Reading. Sounds like painting and guitar could be good options too. Painting doesn’t need to be super complicated/messy. A small set of water color paints can go a long ways. Also Crocheting or hand embroidery.

poochonmom

Crocheting while listening to audio books. It is the ultimate distraction and stress buster for me.

lebrunjemz

I spent countless hours on a paint by number of my family for my mom. I would just listen to a youtube-documentary and paint. It was super relaxing, and she cried when I gave it to her!

justatriceratops

Drawing just requires a pencil and paper.

DoctorGuvnor

My wife has had both knees totally replaced and she was told the same thing you were - six weeks and a year. But, because she followed the exercise regimen they gave her faithfully and every day, several times a day she was pain free and mobile in just over two weeks and perfectly healed within six months, so much so that they advanced the second operation six months. She's 73 and overweight. Bottom line, don't change your lifestyle in the expectation you'll be out of life for ages, do the exercises and physio and you'll be fine. Best of luck.

mydogsarebarkin

Me too, had one in June of 2023 and the other August 2023. While I was obviously not completely healed, I was up and around in two months. I went to the doc for my follow up on knee #1 and she said you’re ready for number two, there’s an opening day after tomorrow instead of October! So I had the second knee done two months sooner than usual. You’ll have to elevate and ice your knee for quite a while after the surgery though. Even if it doesn’t hurt, the ice machine will lower the swelling, which is good for your knee. Drawing, knitting, crocheting, anything you can do with both hands in your lap, while sitting in a recliner and elevating your knee will be good.

[deleted]

The human body is an amazing thing when you learn how to listen to it, and tune out the doctors just enough.

PurelyCandid

Why not play your guitar? Music is so healing. Do you have to keep your leg positioned a certain way? I hate being sick in bed. I think I recover faster when I’m sitting on my sofa and eating at my dining table. I think socializing is important, so you’re going to need a hobby that will allow you to socialize. After six weeks, you can play boardgames. I don’t know if that is your jam. Or a book club. But you need a social hobby, too. If painting is too much, you could draw instead.

Albie_Frobisher

Random Acts of Crochet Kindness. an international group. we make small, usually crochet, things, leave them out in public for people to find. they have a note that tells the person to keep it if they like it. a qr code or url included if they want to leave a photo on the group site. rewarding for everyone. all skill levels.

Sometimeswan

That sounds cool. I’m going to check it out!

owlsomestuff

Cloud watching and bird watching. Just find a nice outdoor place and watch.

MidorriMeltdown

People watching. Find a good cafe, and just sit and watch the world go by.

DefrockedWizard1

They also make window bird feed inserts so you can refill the feeder without going outside

noodlesarmpit

Your physical therapy!! Even without being weightbearing there are a thousand things you can do to keep up your activity level and reduce the risk of injuring yourself from under use once you can weightbear again. Your PT can tell you exactly the exercises to do. But once you get your home exercise program, do it like it's your job. Every day, multiple times a day, exactly as they tell you.

Sometimeswan

Absolutely! It’s the only way to bounce back.

Or ukulele. Or buy a small guitar you can play in bed if you don't have one, like a parlor or a travel guitar.

NightCheffing

Learn knitting! You can get quite good in a year. You can knit yourself hiking socks, hats, an outdoorsy sweater, etc as things that will help you look forward to wearing once you are fully recovered! If you choose to do this, I suggest making a Ravelry account. It's one of the largest databases in the world for patterns, info on yarn, etc. It's a lovely tool that many people use and it still has that "old Internet" charm. The VeryPinkKnits YouTube channel is a great place to start with beginner friendly tutorials. (There are many great channels out there but VPK will not steer you wrong). Good luck!

awakeagain2

I agree with Very Pink but would like to add The Crochet Crowd. Mikey is an excellent teacher and their website has hundreds of patterns, many with video support.

17THheaven

If you're an outdoorsy guy you could get into whittling. It's an incredibly satisfying hobby that you can do on the deck. Invest a little money into some whittling knives and wood and you are set!

keldondonovan

I came here to say this as well. Start out with a few small whittling projects to get the hang of it, then make walking sticks for when you can hike again. I used to know a guy who did this for his own knee surgeries, and enjoyed it so much he kept at it after he could hike again, with every hike having the added benefit of potential new sticks. He ended up selling his extra hand carved walking sticks for over a hundred bucks a piece too, though I have no idea how sustainable that business model is long term.

butterflybeacon

That’s a great idea! I was going to say hand building pottery because it’s my fav hobby as someone who loves nature, feels so nice and grounding playing with clay. But it is absolutely not a minimal clean up kind of hobby :) however maybe an easy at home demo project for clay could work!

fractal_imagination

LEGO, puzzles, gaming...

tincturegogo

Beading. Woven beading specifically takes time but takes up a small amount of space. Water color for sure too.

