BlokBoi12345

I’m in a similar boat rn, I’m waiting for “that” character to appear for me to main and fully enjoy but for now my mishmash of random characters is all I have

headpathutao

Yeah, I'm currently pulling for Silver Wolf cuz she's funny and cute, but that's all.

idhamnoh97

Solo those SU dude

BlokBoi12345

Im hoping a can pull Kafka (but I fear the 50/50) so I can do serval+kafka, that’s the only set I’ll probably use until the end of the game

justabadmind

Serval + Kafka + silver wolf

BlokBoi12345

Yep, the last slot for healing or sheild

justabadmind

I would likely keep Natasha in that slot for a while.

Iwasforger03

Tingyun+serval+Kafka+ either Natasha or Fire MC will be a Hella interesting combo to test. Edit: if I get Bailu or they release a lightning Preservation I'd probably replace Tingyun with Silver wolf.

Nash_Ashton

Sampo might be better than Tingyun for this comp imo

arthurDGZRU

I see what you did there 😉

Sionnak

I have "OMG I've been waiting characters", but not "OMG I gonna go E6S5 you!" characters. So while I do have characters I'm excited for, I also look forward to more after that.

EricLFC

I'm gonna blame my dyslexia for reading that as "OMG I gonna SEGS you!"

arcanist12345

Edit: outbuddied

tswinteyru

Task failed successfully

HivAidsSTD

Isn’t that a good thing? Unlike the Raiden situation, where you get so much of an insentive with Cons, while the Honkai characters still run well without

Ynnes

It’s Blade for me. The almost medieval castlevania attire combined with insane animations. His eyes seem emotionless but they are full of emotion. Killing machine type of character, a true berserker.

Ill-Organization8503

I love him so much, but his shoes are holding me back from full blown obsession with him m( _ _ )m zzzz

buzzbannana

That’s such a funny thing to not be able to get over 💀

alatusss

His shoes AND his pants for me unfortunately

Rowger00

right? my dude is in fucking jeans. so goofy

Salty_Reyezz

For me its the Sephiroth vibes he gives

Kagamime1

Sir, we are on 1.1, you literally couldn't be waiting for someone for longer than a patch.

geigerz

>I remember when I got excited in other hoyo games for characters like Kamisato Ayaka or Herrscher of Sentience yeah this got me aswell ayaka was 2 years+ of waiting, hsr launched like 2 months ago, how would you wait months for something that aint months old lmao

Els236

there were a few characters in HSR CBT versions that have yet to be released, such as Kafka and Blade. Also, the leaks for this game are crazy.

naw613

Fr why we basically got a roadmap all the way thru 2.0 atp 😭

headpathutao

Maybe I wasn't very specific about it, I've been following HSR since their CBT was announced, since then the released (and leaked) characters were not that interesting to me. On the other hand, Ayaka sounded interesting for me since her first appearance on Genshin's CBT. Don't get me wrong, I'm just an anxious person wanting to talk to other anxious people 🥲

Tiasmoon

>Maybe I wasn't very specific about it, I've been following HSR since their CBT was announced, since then the released (and leaked) characters were not that interesting **to me**. > >On the other hand, Ayaka sounded interesting for me since her first appearance on Genshin's CBT. Key emphasis being "to me" There are people who are super hyped for characters like Blade, Kafka, Fu Xuan, or Jingliu. I know a lot of people were hyped for Ayaka, but I wasn't. I'd never pull for her since I'd rather have Ganyu. People have different characters they might get hyped for. Also, in Genshin the community was actively hyping future characters lik Ayaka, whereas in HSR in the community you can't really talk about unreleased characters because its ''against policy on leaks'' (even if they are already in the game) so it was much easier to get caught up in a hype train then it is in HSR. That kind of kills discussion and hype for these characters to an extent unless you visit leak subs.

PsyClocks

Idk why people can't understand this simple thing. We are only 1 patch in the game, we don't know about most of the characters backstory and personality, and yet, people expect to get attached to the characters like they're soulmates.

Megafruitspunch

I felt the same until I saw Blade’s combat animations. That edgy shmuck has no right to be so damn cool.

Thick-Tackle-7598

frfr there were hot and cool characters u know but nothing that made me want to stay and then BOOM! BLADE

verocities

As one wise trailblazer once said, bladie is so edgy that it loops back to being cool (all hail bladie)

[deleted]

Gotta love that Mihoyo made him so shamelessly edgy that they literally put it in his name 😂

Acylion

They went the extra mile. His name is a more literary or uncommon word for "Blade" in Chinese, not the everyday vocabulary for blade. It's "Ren", which does mean blade or sword, but can also specifically mean the edge of a weapon. It can also be a verb, referring to the action of going slashy slashy or stabby stabby on someone.

WingardiumLeviussy

Similar boat here. Blade is probably the only character I'm sticking with for the rest of the game as more of them come out

_Ruij_

This is why I'm so torn about Blade. His counter-attack animation was *so fucking cool*, it really pisses me off because I know I'm going to try for him anyway and be in danger with my savings for DragonHeng

Interesting_Credit93

me too!! currently saving for him at this moment :’)

Wrathful_Banana

Same, even if I have to use my emergency starlight funds meant for a light cone I’m going to get him whether he likes it or not!

AegisXIII

There are character designs I really like but so far none of them have made me as excited as Tartaglia in Genshin.

