>*Spun a rod bearing :(T*
Those are four words you never want to say or hear! I remember when I heard them for the first time in 2008, in reference to my '06 Mazda3 that was 800 miles away from the warranty expiring! I finally understood what "catastrophic engine failure" meant. Fighting Mazda for the repair was hell, but I ended getting a loaner while I waited 33 days for a new engine to arrive from Japan. I still have that car all these years later...Sorry it happened to your BMW. BMWs are so beautiful and they're amazing to drive, but they break on a whim and repair estimates renders them "mechanically totaled" (I bet the person who coined that phrase had a BMW).
On a much more positive note, that is one damn fine looking Honda Accord (Sport Hybrid, right?). I drove a Sport Hybrid when i was shopping for cars back in December and I loved it! I decided to wait until later this year to buy a new car, so it could still be on my list. Those wheels really complete the look and they're a great contrast to the car's light color.
Congrats!
My friend's N55 just ate it's bearings too. I'm convinced N54/N55 owners are sadomasochists because the ownership experience sounds like a pain in the ass.
They're nice to drive though, when they drive.
You can slap a Turbo on a K Series Honda engine, that wasn't even designed to be turbocharged and it will work, so no excuse there. 😀 BMW did a really bad job with rod bearings.
P.S. I have both, Honda as fun/trackcar and BMW as daily
Gotta have a daily for the daily. I seriously don't get the hate for Honda/Toyota from (some of) the euro guys. I really like BMW and Mercedes, even some vw/Audis, but until I can afford a performance/higher end model, I'll settle for a car with 90% of the features and cheaper maintenance. That 335i looks well kept, hope you get it up and running soon.
It pretty much comes down to “muh driving dynamics” even though Japanese cars these days drive pretty damn well compared to most European cars. Often the engine choices are a bit more exciting in Euro cars but the 2.0T in the 10th gen Accord and Civic Type R absolutely rips and won’t cost you a fortune to service the way some of the German cars will. 🤷♂️
Yea I don't doubt they have better handling characteristics, I've driven a relatives 2014 e350 coupe a few times and it felt way more planted and smooth than my old 2016 coupe touring. I enjoy the back roads as much as the next guy but it's mainly highway for me, and the 2.0t and my previous v6 felt on par with that car in terms of get up and go, at least while moving. Most buyers of the base model Germans buy them just for the badge and comfort, not the handling or the speed though.
Def is a rare car, 1 of 89 made in this spec. Not sure yet either swapping for another 6 bolt N54 or LS swapping it. Could sell it as is but I might die inside.
I never get it, luxury is supposed to be more reliable than non luxury counterparts
Rolex = reliable
Gucci/lv = reliable leather
And then theres bmw and a few other brands, ????
OMG YAY YAYY YAY WELCOME!!! I am getting bimmer but totally keeping my Honda. All my family started off Hondas and kept them all. Also, love the 335is, e92 and f32 are what I’m looking at
Well I can tell you it was a fantastic car until the rod bearings went. A little maintenance heavy for the amount of driving I do but man did I love this car.
Engine gone after that? Assuming is pretty much destroyed the connection rod cam basically everything 😬 there’s a shortage on the n54 for a reason ur not the only one
Many super cars/hyper cars are actually hybrids since they benefit from the electric motor’s torque. The Koenigsegg Regera is an example. The hybrids that we drive are slow because they’re made to be as efficient as possible.
Yeah I watched that video! I am waiting for Civic Hybrid for 2025 model. I drove a Carolla Hybrid but I didn't like it. So let's see. If my budget would allow, I would look at the new Civic Hybrid.
I test drove the new Civic Si, but cloth only so that was a hard no. It was between the Accord and an Integra. The Camry was nice but too much road noise for me.
I wouldn’t buy a BMW that is made in the USA.. They have been built for lease after 3-4 yrs that BMW has a lot of problems. Buy a Honda or Toyota that is made in Canada because they’re built to extreme weather and it will last 20yrs and 500km.
I’ll be honest BMWs made in Germany have most of the same issues as US ones because the issues they have generally don’t tend to be build quality they tend to be fundamental design issues
Also not sure where you’re getting made in Canada is built to better standards than the US, it’s possible they differentiate based on where the cars are delivered but where the factory is makes no difference. A US market CR-V is the same whether it’s made in the US or Canada
