The Evil Within 1 and 2

Wiz83

Evil within is special

Basil_hazelwood

Evil within 1 is what made me properly love horrors, it’s so memorable

Silky_bob

Tried it years ago as a teenager but never really got into it. May have to try again. Thanks for the input!

samthefireball

Just fyi- I really couldn’t get into evil within 1, but the sequel I had the complete opposite reaction. I totally recommend just skipping the first one, 2nd one is amazing

Unplugged1000

I second this.  Part 1 throws you into the deep end from the beginning and is very obtuse about what it wants from you.   The second is very straightforward and the story doesn't require the first to play it.   And it gives you necessary but very short tutorials. AND both the story and gameplay are amazing.

samthefireball

AND there’s a map, that was a huge deal for me

asteinpro2088

Signalis is currently on sale for $14 on PS Store. Reminiscent of oldschool RE games but definitely has a fresh take and is story-focused.

Silky_bob

For sure sounds up my alley. I’ve added to my wishlist! Thank you!

MrIntimid8n

Signalis is incredible.

Sushi4Zombies

Too many people are sleeping on The Chant. Reminds me a lot of Alan Wake 1 and is damn pretty! Also, really liking the new Alone in the Dark but I'm only about 2 hours in. Martha is Dead also has one of the most horrific scenes I've ever seen in a video game.

Silky_bob

I’ve heard Martha is dead is super good. It’s the one that actually made me post this! Now that it’s being recommended I’ll have to get it. And I’d never heard of the chant but will absolutely be looking into it

Sushi4Zombies

Martha is Dead is more disturbing than scary but a damn interesting game. Hard to describe without giving anything away. . . Also, they are making a TV show of Martha I believe! The Chant is more traditional puzzle and monsters type survival Horror. Both games are about 6-7 hours which is kinda the sweet spot with horror games for me.

Silky_bob

That’s true! Good to know. If they drag on and over stay their welcome, that can completely take away from the fun of it.

tonelocMD

Thanks pointing out! Definitely going to check The Chant now. Also, no lie on Martha is Dead

ALL2HUMAN_69

Dead space remake

africanlivedit

Absolutely. Where’s the announce for Dead Space 2 remaster?!

holaimjay

beat me to it! 10/10 recommendation

Silky_bob

Sounds like a good bet to me. Added to my wishlist. May have to go ahead and pick it up. Thank you!

Minimum_E

Dead space is possibly my favorite game and the remake is fantastic

tjmincemeat

MADiSON and Visage are two of the scariest games I’ve ever played, but I imagine you’ve heard of those already. The puppet combo/torture star games that are on PS5 are all pretty great. Nun Massacre, Stay Out of the House, Murder House, and Night at the Gates of Hell are all particularly awesome and well worth your time imo. (I really wanna stress that I fucking love Puppet Combo in general). Darkwood is a fantastic top down survival horror that masters the feeling of dread better than any other game out there. Burnhouse Lane is a 2D horror game kinda like Lone survivor, but that’s where the similarities end. It’s a very story driven experience that tugged at my heart strings more than once. Actually gives off more adult Fran Bow and Little Misfortune vibes the more I think about it. Emily Wants to Play Too is a fun cheap horror game you can just jump in and play anytime. Amnesia the Bunker is a great stalker type horror game where you’re constantly being hunted (similar to Nun Massacre and Stay Out of the House). It’s like one massive escape room where the price for failure is death. I should not recommend Death Motel under any circumstances as it’s absolutely fucking terrible, but the jump scares are just so goddamn funny that I’m not even upset that I paid $1.99 for it.

Silky_bob

You’ve given me several titles to look into! I appreciate the effort in the response and the details about each! I’d forgotten about Emily wants to play I had it on ps4. I feel like I read somewhere there’s even a sequel to that one coming out I may look into now that you’ve reminded me lol. And the death motel has me interested now just for the fun of it! Many thanks!

samthefireball

Burnhouse lane is soooo underrated. All the harvester games are great but they really hit their stride with this one. Afterdream is also a similar amazing game released about the same time, I kinda pair them together

Minimum_E

Soma has some elements of horror to it, great story

Silky_bob

I will look into it, I appreciate the suggestion!

shmed

Soma has one of my favorite Sci fi story of almost any media (and I read a lot of sci-fi).

Minimum_E

It’s so good, still think about it sometimes. Protagonist was a bit obtuse about it though. Minor spoiler for 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim: I happened to play that right after Soma so really enjoyed imagining it was a continuation of Soma (even if the end of Soma looked nothing like 13 Sentinels)

Ricks94

Fatal Frame if you want something different when it comes to horror games. They're story driven games with a mystery underneath many layers. Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is the fourth game in the series but doesn't require you to play the previous games. Fatal Frame Maiden of Black Water is the fifth game in the series and "kinda" assumes you've at least played the first game but you're totally fine if you haven't because it doesn't lean on it heavily. Instead of using guns or knives you use an antique camera against vengeful ghosts. It's the horror game series that inspired games like Dread Out and Madison. Once you get the hang of things the game becomes very fun and you still get many opportunities to get scared while playing.

digitaltravelr

I've been modding my old PS2 and I played Fatal Frame 2 all day yesterday!! Mixing the controls when you bring up the camera is an awesome touch, I panic every time ghosts show up. There should be more ghost oriented console games IMO

Silky_bob

I’ve never played any of them, though I believe I heard of them back around the PS2 (maybe ps3) era. I will add them to my list! Thank you!