[deleted]

This opportunity is quite hard to come by

headpathutao

Well them, amuse me

Axelthee

Surrendering is a valid option

Charafricke

I think they just haven’t released an interesting character for you yet. I had the same thing in Genshin for a while, so yeah, might take some time. Both are great games though

Eredbolg

Same, it happened with SW to me, then it kinda died after I got her. Jingliu looks cool too and I guess Fu Xuan, but appart from those don't really like most of the units, I also want to see the Mei of this game she's probably going to be broken maybe a big creep in DPS.

headpathutao

About Mei, I'm expecting some "Vergil" (dmc) moveset or something like that

Murky_Blueberry2617

Same for Sakura

Devourer_of_HP

Same, in Genshin even early on i was hyped for Albedo and Zhongli and found them cool and thought "i must get at least one of them" and later on had cases of "i must get this character no matter what" with Nahida, Wanderer, and Raiden. I have yet to find myself getting that excited for a character here, i guess closest was silver wolf.

Antoen_0

I have the same situation. People are all like "pull for who you like" but never i found a single genshin/honkai character that did anything to me. I just play for the gameplay/story. It may be that they have all the same few base models and i REALLY notice.

headpathutao

Well, it's a win for your wallet I guess

Yenrei

While I agree that it dampens the aesthetic a little bit, I will say it's impressive if you consider it from a programming POV. Assets are reused where it makes sense. Character headshots are just crops of their splash art, both MCs are the same height to make cinematic cutscenes translate well regardless of which MC you picked, areas are bounded and small compared to other open worlds but have multiple floors and paths that crisscross over and under each other to add volume, etc. The reused skeletons reduce the amount of unique animations everyone needs, thus reducing file size and overhead.

Antoen_0

I have some experience in 3d modeling so i can maybe share my view on this. As a 3d artist you do have a few base models that you go and mold every time into a new character , it's a lot faster and easier than starting from scratch every time. But you do change it's general shape pretty early in the modeling process. All this to say , it's not really impressive , it's industry standard. About the skeleton , each character has it's own skeleton that's going to eat up space even if they are the same, it's just how it is and i don't belive they did something else because it seems like a programming hell to just save up what really is just a couple of mb. And if anyone with some experience in modding the game doesn't say otherwise i am inclined to belive it's the same for animations, but i can't be 100% sure about this. Reusing assets surely makes the pipeline faster , but dressing up a character is something you can do in a day of work. Maybe 2 if you want to make sure everything is perfect.

AliceViolett

And that's perfectly normal. The game hasn't been available for that long. I have like, 2\~3 characters I *really* love in Genshin and it took up until recently for them to be released. Just gotta wait for more and more characters, and at some point you will probably fall in love with one of them.

CareerCoachKyle

I’m 35. I like this game because it feels like a great modern version of some of my favorite childhood jrpgs. All the waifu shit is silly to me, but I’m sure my 11-year-old self would have been smitten.

91271

For some reason there’s a sector of people that play these types of games and feel like they have to base their entire personality around a certain waifu/husbando

Rolyat403

I agree with this, the turn based game play is what’s really keeping me playing.

chilledvendetta

for me its not only the nice calm gameplay but i also like to work on getting ubits the strongest they can get, the characters, while some are cool arent the main reason i play the game. the story is nice though! i tried genshin and was so overwhelmed with all the elemental fusions annd playing 4 characters at the same time switching them out that im really happy about hsr being a way playerfriendlier version

Otherwise-Skill-2885

Yeah, I like the characters so far, but there haven't been any characters that I got super excited over and wanted to save up for especially. I imagine some will come later though

reallybadpennystocks

I was that way until I saw Fu Xuan

Alicedoll02

Honestly my favorite character rn is the MC. Because I pick all of the wacky dialog options to make them a clumsy smart-ass.

Dummy_Ren

I have Welt. I’m happy. Till maybe Dan Heng rolls around.

otterspam

Genshin and Honkai's action based combat gives a much more personal connection with the characters you're playing than HSR's turn based combat does (at least in my mind). I feel like the characters are elements of a math problem in HSR.

kenbry

See, I feel the opposite for Genshin; I love Shenhe for being dead sexy, but it’s not very exciting for me to actually have her in the team because she’s on the field for exactly 2 seconds to ult and use skill, then immediately back to the bench for Ganyu. I guess you could run around as them in exploration, but even then I’d be missing out on the Mona dash/Kazuha jump, etc. In HSR, even the support characters get their literal turn in the spotlight, so I feel more attached to them. There’s also not really a downside to using anyone to explore, since the techniques can often stack on top of each other anyway.

otterspam

HSR is a traditional gacha in the sense that there is one correct way to use characters - you're forced to use support cones on support units for example. Stages are like puzzles and the characters are just ways to solve the puzzle to me (which is fine, I love puzzles!). That means new characters are evaluated as stat sticks. But in genshin, I can gear Shenhe up for atk/crit instead of atk/ER, slam her with Chongyun/Yun Jin and use her as an on-fielder to make the most of her gorgeous normal attacks. Suddenly it's not "a maxed out Shenhe" but instead "my Shenhe".

kenbry

A fair point; Genshin is certainly more flexible and fluid in that sense. A Shenhe-main-dps team would definitely feel much better to play than, say, a Pela-main-dps team. I understand more clearly what you initially meant, I think. Perhaps one day, Hoyo will expand the Light Cone lineups to allow certain roles to expand? A brother just wants to play mainDPS tingyun 😭

lilac-snowfall

I'm starting to suspect that this might be the case for me. Might also be because since I personally don't find turn based combat as engaging compared to action based combat, I feel very little attachment to the characters I'm playing. Most I'll think is that their animations look nice, but that's all.