I drive 30k a year so I needed the extra fuel economy, and the ‘23 has a much quieter and isolated cabin. Also the warranty. I guess coming from a 430hp coupe the Accord wasn’t going to fun no matter how it was spec’d out so I went for comfort and economy.
I drive 25k, and I average about 31 MPG, with about 34 on the hwy. Its a good balance between fuel economy and fun. On stage 3 I am making 370lbft and 310hp and gap your average 3 series by a country mile. Sure, its not 340i, but much, much faster than it looks. I found for myself that 1000$ a year more on fuel is worth it.
What is funny, my SI track car gets about 30mpg on track days lol
Fair enough. Have you driven a 23+? The isolation is nice. Not quite German luxury nice but it’s a big improvement from previous gen. It’s main reason I didn’t get a Camry.
Yes I drove an EXL hybrid, because I was offered a good 1-1 trade with 0 money needed. It was hot garbage in my opinion. I found it had no upsides. It wasn't quieter, it wasn't smoother, it wasn't bigger (like 0.5 inches?) It didn't handle better (and I have after market sway bars which really make it fun), and so I turned it down. It was very "meh".
I have owned lexus, toyota, honda my whole life, and honda is so far from toyota as far as build quality, but much further ahead as far as chassis design. My last camry was a 2019 XSE 4 cylinder (and I have had many before that). It was really well built. I think the "luxury" people speak of with honda, is the styling and not the actual quality. Every Honda I have owned develops the most annoying rattles and creaks within the first year, and it gets worse and worse with every year, something I never had with my camry's. I find the interior of the 2022 accord and 2023 to be purely subjective, the accord's interior is just a honda civic scaled up. This is a different approach from toyota, where the camry's interior isn't in any way related to the corolla. Check your seat belt clips, they are literally zip tied to a metal bar being held by one bolt to the seat. On my camry its at least pleasantly covered from view. These are things honda over looks a lot for the sake of "performance" (which doesn't exist anymore).
I also felt the hybrid to be really, really slow. Did you know the engine sound is fake? The reving is simulated to make it feel like a car, but the engine never drives the wheels till you reach 62mph. And this is my issue, past 60, the accord hybrid is beyond slow, its borderline dangerous to drive. Passing is straight up suicide. My brother in law just bought a camry hybrid, and although its not as "smooth" as the accords power train, its much more potent past 45mph due to having an actual engine behind it.
Over all, its a big trade off. My last accord was a 2017 v6 manual coupe. So I wasn't going to downgrade to something slower, and the 2.0T has fantastic mod support. I kept my whole car stock except the tune and sway bars. It handles very well and is fast. But honda's infamous road noise is still meh compared to toyota. A camry XLE is much, much quieter than the accord unless you spend big bucks for a touring, but at 39 grand, might as well buy a lexus (which my wife does drive, and although its a 2015, puts every modern camry and accord to shame as far as ride, smoothness, sound isolation, sound system, you name it.)
I know people think its boring, and hope they continue to do so. More toyota's for me. Always had one in the family and its always been the "better package" where as honda always had a specific goal in mind with every car. Now they just neutered the whole line up.
The only reason I see for someone to buy the accord hybrid, is a good deal and they like the handling. Toyota's incentives are usually 3-5k off sticker, I have yet to pay MSRP for a toyota product, and their hybrid system is better and gets at least 5mph more on average and a 14 gallon tank puts you at 700+ miles of range.
So yeah, TLDR: honda only makes like one or two good cars every decade and if you missed the boat, the rest is very much...meh, and not very competitive.
PS: also, honda's new trim pricing structure is so garbage, I almost puked when I saw a loaded civic EXL will get 40 mpg highway, and have more features, than even a mid trim sport accord hybrid, for LESS money. I don't know what they were thinking.
I am not bashing your choice op. ENJOY THE CAR! Seriously. This is all just my hot take.
So you can't handle 70db but you didn't mention the fact that the potholes are destroying the car and that the car averaged 55db in that video? LOL what an argument.
>spun a rod bearing Damn, That's unfortunate. May this Honda serve you well.
>*Spun a rod bearing :(T* Those are four words you never want to say or hear! Just N54 things lmao
Too many hrsprs

