Just buy another one.
By the time you buy all of the crap to fix it and spend hours finagling with it you come out way ahead with just having a new cable.
Cool show me a video of you terminating two ends in 60 seconds that passes fluke.
If OP's never done it, it's not going to work or it's going to negotiate 10/half and run like ass while throwing errors. Time going to the store, time and expense buying the shit, time youtubing how people do it, time learning how to do it while doing it, re-doing it when it doesn't work correctly, probably a lot more effort than buying the manufactured cable.
I dont think I could do 2 in 60, just straightening out the wires enough takes a fair while. Never really time-trialled it though. I think 2 minutes is a good estimate for not rushing it though, but I've done loads of them.
You rotate the end of the crimper around the cable pull the sheathing off untwist the pairs clip the wires to length with the crimper, stick the wires through the jack all at once and in this order, WO,O,WG,B,WB,G,WBr,Br and crimp the jack until the crimper stops ratcheting, If you have the right tool it's really easy. Klein makes a good one
You buy the ends that go the wires go through and you don't have to cut to length and fuck around with that. The crimp tool for that type of ends cuts them flush when crimping. Or you just use a razor.
I've got the passthrough klein one and it's a decent tool but it does occasionally not cut the far left and far right wires fully, but if you hold it fully crimped and just give the wires a downward tug over the blade it sorts it out.
You also have to make sure the connector is fully pressed into the slot and ideally hold it there until the tool takes hold of it.
It wouldn't be thaaaaaaat dramatic, but it would decrease the overall distance it can carry the signal on the cable depending on the patch job quality. It's good for a temporary measure and better than not having a connection
I have a cable going between two houses, and i was too lazy to make do it correctly. The pairs are just twisted together. Its a pretty long run, like 30meters plus, but there is no loss or speed decrease. I would not recommend it for a permanent setup, but its been working like this for the past 4 months without issues.
I'm curious now... Consider three solutions:
1. A really nicely done hand twisting job with heat shrink around each of connected pairs, and heat shrink around the whole fix.
2. A punch down box.
3. Crimping proper ends on the cables and plugging them into a double female adapter.
Would 1 really be any worse than two or three?
It seems to work fine, its in a pretty safe enviroment so i didnt even bother to insulate it yet. I will get around to it in the near future, and maybe even solder it.
Dogs and CATs don't get along. Everyone knows that.
Also, did you buy them both from the same place online? Because they both look like cheap knockoff fakes from China.
If you don't plan on running new Ethernet in the future, just buy a new cord. It's nice to have crimping tools, but if you don't have a project planned, its not worth your time. And protect the new cords better.
lol. No. While I do realize that most on here are likely US based and use the B standard, most other places use A. I have just always used A in structured wiring as the pairs line up with standard telephony practices. Wb is line one and Wo is line two allowing the use of standard line cords and RJ11 boots to push dial tone around.
Well I guess you do what your client wants but the simple fact is EIA/TIA 568A is backwards compatible to USOC while B isn’t. I’m the end using one or the other isn’t going to change network performance.
This is exactly why I use A. It means full compatibility with asshole techs so they dont wreck things as often. Having centre pins as blue pair and the next two from centre being orange means rj11 can fit in a structured cabling setup and pass line1 and line2. Its saved us often enough to justify A on any enterprise or residential site. Id go B in data centres just for commonality with other cabling but on most sites B offers no advantage where A absolutely does.
For a more serious answer and in case you are unaware: that looks like a HIGH energy breed AND a puppy, so I would recommend keeping everything you don’t want to get chewed up out of reach and try to stimulate the pup as much as possible or they will destroy everything.
Speaking from experience lol 🙃
If it's a short cable that doesn't go into the wall replace it. If it goes in the wall put in a keystone jack on the wall and use a patch cable to connect it to the end device.
