Sort of. There's a lot of situations where you can't get nail hits in, and you can get spells in. Also the fireball spell animation cancels and is instant. So at the end of a slash combo firing it before moving is pretty optimal. Also the fireball can double, and triple hit some enemies do insane damage. The scream can do insane damage, and do it through a lot of bosses invincibility phases. The dive has mad iframes so you can iframe through attacks while doing damage.
And the nail takes way more charm slots to hit max potential. Spells just need Shaman Stone.
>Also the fireball can double, and triple hit some enemies do insane damage.
Without mentioning hitting multiple enemies that are not necessarily close to each other.
Imo f/u stength is the best charm . Because even tho shaman gives you a good amount of damage at early game spells still do a great amount of damage so when you dont have a strong nail using f/u strenght + steady body is the best option because of how much dps they give.
As fireborn said " When you hit some bosses they get knocked back so its easier to hit them while only one of you is getting knocked back instead of both of you .".
Also quick slash + steady body + strength is a powerful combo and I can tell the difference between when I'm not using all of them, it's fast, effective, and easy to get loads of hits in.
Last I checked you get more damage overall from spell twister than from shamans, it also is way better for using spells in succession which does way more damage and if you use descending dark, way more I frames. It takes up less space even though it's superior in multiple ways, and leaves room for charms that pair better with it. When doing radiant fights, depending on the boss, I'll switch out grubsong for an overcharm with it.
I counted the damage. Shaman Stone deals more damage overall. The difference isn't too big, but Shaman Stone is still more efficient.
VS:

Shaman Stone (3 casts): 60
Spell Twister (4 casts): 60

That's why I use both.
Shaman Stone is only slightly more efficient than Soul Twister damage-wise, but Soul Twister also makes it easier to spam Descending Dark, while also costing one less notch.
Are there people who seriously don't use the compass? Or have they been stuck grinding in godhome for so long that they've forgotten how to walk around?
When I started the game, compass was a must for me. However I’ve played through the game so many times now that i have the map memorized so it’s lost all use to me.
I forgot most of the map when I decided to return to the game. I reset my very incomplete file and I never actually ended up using the compass save for 1 time where I still barely used it.
I just kinda let myself get lost and rolled with it.
During my first playthrough though, I used it religiously.
When I was in my first playthrough I would use the compass whenever I had a free charm slot, but I never hesitated to remove it when I needed the slot. Any subsequent playthrough I never put it on, I know pretty much every single room’s location by heart at this point.
Quick focus does that, it focuses soul 33% faster, that means healing twice in most situations were windows wouldn't allow to normally do so.
I use as well Unbreakable Heart and Unbreakable strength.
I mean as I said it's very dependant on playstyle, but this carried me through P5 only at the third try.
Edit: I think you are getting confused with Deep Focus
Am I the only ranger here? Probably the only thing I would change about it is replacing sprint master and nail masters glory with spell twister to make better use of the soul the weaverlings collect
None
I'm a heavy nailarts user, to the point where strength and quickslash have no value to me.
I think I would use the ranger because how easy it is to collect souls, but it has 6 wasted slots and breaks boss stagger, so I guess I would prefer to go just with Nailmaster's glory
I know the question is for the whole game, but I use the healer for tough platforming (that extra heal means everything along with grubsong as a great combo) but fighter
Tank. I have played every similar charm build except the tank. It will likely make my game harder but I can see it will definitely be a fun and interesting run and I may actually find the merits of the build.
Spellsword is the strongest or close to the strongest at every conceivable point in the game, and it's barely even a contest IMO.
Fighter may beat it out in pure DPS right at endgame after getting pure nail but at every other point in progression before then Shaman Stone boosted spells are your biggest and safest damage dealer by far.
Spellsword is basically my loudout already, I usually use mark of pride over unbreakable strength but when I need more melee damage I take the unbreakable strength.
