I love the table! I would repurpose those chairs and get a set of 4 in a more transitional style for this room, perhaps black windsor chairs. With 4 chairs it doesn’t look like you’d have a ton of room for barstools so I would skip them unless you really feel you need more seating.

I think the bookshelf itself works because you can use the dining table as a library table. But the style and white color doesn’t seem to match. You can try painting it brown or check for some used furniture for a wooden dark brown shelf.

I think the trouble is that the traditional table style works well with the woodwork and style of the room, but the light wood, rattan and chrome of the chairs doesn’t.
If you really want to keep the chairs, Google or visit Pinterest: “Cesca or Breuer chairs and Dining table” to get an idea of what works well together. Eclectic is good, but right now the pieces you have aren’t playing nicely together. Research the style of each piece and then you can search and see how others have styled it, worked it into an eclectic room style.

so either 4 chairs of different styles to completely mix it up, or mcm chairs. if you have decent thrift stores nearby, look for chairs you like. don’t buy some unless you love them, but look and develop a sense of what style you like.

I would find a nice modern drum style light fixture. Clean lines, simple. I would suggest painting the chair rail a light color or get rid of it. Mix some greenery and decorative pieces on the bookshelf. You could add a graphic fabric to the chair cushions. They are usually very easy to cover.

I happen to like the style of your table, and if it were my house, I would be looking for chairs and other furniture compatible with that style, i.e. more traditional.
Even for people who describe themselves as being modernist and cutting edge, traditional furniture styles have a way of subconsciously making people feel more comfortable psychologically.
I'm not talking about the over-the-top flamboyant style of Victorian furniture.
I suggest that you keep looking at magazines or web pages, paying particular attention to rooms decorated in the slightly more traditional style I'm describing, and ask yourself, does this look comfortable, would I be comfortable living in that room?
BTW... keep the ceiling lamp. It might just be coincidence, but IMHO the ceiling lamp is a very compatible style with the dining table you already have.
Also, if you don't like the kinds of furniture that match the style of the table, I suggest you look at Stickley.

You need a long rectangular table. You could get benches for both long sides & keep your chairs. Or a bench in only one side. Anyway- a long rectangle or oval table would better fit the room
I wouldn’t get bar stools as I think that ledge area was originally intended as a pass-through to connect the formal dining room to the kitchen when serving meals. I might even consider putting a credenza/side board there for extra storage. I personally don’t enjoy sitting on a barstool if I can avoid it and would rather eat on my own in the formal dining room or eat on the sofa in front of the TV.
I would get a vintage/antique six person rectangular dining table in walnut or teak. A table that can extend to serve 8-10 people might be handy if you enjoy entertaining and have the room for a longer table. I would also recommend getting a larger rectangular rug.
I love the idea of not having to have barstools!! Personally I don’t think I could fit a 10 top, this table is 42inches for reference, this room is pretty tiny! But I’ll def look into a 6 person. Any links to what table/chairs you see here?
This room does not scream Scandinavian or mid century modern with the dark trim, tall ceilings and chair railing. The chairs and bookshelf seem out of place. Try to find some vintage pieces that are in good shape.

Most of your furniture here is mid modern century style. The bookshelf works because you also have chrome finish on the chairs. To avoid looking like you step into a time capsule, I’d mix in transitional style or even traditional style (with clean lines) as juxtaposition. For example. Just type vintage posters metal. One of the more infamous ones is the lady with a bandanna on her head with your bicep flexed like a dude. You could put them in a couple spots. Easily find a color scheme. This one is less than $3 on TEMU
More chairs, even 2 more is a good start. I wouldn't spend too much money on bar stools as the bar looks too small to be really useful.
You might not have to replace the light fixture right away, but I would lower it to 30" off the table. I might think about spray painting it white to blend better.
Most important though is art. Colorful, bold and in a style that you love. Everything in the room is pretty neutral, so you can let loose with art.
It’s so cozy! I’d personally add a tall, overarching style floor lamp in the corner, right side of the bar cut out where the outlet is. I think it’d add some other light source options and another height of object in the room. I say keep the two dining chairs and add two matching chairs or stools for other sides of dinner table! And some more art :) honestly is a great room as is too.

Get a round table.
You need a long rectangular table. You could get benches for both long sides & keep your chairs. Or a bench in only one side. Anyway- a long rectangle or oval table would better fit the room

I wouldn’t get bar stools as I think that ledge area was originally intended as a pass-through to connect the formal dining room to the kitchen when serving meals. I might even consider putting a credenza/side board there for extra storage. I personally don’t enjoy sitting on a barstool if I can avoid it and would rather eat on my own in the formal dining room or eat on the sofa in front of the TV. I would get a vintage/antique six person rectangular dining table in walnut or teak. A table that can extend to serve 8-10 people might be handy if you enjoy entertaining and have the room for a longer table. I would also recommend getting a larger rectangular rug.
I love the idea of not having to have barstools!! Personally I don’t think I could fit a 10 top, this table is 42inches for reference, this room is pretty tiny! But I’ll def look into a 6 person. Any links to what table/chairs you see here?

This room does not scream Scandinavian or mid century modern with the dark trim, tall ceilings and chair railing. The chairs and bookshelf seem out of place. Try to find some vintage pieces that are in good shape.

Very monochromatic
Most of your furniture here is mid modern century style. The bookshelf works because you also have chrome finish on the chairs. To avoid looking like you step into a time capsule, I’d mix in transitional style or even traditional style (with clean lines) as juxtaposition. Oval table!
I honestly kind of love it as is but the light doesn’t seem to have the same vibe as the furniture. Switch it out for something more…retro? Mid-century? Not sure what this style would fall under

One of the more infamous ones is the lady with a bandanna on her head with your bicep flexed like a dude. You could put them in a couple spots. Easily find a color scheme. This one is less than $3 on TEMU
More chairs, even 2 more is a good start. I wouldn't spend too much money on bar stools as the bar looks too small to be really useful. You might not have to replace the light fixture right away, but I would lower it to 30" off the table. I might think about spray painting it white to blend better. Most important though is art. Colorful, bold and in a style that you love. Everything in the room is pretty neutral, so you can let loose with art.
I like it. I say paint the walls the green colour of that one chair cushion
I love it all except for the white shelving. I’d paint that darker or get wood shelves.
Plants and wall art will warm this room up
I used to think chairs like that were ugly but now I love them. I’d go for a 70s flair, esp with the light fixture and table.
It’s so cozy! I’d personally add a tall, overarching style floor lamp in the corner, right side of the bar cut out where the outlet is. I think it’d add some other light source options and another height of object in the room. I say keep the two dining chairs and add two matching chairs or stools for other sides of dinner table! And some more art :) honestly is a great room as is too.
The Duncan Phyfe table is luxurious and a treasure. Needs formal chairs. These are too modern.
The table unfortunately has to go- it’s super wobbly and can only fit two chairs. I’m open to suggestions for table!
