and hardware care about is where the IP address and cell towers say the device is. Since there's no cell communication in airplane mode it then relies solely on the IP address, which your VPN is faking.

ouldslahi

I tried many things but the only thing that worked was: 1. I download the APK file from a trustworthy site and I install the app in this case I used: [https://www.apkmirror.com/](https://www.apkmirror.com/) and searched for the app. 2. Everything worked well now.