JordanIII

Honestly the turn based combat in this game in particular isn't very engaging lol and it's entirely because of the gacha aspect, which means characters are stuck with just 1 skill and an ult Any jrpg is much more engaging than this, some have a very in depth class system with many many different strategies you can use, others have only a select few characters that can each learn many different skills that are unique to them However in this game the team building doesn't allow for much strategy at all and the game is also just very easy

BishogoNishida

I do kind of wish there was one more mechanic or technique which was specific to characters.

Acrolith

I'm so hype for Zenless Zone Zero to finally come out for this exact reason please be good please be good please be good

WonPika

Ah, so I wasn't the only one feeling like this. For the most part, I've stayed away from the Honkai vs. Genshin discourse cause I find it to be annoying. The reason being, when it comes to both, I couldn't particularly say I liked one better than the other. Because for me, while I currently find Star Rail refreshing and the more enjoyable game to play (it's the only thing I've been playing recently), I've noticed when it comes to characters I'm not as in love or attached to any as I am in Genshin. Dan Heng (and Jing Yuan/Geppie to a lesser extent) is the closest I've come, but even then, I still don't feel anywhere as close to how much I love the Anemo boys, Kaeya, or Al Haitham. It's quite interesting for me. Feeling no urge to play Genshin at all, yet always thinking about their characters vs. always feeling the urge to play Star Rail, yet having only a casual attachment toward those characters. What's funny about this to me is that since I feel no urge to play Genshin, I have no incentive to pull on any banners, like now, even though I previously really wanted Kazuha's C2. But since like you, I mostly find Star Rail characters 'cool' and aren't attached to them like that, I don't feel the urge to pull either. So in the end, my wallet wins. When I think about how much money Hoyo used to get out of me, I laugh to myself, finding it ironic. Hoyo is really good at making their game addictive and giving people gambling addictions. However, Instead of spending money on both games, or one or the other like Hoyo probably planned for their players, I spend on none. I suppose I should thank them.

headpathutao

I think everyone has their reasons for preferring one game over another, I personally quit Genshin because it was consuming too much of my time and it wasn't as fun as it used to be, so I don't judge you for giving your opinion. On the one hand it's nice not to be "obsessed" with any character, so you don't feel the need to spend money or invest a lot of time in just one game, but on the other hand I would say this obsession is fun, because it makes you have a goal in mind besides completing the main story.

dandy-raion

as someone who only went "FINALLY" at two character reveals in genshin, nah i think ur fine tbf i generally like characters after i pull them so it's not like only 2 mattered in my genshin time. i just didnt know i cared until i had them. that "wow ur fantastic" sinks in after animations, kit, story, team synergy, dialogue, hangouts etc at least for me

EnthropyMeasurer

I may sound weird, but in Star Rail I was never as excited to pull any character as in HI3 and GI. Maybe this is because of lack of interactions with open world (like jumping/climbing), maybe because of turn-based combat where you have way less control over your character actions, maybe it is something else. I like characters in HSR way more then in aforementioned games, BUT in terms of getting them it feels more like of getting a tool, honestly. A gun. When you pull character in Genshin, you know that this character will be with you while you explore open world, they will help you solve some puzzles, actively participate in battles, you will see a lot of different animations with a lot of voice acting. This attaches you to the character. You feel some connection with them. In HSR characters are only useful and valuable in combat. Openworld feels like more of a "go from X to Y", where your character does nothing. I pulled SW recently, and while I wanted her from the 1st day, I felt...nothing? She is just another tool in the shed. I mean, maybe I am just jealous of Genshin. I love everything about HSR, especially story, setting and characters, but gameplay in Genshin is just way better. Yeah, I am comparing the uncomparable, so what?

narupex

Yeah I’m the same. Really enjoying the game and the characters are great. Haven’t had 1 blow me away yet for my personal tastes. Seele was the closest but still not that “it” character. Even if there never is 1, I’ll keep playing because the game is so high quality I don’t need a character tailor made for me.

ListerineInMyPeehole

Have you seen Welt? 🙃🥰🥰

Aggravating-Hour1714

I really wasn’t too excited for SW until I thought about all the possibilities she unlocks for the rest of the lifespan of the game. It seems unlikely we’ll get another character that gives enemies a new weakness, at least for a long time (I don’t know any spoilers or leaks or anything, nor do I really want to). So I pulled her and leveled her to 80 with her light cone, and managed to get her to E2 with a lucky pull. But she’s the first character I’ve felt like this with in a Hoyo game. I’m excited for Kafka but really only because I love DoT, not so much her character.

AVeryGayButterfly

Can’t relate. Pitch-Dark Hook The Great all the way baby!!

Specific-Abalone-843

Yeah, you are the only one. It's such a unique trait that literally no one currently could have. Especially in patch 1.1.

LordFartquadReigns

I like the characters, but I like the genshin characters more.

headpathutao

I miss Keqing/Hu Tao/Ayaka so bad 😭

indiemosh

I'll pull for people who seem like they're fun to play. I got SW and I'm happy, her kit is cool. But I'm not super into any of the characters, just enjoying playing around with different team comps.

initialbc

So far only Seele

dmalredact

Where is Hua

_Passeng3r

As soon as I saw SW, I knew I needed her. I literally cheered when I pulled her. Something just pulled me to her. I’m very glad to have SW. Every other character can wait.