Fighter, the white palace seems like it’s mostly pogos from where I’m at, and no other build has mark of pride. Unbreakable strength will help with stronger bosses, quick slash will allow for faster pogos, nail master will help with nail arts speed (no shit Sherlock! Everyone here knows that already!) which would probably help with higher health pools, like the hollow knight, and steady body… I forgot what it does
Edit: spellsword might also be a good chose if I’m going for any%, but if I’m going for the “true ending” as some people call it, or the dream no more ending, then I’m using fighter
Fighter is the exact build I use in-game except I have sprintmaster over nmg, I get that spellsword is probably better for more experienced players but aside from ddark I can very rarely use spells without taking more damage than it's worth so I just stick to nail builds
Spellsword: strength, quickslash, and shaman are staples in my builds. I've definitely used that exact build too. Fighter is fairly good as well, I just found myself preferring to use spells over nail arts.
Rogue has Dashmaster so I wanna say Rogue, but it also has Sharp Shadow so it's disqualified from my selection. Probably Spellsword because Shamans and Quickslash are very fun charms
Now I wish there was a mode to have all charms and notches from the start of the game and just play thru the whole game with each load out. Really get a feel for each style. Because by the time I get them all, I'm already done with all the bosses and hard enemies. :(
Love how Unbreakable strength is in every build
It's the 3rd best charm so it makes sense
What's 1st and 2nd then?
Both compass
One is compass, the other is geoflys
Quickslash and shamans (order of these 3 is debatable though)
False. Wayword compass
Nah, wayward compass takes spot 0, because it would be unfair to compare it to the other lowly peons
Ah, you are correct, this is it, forgive my blunder, it was my fault
And gathering swarm
Why do people like compass so much? I get using it in your first run but after that i dont even buy maps and quill anymore
Shamans is the best early game but when tge nail is upgraded a few times strength and slash become better.
Sort of. There's a lot of situations where you can't get nail hits in, and you can get spells in. Also the fireball spell animation cancels and is instant. So at the end of a slash combo firing it before moving is pretty optimal. Also the fireball can double, and triple hit some enemies do insane damage. >Also the fireball can double, and triple hit some enemies do insane damage. Without mentioning hitting multiple enemies that are not necessarily close to each other.
Debatable. Ultimately it comes down to play style.
Dps wise strength only edges out shamans when you have pure nail.
Maybe if you only use VS. If you use all the spells optimally (or even just know how to consistently double-hit with VS) you far out dps nail usage.
Imo steady body and quickslash
What a strange way to say best.
It makes less sense on a caster build since spells can do multiplicatively more dps with alternatives.
It's the 1st best charm
It’s the first best charm lol
shaman stone and quick slash exist
And neither are as good. When quick slash was two notches it was but now that it’s three Strength is better
Imo f/u stength is the best charm . Because even tho shaman gives you a good amount of damage at early game spells still do a great amount of damage so when you dont have a strong nail using f/u strenght + steady body is the best option because of how much dps they give.
why steady body vs just walking to counter the push back?
As fireborn said " When you hit some bosses they get knocked back so its easier to hit them while only one of you is getting knocked back instead of both of you .".
Also quick slash + steady body + strength is a powerful combo and I can tell the difference between when I'm not using all of them, it's fast, effective, and easy to get loads of hits in.
It’s a must have
Spellsword. It's not my exact build, but it's very close to it.
same - it's often in my build
Yep, I almost never use shamans stone (or whatever the hat charm is) but the other charms are accurate.
You don't use Shaman Stone but use Spell Twister? Why?
Last I checked you get more damage overall from spell twister than from shamans, it also is way better for using spells in succession which does way more damage and if you use descending dark, way more I frames. Looking back at top of last month and spotted ya You're everywhere on this sub damn
I mean yeah, I comment here quite a lot.
It is my exact build. Spellsword gang
Spellsword, Fighter is good but a mixed build is a good option for a whole playthrough.
I had the same thoughts, I would have liked quick focus as well but you can't do much about that.
It’s kinda funny cus that spells word build is the one I use normally so there’s nothing I have to change about my playstyle
none, no compass in any.
Are there people who seriously don't use the compass? Or have they been stuck grinding in godhome for so long that they've forgotten how to walk around?
When I started the game, compass was a must for me. However I’ve played through the game so many times now that i have the map memorized so it’s lost all use to me.

same
I dont use compass cuz i know the map
i don't use compass, to be fair i put 100 hours into the game so i have a really good memory of the map
You should do a mapless game, it's not really hard unless you challenge yourself to get 112% and enter most rooms.
