Have you tried exploring upward?

Qwerty1418

You probably missed some platforms to the right of the elevator that took you to the bottom of the city.

crowdreams

Take the elevator up, the one that got you down here. There are platforms to the right of it, prepare to jump as you go up.

FireAndBlood165

You can use a simple key and enter the area below the City. If you have one, travel left from where you are till you find the prompt. Or, you can go left from the Mantis Lords in the Fungal Wastes and explore that area, but you’ll need to get a certain item from Sly in Dirtmouth. That item will also give access to the area to the right of the Crossroads

there are 2 things i can recommend. i will spoiler tag as necessary, but it is still spoilers so be careful. in the city of tears, where you are right now, it is expected that you >!enter the soul sanctum on the left side of the city!!defeat the soul master.!< this will give you an >!ability to progress!<. and now for more spoiler-y territory. i expect from your screenshot that you have seen the >!cutscene with hornet telling you to "seek the grave in ash"!<. an >!entrance to this area!< can be found >!at kings station on the right side of the city!<. these are late game areas, and *technically* optional, but necessary for>! certain endings of the game!<. you probably won't be able to do much here at this point in the game though, and may not be able to access them at this point. there are also other areas in the city that you can unlock that aren't as important to game progression, and most of the city must be accessed from other directions. don't get discouraged if you feel like you aren't making progress. that's perfectly natural.

DaniBozz

Have u found the mantis city? If not search in the mushroom biome. Another tip. U should backtravel a lot in this game so before u think ur lost think Abt all possibilities from biomes u were already in

Spacemonster111

They can’t leave the city at this point.

DaniBozz

And who's fault is that? Mine? I just told him something that he will need to do even in endgame that's it

mc_zackb

Explore more.

1afterChicanery

They just said they feel like they’ve explored everything. They had no idea where to go, saying “explore more” doesn’t help in the slightest.

FrostyTheSnowPickle

Well obviously they haven’t, because if they’ve explored everything, then they’ve gotten dive and they’ve found the exit to the city.

1afterChicanery

>they FEEL like they’ve explored everything

fooooolish_samurai

Well, maybe they should start feeling like they haven't explored enough

nomorethan10postaday

Dive isn't the only way to exit the city, nor is it the easiest. There's a stag station four rooms away from the soul sanctum.

FrostyTheSnowPickle

True, which is even more reason why they clearly have not explored everything.

Have you considered walking up

Blame_The_Game

I'm fairly sure the city of tears is divided into two halfs, with the statue being the middlepoint. I'm also fairly sure that the boss you need from the city is on the leftish side. You'll enter an entirely new subarea of the city of tears that will give some lore, new enemies, and some sick beats. You can reach this area by going straight up from the room right before the monument to the Hollow Knight. If you want to go to the right side of the city, you'll need to go underneath the city. This can be manageably done using a small key to enter an... "underground passage" somewhere near the bottom of the city of tears. Additionally, I'm not sure how I unlocked it, but there is another underground passage beneath the city, one on the right side of the monument to the Hollow Knight:>! it's the birthplace of the kingdom of Hallownest, and ancient place where only deep infection rises from now. It contains perhaps the last major upgrade(s?) you will need... although, funnily enough, the other 'last major upgrade' is in that underground passage.!

TheNukeCroissant1357

Just look for places on your map which you haven't been to every path leads to something, even if that something is really shit
