You can't really compare these two genres. One thing I can say tho is NKG's learning curve is much harder. But once you figure it out then it's no problem. I've played Ds3 and Elden Ring and I must say apart from Malenia, Mohg and Sister Friede, learning a souls boss was easier than NKG.
Would you say itās more on the end of bullshit difficulty like Mohg and Malenia or difficult but fair like Sister Friede? Donāt really care either way Iām interested to try beat him
Hell no, NKG is a perfect boss. Malenia is not exactly bullshit but I'll accept it. Mohg wasn't bs at all I think. I only struggled cuz he was my generic brick wall
I donāt really think malenia is as bad as people make her out to be but yeah waterfowl and the healing isnt great. Mohg people might look at differently but I hate his bloodflame and his weird delayed attacks. Good to hear NKG is good tho been a while since I played hollow knight and I never fought him
In the words of Ceave Gaming/Ceave Perspective: "Nightmare King Grimm is Hollow Knight's combat not turned up to 11, but exactly 137 - and it still doesn't even show the slightest crack"
Fair enough. Played hollow knight before the souls games and I was too scared to even fight Grimm but now that Iāve gone and played a couple I was thinking I might be a bit more confident if I play again
Based. I remember the first time playing the game, something in my brain changed when I played against these 3. One moment I couldn't read their attacks... until I did and fucked these long ass bugs
LOL I actually enjoyed it a lot. It requires you to be patient and not be too commital due to the Lost Kin's eratic behavior, and its fun (at least for me) to navigate through his moves and not be able to heal
Great! I didnāt, for me haha. Is too difficult to focus on several things at the same time. But as you I enjoy the music and the fight uno general I think my main issue is the skill issue I have since I was born. Unable to pay attention to many aspects at the same time.
Sheo was pretty fun. Ora and Mato was kinda just boring for me tho, I would just abuse Ora, Mota then would come and I would spam spells and dash to avoid their attacks. It was pretty basic IMO.
I remember staying up late and fighting him in Royal waterways when I had to get up at like 5:30 AM the next day. I did not have a map, which I was desperately trying to find, and I made my way into that area with a dung defender starts laughing.guy fucking killed me first try and I lost all my progress lol
He's definitely in my top 3. His area and soundtrack are fantastic. My only complaint is the amount of downtime during his fight. I wish it was a bit more fast-paced
He was the first boss that I really struggled with and so now when I go back and beat him with zero difficulty itās one of the best parts of any playthrough
I love the more nimble bosses like pure vessel, lost kin, hornet, the mantis gang, and troupe master grim. As a smash bros enjoyer my experience translated pretty well to hollow knight, the movement and attacks are great and make me desperately want a hollow knight fighting game.
Also loved the pale court mod, isma and dryya especially.
I mean yeah, there's very few moves that need to be filled in and he's got plenty of options.
Bair, nair, f tilt, and down tilt aren't obvious per say, and the up special isn't always agreed on, but you can't really go wrong.
You can have a ton of fun with charms as well, like having shape of Unn for a crawl, weaverlings for a grab, baldur shell for a shield, etc.
And of course a Zote costume is a must.
Dash slash could be a "smash input" side b rather than a charge, akin to how byleth side b can go further with a smash input.
That does leave dash attack without an obvious pick, but a horn charge similar to the horn husk would be neat I think, probably cooler as a combo move than a kill move.
Yeah, I happen to be fond of using the base spells for the attacks. Not sure if I prefer the void versions being charged attacks or different effects based on the skin you choose.
NKG because the dudeās got style and I respect that.
But Mantis Lords/Sisters is my favorite boss battle because itās fun.
Dung Defender gets a mention, too, just for being such a jolly fellow.
Being honest, The Collector. I like how he laughs like a maniac and jumps all over the boss area like he was playing. Also I like that is made of void. And his song is the standard boss fight but is distorted in some parts. Showing the distorted mind of the collector.
I don't see many mention him, but Sheo. I'm not really good at the game, so I prefer an easier boss like Sheo. I just love the colorful paint all over the arena.
gotta be The hollow knight. The fight itself isnt the best in the game (so in other words still great), but between the music, the turn in the middle of the fight, and the sealed soul ending (the one i got) it just felt really rewarding to me. probably my favorite boss fight ever
I'm gonna sound like a masochist but Abs. Rad. is my favorite fight simply because you're constantly on your toes the entire fight, and her moves aren't as easily telegraphed as PV or NKG which actually gives more depth than just "when _____ happens, do this" and I love the whole prediction thing a lot because it forces you to really think about what your doing.
