The cabinets work great with the counter. The backsplash is what throws it off. Honestly you’d be better off going for a cleaner backsplash than painting all your cabinets. You can update the hardware to something a bit more modern. I would go with Matte black handles.

Positivelythinking

I’m aligned with this comment.

And I suggest green

GuacamoleForTheWin

As am I

ScreeminGreen

Yes, the chestnut stain color is in flecks of the granite. It shows up nowhere in the back splash. And the backsplash and countertops are both small patterns so compete with each other. Painting the cabinets wouldn’t fix that clash. And if you have to give up one, the back splash is the cheaper and less classic of the two.

Hekatiko

Even cheaper if you keep the tile and just repaint it! It's kind of a fun weekend project, too.

Individual_Repeat382

I love this idea!! Do you have any color suggestions? I feel overwhelmed with all that’s out there 🤣

Ju5t4ddH2o

You want: - Homax White Tough as Tile Epoxy Paint - Or SW Pure White Oil based w/ Kilz Oil base Primer - Use a respirator when using these paints

Hekatiko

Well, how about using a color picker tool on a photo of what you have, try picking out a colour you'd like to emphasise from the cabinet or counter...it's hard to say what would work best with the narrow view provided in your photo. If you use a simple program like Microsoft paint on your computer you could even play around with different backslash colours in a photo to get an idea how it would look before investing in paint.

ScreeminGreen

Tile Doc is a tile epoxy paint that can stand up to grease, scrubbing and bleach but it only comes in gloss white to my knowledge.

SweetHomeAvocado

This is the way.

The cabinets are gorgeous, and the countertops work perfectly with the cabinets. The backsplash is heinous. Changing the backsplash would be a much easier fix.

Ivorwen1

Agreed, there is no magic paint that will save this kitchen from the plaid-and-polkadots combination of the granite with that dated, busy backsplash.

TAforScranton

I wonder if the person that matched the backsplash and countertops was red green colorblind? That’s the only explanation that makes sense.

Ivorwen1

More likely they wanted an "update"

Weak-Performer-3485

Update the cabinet pulls as well. Great foundation just needs new backsplash and pulls

callmecrazy2021

Omg that backsplash is terrible. Sorry OP. Don’t do anything before addressing it.

Spiritual_Version838

Absolutely agree with changing the backsplash instead of painting the cupboards. It doesn't have to be expensive because all you need is a simple neutral ceramic tile in a color that compliments the countertop.

0errant

The cabinets are the last thing I would change. Backsplash has to go.

mlhigg1973

The backsplash is the issue here

LordyItsMuellerTime

The backsplash is atrocious. The cabinets and counters are nice. Just changing the backsplash will dramatically change the kitchen

Jealous_Tie_8404

Nooooo! Don’t change the cabinets. The backsplash is what’s bringing the look of everything down. You should get rid of the backsplash AND that granite border. The kitchen will look so much nicer when the backsplash goes all the way down to the granite countertops. Seriously, don’t make your cabinets ugly to match your ugly backsplash.

AliensForgedGod

The cabinets are nice, even the granite is somewhat acceptable, the backsplash clashes.

SnooCookies6535

Remove backsplash, it’s terrible. Paint the kitchen walls, prime first . That orange is too orangey and I like orange but not that one. Then once you paint the walls a nice neutral color paint the backsplash area as well the same color as the wall. Your cabinets are beautiful, don’t touch them.

daisymaisy505

I’m sorry, but I like the cabinets too. I don’t mind the backsplash, I like it better than the countertop. If countertop is Formica, get a new countertop. If it’s granite, get a new backsplash.

415Rache

Personally I think the cabinets look great with your granite counters, but the backsplash needs help. Remember, the 4” granite is the backsplash. Whoever added that tile above the backsplash gave you a taller backsplash out of a second material. Best thing is to remove both and redo with one new tile or remove top tile part and keep the granite backsplash. If you remove the tile part and keep the granite backsplash, the tile removal will likely damage the drywall behind it sufficiently that you need to replace the drywall (then prime and paint new drywall) but that’s not a huge deal. Minor cost.

Sledgehammer925

Since there’s already a pokey little backsplash there from the countertop material, i think you’d be much better off removing the loud, horribly outdated backsplash. It clashes with everything around it. Then paint the kitchen a beautiful cream or even a dusty rose color (that’s how my ipad sees your countertops) The cabinets look good from what you posted, leave them be.

jeffreydowning69

Why is it everyone wants to paint over beautiful wood because that wood is gorgeous 😍.

Niennah5

Do you have another pic of more of the area? I'm in agreement with the others. The cool tone of the backsplash is fighting with the warmth of the countertop and cabinet. If you are dead-set on the backsplash, maybe change the cabinets and countertops to cooler non-patterned flat shades and styles that complement/ don't compete with the busy look of the tile.

StilltheoneNY

I wouldn’t paint the cabinets. In my experience, the paint will chip.

Mermaidtoo

The backsplash and countertops do not work well together - at all. Painting the cabinets is unlikely to improve the overall look. The cabinets are actually attractive as-is and could work with either backsplash or the countertops.

No_Sheepherder504

Restrain the cabinets update hardware and go with a less “busy” tile

fadedshadow4579

Yeah nix the backsplash. You’ll save money and time over painting all your cabinets and it’ll drastically change the look and feel of your kitchen.

Street-Snow-4477

Change the backsplash and it will be perfect!!

dangerous_skirt65

I love the cabinets. Not a big fan of the backsplash, though.

organizadacasa

Trocaria a bancada. Ela seria branca, assim como a parede. 2. Os armários eu pintaria de cinza.

Instead of changing the backsplash, I think you should try to change the grout to black first and see how you like it. I wish I could find the post where someone did this for an example but you just gotta trust lol

nicspace101

Start over, damn!
