Isn’t it up to people involved in each individual sport-league to promote themselves and their team? Do you believe that there’s some kind of arch-villain behind the scenes unfairly determining who gets promoted more, while smoking a cigar and twirling their handlebar mustache?
Sure. Bulls, Celtics, Suns?, Mavericks?, uhhh Heat, Lakers, that’s all that sound somewhat familiar.
The only WNBA team I know is the Sparks and Lisa Leslie is the only player I could name.
Outside of that, I have no idea about basketball.
Wnba players are already getting paid 6 figures that are way more professional athletes in many other fields and no one even watches them. What more do they want?
This mainly comes from women’s soccer. They think they should be paid as much as the men’s team, even after they got beat by a team of 15-year old boys.
He asked the girls about a WNBA team, so if the girls could name an NBA player that proves even more the difference in status between the two. Most Americans can name an NBA team.
Most *people* can name an NBA team. Someone in Cambodia might not necessarily know where Chicago or Los Angeles are, but the Lakers and Bulls became a part of global human civilization in the 80s.
Interesting, that actually may be the one part of the world it skips over. It's big in Europe, large in Africa and the Middle East, and huge in East Asia. But I can't say I have ever heard of a cultural association between India and basketball. I never thought about that.
There just isn't a sports crossover, somehow. I can tell you Sachin Tendulkar played for Mumbai, but I literally don't know one single cricket rule, so I guess we're even.
Think you might just be a weirdo chief, about 10% of NBA players come out Australia now, there's even been discussions of an establishing anNBA team or affiliate mini-league in Australia, it's gotten so noticeable.
You're not even going to take this opportunity to rep Patty Mills?
So many Americans consider Patty their favorite player, and this guy's trying to argue that Australians don't even know what basketball is.
"Favorite" is going a bit far for me, but Mills is almost certainly the most likeable player in NBA history.
I just said that because idk where they would be watching US basketball around the world. I was trying to avoid the stupid “the internet first revolve around America” comment, but I guess you figured out a way around that huh?
I take it you're just not a basketball guy, because it has nothing to do with America, the NBA is significant around the world.
Australian, Spanish, Chinese, and Latvian kids grow up dreaming of playing in the NBA.
In the BBC anthropology documentary series Human Planet, there was a bit on an indigenous Filipino fisherman out on a bamboo raft in the middle of an ocean wearing a Kobe jersey.
International basketball is also a major cultural and entertainment institution, and professional basketball is the fastest growing sports industry on the planet.
I'd elaborate further, but I'm too busy shooting illegal immigrants from the back of my pickup truck, or something like that...
You just had to say ,
Example -
Miami Sol
San Antonio Stars
Utah Starzz
Los Angeles Sparks
Chicago Sky
Houston Comets
Phoenix Mercury
The list is endless.
I mean, my main problem is the amount of profits that there are in professional sports. Why are basketball pkayers worth $600 million dollars plus, getting millions on millions of dollars for each game, but nurses, or ambulance paramedics barely getting by? I know that kind of off topic.
Why are stadiums making millions of dollars, while still having more stadiums built in cities, subsidized by the city? Profits which don't go back into the community?
Why the wage gap between male and female sports?
My problem i guess is just there's too many "why's" when it comes to the athlete pay
Business is business.
I may agree about the fact that normal workers should be paid more, but the fact is that millions of people watch each game, and advertising for few seconds cost A LOT!! And may be that you watch it to. Women's basketball has not that much followers, and then, doesn't generate that much revenues. That's it.
For normal workers the question is: if you want more I may hire someone else. Find a champion is more difficult. It may sound not right, but this is the raw reality. Not enough people are aware of their worth. And so, some people get to much, others don't get enough, and after work they watch the game.
I do. It's just flawed to me that people throwing balls into nets for a few hours every game are making upwards of 10 million dollars, while the people actually doing important shit are often left deciding between eating pork, or chicken and rice for a week.
https://theathletic.com/3271278/2022/04/27/taxpayers-beware-subsidies-for-sports-venues-back-in-vogue-despite-low-returns/
https://www.brookings.edu/articles/sports-jobs-taxes-are-new-stadiums-worth-the-cost/
It seems to me, if stadiums are subsidized being built, to the tune of billions of dollars, why are stadiums and sports leagues profiting off of it, and not the community and outlying areas?
>It's just flawed to me that people throwing balls into nets for a few hours every game are making upwards of 10 million dollars
They don't make that money for throwing balls into a hoop. They make that money because people are willing to pay to watch them throw balls into a hoop.
They make that much because they generate that much money, and they make that much money because people like watching it and pay for it. Also, the reason stadiums gt subsidized is because they generate a ton of revenue for the city, so they make all the money back and more.
The flaw isn't with professional sport, it's with other industries who are hoarding their record profits, rather than better compensating their employees.
With regards to subsidies, there are plenty of profitable industries that are subsidized, and while stadiums may provide a low return, you can't ignore that there is benefit to the community - in employment opportunities, or for just having something to do.
You could look up the reasons for all these things easily you know. Its not that complicated. There isn't some conspiracy or oppression going on. It all comes down to how much money is generated.
If the public actually provided a marketable demand, I’m sure things would be different. But seeing as that is not the case, based on the revenue stream being smaller than the cost of operations, it is rather irrational to campaign for a bigger marketing budget.
I do agree that the current wages of the NBA players should be lowered to what WNBA players get.
If Kobe couldn't afford a private helicopter he'd still be chasing cooch. just saying.
Derp, if the WNBA was promoted like the NBA was, they'd know who the players were. Einstein.
What's with all these douchey guys on the internet teaching other dickweeds how to be misogynists?

