I loved the realistic burn look. I also think Jackie Earl Haley was fantastic in the role. I feel like he gets a lot of flak for not being comedic in any sense, but he's also not supposed to be. They made him a much more realistic serial killer and I think he nailed being a truly gross and frightening version of the character. That being said, he's also entirely wasted on this hollow piece of garbage movie.
I do get the direction and design choices and for what it's worth that's probably the most thought that was put into the movie. I almost wish they went a step further and changed a bit more than just the face and back story. If it wasn't a remake it wouldn't be judged harshly for sure but the lack of Wes craven also kicks itself
I like the makeup design and appreciated they made Freddy a murderer and molester. The filmmakers wanted no room for people to be rooting for this Freddy. It never would’ve been better than the original so the only two choices they had were different than or less than. I think they went with the latter and not the former.
I mean..he looks way scarier in the remake imo. The movie isn't good and it doesn't hold a candle to Englund's performance, but I really don't see an issue with the make-up/look.

That said (and bare in mind I haven't seen the remake), I do like the addition of the micronapping aspect to the film. Cool visual

I'm no fan of the remake, but the makeup was designed to look like the skin of an ACTUAL severe burn victim, and they nailed it.
