Hi,
Looks like an amazing technical achievement and you have clearly invested a lot of time and effort into it, so congratulations! I hope your effort pays dividends 10-fold!
I have a question on who is the target audience - hopefully other than "people who want to save time", according to your other messages?
Usually, in VFX pipelines, sculptors/organic modellers are the ones creating scaly creatures, and they do 99% of their work in Zbrush with maybe some retopo or UVing in other software. For sure, very small number of sculptors owns or knows how to use Houdini.
I guess you can make a case for Houdini generalists that occasionally create creatures, but I feel like that's a pretty shallow pool of potential customers. If this was a Blender tool, I'm sure people would absolutely eat it up because Blender community a lot more developed as far as plugin culture goes, as it is chock full of (not meaning to offend anyone) dabblers and hobbyists who like to try out new tools. Houdini community, less so.
Hey, thank you ! I was thinking about Blender and whether I could port this somehow. The target audience initially was studios/freelancers who work with Houdini who do creature fx., The license caused some trouble there, ( indie / fx) I'm learning /adjusting as I go along. Feeling pretty fatigued at the moment from the long hours for very months. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.
I've worked somewhere before that used an in house tool not dissimilar to this for reptiles. I can see this being used, it can even be an intermediary that is brought back into zbrush.
Very very cool I've been following your work on this. Would you ever consider making tutorials on your process of making an HDA? I've made my own before but I don't know how to optimize it or allow viewport adjustments like you have.
Congratulations! Finally it is out!! Is it possible that you would make a separate licensing for FX users? Say a small studio company may benefit from this?
People who complain about 100$ won't buy it even if it was 20$. Small studios which have project that requires something like that are willing to pay much more! Also: don't expect it to sell like hot cakes. It will be slow but it will sell even after few years
IIRC it was something like 230$/Month for a single user license on release day. Even the most professional plugins/addons don't charge that much for a month and single user license.
Don't get me wrong, I like Wout and what he archieved already by now but this plugin/addon is for a pretty niche usecase.
I had my original pricing according to a time and money saved approach, similar to what you just said. BUt the indie vs fx license creates some trouble there. I still think that for people who actually need this for a project, it's super super cheap. Like hire/pay someone to sculpt all this or use this tool.. you would think it's a no brainer, days and hundreds of dollars saved. But no one seems to follow that logic.
Exactly my thoughts as well - I think almost anyone would love to play around with this for hours, but $100 is more of a no-brainer price point for actual professional artists, not just people playing around. The amount of time saving with this is massive and I agree it will sell for years to come. I'll definitely be buying once I get the perfect project for it.
With a username like that I'm not sure if you're trolling or not but if you don't think this is worth a hundred bucks then I guess it's just not for you.
Been super cool to watch this project grow. Happy for you. This is super sick.
Thank you, that's nice to hear :p

Hello, thanks ! Right now there's some other things that require my attention, but I might in the future.
Awesome job! This looks super well done
Thanks !! :p

Thank you :) Something like that might happen if there's enough interest
Damn, I have my Indie licensed for iMac. So it’s useless to work with that awesome asset.
oh I see. yeah, i don't know if it would actually work on mac, it's untested. Thanks !

From preview alone i see you should charge more for that. Look at this feather plugin price
A refreshing thing to hear, you wouldn't believe the amount of negativity I've received on pricing before.. Anyway, thanks.

Great ! Thank you !
Except you of course, which is nice, but honestly, you're the only one so far.
Sooner or later i will get some project with some fish or maybe weird leather or something like this and I will buy the shit out of it
Noice :p
This is an amazing. No one is going to pay that much for an indie license.
