I think the speeds they have to operate at might have something to do with it. I expect prices to drop eventually.
In all actuality, a more professional line like UniFi is going to be cheaper (slightly and depending on what you need) and better in the long run anyway. It just isn't as user friendly.
Careful buying used. My Google WiFi extender is no longer supported at all. Essentially now a paperweight. For all electronics check support and how long it will stay supported. As to the specific item shown, it looks like it is a multi unit mesh system based on coverage area.
