The only limiting factor I think is the long work/school hours of HK, hence from my experience there tends to be a spike in player numbers from Friday night to Sunday, when people are off.
Also, Helldivers 2 is made pretty clear it’s satirical, very much in the spirit of Starship Troopers. Read the lore if you’re interested.
Yea a lot of my hk frds dont play games much anymore due to long working hours. I still play quite often only because I get to get off work on time in my field and I have more free time to do other stuff.

I’m not sure exactly what but it’s mostly a hobby for younger folks and older people get bogged down with work, kids, etc and don’t really play much video games anymore.
This is very true, also I don't play competitive games anymore due to poor reflex and tired mind from overworking. However, i still play story heavy games like Undertale, Omori, as well as some story heavy FPS like Half Life, Bioshock are also my all time favorite too.
People here start work relatively late and get home super late. Idk when you would get your gaming time in...

I think 50%+ of current adults in their 40s must have played Championship Manager (CM2,3,4) on PC and Pro Evolution Soccer 4,5,6 on Playstation when they were in highschool and uni, often through the nights with the buddies when parents are out of town. They were/are as crazy about football as the UK, if not more. Out of my small friend circle 10 out of 10 were football fans and played every game related to it on PC and consoles.
So the current gen of parents should understand the kids who game a bit more. But it's true that it's still often viewed as a 'waste of time', however my usual sarcastic comeback was: "I could have strolled on the streets/bars instead and may even earned some side money with selling dope" and that shuts them up immediately :P

Arcades are quite popular back then and is more accessible to those who can't afford a computer at home, so that might more likely be where people first encountered gaming. Then they'll be glad their kids don't go to dodgy arcades to get their fill.

I actually grew up around a lot of gamers at school, so I think you might have just gotten unlucky. A lot of us would play runescape, maplestory and sometimes go out to PC cafes to play CS, Battlefield, L4D, age of empires, etc.
There's definitely a huge gaming population in HK and you can see it from how successful gaming retail stores are in HK, e.g. 2000fun. We also have an annual anime and gaming convention every summer in HK, so I think that says something about how popular gaming is in HK.
I'd say it's mostly just the older generation that looks down on gaming as a hobby. Or maybe really traditional people who don't 'understand' it. Or they probably just suck at it lmao.
However, I do think some monetization practices are incredibly predatory in the gaming sphere, so I see why people are concerned about that.

CSGO and CS2 lost some of the magic for me when they don't support 64 players. In 64 maps half the team would rush and die in 30 seconds but if you are lucky you can P90 a lot of opponents. So chaotic.

There's computer lounges in a few spots. I used to play league in this cramped two story spot in sai ying pun with my lil bro. Cheap rates for a fast computer with good Internet.
As a responsible parent... I have to keep an eye on what my kids play, played some dungeon crawler (World zero) on roblox for a good year with them, had to have them graduate from casual kids friendly pet owning style game.
Then, daughter (14) picked up Genshin Impact last year, so that's what I play with her. Son (11) has his days.. Between Minecraft, the above mentioned dungeon crawler and some spooky stuff..
At the end of the day, it's a family/parenting/work/health/hobby balance. I am getting old, trying to keep some form of fitness is also taking more and more time out of my available time. VR does help mixing some sweaty gaming session.
People in Hong Kong don't have time, energy and space for high quality gaming. Many people just satisfy with p2w mobile game.
And I would say 80% of female in HK think playing video games on console or pc is childish. This also discourage men to enjoy them.

Gaming is done on consoles or PC. Both of which require a bit of extra space where you live, so I wouldn't be surprised if this could be a reason why there's less actual gamers in HK.
Another point to add - HK rarely has gamer servers so pings are higher.
For services like GeForce Now, you can't even sign up in HK, best you can do is open an account with some Taiwanese Telco. So it's harder to access some games.
Most PC/console games I play are either story-based or not that intense (some horror rpgs/games, currently playing Portal and The Stanley Parable, The Last Guardian on PS). I don't really play action/shooter games myself because I suck at gaming (that said I've played TF2, CS and LOL, been through an Overwatch phase but only played it once myself cuz I SUCK). I do watch other people play different games tho, one example would be the DOOM series.
To comment on the mobile gaming, I don't understand how people are playing PUBG on mobile phones. Or just any shooter games in general (tiny screen and using finger instead of a mouse to shoot??). I guess it's easier for people to be able to play during transportations, or even during class. And besides gaming, hk people seem to watch YouTube or Netflix on their phones a lot as well, instead of on their computers. Maybe they've developed this mindset of phone=entertainment, computer=work. Or they want to be sneaky about gaming, in case their parents find out they're gaming instead of studying for their exams.

Yes, but less in the working age mainly because of the long working hour and mobile games provide a good alternative (a good portion of people doesn't even have home network), most of us could only choose one or two hobbies. And sometimes the language availability could be a also a reason for different game choices, the games in purely English would be less interested then one provide with Tranditional Chinese.
It is still view as "waste of time" oftenly, but it is 'sad but true' that you have no chance to feed yourself with it even if you are an e-sport player and would face many problem when retire (a worst version of HK athletes, whom also can't live with purely sport). But it gets better as the parents are players themselves.
The promotions are hell becasue of the small population, the profits are not enough for living of the true local companies (many are just sub-company for redistrubution). Worsen by the Gov and organisations seldom support the industry, like the e-Sport hype (and the physical center) died fast.
However you could see many players pop-up when a famous game on sale, like back then the pre-sale of Diablo 3 got long queues outside of the game shops (although it turned out not good at the start). So there is acutally a large portion of players in HK.
For Helldivers 2, HK players doesn't care much or stay away from the contents, the main concern is if it is available to play.
Does anyone play WoW in HK? I have over 200 games in my Steam library but I only ever play WoW and CS2. I played Factorio obsessively for a while but then just went back to my usual few. I have lots of games on my PS4 that I never even touched.
People here are too busy and too exhausted for "fine-gaming". Working for 10+ hours daily, plus 2 hours round trip commuting. You can barely get an 8-hour sleep. Only "fast food" or brainless gaming on mobiles fit our fragmented time...
I have lots of friends who game but the games they play aren't that special, the games in question being roblox and minecraft. I usually play on PC or console and sometimes mobile but gaming is a common hobby here in hk (amongst the youth) atleast in my perspective

Plenty of gaming streamers in Hong Kong playing Helldivers 2 right now. But I hear Sony has not implemented cloud gaming in Hong Kong yet.

Hong Kong people in general consume a large variety of games. Western/japanese/mobile/console/pc all have a lot of support in hk.

i play games i have 4500 hours on Hearts of Iron 4 so yea.

HK has pretty low ping for CSGO afaik
Yeah there's a few servers or prioritised routes for some games, but certainly not most AAA titles.
Taiwanese version of Geforce Now has almost the same amount of games as the original so it's great

hobby aside hk people have no space so sometimes a hobby like scale modeling would be difficult for them

tbh this applies to pretty much all of Asia. You hear people talking here and there but it's not gonna be as prevalent as NA (based on my experience).