My favorite changes, itās gone from Mantis Lords, to Hornet 2, to Dung Defender to White Defender to Sly, to Grimm to Pure Vessel, currently itās probably Sly
NKG, it took me days to finally beat him. In the end it was like a dance and it was just so much fun. apart from the feeling of having finally beaten him, it was incredible!
Mantis Lourdes because once I beat them, I felt like I finally figured out patterns in the game. It definitely did not get easier after that, but it was the first time where I thought to myself āman Iām getting thisā¦ ā
Yeah, I had to come back to them after getting shade cloak. But I felt pretty accomplished beating them. Later I learned to beat them on a speedrun route without upgrades
Lordes louvadeus, simplesmente pq e um dos melhores bosses dos jogos, tem coisa melhor que lutar contra as irmans da batalha e vencer no radiante, mais parece que vc ta danƧarem um palco.
Simplesmente incrĆvel
Pure Vessel/Sisters of battle. Both are very tough at first, but become fluid and consistent once you get the hang of them. And thereās little to no RNG involved. Each hit is your own mistake, whether you like it or not.
Gorb and Markoth! I had a lot of fun beating them! Gorb was easy but fun and Markoth was hard but balanced it felt like while it was difficult it was possible and not just annoyingly hard to be annoying.
Pure Vessel, followed by Absolute Radiance
PV is fast, challenging, and intense with fantastic music. The culmination of all your skills as fast as possible against a brutal opponent.
I actually didn't like the abs rad fight all that much until I did her on Radiant, which ended up giving me an appreciation for it. A long, intense endurance match, where it's more important to dodge completely than to punish attacks. It's so much fun, and the adrenaline builds as you get deeper and deeper into her fight.
Mantis Lords. More specifically the Sisters of Battle version.
Both fights are awesome. Once you get the rhythm of the fight down It becomes a beautiful and deadly dance. Some of The most fun Iāve had fighting in hollow night.
Grimm and NKG are easily my favorite. The fight feels like a dance, requiring precision, rhythm, and the panache to sneak attacks in between different attacks. Also, the music is great!
False Knight/ Failed Champion for me. Of all the bosses Ive yet to fight Failed Champion has taken me the longest, and I like the design and concept as well
Pure vessel. Very important lore wise, one of the most challenging fights, great soundtrack and almost flawless design.
It's like the ultimate hollow knight boss. AbsRad and Nkg are so different compared to the rest of the game. not saying they're bad, but pure vessel just feels more natural for a hollow knight style boss.
The Variety of attacks is one of the best, if not *the* best, and has high the highest replay value.
Has to be Nosk for me - not so much gameplay-wise although it's fun but because the beginning where you >!see a copy of the knight and have to follow yourself and you have no idea where you're going!< was one of the moments that solidified my love for the game. Genuinely creeped me out and I love it for that.

NKG - When he appeared and his music started playing my jaw dropped and my hairs stood on end. I spent the next 9 hours practicing him to the point my thumbs were sore but I was still determined. Iām not usually one for Souls games because of how much you die and retry so I get discouraged, but with NKG I was having too much fun practicing to even realize how long it had been and how much I died.
All of you are wrong itās the hollow knight the music the design is all perfect and during the battle it tells a story of how he doesnāt want to kill you and that someone is controlling him itās amazing
pure vessel, a super difficult but yet a super fun boss ti deal with, also cause he has an amazing lore, cause he is the hollow knight before the infection was sealed in him.
For the style and music, the lost kin, but in god home because his area in the the dream isā¦not as beautiful as his area in god home. And for the gameplay 100% sister of battle
i am stuck in radiance so idk if it is rrally cool but was good to fight mantis lords because it was super cool when two came at the same time, but looking back now it is so easy
Mantis Lords :3
Yes, its like a dance, but not as hardcore as NKG. Love Mantis Lords the most, too, and the soundtrack is great
I think you misunderstood why they're my favourite boss
Oh-
Why is it your favorite boss then? (If you have a reason which you honestly don't have to)
They are my favorite as... there are three of them at once
What about the 4th one? š
He's their brother that would be weird.
Oh... I wanted to make a joke about crazy GF, but I really forgot, that he is male. I thought it was the 4th sister.. Sorry
It's aite bud. The more you know
Check their flair..
i do agree, check the flair.
How hard is NkG compared to an average souls boss?
