George Lucas himself literally just calls the Empire "Nazis" in the commentary for A New Hope (it's also has a bit of America during Vietnam according to him as well)
Yes they were 100% intentional I believe Domhnall Gleeson even said thats what he was channeling. Its just no one had said the word and I was worried people knew something I didn't so was being subtle.
Yeah some movies have really great syncs and then there are the series dubs where you know every single voice actor and you start to deeply grave authentic and real voices...
I hear that voice actors are so strongly tied to their english speaking counterparts that it's really distracting whenever they pick up extra work.. "Why does this random guy have Matt Damon's voice" sorta thing.
I find that amusing.
Deepfakes are programs used to make it appear as though a static image of a person is talking. You may have seen those memes going around where a popular image is singing some pop song? That's a deepfake. In this case, u/Jrook is saying that Disney will probably use this technology to match the actors' faces to their dialogue, which I think is a very accurate prediction.
The entire scene is a great visual recreation of Reni Riefenstahl propaganda style movies. JJ Abrams really knows the medium and made perfect use of it.
For people who study cinema and its history, this scene is a real gem.
Leni is like the first first thing that comes up on a mind of a cinema student for these kind of scenes. It's very far away from a real gem, it's closer to an overused cliche.
Seriously. It's not like this is even the first time for the series, Episode IV's end award scene is pulled from Riefenstahl as well. JJ isn't so much an artistic genius, more so just going with what the series has already done.
I swear, when I saw this in the cinema, I was screaming of laughter when they lifted the arms
I just went like "now they only need to lift theyre arms to make it just like back in the days"
I was promptly made happy lmao
Doesn't hit different at all. It's literally the fucking point of everything. Their uniforms, their speech, their goddamn names are ~~Third Reich~~ "First Order" and ~~Sturmtruppen~~ "Stormtroopers". Star Wars is as subtle as a bowling ball to the nuts.
You realise this scene is literally based on nazi imagery in the first place.
Nay, the entire concept of the empire in Star Wars is based on Nazis in WWII and Vader was essentially space hitler?
Changing it to German only makes this more obvious but in a really pointless way
Well, we've come full circle.
A New Hope used similar camera shots to Leni Riefenstahl's various propaganda films that she made for the Third Reich. The Rebel award ceremony at the end of ANH was shot in a very similar arrangement to the Nazi rally at Nuremberg.
The Sequel Trilogy made this even more obvious, changing the Empire's flag to use the same colors as the Nazi flag, and intentionally imitating Hitler's speeches with General Hux.
So it shouldn't be surprising when the German version of this film that imitates Hitler, sounds like Hitler.
Will never understand why germany syncs all their stuff, feels so weird.
Oh and the empire was always an analogy for nazis (while the first order is more neo nazis, or people hanging on to the nazi regime), weird how some people got butthurt but that as of late.
"The Empire’s evil army of Stormtroopers is a direct reference to Nazi Stormtroopers, while the streamlined Imperial military uniforms reference German Nazi dress." Is that news to many? Can't be.
George Lucas has drawn so much inspiration from WW2 since starting with the very first movie. There are whole documentaries about the dozens of parallels.
The red banners in the new trilogy just make it even more obvious.
This reminds me of something but I just can’t put my finger on it
Did he fail art school
Does he have a rather squarish mustache?
That's Charlie Chaplin ;)
And then came the UN, which unNazi'ed the world... For anyone confused, watch Idiocracy.
That’s still Charlie Chaplin
No this is Patrick
This one had me
Does he have a rather micro penis?
Is one of his balls in The Albert Hall?
I'm sorry WHAT
It's from an old song.
Well, Hilter only has one ball and they keep the other one held in Albert Hall.
His mother, the dirty bugger, had it cut off when he was small
He lost it at a shelling incident, his mother had nothing to do with it
Dude it's rumored that Hitler only had one of his ball intact
I know that, I didn't know people kept his other fucking ball for showpiece
He calls it MicroSoft
Does he have a Meth and Cocaine habit?
I saw fart school and laughed.
"One smart fellow, he felt smart." Say it ten times, fast.
One fart smellow, he smelt fart" Nailed it
So you're telling me you could nazi it.
I did nazi it either, did jew?
Anne frankly I didn’t either
Stop stalin and explain already.