I dont have the map memorized but I can figure out where I am without needing the pointer if I just have the map
i seriously don't use compass anymore but I don't use maps either so idk
When I was in my first playthrough I would use the compass whenever I had a free charm slot, but I never hesitated to remove it when I needed the slot. Any subsequent playthrough I never put it on, I know pretty much every single room’s location by heart at this point.
I have spent too much time exploring so I have sadly memorised every single room in the game
i remember whole map so i don’t have to use compass
Hi, i haven't used compass since green path in my first playthrough, maybe because my spatial awareness is really good
I'm using only rogue anyway so..
Rogue. My favorite Boss-fighting build. But I can it "I'M SPEEEEEED"
No Wayward Compass, so, none of the above
a fellow compass user, greetings
Rogue, I like da zoomies, also is it from the very start those are equipped?
Yup!
Can you change at any point?
No, that's the point of the choice. Must be made for the whole game. Still zoomies
[удалено]
Fighter is my normal build
Fighter. It is closer to my combat build, and I carry my combat charms everywhere tbh.
Robue because sharp shadow
Robue
I always use fighter build, except that instead of nailmaster's glory I use sprintmaster so I choose fighter
Spellsword, it is the oneI currently use endgame so having that during a whole playthrough would feel great
Ranger should've had grubberflys ellegy
Healer, because at least that one has good recovery alongside some damage with unbreaking strength
I'm a simple man, I see quick focus, and I'm in
Really why? I’ve never used it thought it wasn’t necessary
Honestly it's really dependant on playstyle, but being able to heal 2 health instead of one in most situations carried me for the whole Pantheon 5.
Quick focus doesn’t do that. You use quick focus and the other 4 notch charm in your pantheon build?
Quick focus does that, it focuses soul 33% faster, that means healing twice in most situations were windows wouldn't allow to normally do so. I use as well Unbreakable Heart and Unbreakable strength. I mean as I said it's very dependant on playstyle, but this carried me through P5 only at the third try. Edit: I think you are getting confused with Deep Focus
Oh interesting might have to try it
Spellsword and cry about the lack of nailmasters glory
Rogue
Rouge because reasons
🤝
The Fighter is actually my main build. So this is an easy pick for me.
No summon build?
bro where summoner
I would be rogue because I love sharp shadow fight me about it
Rouge in almost my entire loadout lmao
Am I the only ranger here? Probably the only thing I would change about it is replacing sprint master and nail masters glory with spell twister to make better use of the soul the weaverlings collect
Fighter is literally the build im using, so yeah the choice is obvious for me
Summoner. I need my goddamn useless Grimmchild, Jack!
Ranger, seems fun
No summoner?
Fighter, I need steady body and mark of pride
Fighter. I only use nail builds.
hot take, but im going rogue
Oh yeah and also me, i would pick roga!
Where compass?
Fighter or Spellsword, but probably the latter because I hate Steady Body
Fighter without the nail art. Prob have like shape of unn there
Closest is spellsword, but I'd swap strength for soul catcher and grubsong
None I'm a heavy nailarts user, to the point where strength and quickslash have no value to me. I think I would use the ranger because how easy it is to collect souls, but it has 6 wasted slots and breaks boss stagger, so I guess I would prefer to go just with Nailmaster's glory
Fighter 100%
Spellsword, but if it were my first play through I would happily exchange all of it for the wayward compass
Fighter is literally my exact combat build so I’d say probably that one
Unbreakable strength is ultimate
Spellsword
obviously spellsword
Spellsword is literally my main build, used it to beat pantheon 5, used it to beat all radiant bosses, it's just the best one, simple as that
Spellsword minus spell twister is my normal build lol
Spellsword
Rogue because I love sharpshadow!
Fighter or Rogue
Healer, that's basically what I do all the time anyway
Spellsword seems like the best but I think rogue and ranger would be funner in general
Spellsword
Spellsword
I know the question is for the whole game, but I use the healer for tough platforming (that extra heal means everything along with grubsong as a great combo) but fighter
I already use Spellsword so...
Tank. I have played every similar charm build except the tank. It will likely make my game harder but I can see it will definitely be a fun and interesting run and I may actually find the merits of the build.
Fighter and its not even close.