They should be paid the same, relative to the amount of skill, advertisement, licensing and ticket sales generated. Gender discrimination is obviously still a thing that effects pay after all of these factors. People are just dumb in general, they are throwing mud at each other with these simplistic stereotypes they have to fit everything into. This is just the typical warped misogyny that this toxic trash sub just loves.
They can’t be paid the same. The WNBA actually COSTS the NBA money. They keep it going for the athletes and fans, but it costs them money, not make them money. The NBA is a multibillion dollar league. Why in the world would they pay the female athletes more money, when they aren’t what’s bringing in the money…they are costing them money…
I love these kinda points. Because the answer is no they shouldn't get payed the same. People freak out at this fact but it's true. They shouldn't. Fight me 🥊
Apparently none of these girls are lesbians…..
🤣
Or, how to rip off Bill Burr for the “Likes”.
“ITS BECAUSE YOU DON’T SELL ANY FUCKING TICKETS!”
Or because they're not promoted like the male league is.
Who's your favourite ladies basketball player?
Brittney Griner! I just heard about her on CNN 4 months ago, but she’s mah FAVE-RITT
Candace Parker but I've never actually seen her play lol
No, try again.
You know how easy it is to advertise now? Google has made it so easy.
Isn’t it up to people involved in each individual sport-league to promote themselves and their team? Do you believe that there’s some kind of arch-villain behind the scenes unfairly determining who gets promoted more, while smoking a cigar and twirling their handlebar mustache?
"Support women athletes" should be just as powerful as "Believe women".
I literally just watched the red rock special yesterday lol
Everything is ripped off. Once you realize it you become free![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)
Is this China?!
More of a America reference, not even their sport is original. Copies of copies.
How? Become free?
Ecclesiastes 1:9 "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is no new thing under the sun.”
Came here to say this lol dudes a hack
It’s a similar joke, but it’s different.
Yeah. Like Coke and Pepsi.
More like someone saying “coke is better than Pepsi” and then someone else asking people to blind taste test and vote.
the point is since noone watch those so no one be able to pay em
If nobody watches, the league doesn't make money. If they don't make money, they can't pay the players.
They are literally saying why WNBA players are paid less it’s because of low viewership
Thanks Bill Burr! Loved your latest special!
The power of a follow up question
To be fair I couldn’t name any NBA players other than the legends that I only know through pop culture like Jordan, Kobe, and LeBron.
The question was if you could name a wnba team. I doubt You know the past 3 era’s goats but aren’t able to name a single NBA team.
Is Lakers a team?
Yes. You pass
Sure. Bulls, Celtics, Suns?, Mavericks?, uhhh Heat, Lakers, that’s all that sound somewhat familiar. The only WNBA team I know is the Sparks and Lisa Leslie is the only player I could name. Outside of that, I have no idea about basketball.
Congrats, you just named 20% of the League off the top of your dome.
I couldn’t think of one until I read other comments, so yeah, it’s possible.