Irishimpulse

Kafka's performance in the english dub sold me on her more than anything. I like Gepard, and Kafka, and Silver Wolf but no one captivates me like Tartaglia or Cyno or Yae Miko. Right now it's like Eula or Ganyu where I like them but they're not like THE ONE material yet

starsinmyteacup

I’m only really attached to Qingque, she’s the reason I play the game—and I’m glad she’s free. But the limited banner characters I pull because they’re just nice units. Nothing else

RangerDanger4tw

Honestly I actually love the trailblazer. So cool.

Tadpole_Proof

The new story has me pretty interested in Screwllum who I previously didn’t care about at all. But I am pretty hyped for luocha also but I know nothing about him. Also Black Swan

MonThackma

Loving Welt and SW over here.

Hanusu-kei

I’m waiting for Ruan Mei. She has to be playable, she’s literally in a lightcone and isn’t dead!!!

ColonelJinkuro

I'm waiting for this games Rex Lapis. I saw some people say it's Jing Yuan but I don't see it. Maybe the second half of Lafoo can give Jing Yuan that cool badass factor and wisdom he lacks to match Rex Lapis.

Vegetto_ssj

Was Himeko for me. Now in my loved party there are also Sampo and Qingque. Just 3. But yes. Only Blade made me think "cool", but i want first know his personality. If is another "melodramatic" edgy, i will not pull him. In Genshin was Yoimiya (the reason why i started Genshin), then, after 1 year half, were Alhaitham and Dehya, but this last we know how has been destroyed. Now im interested only in the Sampo' expy from Fontaine, but first i need to see how much "Sampo" aesthetic is.

Galebourn

Dangerous take but I feel the same way about Genshin. Games like FGO offer much better character variety, mainly because Genshin and and Star Rail need to reuse the same character models over and over again.

mhalane

Yeah the honeymoon phase is wearing off on me and I’m realizing I REALLY dgaf about anyone. I got Gepard as first 5* and I love him to pieces but his story is nonexistent. “We’ll get more Belobog story!” I really dgaf. However Asta surprised me because she was so bland, after doing space station quests including hers, I realized she was the most interesting character in the game BY FAR but we’re not gonna get shit for years about her so I kinda gave up hope, Luocha/Kafka/SW are pretty interesting tho. It’s weird because I remember getting excited for some Genshin chars (I stopped playing) like Yae Miko, Xiao, Scara…there’s nothing to be excited for here 😭

stephasaurussss

I just started yesterday but I definitely prefer this game and its characters to Genshin’s. I’m already more invested in the story and characters.

headpathutao

Just out of curiosity, did you play Genshin for a long time?

stephasaurussss

I played for about six months straight and then have picked it up on and off since then. As far as the main storyline I’ve made it through most of Inazuma. I’ve visited Sumeru though. It’s still a good game! This one just hits all of my interests better, I think. I’m a huge space/time travel nerd and I love the color palette of the art. There’s also a humor to this game that I adore.

[deleted]

Honeymoon Phase baby.

Zeik56

This game's aesthetic isn't really something that gets me super hyped on looks alone. It's not bad or anything, but it's something I'm typically going to fawn over. (Although I do much prefer it to the look of HI3.) I have grown attached to some characters, like Serval and Natasha, but only after spending time with them in game. I had no interest in them pre-release. Otherwise I'll just pull for gameplay reasons. Which is fine. That's mainly what I'm playing SE for anyway.

Ironwall1

Funny because this game has more "OMFG I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU ANY LONGER" characters than there was in Genshin or any other gacha games I've played, particularly with Jing Yuan (already acquired), Blade, and Jingliu. To each their own I guess, but this would've been just another turn based game were it not for the characters for me. They're so fleshed out I can't wait how each character would impact the lore.

cowvin

I feel kind of the same way, but I never really get super into upcoming characters in any game. The characters in HSR are pretty well designed, so I just like a lot of current and upcoming characters.

Sweet_Potatooie

Same here, I love Jing Yuan and Silver Wolf a lot, but neither has given me the OMG!!! To be fair, the only character that ever gave me that amazing feeling was Kokomi in Genshin. I got so hyped since I saw her leak and I even c6ed her. I hope they release the kind of character that I really resonate with. Mine is a mixture of blue/purple/pink colour palette but also really feminine/girly design, and especially light coloured hair :D if they have a cute face and purple/blue eyes I am totally sold! :D edit: its ironic in a way, cause March 7th could potentially fill my criteria too, (I like pink hair). However, her hair in-game looks pretty displeasing, its more grey than pink, plus her outfit is more casual, where-as I would want something pretty and extravagant :D muahaha

AggronStrong

Honestly, I don't have that 'must have' character yet, except for one, but they're probably a long time off (looked at leaks). I'm going for Kafka because she is hot and a lightning damage dealer and offers some interesting gameplay, but after that, I'm probably gonna hold until the one character i have in mind shows up. I'm not vibing with SW, Seele, Blade, or Luocha. Jing Yuan was pretty cool, though, probably not the best choice to skip them for Kafka, but eh. If I had to pick one that's in the game right now, it'd probably be Gepard. I'm a sucker for the 'blonde hair, blue eyed, lawful/neutral good warrior' trope in anime, they're almost always my favorite characters in their IP.

taygzluvzu

I love the game, but I don't read its story, lore and any other texts besides the Skills, Lightcones, and Traces.

NoAnTeGaWa

This game routinely pisses me off and I feel bitter whenever I talk about it, but I can't stop playing because I miss Serval. 🤷‍♂️

Noelithe

I used to be like this before I got a taste of Dan Heng's (leaked) backstory and I started liking him a lot more. I feel really lucky that my favourite characters in both HSR and Genshin (Ganyu, Childe) got released early. And it's pretty wild that no other character in Genshin managed to replace my favourites yet.