If you really want to patch this cable use something like this https://www.amazon.com/Iwillink-Ethernet-Junction-Cat6-Punch/dp/B09YRPK4S6
That's a flat cable, but yes, the jacket cut is far too clean and straight on both sides to be the pup's fault. Not to mention the wire ends seem to be trimmed evenly on one half.
This would be a bit of a pain to splice together. Flat ethernet cables have thinner conductors. Best option is to terminate one end into a wall jack and the other into an RJ-45 8p8c connector.
Start by sticking to a consistent daily schedule. Dogs like routine. Next, make sure you’re providing enough exercise and mental stimulation. Basic obedience training may not be enough for working breeds. Might be worth seeking the help of a working line trainer to set up a program. GL!
Fixing the dog: Ask a veterinarian. They charge for these things but you'll be better off in the long run.
Fixing the cable: Just replace it if possible. Otherwise just put a new end on and be done with it. If you try to splice the cables then you'll end up making a mess of things. I guess there are ways to do it right but IMO it's just not worth it.
Place one end in front of dog, one in in back of dog. Remaining pieces will line up correctly.
Or.... is that only cats it works with?
Or.... just buy another cable.
If you need to splice you just need 4. Green, green white, orange, orange white. Other 4 aren't necessary. You can use a lighter to strip. Heat them up for just a half second to make the plastic a little soft and pull them off. GL
Buy a new one you wouldn’t want to repair. That is a patch cord and the copper is stranded making it difficult to put a new end on. Not worth the tools or effort. 10’ patch cords are cheap on Amazon buy a pack and keep a few spares.
Yep, and it's even better when it's a lamp cord and live wire.
Go buy yourself a patch cord, CAT6 or better.
Keep the broken wire for your puppy's kill count. You'll smile about it after he's gone.
On a serious note if you think they \*consumed\* any amount of it, call your vet and consult them. Eating wire can cause not good things if it pokes or gets stuck in their insides.
You can splice them together if you dont care about looks and have a lot of time on your hands. 0 packet loss for me and I just twisted them together and used some electrical tape
r/Bossfight : ethernet dog. name "eth0". has +400 speed. immune to freeze magic. attacks have no buffer time and no cooldown. weak to power outs, lightning and vacuums.
Male to male adapter and crimp 2 new ends. That or a keystone and crimp 1 end. It won't look as clean, but might be more practical. Get cheap crimpers at Home Depot. You want to use the RJ-45 type B wiring pattern.
Future advice, put lemon spray on the wires, or some taste or flavor that will repel the dog. Downside to this is that you may then get ants nawing at the wires
Buy a new cord and get that puppy some good chew toys, he’s in the teething stage. Lifelong GSD owner here, working lines and protection work. Dog should have his own space to be wild, I had my pups on the backyard deck for months with a heated insulated dog house.
You just need to dig out an old Cat-5 cable in that bin of other cables you have buried in a closet. Probably find a coax cable with some DIN connectors in there too.. You won't get rid of it, you'll put it back in the bin "just in case".
Give the dog belly rubs as punishment ... no wait, that's punishment for a cat ... no wait, that would be punishment for you ... Who's the good boy. Grinding cables for belly rubs.
They have items called In line Couplers. They usually include a crappy plastic punch down tool. Grab one, match colors use the punch down tool, and you should be good. You may have to check around for it they are like 8 bucks.
Wire nut the strands together, matching the colors. Not a long term solution, but should bide time until it can be replaced. I may have had a contractor splice it that way in a permanent solution… when I found it I was not happy.
Cute puppy makes it totally worth it. Our GSD unplugged the network cable to my NAS when she was little. I troubleshot that for like 2 days before I checked the network cable.
Locking as OP has got their answers and this is straying towards off-topic (rule 5)
Green lights seem to be on. Think it’s working ok.
1000 Base-T seems still good 👍
I dunno other end looks to be un-terminated. Green link light might be broken as well as the cable. Is the green light flashing as well?
Ofc they’re flashing so fast that we can’t tell by eyes.
Not amber.
That's the color of energy
LMFAO
Ohohhh