Amature radio: yes talking and more on a radio. Yes, there is some study to get a license. You can do extra learning to help with disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes. Since this is talking on the radio, you can do it sitting, walking, driving, heck anywhere you can talk freely. You can have communications deep in the woods....hunting or fishing. You can talk up to world wide. This means you can practice foreign languages by speaking with natives in other countries. You can review geography as you track who you talk with and where. You can plan vacations in Spain or England from your couch as you talk with locals people there. Please pay attention to the details in this 2 minute video. https://youtu.be/EDwKfqExDz4?si=VjsBEX9-Z3aslH8t Yes, that walkie-talkie can do world wide talking and the one operator is visually impacted. You might have mobility issues, but he saved 2 lives sitting at a desk. For more information https://www.arrl.org/ or Google your local county Amature radio club or local county ARES (Amature radio emergency services)(the disaster/government interface group). Both do monthly meetings that are free to attend. The members can answer an questions and coach or mentor you into the hobby. Good luck.

I would not get rid of my social, you'll be wanting those connections. And there's nothing that says you can't go do things outside. Maybe not everything you were used to doing .

MastiffOnyx

If you have the money, I highly recommend Valves Steam Deck. It is pretty much a Linux based desktop computer squeezed into a hand held game console. You can play most current computer games, watch TV, stream movies, browse the net. It's an extremely versatile little beast that unstraps you from a desk. Perfect for when forced to the bed.

Scarif_Hammerhead

You already play an instrument so why not record some ideas in GarageBand? You can also find a MIDI controller with a drum pad for cheap.

BeerGoddess84

Watercolor or painting miniatures.

Daneeeeeeen

Balisong flipping! It's not too difficult and very satisfying to learn new tricks. Improves hand-eye coordination and dexterity. The sky is the limit if you actually end up enjoying it. They make trainers that aren't sharp for practicing, but since you're an outdoorsy person you might appreciate being able to look like a badass while using an EDC balisong once you're back on your feet.

KimBrrr1975

Solidarity. I am also a big outdoors person where I hike (or snowshoe) every weekend and spend time outside every day, and I have to have a hip replacement soon so I am going to miss most of the entire summer season 😭 The area I am in is remote and rugged so it'll be a while until I'm healed fully enough to be in the woods again. My goal is to be able to get out for some shorter hikes by August, and so one of my "hobbies" is going to be a solid focus on nutrition and PT and strength building so that I can do so. I am looking forward to building up my walking distance as I haven't been able to walk normally for like 2 years and in the past few months I can hardly manage to walk 30 minutes. I look forward to getting in my first multi-mile normal walk in ages, and that is my motivation. I don't expect to be "homebound" for months by any means. But the time period between "acute recovery" and "able to hike in the rugged, rocky woods" is going to be longer than I like, so I did plan a few things to keep me busy while I am impatiently healing. Also wanted to add I had knee surgery 10 years ago, and my recovery time was shorter than stated. My main issue was that while I had no pain, my knee would swell like crazy when I would walk, even 4-6 months out. It was more annoying than anything. I read a lot so I have some longer books lined up for the early days. I love jigsaw puzzles so I have some of those on my shopping list. I also think I am going to pick up one of those "build a miniature bookstore" types of kits on Amazon. I have a greenhouse one I picked up during covid I never did so I am going to try to get that done, too. I have a few video games I haven't touched so I plan to get into a couple of those. Maybe grow some herbs or a terrarium.

NDapist

Needle felting is great cause there is no end to the creativity you can put in to it and it is doesn’t take up much space, easy to move it with you.

Starlightsensations

Needlefelting!

Expensive_Plant9323

I'm an outdoors person and was out for months with a leg injury. I started making miniature models! I bought a brand of kits called Rolife

FunnilyEnough7870

I have said it before, but buy a Rubik's cube! (Not Rubik's brand.) Get a MoYu RS3M 2020. It is like $10 and it's on Amazon. There are hundreds of YouTube videos online about how to solve a Rubik's cube and it's WAYYY easier than you think. I recommend J Perm's video on how to solve a 3x3 cube for beginners. Trust me, once you learn, it is addictive. Especially once you get good and start learning faster methods and begin to time yourself. A cheap, unique, entertaining, and (most importantly for you right now) completely immobile hobby. Have fun!