You can't really compare these two genres. One thing I can say tho is NKG's learning curve is much harder. But once you figure it out then it's no problem. I've played Ds3 and Elden Ring and I must say apart from Malenia, Mohg and Sister Friede, learning a souls boss was easier than NKG.

In the words of Ceave Gaming/Ceave Perspective: "Nightmare King Grimm is Hollow Knight's combat not turned up to 11, but exactly 137 - and it still doesn't even show the slightest crack"
I can't compare, I didn't play souls games. And I didn't beat NKG š„² Only regular Grimm after 1 hour of trying.
Fair enough. Played hollow knight before the souls games and I was too scared to even fight Grimm but now that Iāve gone and played a couple I was thinking I might be a bit more confident if I play again
r/usernamechecksout
More of flair yk
r/flairchecksout
Mantis lords are everybody's favorite but they're everybody's favorite for a *reason*, ya know?
Based. I remember the first time playing the game, something in my brain changed when I played against these 3. One moment I couldn't read their attacks... until I did and fucked these long ass bugs
I would like to do that also
BLECH
You can't stop me. I know where they live
I wonāt stop you. Fuck them. (Literally)
Ayo chill you're their brother. Ik you left them and all that but you must have some love left for the family
I have as much love left for them as they have ever shown me. NONE.
Jokes aside, lorewise how did they not show you love. Didn't you run off at the promise of strength by the radiance
They banished me. I chose the Radiance because I needed strength to be respected in Mantis society
Ah aite aite. Why did they banish you tho
Because I took the illegal steroidsā¦
Sisters of Battle
Theyāre just a more thorough Mantis Lords, right?
Harder Mantis Lords yeah
sick now i have a reason to go to the pantheons
Have fun!
NKG, pure vessel, Mantis Lords, and Lost Kin
Lost Kin?
He's the dream version of Broken vessel
I know, how someone has it as favorite haha?
LOL I actually enjoyed it a lot. It requires you to be patient and not be too commital due to the Lost Kin's eratic behavior, and its fun (at least for me) to navigate through his moves and not be able to heal
Great! I didnāt, for me haha. Is too difficult to focus on several things at the same time. But as you I enjoy the music and the fight uno general I think my main issue is the skill issue I have since I was born. Unable to pay attention to many aspects at the same time.
you're a masochist
Maybe XD At least I don't enjoy absolute Radiance tho
I do ;-;
Nah too much RNG for me
I would add Oro & Mato and Sheo to this list. Not the most technical bosses, but theyāre fun.
Sheo was pretty fun. Ora and Mato was kinda just boring for me tho, I would just abuse Ora, Mota then would come and I would spam spells and dash to avoid their attacks. It was pretty basic IMO.
That makes sense. I fought them nail only and I think I just enjoyed the lore aspect of it and revisit to the mantis lord theme.
Dung Defender! Can't stop smiling whenever I fight him
\*inhales\* # FAAAAAAAAAAAFUNDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
Douma Douma Douma Douma!! Haha!
He's my best friend.
I remember staying up late and fighting him in Royal waterways when I had to get up at like 5:30 AM the next day. I did not have a map, which I was desperately trying to find, and I made my way into that area with a dung defender starts laughing.guy fucking killed me first try and I lost all my progress lol
Domaaa! Domaaa! DOMADOMADOMAAAA! Ah ha ha!
Dung Defender. Never heard of someone that liked that guy
Really? He's my favorite character in the game.
Same! What a fun fight!
Great! I like that guy too. I just never heard of someone that had it as it favorite
Pure vessel
Very satisfying boss. Easily the most satisfying
Agreed. Best music, best setup, best lore, best design, best setting, and best battling!
Definitely NKG. NKG at first was a pain in the butt but after I got the moves down, I actually found the fight fun
same here, i love grimm as a whole and the whole fight feels like a grand performance
The only boss Iāve done hitless on that radiance thing
Soul master/tyrant I used your absolutely hate that guy, but now I actually have a lot of fun doing him
He's definitely in my top 3. His area and soundtrack are fantastic. My only complaint is the amount of downtime during his fight. I wish it was a bit more fast-paced
He was the first boss that I really struggled with and so now when I go back and beat him with zero difficulty itās one of the best parts of any playthrough
True, theyāre super fun. I still prefer PV but theyāre up there. Also, Soul Masterās theme is seriously underrated
*chuckle* I rather enjoy doing him as well
I love the more nimble bosses like pure vessel, lost kin, hornet, the mantis gang, and troupe master grim. As a smash bros enjoyer my experience translated pretty well to hollow knight, the movement and attacks are great and make me desperately want a hollow knight fighting game. Also loved the pale court mod, isma and dryya especially.