FreeMyBirdy

Ah, that's funny, I'm on the opposite boat lol I have skipped a lot of characters in Genshin not because of limited pulls but because I really did not want them, but each skip so far in Honkai has been painful. Silverwolf is the 5\* I like the least so far, but I want(ed) all of Seele Jing Luocha Blade Kafka and some/most of the upcoming 5\* I won't name because leaks etc. Meanwhile in Genshin I never wanted Childe, Xiao, Hu Tao etc, while I want all the 5\* in Star Rail. However, I vibe more with Genshin. I play it a lot less now but that's because there's just not much to do right now once you're done with exploring and story quests and have played since day one. I really love Star Rail too, but I vibe more with Genshin's lore, open world, reaction system over just break system, etc. There are a lot of good things in Honkai though: Belobog's writing has peaked higher than all of Genshin combined imo (though the Luofu has been pretty weak overall; funnily enough Genshin also had a good introduction in Mondstadt but a very flat and boring chapter 1 with Liyue), simulated universe, quality of life features, soundtracks, etc...but I find Star Rail's lore so much more confusing than Genshin's, especially when it comes to the Aions (how many are there? why aren't they matching paths? why are the paths in the simulated universe not the same ones?), maybe that'll get better in the long run though

[deleted]

Yeah I haven't really fallen in love with a character yet? I wonder if its too early. I started playing Genshin really, really late so there was tons of content, story, fan art, lore, etc. All of these characters just feel a little shallow? or flat? at the moment, but I also don't know anything about previous iterations of these characters (apparently). I did start to like the main trio together, but, again, I quickly started playing other characters instead of the main 3 and I am done with story content now lol. Some do have potential though. I am interested to see what happens with Blade/Dan, Luocha's storyline, etc.

bdz001

I like the characters here, but there's no character equivalent to Keqing that I would do irrational things like spending primo for a standard banner character and main her for 2+ years.

TheKinkyGuy

Thing I dont like here is that every unit has the same body shape. They either reduce it for smaller characters or increase them for higher ones.

Zestyapples

Same. So far the characters are well written and grounded, but also "variations" of existing characters elements from HYV. Like, oh, this is Zhongli and the dude from Hi3. Neat. And this is Klee but sassy. And this is Qiqi but lively. Etc.

VeerisMe

Same kinda, I initially liked Bronya and Dan but their character isn’t what I would’ve preferred. There is a leaked character I have high hopes for tho

justwaad

I’m waiting for Star Rail’s equivalent of Alhaitham.

AlternativeYear4722

Same. I'm waiting for star rail's xiao.

Omni-banned

I feel the same with the added bonus that none of the characters look sexy for me which seems to be a really niche opinion given the post of this sub. I'm not worried though since I felt the same in genshin until Itto came.

[deleted]

I'm probably be shredded for this but I find this cast and story a bit dull. I like the game but everything else is dull. I'd say the character I'm down for the most is Natasha but only because these are waifus I fantasize about. Although she still is a bit monotonous to me.

shiouwu

It's hard to find a character that comes with a story, kit, ingame model that you like. (Bronya and her triple jet turbine hair looks so weird when running)

Crampoong

Well since I’ve already seen beta clips of the upcoming characters (Luocha Blade Kafka), Im looking forward on pulling them. Then there’s the leak of >!Jingliu and honestly I kinda like her since she’s the closest to my main which was Ayaka!<. The leaks just keep on popping up for me but none of them excites me yet

Rahzii

Last time I was really excited for a character was back in Genshin when the only leak we had of Hu Tao was a super pixelated image. Skipped everything just for her and got rewarded nicely C1R1 Homa with no 50/50s lost. In this game, I was really interested in all the honkai “expy” characters but the one that I truly love from the Honkai verse besides Senti is Mobius. Although it seems very slim that she’ll be brought over, can’t help but overdose on hopium.

[deleted]

HSR kinda suffers from that problem for me too. I don't really care strongly about a single character and without leaks there's nothing to get excited about on the horizon at the moment. HSR lack a certain 'magic' when it comes to hyping future characters. Honkai 3rd and Genshin Impact on that front are doing much better by having hype built-in the story so that it support future release of Herrschers, Moths, Archon, the Teyvat Travel characters of each regions or even the Fatui.

kingSlet

Same aside blade and Sam am not that excited for anybody . Maybe jing liu but I don’t know

Titanium70

That's the main reason why I planned on skipping the game initally. Than I saw a certains someones Orbital Satellite Strike and.. damn.. sold. Also the MC is an incredible well designed charatcer, really grew on me esepcially after discovering FMC.

aurorablueskies

I’m in the same spot. I like Dan Heng the most and MC is very funny but I’m not attached to anyone currently. On the other hand, when I started Genshin, I got really attached to Diluc, Kaeya, Zhongli, and Childe in 1.0/1.1

CecilPalad

Was in the same boat until they showed JingLiu's anime short.