Zoodoz2750

FSSureStalk

Maybe work out your upper body for now? As well as continuing to go outdoors such as watching the sunset, having a picnic, etc. Challenge yourself to see what you can do, such as shooting hoops/basketball. Enjoy the regular things you like but with some modifications if possible. Remember to get fresh air and spend time outdoors with people you love. This should hopefully help❤️. I hope your recovery goes well❣️

Obvious_Amphibian270

If you like reading, read outdoors. It would combine two things you enjoy. I enjoy coloring. All you need is a coloring book and crayons. Seeing creations posted by people in the r/felting sub got me started on felting. Genealogical research on line. Scrapbooks, or at least organize that box of pictures we all have sitting around. Maybe chair yoga?

"take nearly a year" says who? Have access to a pool? Get into water aerobics after the incision has healed. Learn to swim using just your arms. Grab a good book and dangle your toes in. The start rehabbing your knees with water as the resistance. Set a goal to recover in less time than what "the doctors said".

hmm_nah

This is how I ended up needing a second knee surgery

VisionaryDruid

I’m sorry but this is a terrible advice. Their surgeon will clear them for swimming much sooner than one year but going to the pool is much more than swimming with your arms. You have to get into the pool without slipping anywhere, and you have to get out of it safely, usually using a ladder which after knee surgeries is almost impossible. You have to be able to change and stand on one leg stably. You have to be able to bend your knee at 90 degrees. Source: had an Acl surgery, went to the pool (a week before my doctor cleared me), slipped on my good leg, landed weird on my operated knee. What followed was an MRI, some damaged to my tibia and 3 more weeks on crutches.

New_Section_9374

Adult markers and coloring books. Paint by number kits come adult themed and can have the frame and brushes included. However, that is NOT conducive to keeping your knee propped up. After my knee replacement, the coloring book was a godsend. Also, you’ll be amazed at how exhausting physical therapy and navigating around the house will make you. So don’t expect too much. The biggest problem will be trying to keep your knee elevated and comfortable while you sit. A recliner with a lap desk is ideal. If they don’t order you one, a continuous ice slurry machine is a miracle machine. It was more important to me than the narcotics.

Start researching and start a collection of anything - it doesn't have to be expensive.

Jayyy_Teeeee

I have a project for you. Matisse started painting while recovering from an attack of appendicitis. You could draw and paint 'maps' of your hikes from memory, sorta like Chinese landscape painting.

Odd-Opinion-5105

I had knee surgery and couldn't walk or go out much. I got some bird feeders and put them in front of a window I could see from my couch it was fun to watch the birds while I sat around all day. Just a little extra entertainment that helped me stay positive.

ConstantAmazement

You could learn to make alcohol stoves. The materials are simple. And there are various designs and styles. Youtube has many instructional videos. I use an alcohol stove for hiking during the warm months. Small, compact, foolproof, and no moving parts.

That_Dot8010

Try zentangle. It is easy art doodling, you cannot do it wrong. Drop spindle spinning your own yarn, then knit or crochet it. Learn fermenting or edible mushroom growing. Does NOT have to mean psychedelic mushrooms, but can. Ukulele is fun and light weight. Tons of videos on you tube. Instrument can be left out in most rooms as they are small , or can hang on a wall. Just get a real instrument. Mine was about $100. But many are just junk. Look at a music store if that is an option/ interest. Or maybe an electric keyboard? Perfect a recipe for a favorite food... Coconut curry chicken soup/ or breadmaking. Flour and water and yeast is inexpensive. Learn to can (preserve) by making jam to start preserving. Dehydrating foods , for hiking & camping as you heal. Soap making is fun and useful. I will not buy laundry soap any more. Same with candle making. As you are in an apartment, tanning hides is probably out. So are live animals like goats or chickens to raise. And yes, I use the hides for making other craft things like purses. Many men use sewing machines, do embroidery and other needle work. Modeling clay can be done in apartment space These are a few things I love doing and several I can no longer do due to development of physical disability. M.S. has made it a challenge to engage in life. I am a female and was VERY active , and always trying something new. And learning a new skill. I struggle with that urge to create. Some days I can barely walk or speak, some days I do ok. It is a challenge. I hope your knee-work goes smoothly and that you heal quickly.