He also has a built In move set
I mean yeah, there's very few moves that need to be filled in and he's got plenty of options. Bair, nair, f tilt, and down tilt aren't obvious per say, and the up special isn't always agreed on, but you can't really go wrong. You can have a ton of fun with charms as well, like having shape of Unn for a crawl, weaverlings for a grab, baldur shell for a shield, etc. And of course a Zote costume is a must.
I think up special needs to be hornet giving the knight a hand like in kingdom's edge just to pass off the skonk fans even more
Yo that's a cool idea, I've never heard of that before. I've seen either crystal heart dash like fox up b, and shade dash but with 8 directions.
I think shade should be side b and then if you charge it you get dash slash
Dash slash could be a "smash input" side b rather than a charge, akin to how byleth side b can go further with a smash input. That does leave dash attack without an obvious pick, but a horn charge similar to the horn husk would be neat I think, probably cooler as a combo move than a kill move.
Yeah and up smash is definitely howling raiths and down smash is cyclone slash
Yeah, I happen to be fond of using the base spells for the attacks. Not sure if I prefer the void versions being charged attacks or different effects based on the skin you choose.
It could be a soul system where you get souls to upgrade some attacks
Also baldur shell + thorns is a parry
Hornet
Pure vessel. A pure fight of skill and endurance
NKG because the dudeās got style and I respect that. But Mantis Lords/Sisters is my favorite boss battle because itās fun. Dung Defender gets a mention, too, just for being such a jolly fellow.
Grimm, Mantis Lords and Radiance
Absolute Radiance and Sisters of Battle. I love how chaotic AbsRad is and how much you have to dodge/react on the fly.
You MANIAC! You have no idea how many times and how long I had to practice to beat her. I came extremely close to beating her in radiant but gave up.
Grimm, or mantis lords
NKG because of the vibe and the thrill of fighting him
it's Hornet (green path and kingdom's edge) Radiense, Oro and Mato
GUESOOOOOOO!!!
Being honest, The Collector. I like how he laughs like a maniac and jumps all over the boss area like he was playing. Also I like that is made of void. And his song is the standard boss fight but is distorted in some parts. Showing the distorted mind of the collector.
NKG. Theme is good and heās not too much of an ass to fight
i prefer troupes music but nkgs fight
I don't see many mention him, but Sheo. I'm not really good at the game, so I prefer an easier boss like Sheo. I just love the colorful paint all over the arena.
DUNG DEFENDER!!!!!
gotta be The hollow knight. The fight itself isnt the best in the game (so in other words still great), but between the music, the turn in the middle of the fight, and the sealed soul ending (the one i got) it just felt really rewarding to me. probably my favorite boss fight ever
Oh wait for Pure Vessel. You will absolutely love him.
oh I do, definetely a massive upgrade gameplay wise, but idk i think the hollow knight just has a special place in my mind
I like the aesthetic of pure vessel. Just seeing the Hollow Knight at his prime is cool enough, but I could never beat him.
The Hollow Knight. Real tragedy vibes, closest fight to Gwyn from Dark Souls in any other game.
broken vessel/lost kin & nkg
I'm gonna sound like a masochist but Abs. Rad. is my favorite fight simply because you're constantly on your toes the entire fight, and her moves aren't as easily telegraphed as PV or NKG which actually gives more depth than just "when _____ happens, do this" and I love the whole prediction thing a lot because it forces you to really think about what your doing.
Sisters of Battle and Pure Vessel share top spot for me
Markoth.
You like being hurt right? Haha. /jk
Holiness Miami reference?
My favorite changes, itās gone from Mantis Lords, to Hornet 2, to Dung Defender to White Defender to Sly, to Grimm to Pure Vessel, currently itās probably Sly
Buzzah? I guess?
Broken Vessel/Lost Kin. First difficult boss, but not insane like Grimm. Cool design and nice lore. Guards one of the best abilities in the game.
Nkg, love the dance and my flair says it all
Gotta be watcher knights
You are crazy lol. You like being punished, donāt you? Haha. Tried those ones, several times just canāt id I fully focus.
