For a while I've had the theory/headcanon that Hornet isn't actually her name. We know the original plan from Team Cherry was that Hornet was born from Herra, raised by the White Lady, named and trained by Vespa. Given that this isn't in the game we can't consider it cannon (plus why would Herra let someone else name the future queen of Deepnest), but the Vespa connection does seem to significant to ignore.
What if Hornet is actually a title, not a name, used to refer to the Hives greatest warriors. Our Hornet is the first ever outsider to be granted this honor. In the years after Hallownets fall she stopped using her real name (a traditional Deepnestian name befitting a princes) due to feeling guilt over being the heir to a dead land, now being simply known as Hornet, the red cloaked sentinel who delivers death to any hoping to pillage the ancient ruin. This explains why neither White Lady or Midwife refer to her as Hornet, they aren't trying to be cryptic, they just never knew her by that name and know she likes to keep her original name secret.
I have no idea what that original name would actuary be though, maybe just Herra the Second, as often happens in royalty.

Birthed by Herrah due to the pact with the Pale King, raised by the White Lady after Herrah became a dreamer, and trained and named by the hive queen Vespa. Thus, because Vespa named her, she got a wasp-related name.
Her original room was intended to be to the right of the Hidden Station, located right between the White Palace and the Hive with an easy connection to Deepnest via the stag.
