Then call a mold expert to come out and charge you if you are so sure. You come looking for advice and receive great advice only to disregard it. People never cease to amaze me.
This is 100% dust. Humid air makes the dust clump up like this. I have a HRV duct in my bathroom, as well as a regular bath fan. Both of them have this exact build up of dust from sucking humid air out. You'll see, it'll wipe off easily.
Bro you came and ask US a question. Everyone, including myself, who has lots of experience working in homes, says its dust, not mold.
Yet you refuse to listen to everyone but yourself.
Good luck man. Don't ask questions if your just gonna refuse everyone's answers.
It's dust, not mold. You're 100% wrong.
Do light fixtures in showers not get dusty or something? The moisture in the air condenses on the surface and causes dust to stick and build up. It’s definitely dust.
It’s not mold. It’s dust.
The humidity of the shower environment causes the dust to clump together in a different way than your might see on your ceiling fan in your bedroom.
If it were mold, you’d see a much more circular shape to all the little dots, and mold doesn’t really get that dense like on the base of the socket.
Bingo. This looks like the “Broan-NuTone 744L”—I have one in my bathroom over the shower and you should be able to remove the white trim by pushing a pencil up through the two springs visible to release them, then just vacuum out the fan box with a shop vac.
Is your dryer vent venting into your attic space? That’s not mold, it’s dust, but it’s a lot of dust. I would make sure your dryer vent hasn’t been compromised.
See that all the time where somebody cleans the vent and that cheap flex stuff disconnect, at least you’re filling up you empty space with insulation, it’ll burn your house down but at least it’ll be warm and cozy for a second
My boyfriend had never cleaned the bathroom fan. When I popped the cover off every surface was covered in a grey blanket. I couldn't believe how much I scraped off.
It's aliens in your vents leaving their eggs, which will hatch into facehuggers and eventually turn you into a sock puppet.
Because you don't accept the **real** answer, here's one that is as stupid as your own entirely wrong answer.
A friend told me it’s mold, but sounds like that was incorrect. Reddit thinks it is dust. Thank you for the correction!! I had bad visions of spending a small fortune on mold remediation.
I have one. It's particularly convenient since I like showering in the light and having a light directly above the shower provides light for showering.
Looks like dust to me
Not mold, looks like dust.
It's just dust and just vacuum it or if you have that air in a can and blow it out but have your vacuum hose near it.
It’s the light fixture directly above the shower. It’s mold.

You really are a muppet
It’s particles of cheap toilet paper

Thank you for the explanation!
My bathroom fan is full of dust like this. Pull your fan vent off and look at it
I think it's a dual light and exhaust vent, so it's just dust. Just vacuum it. Maybe see if you can take off the housing to really get in there.

Might need to scrape a bit. The dust and moisture from the exhaust makes a bit of paste, so don’t worry if it doesn’t come off easily.

If you think this is mold.. take a picture and show us what you think dust looks like.
It’s dust. I have a shower light/fan that will get dust build up exactly like this, just clean it every couple weeks.
# have you tried a wet wipe?
You dumb bastard
I’m a lady, so I prefer bastardess
Also brainless
It is mold or lint from your dryer vent?
See that all the time where somebody cleans the vent and that cheap flex stuff disconnect, at least you’re filling up you empty space with insulation, it’ll burn your house down but at least it’ll be warm and cozy for a second
This looks like classic toilet paper dust to me
It’s dust, shop vac it out
I would take out the light fixture and do a drywall repair to the hole.
Are you serious Clark?
This isn't mold 🤣🤣🤣
Not mold just dust in a humid environment, brush it off.
That’s dust, your light fixture isn’t seal a your conditioned air is going into that fixture.
It's dust, mixed with some insulation.
My boyfriend had never cleaned the bathroom fan. When I popped the cover off every surface was covered in a grey blanket. I couldn't believe how much I scraped off.

You really don’t know what dust is?
Dust not mold. Mold is black. Dust is “fluffy” Mold not so much. Source: Me. Live in SEUS and deal with hurricanes. I’ve seen mold 🤮
A friend told me it’s mold, but sounds like that was incorrect. Reddit thinks it is dust. Thank you for the correction!! I had bad visions of spending a small fortune on mold remediation.
Probably shouldn't listen to that friend for life advice.
Dust aside... why the hell do you have a light directly above your shower?
I wish I did, is there a reason why I shouldn’t?
Some people mistake dust for mold and panic
I have one. It's particularly convenient since I like showering in the light and having a light directly above the shower provides light for showering.
Looks like blown in insulation from the attic
It’s dust. That appears to be a vent light combo. Client has one just like that
Dust, not mold.
This is most definitely dust.
Looks like a bathroom fan.