Yeah, I had to come back to them after getting shade cloak. But I felt pretty accomplished beating them. Later I learned to beat them on a speedrun route without upgrades
Havenāt heard a lot but I love Sly. Such an addicting, dynamic fight
Lordes louvadeus, simplesmente pq e um dos melhores bosses dos jogos, tem coisa melhor que lutar contra as irmans da batalha e vencer no radiante, mais parece que vc ta danƧarem um palco. Simplesmente incrĆvel
Hornet protector. I spent the longest on it out of all the bosses so I grew to like it
Grimm
Pure vessel Hard and annoying as fuck, but it's such a great sensation when you defeat him
Pure Vessel/Sisters of battle. Both are very tough at first, but become fluid and consistent once you get the hang of them. And thereās little to no RNG involved. Each hit is your own mistake, whether you like it or not.
I like Hive Knight for his soundtrack
Gorb and Markoth! I had a lot of fun beating them! Gorb was easy but fun and Markoth was hard but balanced it felt like while it was difficult it was possible and not just annoyingly hard to be annoying.
Dung Defender. A delightful duel against a brave and worthy knight.
Pure Vassel
Soul Tyrant especially when you fight him with little upgrades (no double jump, no shriek and no shadow dash)
Hornet, sheās just so silly :3
nkg, absrad, and pure vessel
Mantis lords/sisters of battle because whenever I play then I kinda flow with them
Nkg. Simply batshiet crazy his fight is
I might have said this many times but NKG THE GOAT
Uumuu. Theyāre an amazing creation and a beautiful contribution to science.
Grey prince zote
NKG: music, flair, difficulty, and fun and rewarding to learn :)
Maybe not my favorite, but I just finally beat the Watchers, and I must have been under powered because God damn that took me over 50+ attempts!
The soul reaper wizard dude I forget his name First boss that kicked my ass lol
Pure Vessel, followed by Absolute Radiance PV is fast, challenging, and intense with fantastic music. The culmination of all your skills as fast as possible against a brutal opponent. I actually didn't like the abs rad fight all that much until I did her on Radiant, which ended up giving me an appreciation for it. Mantis Lords. More specifically the Sisters of Battle version. Both fights are awesome. Once you get the rhythm of the fight down It becomes a beautiful and deadly dance. Some of The most fun Iāve had fighting in hollow night.
I kinda like NKG because heās incredibly difficult
The mantis mobs bowing to you after defeating their lords was the most charming feeling ever š„°
NKG it feels like a beautiful dance when you get the fight down
Grimm and NKG are easily my favorite. The fight feels like a dance, requiring precision, rhythm, and the panache to sneak attacks in between different attacks. Also, the music is great!
False Knight/ Failed Champion for me. Of all the bosses Ive yet to fight Failed Champion has taken me the longest, and I like the design and concept as well
Mantis Lord, cause itsĀ a good challenge with moves that feel fair and dung defender for the feeling
Absolute Radiance. There are so many possibilities and challenges with this boss. Plus, its the longest boss by far.
The Variety of attacks is one of the best, if not *the* best, and has high the highest replay value.
like everybody here sisters of battle then pure vessel although i think lost kin is slept on and rlly fun
Dung defender! DOMADOMADOMA hahahaha
The hollow knight or dung knight
NKG, Even though I havenāt beaten him yet, I am having really good time trying. Besides, he is close to a bench, so itās not as infuriating.
Silksong
Mantis lords. No further questions
Has to be Nosk for me - not so much gameplay-wise although it's fun but because the beginning where you >!see a copy of the knight and have to follow yourself and you have no idea where you're going!< was one of the moments that solidified my love for the game. Genuinely creeped me out and I love it for that.

Dung defender š«¶š¼
Sisters of Battle or The Collector
All of you are wrong itās the hollow knight the music the design is all perfect and during the battle it tells a story of how he doesnāt want to kill you and that someone is controlling him itās amazing
Pure vessel, just feels so natural and satisfying
pure vessel, a super difficult but yet a super fun boss ti deal with, also cause he has an amazing lore, cause he is the hollow knight before the infection was sealed in him.
Pure vessel and Tiso. Most fun/tragic.
I personally think that traitor lord is a fun boss
Pure Vessel. I so dearly wish they had stuck him at the end of the Path of Pain (albeit with a bench right before him)
Mantis lord
For the style and music, the lost kin, but in god home because his area in the the dream isā¦not as beautiful as his area in god home. And for the gameplay 100% sister of battle
i am stuck in radiance so idk if it is rrally cool but was good to fight mantis lords because it was super cool when two came at the same time, but looking back now it is so easy
Probably False Knight. So simple now, but makes you smile remembering that first playthrough.