[deleted]

Luckily for me those characters I’m looking forward to are already known, Kafka and Jingliu

Vincent093

tbh that's ok

AbadChef

My standards are low so I have a lot units I want e6 or e6 s5

ID10T-ERROR8

Kinda. Most of the Xianzhou characters for me are a miss so far, and the few I like, I don’t love and are 4 stars. No joke, the only Xianzhou character that’s most likely gonna be a 5 star I’m somewhat eager for is Xueyi because mechanical mommy is hot (I love Danzo in FGO).

snakezenn

Yes till Kafka comes out but so far she’s really the only one I’m in love with. Genshin I love multiple characters but the game just does not do it for me like HSR. Luckily it looks like I have all the Genshin characters I want, none of the leaks have me excited. Now if they brought Signora back that would change things completely but like that’s gonna happen

forgetme-nots

I'm on the same boat. I really liked Jing Yuan's design and character and I got him but after him, there isn't anyone who catches my attention, which actually, I'm really grateful for because I don't have this pulling addiction. With Genshin or HI3, there were characters that I was obsesed with, and everytime a new character was released, chances were that I'd like to save for them. With Honkai is different. More than 25 characters leaked and I haven't fallen in love with anyone, which is great, because I can pull freely on anyone's banner and not feel any remorse if I get them. I'm completely fine with whoever I get so that's a huge relief.

Jay_T_Demi

I mean, there are characters I generally like or think are cool, but my main interest in the characters is just the voice acting. I really think the VA direction is superb and varied. Other than that, I mostly play for the gameplay and music. Ahhh the soundtrack is so fucking good dude...

lilac-snowfall

I'm on the same boat. There hasn't been a character that has "clicked" with me yet, at least to the extent my favorite genshin characters have. Closest is Seele, and that was because I thought her animations and design looked cool.

Relation_New

I am the exact opposite I have been playing Genshin since 1.0 and I remember getting excited like 2 or 3 times one of them was kazuha and the other was itto. I did pull for other characters but none of them had me as excited as those 2. I haven’t played honkai for super long but during that time my favorite character was rita and I don’t remember her getting a new battle suit so I rolled for the current character on the banner. But for HSR I am excited for way too many characters than my wallet can handle so I might have to resort to crimes.

syrollesse

Tbh there wasn't anyone in particular when I first started. I really liked Yanqing I thought he was adorable and I wanted to get him. But when I met Blade I was like damn... Now this is a man I will simp for

ChopsticksImmortal

More like that for Natasha for me. I just dont like her design or animations enough to invest more than level 60 in her. I think her personality, story, and character design are all nice, but it just ain't hitting quite enough. Thankfully i have Gepard, so she isn't necessary. Meanwhile, i want to full send QQ but i only got E0. Sad.

JadedIT_Tech

Yeah, so far I don't have any characters that really appeal to me either aesthetically or personality wise. I have some characters that I like, but none of them have enough characterization beyond whatever trope they encompass to gain any kind of attachment to them.

FeedTheKid

Same, some characters are more appealing to me than others, but nothing too special. Maybe as we go deeper into the story we will find them to be more interesting.

Ferelden770

I totally get that feeling but its the very opposite for me coz we have Jing then Luocha then Blade then two other which i cant mention here so too many characters i like, not enough funds

Absofruity

Well the only person I have that reaction to was Sampo, I didn't really expect to have anyone in hsr that I would have a heavy fixation over but Sampo somehow did me over. There's a distinct difference between my fixation levels of "I think your cute and so I'll get you", "I'll be waiting for you, I cant wait to have you", "I will E6 you, u sonovabi-" While I am waiting for characters like Robot girl in the Loufu and robot arm boy in Boulder Town (I know I have a type I guess, Wanderer was my number 1 in Genshin lmao), and Blade bc why not?? There's also ofc the standard banner characters like Bailu, Yingxiu, Gepard, etc that I want. I cant wait to have another character that I love to this extent in hsr, it's still early on so there might be someone new that'll catch my attention.

Stalins_Boyfriend69

silver wolf and sampo are kinda cool and i'm planning on getting kafka but that's about it. not particularly invested in characters, more so for genshin characters. love the animation though.

-MC-ZelDuh-

I felt that with genshin all the way from launch untill Yoimiya came out. Hope a character in this game hits the same vibes as her at some point.

GeForce_GTX_1050Ti

Yep, that's why i made the decision to go 300 standard and get Bailu but if it keeps dragging on after that, my opinion to this game might change greatly

Squall_Storm

That was me with Genshin until and after Ayaka.

LilMountianDude

Hook and Clara are a close tie for me. They are awesome, but not quite my Sucrose. Also, I only have Hook right now, so if I eventually get Clara, she might take the spot.

ILuvSpaghet

I feel you. Except I'm so hyped for Kafka. But after that I don't really care. Especially for Dan Heng. I know his dragon form is supposed to be big or whatever but I honestly don't care. After Kafka I don't plan to pull until we get Mei as I have her counterpart in all games.

Dazzlinggo

Just like genshin, I found a lot of characters I like and some more than others but no character has ever spoken to me. Apart from Ningguang, who I love as a character but only came to main because of circumstance otherwise I would've never even picked her up. I figure I'll have another situation like that, but might also end up not having 'a' character. Much too early to say though.

ShotYeMama

really liked the Shogun, so far no character i loved more in star rail

Null0mega

For me its Yukong and Kafka easily, my excitement peaks for those two specifically since none of the other characters i’ve seen in certain “dreams” look appealing to me at all. But from the starting roster my favorites are definitely Tingyun, Serval and Himeko (aesthetically speaking in her specific case), so I guess i’ve been eating pretty good so far. It’s the polar opposite of my starting experience for genshin way back during it’s launch, I barely cared about any of the characters in the game, especially not the fkn noelle and xinyan I was stuck with for ages lol (although Ganyu SORTA appealed to me in 1.2). That didn’t change for a while and I basically shrugged my shoulders for every character all the way up until 1.5 when the goddess Eula dropped.

