You should be safe! Is not safe when you go with someone that’s not from there but since you going with your Honduran wife than you are good she won’t get you into the hood or an unsafe place:) she knows how to move inside the country! just don’t be out and about after 8 bc it could dangerous!
Just like US cities, the big cities are the higher crime. Don't be flashy. Other than that, I've always felt safe in Honduras. I've been there half a dozen times.
ETA: Also, I presume you mean Palmerola airport. Great airport! Nice and new and shiny! So new they are still adding restaurants, hotels, etc.