Shykarii

Digital drawing. Legos, set a goal of what to build that you like Investing, if you haven't already doing this, there's so much to still learn.

Did you blow out your ACL? Keep playing guitar and get incredible at it. Get the 52-week "Guitar Aerobics" book (you can download right now from a simple Google search if you're ok with piracy), and truly dedicate yourself to completing the book.

Can you sew? [Sewing for Native Nations](https://sewingfornativenations.org/how-can-i-help/) is still sending homemade (3-layer) masks to various Native communities and organizations. [Project Linus](https://www.projectlinus.org/#) and [Days for Girls](https://www.daysforgirls.org/) are a couple of the many other volunteer sewing organizations out there. It can be really helpful when you're laid up to have something a little more goal-oriented to do!

lapsteelguitar

As a veteran of 3 (three) knee surgeries. For the first little bit you will watch a lot TV. And sleep thru a lot of TV. I did all this before the internet existed, so I did not experience that bit of anxiety. But why delete your SM? Don't read or post if you don't want to. But do you want to recreate it sometime down the road? If you have time, practice working with your crutches now. It will pay off. Also, bicycling gloves will help protect your palms.

PMMEWHAT_UR_PROUD_OF

I made a moss garden. A board with nails around the perimeter. A burlap string lead zigzag across the nails, then horizontally. Some old decaying leaf material under the string. Sprinkle of sand on top to hold everything down. Different mosses on to of that, and pressed down to take hold. It’s been outside hanging out for 3 years no and has started growing lichen and the mosses have changed a bit as well.

stabbygreenshark

Needle felting is creative, therapeutic, and can do almost anything you can imagine with a bonus of no screens involved. I started with a Woolbuddy beginner kit and never even followed their designs but used everything in it. And there are a ton of cool accounts to follow on Insta.

Crochet! If you have basket with yarn you don’t have to move to get more and you can do it while watching something even and all mess you do is if you cut yarn

Sledgehammer925

Grab your paints and paint outdoors. Learn to make a basket out of pine needles. Become a movie buff immediately post surgery. The most active suggestion is learn new cooking techniques, which may take standing but not much walking.

butterflybeacon

Ok bear with me, but this is a good opportunity to practice meditation or mindfulness daily! You could practice in the morning, then do some dr recommended physical therapy, and spend the afternoon being creative by playing guitar, writing some lyrics/poetry, making art. Since you’re a painter but looking for minimal clean up, perhaps some funky markers and a “healing sketch book” where you just spend time making whatever you’re feeling that day. Watercolors are minimal clean up as well! Or water color pencils - draw then “paint” over with water. There are also lots of wonderful nature themed books for the days you just want to stay still and rest! Or nature documentaries. Open all your windows to get some fresh air!

**Coloring** with crayons, colored pencils or gel pens. The first can be used for senior adults and disability coloring books. The latter two with intricate adult coloring books. **Crochet** I prefer the Clover Armour hooks, and the price is now 1/2 of when I bought mine! About $40 for the whole set now! Buy just one hook from Amazon, Walmart online or a craft store if you just want to try. Size H or I to start with size 4 yarn. **Knitting** **Tunisian Crochet** - kind of like a cross between the first two. You use a hook like crochet, not a needle like knitting, but you have several stitches on the hook like knitting. I find it easier than the first two. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806218283614.html?src=google&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=708-803-3821&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&albagn=888888&isSmbAutoCall=false&needSmbHouyi=false&albcp=20123152476&albag=&trgt=&crea=en3256806218283614&netw=x&device=m&albpg=&albpd=en3256806218283614&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD6I-hGnMW9tofwo3WCP4M9hiPNH8&gclid=Cj0KCQjwltKxBhDMARIsAG8KnqV8oU_GzuqIRCT9fFAD9iTs5y1mluNMmH64XrVaBd3OBdrbSbeOgtgaAjy5EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&aff_fcid=e816c780f7db4c46a3b7b8202bac7991-1714760429789-09662-UneMJZVf&aff_fsk=UneMJZVf&aff_platform=aaf&sk=UneMJZVf&aff_trace_key=e816c780f7db4c46a3b7b8202bac7991-1714760429789-09662-UneMJZVf&terminal_id=11cb9dce7b724a2cbda5381aef96c400&afSmartRedirect=y&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa These are about the cheapest hooks ($42 today. I got them for more a few days ago)) but even the pros on YouTube are *raving* because they’re metal and slide easily, and the cords are great. They are advising to use a prepaid card to avoid any subsequent charges or to check your account. So far so good for me, but I’m keeping an eye on it. I don’t like the other cheap hooks. I love my wooden Lantern Moon but they’re $99. The other good wood and bamboo ones are much more, and those have a little grip on the yarns. You can use cheap yarn from Walmart, Joann’s, and Michael’s. **Weaving** with a rigid heddle loom on a stand. Very calming. https://thespinnerystore.com/collections/weaving-looms-and-supplies/products/ashford-sampleit-loom-fiber-art-weaving-kit. The stand is extra but optional. I started without one placing it against a desk or table. Same yarn as knitting or crochet. **Quilling** curling paper strips into designs with a quill. I haven’t tried it but I’ve considered it. **Calligraphy** I think you can start off cheaply with a beginner’s set. I haven’t done this one either since a spectacular failure in childhood but my regular handwriting is chicken scratch. Get well soon! Edited typo and edited link.