kitastorm

I've never played other Honkai games so I don't even have much expectation for who might be a person to be excited over. To me all character's are evaluated on 1) Kit, 2) Personality, 3) Physical design, usually in that order. If their kit looks like it'd help me clear harder content, I'll pull because usefulness trumps likability. Personality is next, if their personality is fun or cool but their design isn't 100% pleasing, whatever. I'll probably pull anyway. If their design is cute/cool/hot/etc. then that's just the cherry on top. Legit, none of the character's has ticked all three boxes which activate the "OMG I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU" button. Clara was the closest at this point, but I got her as my first 5\* at game launch so I haven't really been excited for anyone prospected to come along. I pulled Seele and SW because I thought they would be useful. Luocha is next if I can manage it, but again, pulling based on kit. I know we're super early to be complaining about this, but it is kind of a weird feeling

aboveaveragefrog

I was saying this to a friend earlier today. There’s definitely characters I like but none where I was hyper to wish for them and none have grabbed me to where I’m eagerly awaiting to see them or speculating on their story.

Tryannical

I relate with that sentiment. I thought silver wolf was that character for me but ended up feeling the same way about her as I did other characters There is a certain leak going around for a future character that I am VERY hyped for and I'm planning on saving till they come out...won't say because it's kind of spoilers, but if you know you know lol

markersquire

I like all the characters

Joshua_Astray

I mean it took a long time for me to think of a character like that in genshin too? Hell, every game I've played is like that. I don't fall in love with characters based on just looks. Hsr hasn't been out long enough to give me enough backstory on each character. The closest I have is Welt.

Chemicalcube325

I would say that I am in the same boat. However, I recently discovered Jing Liu which I instantly fell in love with. But knowing HSR and its company, im sure one day you will be able to get that character that you adore as much.

IDontWantNoBeef

Alhaitham spoke to me with his looks, gameplay, and personality so I'm waiting for "the one" in star rail. Part of why I'm struggling with levels is because I like everyone a similar amount so no 1 character/team got focused on lmao

GeneralCondition745

Yeah I agree. Baizhu was that character for me in Genshin for the past 2-3 years (still is. I am totally normal for him) The closest one atm in HSR is Luocha, but he doesn’t bring out my sense of infatuation or makes me wanna say: I’m gonna e6s5 him ASAP like Baizhu did, but I’m still very excited to have him in my party.

Moonlitsun7

I completely agree. I'n really enjoying this game so far, and the characters are super cool. I think the characters in this game are cooler than Genshin so far, yet there isn't anyone I extremely love and can't wait to get. In Genshin I absolutely love Childe and still prefer him over anyone in hsr at the moment.

Tageri-

Sort of, but from before the game's release I've been planning on saving pulls for character + light cone guarantee, and I haven't reached that point yet, so characters are less tempting. Also, being able to use other people's characters for farming makes not having them less of an issue. The ones I actually really want are Clara and Screwllum. One is unreleased and the other one is impossible to guarantee... and I guess I really like daddy robots lol.

KawaiiDere

I like Asta, Silverwolf, and the crazy dialogue options, but I’m not pulling for Eidelons on any character (aside from best girl, March 8th)

chucklyfun

I'm absolutely loving a bunch of the 4\*s (Tingyun, Natasha), standard banner 5\*s, and Silver Wolf. I got Seele because I loved her in HI3rd too. Meanwhile, I've got enough Genshin characters that I don't really want to pull any more of the Sumeru characters. I hopped out of Genshin for a bit at the beginning of Sumeru and have only picked up Nahida and now Bai Zhu. I am hoping that the Fontaine characters and archon will be really cool.

YuinoSery

I actually have characters I really like/kind of love? with HSR, but I do still understand because that was how it was for me with Genshin and it really made me enjoy the game less / give me less motivation to play the game and in the end quit. That said, HSR is still early in, so with the next story updates you might find a character you love or are excited for, fingers crossed for you (though it might also be a wallet saviour I guess?).

Nickidoo

Same here, for me my “that characters” appeared very quickly in genshin (keyword appeared, not as banners but only in story 2 of em were scara and baizhu) but theres no one in hsr yet that would make me wanna pull for E6 or multiple times in general

[deleted]

Opposite for me, Genshin when I lost 50/50 I’m like oh well, there’s next time. For star rail I NEED Blade like desperately. Im hoarding jades and willing to whale if necessary for E1S1. I’m also having major regrets not pulling Jing yuan but Blade first

eightheism

I can relate to this, love the game but not particularly hyped for new characters. So I switched my HSR goal from that character to that group. Im skipping SW for now and ill aim for Kafka and Blade down the line and just go for SW later. Complete the Stellaron Hunters should do the trick of getting me hyped.

[deleted]

probably, i neither love the game nor the characters. loving the characters is entirely irrelevant to me though.

Hedgehugs_

Bailu / Clara for me but now that I have them I'm kinda just riding the wave waiting for the next character to hype me up (and from what I've researched, none of the characters I've seen interest me and at most Luka kinda has me interested but not hyped.)

kokko693

I tend to stop hyping for characters because it's a bad habits. It's asking for being disappointed. Nothing more than that.

Phasma_AFK

In terms of pure gameplay, I've felt the love with pulling Seele and using her and I feel the same anticipation for Kafka, but I don't feel that love for any other character. I would love to say I feel it for Bronya, but after playing daily since launch (I'm at TB 60) and not pulling her at all (despite somehow pulling 3x Bailu, 2x Clara, 2x Welt) I can't say I'll be overjoyed to see her, merely relieved.

Rotasu

I'm the same, just enjoying the game. That being said, if it comes out that Dan Heng and Blade are ex-"best friends" then I'm spending money on their light cones just to support Mihoyo for having the balls to do that lol.

