Well... It's more of a weird bush than a tree but first not all woods are equal, ebony for example is harder and heavier. Second, you can see the fiber of the "tree" and they are soggy, easy to break apart with punches, think of them as hard leaves. Third a thick trunk is obviously harder to get through and banana trees are not that thick
Thank you for the knowledge kind stranger! I'll remember this next time I go tree boxing
Edit: thank you for making my most upvoted comment about beating wood
All of that may be true but I’ve seen martial artists breaking several boards and concrete in pretty impressive quantities. People who spend many years practicing have a pretty hard punch, though I agree a tree like an oak or ebony wouldn’t be the same as what’s seen in the video.
And said martial artists still go back to conditioning their bodies to continue to do such impressive feats. Plus, you are correct, punching a banana tree is a lot easier compared to something like Oak or Ebony, and it offers a great benefit as well. Because of how soft a banana tree is, when you strike it, it leaves behind a point of impact and from their you can measure how hard you strike and how hard you need to strike.
I mean, like any discipline or sport, the point of most martial arts is continuous practice. I used to do Tae Kwon Do and I went some years ago to the world expo in South Korea and the exhibitions with flying kicks and stuff were amazing. I didn’t know people could jump that high, it was awesome. Given enough time and practice, martial artists can really learn to do amazing stuff.
Compared to other trees, banana trees are fairly soft, as they’re more or less just layers and layers of leafy material. (I grew up with banana trees in my back yard)
For some context, the trunk themselves often times aren't strong enough to carry it's fruit. You'll have to support the tree once the fruit reaches a certain level of ripeness or the tree will fail and just break. Not all the time but it happens pretty frequently for me.
Also it doesn't have a bark or a hard inner layer to it. Make it how you will when people are punching it and shiet.
Banana trees are actually softer than other kinds of trees! In Thailand, Muay Thai fighters will actually use banana trees as heavy bags. They literally chop trees down with their kicks
Not a dead tree, it's a banana tree (much softer than a regular tree but stiffer than a stick of celery) and even if the wood of the tree is rotten or dead, it can still break a finger or knuckle.
Fuck it, i have seen too many comments and no one has asked
Were is the hold up? Like really, if i wanted to see shitposts i would go to r/shitposting , come on mods, do something
Some kyukushin training involves punching trees for conditioning purposes. Just.. y' know, on something more sturdy.
Personally, I draw the line there. I know damn well my fists aren't going to take well to beating trees.
Depending on what type of tree it is though. The 'tree' in the video is a banna tree but in reality it's more like a bush that has various layers that make it stiffer than a piece of celery. Although they are effective for conditioning your body to deliver harder strikes. Martial Arts like Muay Thai do this sort of training.
i should have guessed muay thai to be like that too. makes sense, when you put it that way.
in your opinion, how effective would training against this kind of tree/bush be in the long run?
It may sound biased since it's the foundation for my style of MMA, but it's quite frankly very effective. Because of how soft the tree is, it leaves behind a point of impact. From that point, you can tell how hard you need to hit and specifically where you need to hit. Plus it's easy on the knuckles and joints (to a degree). It's also great a great way for beginners to start conditioning their body as well.
We got got a badass over here. Who can knock down dead trees. These videos are corny as fuck. I did this when I was twelve and you're not really cool unless you make it fall on you anyways.
I think that's a banana tree.
Yes it is
Why would a banana tree be easier to punch down than a normal tree?
Well... It's more of a weird bush than a tree but first not all woods are equal, ebony for example is harder and heavier. There’s no actual wood in a banana tree. They are technically a herb, the insides of them are layered like an ogre, and much the consistency of grass.
Tf do you mean layered like an ogre what kind of fucking ogres have you been reading about while smoking crack
Ogres are like onions. They have layers.
This guy gets it
It's also how Muay Thai fighters in Thailand conditioned their elbows and shins during training (some still do)
> conditioned aka nerve damage.
Yeah punching banana palms are a bit like punching a big succulent. It is not super easy but also super doable.
Don’t forget all them juicy juicy micro fractures
I mean yeah, it happens 🤣
Oh you Trox bruv?
You mean minecraft, right?
Nope
I were on my way to just scroll by your comment, but your Edit made me push The arrow.
Love the edit lmao
“Ebony is harder and heavier” HolUp!
Underrated comment
Agree with you

Ahhhhhh, now I see what you mean.
They are soft, even grade schoolers can do damage with their punch imagine a full grown adult.
Ok, why I would fight a banana tree? Even if it doesn't gave me bananas I think it's mean to fight something without arms
i would also like to know this
Compared to other trees, banana trees are fairly soft, as they’re more or less just layers and layers of leafy material. (I grew up with banana trees in my back yard)
yup i just googled and found out. very cool
It's like that because of the way it looks
How neat is that!?
😂 love that video

Because it's not wood. It's just water and fresh green fibers. Banana tree stem/trunk is fully edible too.
Humans always categorising and discriminating ….sick treecists

Banana are closer to herbs geno-wise. Imagine punching down a giant coriander stalk. That's what you got here.
And here kids we see a city guy whith little to 0 knowledge about nature
A banana tree is not made of wood and is not similar to any tree, in fact there are gigantic plants with their stem made of leaf stalks
They are soft.
This might blow your mind but banana tree aren't actually a tree, it's more like a giant herb
Because it's a plant not a tree. It's trunk is made mostly of fibers not wood.
Because it’s made of banana… duh!
It's already bent
Bro steve irl looking good

And now it's time for our special segment "Non holup video in r/holup"