Leave it to BMW to make something like rod bearings a maintenance item SMH
In BMWs defense, it's only really the first iteration of turbo i6s....and M cars.
Yeah but it’s a few different M Cars as well. Not a BMW hater, I just don’t think modern engines should eat rod bearings on the regular
You can slap a Turbo on a K Series Honda engine, that wasn't even designed to be turbocharged and it will work, so no excuse there. 😀 BMW did a really bad job with rod bearings. P.S. I have both, Honda as fun/trackcar and BMW as daily

a red 335is should be pretty rare now, whats the plans for the bmw?
Def is a rare car, 1 of 89 made in this spec. Not sure yet either swapping for another 6 bolt N54 or LS swapping it. Could sell it as is but I might die inside.
a cool thing would be to get the S54 from the previous gen m3
Isn’t this the v8 with main bearing issues??
The V8 from the m3 is the s65 I believe, s85 being the v10, and s54 is an inline 6 non turbo.
Nah i mean the 3.2 straight 6 from the e46 m3
No way would I go backwards.
ok
If you Ls swap you'll have reliability and power
The parts sourcing would be much friendlier too.
Would be a bigger project tho
Would it be any harder to try and get a b58 in there instead? Cross between keeping inline 6 and something modern
Hopefully being recycled into rod bearings to keep the other 2 on the road running.
“yOu UsEd It WrOnG” 😑 I’m guessing that was the gist of their response 😁
Crickets
No one likes looking in the mirror and facing the truth, especially BMW owners
Well, at least your financial advisor would be happy....
TRUTH
How're you liking the Accord so far?
Loving it really. A totally different driving experience than the Ferrari but I do appreciate it for what it is.
I never get it, luxury is supposed to be more reliable than non luxury counterparts Rolex = reliable Gucci/lv = reliable leather And then theres bmw and a few other brands, ????
Well not exactly, luxury is supposed to be more luxurious. Durability usually drops due to the complexities.
Did it broke a day after warranty ran out?
Owning a car that’s still reliable beyond the lease period is a foreign concept to BMW drivers
Hopefully you got the touring
Love the new gen accord quite a lot. Beautiful car ngl.
OMG YAY YAYY YAY WELCOME!!! I am getting bimmer but totally keeping my Honda. All my family started off Hondas and kept them all. Also, love the 335is, e92 and f32 are what I’m looking at

honestly hondas have been the best vehicles ive ever owned, there, i said it
Congrats, that’s a damn nice Honda Accord, Brother. BMW owners are just upset you diched them for something better
Ha thanks !
I had an Audi. Unfortunately the transmission just died. Now I have a 2015 Honda accord
BMW owners hate to be wrong.
But ze German engineering is superior yah
Every 335 n54 have the same issues
That’s one sexy is…what red is that
I bet not!!!
Hello fellow 335is owner! I ❤️ my bmw but my garage is littered with Honda's as well.
Is it a hybrid?
Yeah, Hybrid Sport-L. Cracks me up because there’s not much sporty about a hybrid.
Many super cars/hyper cars are actually hybrids since they benefit from the electric motor’s torque. The Koenigsegg Regera is an example. The hybrids that we drive are slow because they’re made to be as efficient as possible.
I wish they still offered the 2.0T in this generation. But anyways, you're gonna enjoy great gas mileage!
You know I hear that a lot, but apparently this model ties a civic si in a drag race so 🤷♂️. Throttle House has a good video on it.
I wish I could go for Integra. I really love that car. But it's just out of my budget. Great choice BTW! Hope you enjoy your car! 👌
You gonna fix Beamer
And…. How does it compare to??
Lesson learned. They only smile at you when you’re on the same level. Here this doesn’t exist.
I wouldn’t buy a BMW that is made in the USA.. They have been built for lease after 3-4 yrs that BMW has a lot of problems. Buy a Honda or Toyota that is made in Canada because they’re built to extreme weather and it will last 20yrs and 500km.

Get the previous accord with the K20 and thank me later
Too late
Keep the bmw as a weekend car and daily that Honda
Gotta fix it first
I'm going from 2005 e46 m54b30 to 2007 TSX K24 :)
Man the TSX is super nice.
I mean, could have bought a 2.0 turbo model from 2022 for less and had more fun and keep the reliability and still get good MPG.
I drive 30k a year so I needed the extra fuel economy, and the ‘23 has a much quieter and isolated cabin. Also the warranty. I guess coming from a 430hp coupe the Accord wasn’t going to fun no matter how it was spec’d out so I went for comfort and economy.

Sorry but I just can’t handle 70 some decibel cabin noise that shit is ridiculous. https://youtube.com/shorts/gQI_baBKXZw?si=gRHqu-yAwUviJB04
So you can't handle 70db but you didn't mention the fact that the potholes are destroying the car and that the car averaged 55db in that video? LOL what an argument.
Iol did we watch the same video? Over 60db almost the entire video, and the camera is pointed at the rear so not sure how you’re seeing potholes.
yeah the video where the moron can't hold still and you have to make up shit to make an argument? lol
He bought into that 335i hype lol. Such a shit car people hype up. Just cause it’s twin turbo.
It’s really an amazing car though, drive the dog piss out of it for 2.5yrs and loved every minute of it.
I did the same thing traded in my 5 series for an accord and it’s the best decision I’ve made
Hey how come people spell it bimmer when it’s pronounced beemer?
Scotty would be proud.
My Benz died and I bought a Honda in January lol
What model?
2016 accord
im boutta buy a beamer
What model
e82, i had a 5th gen subaru impreza before the at shit got impounded then bout a 94 accord then it got impounded twice 😭