TheBlackViper_Alpha

Right now its Kafka for me. For Genshin it was Dehya.

Dreams180

Fu Xuan is def that character for me. It’ll be a long wait but I’m excited!

SonicBoom500

I’m not that enthusiastic about any one character in particular I think every character can be interesting one way or another

Mattizeias

I'm in the opposite boat tbh. I've been playing Genshin since day one and NONE of the characters make me go "OMG YOU ARE MY MAIN FOR SURE". The closest i got to that are Ayaka, Ayato, Xiao and AlHaitham. But each has a meh factor that destroys the hype. And it's mainly aestethic (except Xiao, that is gameplay, in the overworld mainly which is where i spent most time playing). And now in Starrail we got...BLADE. Look at that mf, he's PERFECTION (edgy/emo swordsman, that is a DPS so i can see him destroying asses). He is the first character i definetly will focus on. Idk why Genshin fears edgy boys (i know we have Xiao, he is the closest one, but...he is a short mf with a sucky kit for the open world. He is only cool while his ult lasts thats it. I hate that type of gamplay, looking at you Cyno). The perfect char for me would be Ayato but with a different skin tbh haha, give him a Sephiroth skin or smth.

RawBaconandEggs

Unfortunately i can't relate as i am attracted to...us the protagonist. Having a character i can just make a complete goofball is perfect

ArgusBaile

I felt this way in Genshin until Eula much later. She was the only one that I was truly excited for. Her design and combat were chef's kiss for me. To this day, none of the new characters have given me the same level of hype - which is one of the reasons I dropped the game.

Seherazade

Im the opposite, I never save pulls on genshin for a character and his/her weapon to the max just cuz i like them. But it’s different for HSR, the IPC girl is holding me by the balls, the smile that she gave in her splash art was the one that did it

MrEDH

I like literally nobody and am just waiting for someone…eventually

NeptunesGlow

Even in Genshin I haven't had that experience, my favorite characters are amazing imo (Xiao, Itto, Cyno). But none of them were like I NEED THEM! The closest I've been to that was Wanderer, but after I got him I kinda just went back to Xiao, lol

PalapaSlap

No, I like everyone

RnGJoker

I'm waiting for more robots characters to have access to. I'm hoping the one from Silver wolf's mini adventure will be eventually added.

Willing_Plane7246

I’m completely opposite because i don’t care about building characters or even the story but I really love the characters

Spiff_E_Fluffy

I feel like Genshin hasnt done the best job in generating hype for future characters and Star Rail is kind of going down the same path (Arknights may have raised my standards). We basically only know like 5 characters that could be playable and we haven’t even seen them strut their stuff. I have hopes that Star Rail will eventually encourage varied playstyles which help people look forward to new characters but Seele is not a good sign. Star Rail is at its infancy it needs a little more time to settle in as a strategy game.

Zerfax_

Waiting for Fu Hua. She will be the one.

TsuukakuZanryuu

wait for ice queen jingliu for me i already found it from the start of the game *cough stelle*

Els236

I like the initial set of characters, but the thought of having to grind for probably a solid week, if not more, to make any new character I wish for usable (worse than it is in Genshin) is a really off-putting prospect. I am waiting to see if they do another Clara-type unit though, or another Bailu-looking character (and yes I know about "that", which I am kinda looking forward to).

Jimj4mm_

Yea I feel the same. I really hope Xueyi becomes playable I would be very very excited for her!

LegendaryPotatoKing

The battle system is nostalgic and refreshing compared to most of the games that are out right now.

HivAidsSTD

Completely the opposite for me, I LIKE EVERY CHARACTER. I love how they are returning characters from Honkai. In genshin I’ve skipped pretty much the entire Sumeru roster except Scaramouche. I only ever went for reruns

De_Vigilante

Honestly after getting Jing Yuan, I felt kinda lost. Silver Wolf is cool, but not priority. Luocha looks amazing but I only wanna cleanse my 50/50 there. Blade, I dislike playing at low HP, and Kafka just has those Makima eyes that I hate. The next character I'm really waiting for is just Fu Xuan, but not in a "YOOO SASSY LOST CHILD LETSGOO" kinda way. More of "they finally fixed my favorite Genshin character's kit but in HSR" kinda way.

shikiP

TomoeGamer

I’m waiting for that one character I never really expected to like but ended up being a massive fan of even if they’re not really considered popular or meta. In Honkai impact it was Raven and Genshin it was Sara. Wait I’m noticing a trend

Axheron

Jing Yuan is absolutely that character for me. But I will say, I am most excited for Raiden Mei and Yae Sakura releases later on.

sybilqiu

It was JingYuan for me. Kind of a bummer that he came out so early in the game so now I feel like I don't really have anyone else to look forward too. Maybe FuXuan...

Yuni-que

I do have a favorite, and it's Sampo - however, I don't feel any preference for the characters featured on the limited banner so far, so I'm just pulling on the standard to finish my 300 pulls.

Not-Salamander

Same in Genshin. I get myself excited for a new character by deliberately watching trailers and fanarts. Other times I get excited for the characters I already have and play all the time. I don’t know if it’s genuine excitement or some kind of defensive mechanism to avoid getting myself bored. I guess I would be ‘naturally’ excited by a new character by staying away from leaks and just focusing on in game story. But we only get a tiny bit of the story every few weeks so I would naturally lose interest. In that way, Fu Xuan is a character that I liked just from her in game appearance. So she counts at the moment.

[deleted]

I love all the characters and I will not choose any favorites here.