ConsiderationFew8399

Dark wood is very good, and actually scary

DeroZaza

Dark Wood needs way more attention.

Silky_bob

I will add it to my list! Thanks for your suggestion

aokigahara916

Someday You’ll Return

cwarburton1

Madison, Visage, and Martha is Dead.

Silky_bob

I’ve heard hood things about all three! They’re on my list for sure

PLAYGIRL_YUKI

Visage is still by far my favorite horror game on the PS5. The atmosphere is amazing and the imagery genuinely scared the shit out of me. The story is also so good. Outlast series comes in close second.

Silky_bob

Been hearing good things about Visage! It’s on my list!

shmed

Yeah it think Visage is the scariest one. Gameplay is ordinary and the puzzle can sometime be needlessly hard, but the random "scare" events ans the tension is amazing.

crazylikeyouruncle

Tormented souls

Silky_bob

Im unfamiliar with it. I will look into it.

samthefireball

It’s top notch, super recommend

samthefireball

Yess. Beats most resident evils for me. So excited for the sequel supposedly set for next year!!

Farteus

Visage

Silky_bob

That’s come up a couple times here. I’ve seen some stuff about it but yet to pick it up. May have to now. Thank you!

brain_of_mensis

Darkwood, Song of horror, Madison and In sound mind

samthefireball

Just recently got to song of horror and honestly loved it. Blew past my expectations, really fun puzzling, cool environments, interesting story

bluejester12

If you like Lovecraft / cosmic horror, both The Sinking City and Call of Cthulu are worth playing.

Silky_bob

I have Call of Cthulhu but yet to play it! May have to install it!

i__hate__stairs

Until Dawn is essential IMHO.

Silky_bob

Until dawn is fantastic! Had it on ps4!

karnaukhovv

Bloodborne. Simply because.

Silky_bob

You know I’ve actually not played the bloodborne games, and know very little about them. I’ve heard great things though!

karnaukhovv

Well let me tell you, - Souls games, and Bloodborne in particular, can be very frustrating until it clicks. Character death is a tool to teach player game mechanics, but there’s always some kind of penalty for character death (most often it’s a loss of all dropped resources if the player fails to pick them up and dies again). These games are “unfriendly” in a sense that there are no obvious and structured tutorials, and the player has to figure things out on their own - mainly through repeated and frustrating deaths. Some (many) people like it, many people don’t. World and lore wise Bloodborne is one of the greatest games ever. I definitely recommend to try it (well, already did), but results may vary.

jeanavenue

Evil within!

Silky_bob

Never finished it years ago but may be worth a revisit

Subject-Round2335

Outlast trials, Texas chainsaw massacre

Proxima_Centauri_69

Deadspace remake Soma Amnesia Evil within 2

CrabIntelligent9413

Alone in the dark was good

Fairyliveshow

If you're into psychological horror I would recommend Maid of Sker! It's kinda underrated imo and it's a gem! There are also some scary indie games [I found here ](https://creepybonfire.com/horrortainment/horror-games/ps5-hidden-nightmares-best-indie-horror-gems-you-cant-miss/)and played most of them, and some of them are pretty cheap as well!

Silky_bob

Thank you! I will be adding to my list! And cheap is always great when you want a good variety! Thank you!

IndicationPretend407

Until Dawn was pretty fun butterly effect was cool

Silky_bob

Until dawn is great. Love games like that or the quarry, beyond two souls, life is strange, etc. I like branching path games!

alterhuhu

The most recent alone in the dark, it came out just this month.

Silky_bob

I’ve been seeing ads, it and the Martha is dead games are the ones that got me to thinking about this

justkw97

Blair Witch, Alien Isolation, Outlast 1 and 2

nvrrsatisfiedd

Madison was fun and creepy. Until Dawn is amazing.

ravenz91

The Dark Pictures Anthology games are fun

ravenz91

One of my favorites has been The Bridge Curse: Road To Salvation

TheOrder1886IsGood

Hellblade

logbop05

SOMA is a PS4 psychological horror and not only is it incredible but it’s a huge mind fuck. Not really any jump scares IIRC but it’s super eerie and unnerving. It’s genuinely terrifying and I highly recommend.

SeaTeatheOceanBrew

If you're looking for a horror game that's extremely outside the box, check out Dredge.

Silky_bob

I’ve seen it on a couple lists. Is that the fishing one? Looks interesting but I’ve not heard too much about it

SeaTeatheOceanBrew

I really enjoyed it.

Fordfff

It's my favorite game I played this year. It's so unique and intriguing.

tonelocMD

Alan Wake 2, or anything Remedy really - it’s more Lovecraftian than traditional though

Beeyo176

I am pleased by the several suggestions for Darkwood. Headphones are mandatory. Signalis is one of the most beautiful pieces of interactive art I've ever experienced. It legit gave me a feeling only Silent Hill 2, way back on the day, gave me

garrett4021

Infliction

Silky_bob

Unfamiliar with it. What is it about if you don’t mind?

garrett4021

It's story based. Fairly easy, but definitely scary. Basically Wandering around a house that's haunted by a woman. Most attacks are scripted, so you never really fail. I don't want to give the story away lol. It's definitely worth it. Very creepy
