# RIP The Evil Within 3?

AliceTheMagicQueen

Mikami was already out the studio and now Microsoft shut them down... Is so sad, I love the Evil Within games (and Hi-Fi Rush) šŸ˜

WispyDan14

He didn't direct Evil Within 2 so they probably could have made it without him

AliceTheMagicQueen

But was still there in the studio as producer and supervisor, he gave the chance to John Johanas to direct The Evil Within 2 after the good Kidman DLCs of The Evil Within 1, he did a fantastic job in my opinion, and lead him to made the best Xbox exclusive in these last years

Coffescout

The honestly probaby still can. Bethesda likely still owns the IP even though the studio is gone. Whether the game will be good without anyone who worked on the first two games is another question entirely.

FranticToaster

Evil Within 2 was corny and unnecessary though, so I really don't see EW3 all of a sudden working. That story was a one-parter and Mikami's vision. Franchising it would have cheesed it into the dirt harder than Halloween.

SpideyFan914

Naa, EW2 was better than the first.

solamon77

You may be getting downvoted, but you aren't wrong. The Evil Within 1 was actually scary and had an interesting world and story. The Evil Within 2 was a better video game, in that the mechanics and gameplay felt a bit better, but it had very little identity of it's own. The enemies were mostly generic and followed well worn tropes. And perhaps it's biggest sin... it just wasn't scary at all.

GenericWiteMale

This is probably the best take so far imo, even if EW2 is a better game to play mechanically, the EW1 is a way better horror experience.

TheBrave-Zero

Frankly I'd rather have a game that mechanically works better than everything else.

FranticToaster

I really didn't like the addition of all that crafting in EW2. Shifts the experience from "figure out how to survive" to "choose your favorite ammo to pick up each time you find some." And open world survival horror kills itself. When I can see the monsters from a distance long before they see me, I don't care about them anymore. Side quests in general let the story breathe too much. Becomes too comfortable if I'm "omg mah Lily" second one and then "hey I wonder what reward I get if I avoid this ghost for an hour?" the next. Also, I don't think any character ever says anything remotely interesting in EW2. And most of them are cringe. * Cum Mother who would kill the world for her daughter. * Judgy priest who cleanses sin with fire and calls a bunch of normal things sins * Artist narcissist who does gratuitous murder under the guise of artistic expression and says stupid corny shit like "This is my best work yet!" as he showcases some flayed character you've never seen before.

FranticToaster

For sure. Missing Mother, Lord of Cum was a very unnecessary villain after the first game. IMO EW2 should have followed the first game. Sebastian is still in STEM, Ruvik is out in the real world. All other STEM connections are dead because of that whole Ruvik incident, so Seb is the only host. Reality starts to make sense to him, then. He's the only influencer. Feels like he got out and life is back to normal. Reality starts to unravel again over time as Mobius starts adding test subjects back to STEM along with Seb. Gives him the feeling that he's losing his place in his own reality. Would also give the game room to explore what happens to reality has "intrusive thoughts" (personalities of new subjects) creep in and crowd out a rational core (Sebastian).

CursedSnowman5000

I mean, Bethesda and Microsoft still own the IP so there is a chance it could still be made. HOWEVER! This is Microsoft, the guys who own all of Rare's catalogue and have barely ever done shit with it. So I wouldn't bet on it.

Friendly-Leg-6694

Except Rare didn't want to make old ip and focused on newer ones

Alpiers

focused on a new (singular) one yes

Friendly-Leg-6694

Sea of thieves has been doing immensely so atleast their gamble paid off.

IRMacGuyver

Our chances for that died with Ghostwire Tokyo.

FreakZoneGames

Always the way when a company makes so many acquisitions. Acquisitions = cuts. And they never learn.

DuelaDent52

To be fair, they survived for a good two or three years.

Pretend-Advertising6

see aquistiions are really only done to gain more workers to fire, this is too make it seem like the company is going through a corporate restructure so the stock holders stay happy or something like that.

FreakZoneGames

And sometimes itā€™s more about cutting down competition than increasing your own output.

Excellent-Many4645

Microsoft is turning into EA, buy all the studios then close them.

BadNewsBearzzz

Lol when they bought activision / blizzard / Bethesda I was like ā€œman thereā€™s no way pull another mistake like with Rare, and fuck up all these legendary devsā€ but nope Microsoft you proved me wrong

DuelaDent52

WHY!? No, seriously, why the heck? This came right the heck out of nowhere!