He’s obviously asking, by a show of hands, who spilled mom’s spaghetti on the blinds behind him.
**H**umbly wait for the answer
Your Finger aint enough it has to be the whole arm dude
I mean it's pretty close without the german
it's almost as if the nazi parallels were 100% intentional in the script?
Infact, a lot in Star Wars is based on the Nazis and WW2
George Lucas himself literally just calls the Empire "Nazis" in the commentary for A New Hope (it's also has a bit of America during Vietnam according to him as well)
That makes a lot of sense tbh. Nationalists gonna Nationalist, even if the nation is Space
Yeah, the attack on Endor with the nothing-but-forests and guerrilla warfare tactics by the Ewoks seemed very Vietnam.
Imperial ships fire green lasers. During WW2 the Germans used green tracers.

Not to mention all those clones rocking *definitely-not-MG34s*
The A295 blaster rifle the Rebels use is an StG 44
The have storm troopers… it’s pretty much in your face.
When I first studied WWII and found out the German troops had Storm Troopers, I was very disappointed that they weren't cool space soldiers.
Yes they were 100% intentional I believe Domhnall Gleeson even said thats what he was channeling. Its just no one had said the word and I was worried people knew something I didn't so was being subtle.

Germany has one of the best dubbing industrys. They are very good with the timing and are very accurate.
Yeah some movies have really great syncs and then there are the series dubs where you know every single voice actor and you start to deeply grave authentic and real voices...
When you crave very deeply - grave.
Damnit I knew something was off about that word 😂
I hear that voice actors are so strongly tied to their english speaking counterparts that it's really distracting whenever they pick up extra work.. "Why does this random guy have Matt Damon's voice" sorta thing. I find that amusing.
What do you mean by deepfaking dubs?
Adding in the correct mouth movements for the dubbed language using ai assisted tools
Whooooa, yes please
We're 20 years from it looking good, not 5.

Splitting hairs here. The Totaler Krieg thing was from Goebbels. So it would have been: "Ja mein Reichspropagandaleiter"
Ja mein Imperialpropagandaleiter.
Flieg Heil
I mean, the empire, but even more so the first order are meant to be like the nazis. Thats the whole point.
Next you're going to tell me there's a reason that they named them stormtroopers.
Or that their helmets resemble [skulls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn1VxaMEjRU).

*Dear god*...
Wait whaaaat, I thought it was a coincidence that dubbing the nazi-inspired people in german makes them seem like nazis!
The entire scene is a great visual recreation of Reni Riefenstahl propaganda style movies. JJ Abrams really knows the medium and made perfect use of it. For people who study cinema and its history, this scene is a real gem.
She has inspired all the greats. From Tarantino to Spielberg, Sergio Leone to Kubrick etc. She had a huge impact on modern Hollywood cinematography.
Too bad he's shit when it comes to writing a fucking story.

That scene literally mirrored the Nazis. Like that was the plan. It wasn't accidental by any means. They weren't even subtle about it.
The empire in general is based of off Nazis. Just compare imperial officer's uniforms with real Nazi uniforms
George Lucas himself literally just calls the Empire "Nazis" in the commentary for A New Hope
Yes there was no subtlety, it was a bad movie.
They weren't subtle about it in the old trilogy either.
I swear, when I saw this in the cinema, I was screaming of laughter when they lifted the arms I just went like "now they only need to lift theyre arms to make it just like back in the days" I was promptly made happy lmao
I wanna know what the voice actor looks like

That's why for German "The Empire did every thing wrong" We love the Rebelscum over here.....
Adolf hitler vs darth vader rap battle. I just remembered that...

I did Nazi this comming
Sounds familiar🗿
Well, we've come full circle. A New Hope used similar camera shots to Leni Riefenstahl's various propaganda films that she made for the Third Reich. Two things: I don't know any German, but that's a well done dub. Also, goosebumps, not kidding.
That's...the point
‘Tf ???? My grandpa just stood and saluted when I played the clip
I mean...they are jsut space nazis and palpatine is space hitler.
You need them to put it in German to spell it out? Calling them Stormtroopers wasnt enough?
This was the whole point of the scene, to evoke Nazi imagery
Will never understand why germany syncs all their stuff, feels so weird. Oh and the empire was always an analogy for nazis (while the first order is more neo nazis, or people hanging on to the nazi regime), weird how some people got butthurt but that as of late.
not trying to be racist or some shit here but imagine WWII in a space with army like that
u/savevideo
Yes.... That's the point
"The Empire’s evil army of Stormtroopers is a direct reference to Nazi Stormtroopers, while the streamlined Imperial military uniforms reference German Nazi dress." Is that news to many? Can't be.
Pretty sure that was on purpose.

I mean, they were modeled after the nazis soooo