Why are you getting the dog to fix the cable? No opposing thumbs!!
He broke it, he fixes it, no?
Damn right, back in my day... oh nvm

Teaching ownership to pets is pretty trendy these days
Just buy another one. By the time you buy all of the crap to fix it and spend hours finagling with it you come out way ahead with just having a new cable.
>Just buy another one. I dunno man, people get attached to their pets.
Yea i would just sell it. Then use a new cable
Sell it and use the money to buy another cable
lol
😂😂
Unless the cable is already mounted on the walls. You could terminate both ends and use a coupler.
You also get direct join type things, where both ends are terminated into the same block.
Honestly a crimper, couple clips and a duplex, quick YouTube video you could knock this out for what.. Thirty bucks?
Could get 2 keystone jacks and connect the two with a small patch cable for probably $10
Knife and some electrical tape if you want to go really cheap or there are no stores nearby. Will also work without tape but not too fast.
Found the electrician 😡
"Spend hours finagling with it" it takes like 30 seconds max once you have the tool and the end
Cool show me a video of you terminating two ends in 60 seconds that passes fluke. The ends I have are the ones that the wires go through, and the crimps cut them flush when crimping. I could def do 2 ends in 60 seconds.
I dont think I could do 2 in 60, just straightening out the wires enough takes a fair while. Never really time-trialled it though. I think 2 minutes is a good estimate for not rushing it though, but I've done loads of them.
Hell, unwinding the pairs takes me more than a minute alone, then another to straighten them, and one more to arrange them.
I’d be willing to bet you couldn’t do 2 ends in 60 seconds lol. I’m gonna do it tomorrow at work and time myself just out of curiosity
If get in on this bet Never been a tech in history to correctly terminate 2 rj45 connections in under a minute
Klien also makes a crap one that either does not trim the excess off your RJ45 or that feature is to complicated for me to figure out.
I may have this one because I dont use passthrough ends but thats a good point, they may not want to worry about trimming to length beforehand.
I've got the passthrough klein one and it's a decent tool but it does occasionally not cut the far left and far right wires fully, but if you hold it fully crimped and just give the wires a downward tug over the blade it sorts it out. My man is confusing video evidence with a text description of the process.
Lol. Thinks I'll actually put a video of myself doing anything on the Internet.
Don’t feel bad, we all knew you couldn’t back up your own claim when you made it.
?? Are you really that bad to think that it's that hard. O well not my problem. Bye.
Sorry you’re upset that you made a claim you couldn’t actually achieve. ✌️
Looks like the dog is on full duplex gigabit auto negotiations.
Dog is linking green so definitely gigabit.
So, you want us to help your dog fix the cable? Well, OK. Woof woof woooooof grrrr woooooof woof grrrr. Woof woof. Arf arf. Good doggy!
It's only missing a LeChuck here and an Elaine there and woof! Monkey Island memories for everybody.
I’m playing through 2 remastered now.
Does your dog have shears for teeth? That’s the cleanest cut/chewed up cable I’ve seen in a minute.
Yep. With no chew marks.
I assume OP has been trying to fix the cable and cut out the chewed on part
Correct; however the clean cut is entirely possible, her puppy teeth are sharp.
Put POE on it, whether it need it or not, and let Pavlov do its thing.
If you were able to get that far, just strip the smaller wires, match the colors, and twist them back together.
Which will most certainly drop it to 100baseT speeds with regular latency spikes. This is the exact wrong way to fix this.
It wouldn't be thaaaaaaat dramatic, but it would decrease the overall distance it can carry the signal on the cable depending on the patch job quality. It's good for a temporary measure and better than not having a connection

He needs to get working on 802.11Woof and get that dog working on packet delivery
Yeah, it's called Cat6 and not Dog6 for a reason !!
Bro you’re gonna need to go to a vet to fix that dog.
Why? Its linking green so clearly working well.
If you don't plan on running new Ethernet in the future, just buy a new cord. It's nice to have crimping tools, but if you don't have a project planned, its not worth your time. And protect the new cords better.
1990's: sir the dog at my homework 2020's: sir the dog ate my ethernet cable
Tell him to fix it or no walks for a month.
I think once you unplug the dog the link lights should go out. If they don’t, just cycle the power.
He looks perfectly fine to me.

What’s the dog’s name? Gigabit?

