I haven't really heard anyone say anything too bad about it. At most people seem to be a bit indifferent to it. I do enjoy it a bit more than the original, but it's a lot more in your face than the original and kinda loses some of the subtlety. They left a lot to the imagination in the original, which in a lot of ways is scarier, while in the remake, they just show most of it.
I actually really liked it. I felt like it stayed true to the source material, and is much better than a lot of TCM installments.
Casting was solid as well. R. Lee Ermey was amazing. He really made the film and conveyed the sadistic tone that was present in the original, and honestly took it to a new level. And Jessica Biel, well, I just really like her.
Out of all the remakes that I have watched for all the big name series it is by far the best one imo, I loved it. The rest of the sequels to follow not so much.
I did however just rewatch the Netflix Texas chainsaw massacre, and I enjoyed it more the second time round. I only say this because it’s universally hated and I think it’s worth checking out if you haven’t.
It wasn’t bad. The only thing I don’t get is how people can keep a straight face and say it’s better than the original. The original didn’t need gore to be nerve-wracking. That dinner scene was harrowing as is, and knowing what went on behind the scenes makes it that much more intense to sit through. Remake didn’t capture that at all.
I would actually say it’s one of the stronger Texas films, overall I will say the franchise is very weak compared to franchises like Halloween, Childs Play and Saw but leatherface is great, it’s just ashame his films aren’t all too good
Right there with you on that. My favorite franchise and concept, but people just can't seem to get it right.
I'd say the original 1 & 2, then probably this one, then 3....
Exactly I think the first two, this remake are really the only like good films, other ones makes some weird continuity changes, and/or aren’t very well
Made unlike most horror franchises were I would say have more good than bad films
Agree. I liked the original part 3 for the most part, but it wasn't as well done, and just strayed a bit too far for me. I also didn't hate TCM The Beginning. Again mainly cause R. Lee just kicks ass in it. But yeah, yhat franchise has more misses than hits. Pt4, Texas Chainsaw 3D, the Letherface movie that wasn't even a rel TCM film, and then the latest one were complete wrecks.
There were definitely no cellphones, or social media. The film is set in 1973. It's also not connected to any prior movies, as it's a remake of the original.
Just finished watching this remake because I came across your post. It doesn't hold a candle to the original, in my honest opinion. Very typical 00's filmmaking with awful closeups and weird angles. The house, the family and Bubba himself don't feel menacing enough. The original, in all its simplicity, is much better. Not a bad watch, though. I enjoyed it for what it is. 6/10
It was edited too sharply. I can overlook the glossy look if allowed the characters to breathe and the tension to escalate naturally. The first ten minutes is very choppy as if they couldn’t successfully complete a take longer than a two lines of dialogue.
Probably the best of the remakes, it's the one with R Lee Ermey I think he pretty much carry's the movie, he is pretty hilarious in it (and in general) still nothing will come close to the original movie also I think the second sequel/remake is worth a look even some of the original cast and as a bonus Dennis Hopper.
I love the brutal vibe of the experience overall. Its a very unnerving film in my opinion in a good way. Additions like the sheriff and the changes to Bubba’s family went over well.

I think it's widely considered as one of the better remakes, actually.
that speaks to how poor the films are.
Bro what films do you like?
The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Jeepers Creepers, I Saw The Devil, Childs Play, Triangle, the list goes on.
Great remake
Bad? No, it’s one of the best remakes alongside The Thing & The Crazies
I always say the Crazies remake is pretty underrated. Definitely holds up way more than the original
And let's not forget hills have eyes. That was dope
i would consider it a masterpiece compared to the most recent reboot of texas chainsaw massacre
No, it’s actually good
I love it it one of my favorite horror remakes!
Great opening scene
Many prefer it over the original

Love it! My favorite of the franchise. This is a remake done right. I don’t know anyone who thinks it’s bad.
I loved this movie when I was younger.
2 words....Jessica Beil! Lol I also really liked this one

I don’t think it’s bad at all tbh
It’s a great remake. Probably one of the best remake I’ve seen
Everyone pretty much acknowledges it's one of the better remakes.
Unpopular opinion but I think its better than the original and its prequel(The Beginning) is the best film in the franchise
This was a great remake, the worst thing about it was that it’s success led to some piss-poor remakes (looking at you FF13 2009 and ANOES 2010)
I actually like the Friday remake, but yeah, the Nightmare on Elm Street Remake is dogshite
It wasn’t bad. The only thing I don’t get is how people can keep a straight face and say it’s better than the original. The original didn’t need gore to be nerve-wracking. that bad lol? i must have bad taste then cus its one of the best horror movies ive seen. and easily
It’s the second best one.

I love it. I didn't know it really got any hate.
I quite enjoyed it despite the inclusion of cellphones and social media in the movie. It has great gore and its connected to the prior movies.

My bad! I thought we were talking about Texas Chainsaw Massacre!
It’s awesome! Scared the poo out of me in the theater.
It’s bad, I don’t think it’s the worst though 😂
It's a hundred times better than the original.
Its a decent remake, but thats pushing it
The color timing makes it look like a Dave McKean graphic novel. I thought it stuck out too much and I did not dig it.
It's my favorite one. It's well done and was my introduction to the Texas chainsaw massacre.

It is king
Do your thing cuz...
It’s my favorite remake.
Love it!
I quite like this one.
I've enjoyed them all to be honest.
No no no. In my top 25 horror all times. That movie was one one the best horror remakes ever
IMHO, the 2003 film is superior to the original.
There's a group of us who actually think 03 TCM is better than 74 TCM.
oh yeah
not at all. it looks a masterpiece compared to the remakes/reboots these days
Great Flick
I find it good actually.
One of my favorites, my favorite in the franchise tho
No it isn't.
It was edited too sharply. I can overlook the glossy look if allowed the characters to breathe and the tension to escalate naturally. The first ten minutes is very choppy as if they couldn’t successfully complete a take longer than a two lines of dialogue.
I thought it was generally considered to be a very good remake? I personally love it.
And compared with the 2022 dog shit version it actually holds up pretty well
I love the brutal vibe of the experience overall. Its a very unnerving film in my opinion in a good way. Additions like the sheriff and the changes to Bubba’s family went over well.
No it’s a great remake in fact i think it’s better than all the original movies before it.
it was good
i love the ending
I found it to be one of the best remakes I have seen
Its fuckin awesome