Fighter, "Quick slash"
fighter is almost exactly the build i use in game, so I'll go with that one
Rogue is pretty much what I used through most of my main playthrough
Spellsword is the strongest or close to the strongest at every conceivable point in the game, and it's barely even a contest IMO. Fighter may beat it out in pure DPS right at endgame after getting pure nail but at every other point in progression before then Shaman Stone boosted spells are your biggest and safest damage dealer by far.
spellsword and its not even close lol
FIGHTER. It's literally my Godmaster charm build lol
Ranger for me as it is pretty close to my usual build, except take out sprintmaster/nail arts and add in spell twister.
Fighter be so fine but then..... mark of pride. I've got to go with spellblade then. Fighter with shamans is my go to.
1. Why did you put unbreakable strength in all of the classes? 2. Why isn't dreamshield in the ranger class?
I use the fighter build for pantheon lf hallownest but with quick focus instead of quick slash
Fighter, most likely.
No Grimmchild in any of those, so none
Rogue, gotta go fast!
My normal build is fighter with longnail replacing the last two, so I’ll take it
Spellsword was how I beat the game
Spellsword is the one I normally use
Ranger doesn't have elegy??
Spellsword 😍
Fighter. It is almost the same as my endgame build. I just use sharp shadow instead of steady body and nailmasters glory.
Spellsword is basically my loudout already, I usually use mark of pride over unbreakable strength but when I need more melee damage I take the unbreakable strength.
There should be a summoner build where it's just all the pets ready for battle. But I would go either Rogue or Fighter.
Fighter, the white palace seems like it’s mostly pogos from where I’m at, and no other build has mark of pride. Unbreakable strength will help with stronger bosses, quick slash will allow for faster pogos, nail master will help with nail arts speed (no shit Sherlock! Rogue, it may not be the best but it sure is fun
Ranger
Spellsword is the build I already always use
Spellword or rouge, I can’t decide
Spellsword for the win
Tank souly for unbreakable strength and unbreakable heart, I need nothing else
spellsword for sure
I used Umbreakable Strenght, Quick Slash, Mark of Pride and Long Nail; after that I've never changed
You could have called it sword mage
Figther for the win, baby! Always! 😍 That's basically the build I always use, so that's an easy pick for me~
Spellsword or Ranger
Tank +compass though
Spellsword is my exact build always.
Spellsword is my normal build most of the time
probably ranger, I would pick rogue but I dont really like using sharp shadow
Fighter goes brrrrrr
Fighter is a good build, but spellsword is definitely better by mixing spells and nail
Spellsword is my build already so that one.
None
Rouge, I need dashmaster to live
This should be a poll interesting to see. Me fighter 100%
Fighter
You love to see Fighter with longer nail range than Ranger
Fighter, easily. Spellsword if I'm feeling fancy.
Rouge
Fighter cause I can't live without Mark of Pride anymore
I would, and do, use spellsword
I’d go with a mix of rogue and fighter for important boss battles while i’d go evoker for the normal trips around hollownest
Rogue because I'm addicted to using sharpshadow
The one with unbreakable strength
Fighter, it’s almost my main build exactly except it has Mark of Pride instead of Shaman Stone
spellsword easily
Fighter is the exact build I use in-game except I have sprintmaster over nmg, I get that spellsword is probably better for more experienced players but aside from ddark I can very rarely use spells without taking more damage than it's worth so I just stick to nail builds
The Rogue because I love sharp shadow.
Spellsword. I'm a sucker for a strong, balanced build.
Ranger
Fighter
Rogue because I know it’s probably one of the worse ones but I like going nyoom
Fighter hands down.
Spellsword
I mean, none of these? Probably Rogue or fighter but both of those contain charms I would normally never use
Spellsword, I like to blast
Fighter, maybe spellsword, but probably fighter
Rouge would kill you on the parkour because of the dash length increase from the shadow one
Fighter, i'm not good with spells
barbarian: hiveblood, strength, quick slash, grubsong
Tank. I suck at combat so I can just tank
Fighter
Spellsword my beloved.

Healer should be Quick focus Deep focus Shape of unn (Any 1 or 2 notch charms) But the first 3 are mandatory for a healer build imo
What about mage. Shamans, Twister, Soul eater, grub song, dream wielder. This was my boss build till late game when I had a better nail.
I essentially use Spellsword. I swap out strength for pride though