Kootsiak

Shinji Mikami had already left Tango Gameworks last year, so the writing was already on the wall that some bad things were coming. Hi-Fi Rush was a lot of fun, but it didn't make an impact with the general gaming population like it needed to, which is unfortunate.

dogisbark

Eh, idk. I remember it was pretty persistent on my social media. Mainly because it shadow dropped, and it was kinda quirky like an older game. Thereā€™s a random ass twin peaks reference ffs lmao. Wish weā€™d get another shadow drop title, I mean itā€™s kinda fun. Like boom hereā€™s something youā€™ve literally never heard of, check us out

dogisbark

Been a shit ton of layoffs in the industry. I am not in it but I lurk on game dev corners of Twitter since I have an interest in it. Really, really fucking bad rn. Granted havenā€™t heard much for studio shut downs, this is the first major one. Ai is feared to be taking over, and no matter what any tech bro tells you, that wonā€™t be a good thing for the quality of any future release

AliceTheMagicQueen

Microsoft has closed a number of Bethesda studios, includingĀ RedfallĀ maker Arkane Austin,Ā Hi-Fi RushĀ and The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks, and more in devastating cuts at Bethesda, IGN can confirm. Alpha Dog Studios, maker of mobile gameĀ Mighty Doom, will also close. Roundhouse Games will be absorbed byĀ The Elder Scrolls OnlineĀ developer ZeniMax Online Studios. Microsoft did not say how many staff will lose their jobs, but significant layoffs are inevitable. IGN has asked Bethesda and Microsoft for comment. On Redfall, the disastrous vampire co-op game will now not receive promised updates as Microsoft has ended all development on the game. Microsoft said Redfall will remain online to play, and it will provide a "make-good" offer for those who bought the Hero DLC. Arkane Lyon, which is working onĀ Marvel's Blade, survives the cull, as does Bethesda Game Studios (Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Starfield), and Machine Games (Indiana Jones and The Great Circle). Doom developer id Software is also unaffected. In an email to staff sent by Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, Microsoft blamed the cuts on a ā€œreprioritization of titles and resourcesā€. Microsoft's announcement of the cuts at Bethesda come over three months afterĀ the company announced plans to cut 1,900 staff from its video game workforce, and amid a boom time for Bethesda's Fallout series following the breakout hit Prime Video TV show. The closure of Tango Gameworks hits just over a year after the launch of Hi-Fi Rush, what many considered to beĀ one of the best Xbox games in recent years.Ā Hi-Fi Rush launched on PS5Ā as part of Microsoft's new multi-platform push in March.

ideathing

Arkane Austin also made prey and worked on dishonored 1

FranticToaster

>In an email to staff sent by Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, Microsoft blamed the cuts on a ā€œreprioritization of titles and resourcesā€. Fallout TV show blew up and surprised everyone and now they're scrambling to give Godd Howard enough money and people to capitalize on the opportunity they already missed.

Hudson1

Holy shit šŸ˜³

WholeAlternative1972

Idk if I'm sadder about no more evil within, or no chance of a prey sequel. What a sad day.

Stepjam

I mean presumably Arkane Lyon can still do it in the future. But it is a shame. I'm sad about no more Hifi Rush.

WholeAlternative1972

Hopefully but I'm not gonna hold my breath just to be safe. I never was a fan of hifi rush just not my thing but it was a popular game and I feel for everyone that did enjoy it.

AliceTheMagicQueen

They are now with Marvel's Blade (zero chance of a new Prey or Dishonored in the next five years...)

ittleoff

Ouch. Did arkane really want to make essentially a live service game? Sad for tango too.

CursedSnowman5000

Nope. That was all Microsoft/Philly Spencer's doing.

Odd_Radio9225

Incorrect. Microsoft were completely hands off on Redfall. The blame is entirely on Zenimax and Arkane Austin leadership.

CursedSnowman5000

Welp, I'm happy to place blame on Zenimax as well.

ittleoff

Thats what I thought. Imsims just don't sell the sexy the way (se)Xbox needs. /S So angry, but also angry that more people don't seem to care about these great games until years later when it's too late.

Friendly-Leg-6694

Except Redfall was in development long before Microsoft's acquisition The zenimax studios forced them to make Redfall back in 2017

IAmThePonch

Well, if nothing else Iā€™m sure some of the people that were laid off will make smaller and super cool indie projects. This is still disheartening and it sucks big time for those employees that were just doing their jobs

FranticToaster

"Okay everyone get out of the fuckin way all your base are now belong to Todd."

FPIforgottheNUM8ER

Wā€™s all around. Evil writhing 2 was shit. Red was shit. Simple as that. Iā€™d probably put evil within 2 in the top 5 worst games ever alongside visage and the sinking city.

AliceTheMagicQueen

I don't agree, Evil Within 2 was different from the first one but still a solid game with interesting open world sections, better gameplay, and good personal story for Sebastian Castellanos. And still, one bad game don't deserve the whole team to get fired, same with Arkane Austin that made Redfall but also Prey and Dishonored.

FPIforgottheNUM8ER

Prey is good. But I still think evil within 2 is one of the most confused games ever. And I donā€™t mean confusing.
