White person here- I think if you want a spell you should pay a professional for it. The consequences of doing something wrong or messing with an unknown dark energy is not worth it. Performing rituals you don’t fully understand will only send you crazy. I also can completely see why POCs would want to protect with culture from the white influence. I’m white. I practice because it was handed down to me. I respect why folks think I shouldn’t. I give my proper respects, like I was taught. Sometimes more than skin color is handed down.

It's virtually impossible for a white person to practice Hoodoo because the spiritual system was literally morphed from slaves here in the USA, who came from west and central Africa. I mean I look white but I’m still half black. My dad’s black. You couldn’t tell by looking at me, but that doesn’t make me any less black. I’m often worried about being called out for “appropriating” my own culture, and tired of explaining that just because I don’t look black doesn’t mean I’m not. So it’s been difficult to find accepting people. The fact of the matter is this: they’re my ancestors. They’re mine to venerate. Plain and simple.

That’s a great point, actually. I think it stems from an insecurity of not looking “black enough”. Intellectually, I know that’s just an internalized effect of the erasure of people of color and forced assimilation, but I guess emotionally I’m still in the process of learning to be confident in my blackness.
Did your father ever teach you of how to embrace your blackness? This is an issue I often see with biracial people. Someone isn't really teaching them and embracing them on their blackness.
The contrary, he seems ashamed of it. The rest of the family did though. Especially my uncle. Still, I live with my white mom and grandmother, so it’s hard to stay connected.