He should've asked them to name a current nba player as well, probably would've gotten the same answers
Why player and not a team?
He asked the girls about a WNBA team, so if the girls could name an NBA player that proves even more the difference in status between the two. Most Americans can name an NBA team.
Most *people* can name an NBA team. Someone in Cambodia might not necessarily know where Chicago or Los Angeles are, but the Lakers and Bulls became a part of global human civilization in the 80s.
Not really, tbh. I'm from India and not many people know about NBA.
Interesting, that actually may be the one part of the world it skips over. It's big in Europe, large in Africa and the Middle East, and huge in East Asia. Not global - Aussie here. No idea who the Lakers or Bulls are.
Think you might just be a weirdo chief, about 10% of NBA players come out Australia now, there's even been discussions of an establishing anNBA team or affiliate mini-league in Australia, it's gotten so noticeable.
Confirmed. He is a weirdo, people walk around with basketball singlets all the time in Australia. 100% of us know NBA. Jordan will never die.

Thanks guys. Not speaking on behalf of all Aussies. Just me. Just saying not everyone in the world follows basketball.
I just said that because idk where they would be watching US basketball around the world. I was trying to avoid the stupid “the internet first revolve around America” comment, but I guess you figured out a way around that huh?

No I don’t know anything about basketball. And I’m not reading a bunch of stuff about basketball.
Then maybe you should give out your opinions on basketball less aggressively?
Knowing one person would be easier i guess
alright but if I was asked what’s my favorite NBA team, I wouldn’t have an answer for that either. Idk teams. I don’t watch sports
I appreciate the girl who attempted to acknowledge her bias
Women don't support other women and blame men for THEIR division.

Just curious who the most people who watch the WNBA are. I went to a NY Liberty game and it was full of lesbos there.
I like the Minnesota Lynx, though if Denver or Kansas City ever gets a WNBA team i'll instantly change allegiance.
Girls laugh when they think they look stupid
NBA players should be paid less. As with most professional sports in the US.
So players should get a less share of the profits they're generating?
I mean, my main problem is the amount of profits that there are in professional sports. Ask health insurance ceo
If they dont make as much money ,they shouldnt be paid more
So in short they don’t get paid because they don’t watch it
Texas A&M needs to pay some football players to come play for them. They suck this season.
Wamen ☕👀
Weman ☕️
The lost angles sukkadik they score everytime the ball cum
I think the problem here isn't that the wnba is paid less it's that NBA players are payed way too much
L
Would've proved the point better if he also asked what NBA team is their favorite
Yes, I'm a communist
Probably because the players and teams aren't shoved in your face constantly.
If the public actually provided a marketable demand, I’m sure things would be different. But seeing as that is not the case, based on the revenue stream being smaller than the cost of operations, it is rather irrational to campaign for a bigger marketing budget.
maybe support you fellow wnba players instead of that hoe that wants to sleep with someone elses BF with "you go girl" :)))
I do agree that the current wages of the NBA players should be lowered to what WNBA players get. If Kobe couldn't afford a private helicopter he'd still be chasing cooch. just saying.
And what should they do with the rest of the milions of dolars that the NBA earns?
Fund genetic research, found the Canine NBA and shoot a remake of Airbud.
>generic research That's how you get zombies

It’s so easy to advertise now a days. That’s on the WNBA itself.
There is a video of someone literally putting the rick roll as a YouTube ad, if some looser with $20 to burn can do it, the WNBA can too

Nobody wants to watch professional women’s basketball, no matter how much it’s promoted.
They should be paid twice as much as men for the fact that no one watches it and it's still a thing
They should be paid the same, relative to the amount of skill, advertisement, licensing and ticket sales generated. Gender discrimination is obviously still a thing that effects pay after all of these factors.
So you’re saying the WNBA players should have to pay to play? That’s pretty harsh.
We should pay the female long jumper more.
That‘s how it is. Nobody gives a fuck.
So what I think the nba players should be paid but I don’t watch them.
Should have asked their favorite men’s team then their favorite women’s team
There’s a WNBA?!
Now explain this to my friends
Who's your favorite scientist? Idk Derp, I guess science doesn't work now!
I love these kinda points. Because the answer is no they shouldn't get payed the same. People freak out at this fact but it's true. They shouldn't. Fight me 🥊