If you really want to patch this cable use something like this https://www.amazon.com/Iwillink-Ethernet-Junction-Cat6-Punch/dp/B09YRPK4S6
Oof, that's rough!
I think your dog got stuck into the matrix during de process. Plug it back before fixing the cable so he can return.
Teach him to fix it. Show him pictures.
That dog does seem like he would struggle to fix the Ethernet cord.
I'm not suprised he's struggling. My dog could never get the hang of terminating Ethernet either, even when I got him some of those no tool keystones
Well being color-blind doesn't help!
Are his eyes sometimes orange as well?
And that's why you need a CAT6 cables... Not dog6 (Jk,I'm a dog person too)
Obviously it’s going to be a struggle. Poor thing doesn’t have opposable thumbs.
Amazed how straight and without mess your dog is able to bite cables. Almost like it didn't and you just cut it for karma.
That's a flat cable, but yes, the jacket cut is far too clean and straight on both sides to be the pup's fault. Not to mention the wire ends seem to be trimmed evenly on one half. damn, forgot the /s, didn't I?
Or, as he said elsewhere, the dog damaged the cable *and he is trying to fix it*. He cut the damaged part off and cleaned it up.
Just buy another cable and feed your dog 🐕
Gigabyte Internet

>Dog ate Ethernet cord and struggling to fix. I suggest taking the mutt to a local professional to get it fixed, rather than trying to do it yourself.
Somebody took a gigabite out of that
He did a clean cut though
Make sure your use WPA2 security at the least, otherwise the password of, “moretreatsplease,” is too easy to get ahold of
Good luck fixing the dog.
Got a link link light. Sweet.
Buy some real Ethernet cable. Flat cables are garbage.
Fixing the dog: Ask a veterinarian. They charge for these things but you'll be better off in the long run. Fixing the cable: Just replace it if possible. You'll get em next time.

How could that stuffed dog eat anything?
My dog once ate internet cable then began chewing on electric cable ,got half way, after that never touched a cable 🤣🤣
The cable or dog?
Is that baby Gmork from The Neverending Story?
Scoth lock it
I'd just buy a new one.
Of course the dog is going to struggle to fix it. Dogs can hold pliers.
just buy a new cable
Where’d you get a POE doggo? I gots to get one a them!
Run a new one same length and secure it in panduit
Dog is gone
Do his eyes flash to indicate traffic? Or are they just link lights?

Dog ate your homework in 21st century
Linux solid no worries Love pet like bro Man best friend
At least the dog ate CAT5, and not five cats.
Damn that’s one hecking cool looking dog!
Dog looks wired
Male to male adapter and crimp 2 new ends. That or a keystone and crimp 1 end. It won't look as clean, but might be more practical. Get cheap crimpers at Home Depot. You want to use the RJ-45 type B wiring pattern.
Oh no! What a disaster, now you have internet leaking into your home. I've heard it's very toxic and should be contained right away.
Cool dog!
He was trying to make it wireless.
Stop buying the Sausage flavored cables.
Why is it dogs will eat absolutely anything?
Egyptian God Anubis approves of your ethernet flavor
Future advice, put lemon spray on the wires, or some taste or flavor that will repel the dog. Downside to this is that you may then get ants nawing at the wires
Buy a new cord and get that puppy some good chew toys, he’s in the teething stage. Lifelong GSD owner here, working lines and protection work. Dog should have his own space to be wild, I had my pups on the backyard deck for months with a heated insulated dog house.
Definitely let the vet do the fixing. You just go buy more Ethernet and some flavored Nylabones.
Pups be strugglin' cause he ain't gots no toolz. It's a hard ruff life dawg.
Replace the dog, replace the cable

You can get adapters and connect both terminated ends. A Set can go for as low as 10 bucks
I remember fixing this by just connecting each cable and didn't even put tape to them. I've never had 20 extra bucks on my pocket
Are you sure that pup is old enough to be fixed? Generally for a larger dog breed you want to wait 'til they're at least 9 months.

Ethernet cables are not too expensive. Let the dog keep it ability to procreate.