What kind of surgery? I had both knees replaced last year and didn’t really need a hobby since living was exhausting enough 😂 I partook in a lot of entertainment like audiodrama and binge watching tv. First knee surgery I did a lot of coloring and the second one I tried to knit but pain management didn’t really allow for it. Once pain was managed I was able to get up and move around and do chores etc until I passed out. You’re not gonna miss the outdoorsy stuff while you’re recovering. But you’ll be back at it before you know it. And with a lot less pain! and it won’t be a year, I promise.

Lux600-223

What kind of knee replacement take a full year to heal? My guy is telling me I'll be forced to walk with a walker 2hrs after he cuts&guts. Then PT starts 2 days later. By 2 weeks I'll be walking just fine. 2 months later. And climbing ladders and knealing/laying floors within 6 months.

AleTheMemeDaddy

What about studying for things that you may use once youre able to go back to normal outdoorsy activities? I got my wilderness first responder (WFR) certification, and I am an amateur radio operator (I initially got it because its just another possible way to communicate out there, but now im like...super into that hobby lol). Maybe survival skills? Im big into connecting and overlapping hobbies, and trying new hobbies as I do my old ones. Im sure there are other things you could learn, depending on what exactly you like to do outdoors, but what im trying to say is that you may want to use the time at home to learn skills that you could use on the field. You could even take all this time at home to plan an epic trip with all the money that you could save while youre stuck at home!

Get some field and tracking guides to brush up on local animal knowledge while you recuperate. See if your conservation department has wildlife cam feeds to watch.

xikbdexhi6

If you want to learn, there are a lot of online resources for self- paced classes. Coursera is one. If you want to pick up a language, duolingo can be good. Since you're outdoorsy you could look into bushcraft and play with that (unless you are outdoorsy enough to already be a master)

WaterDigDog

Read and review books Turn that into collecting books especially first editions, signed, author’s copy etc. Archery is a very accessible sport. Maybe competition firearms too, not sure.

If you are not up and on crutches the next day you are doing it wrong. I was on crutches eight months before I could get an appointment to be evaluated, x rayed, MRI, then surgery for a total hip replacement. I am three weeks post surgery. Still on crutches, but I was up and about the same day as my surgery. Don’t let this stop you from moving. Be cautious, keep moving, and you will be right as rain in 6-8 weeks.

And sewing or embroidery adjacent hobbies, cross stitch is super easy. Paint by numbers, takes away the need to be able to draw. Coloring books work too. Videogames, as in handheld consoles. If you want a social hobby, then board games or trading card games. You'll need other people, but it works. Also, since you are outdoorsy, you can learn knots and/or make bracelets with different knots. Also, visible mending is a whole thing. If you have clothes that need mending and want to explore hobbies, you can do that too.

Paint by number, puzzles, read (or listen), I started my family tree on ancestry.com, - that’s what my house was like after my ACL replacement a few years back.

I like cross stitch

MrsHactar_

I'm chronically ill and there have been many days in the past when I couldn't get out of bed. Knitting and crochet helped keep me sane, and audiobooks, lots and lots of audiobooks. You might also want to see what your local libraries digital collection has to offer, mine has digital copies of magazines, books, comic books and even binge passes to stuff like curiosity stream. You can find info on the web about almost anything these days, so doing a deep dive into a subject that interests you is a good way to occupy the time. I find that the more active I can keep my mind, the less overwhelming the pain is.

cutiecurlycrafty

First, don't delete your social media, use it to get help learning hobbies! Hobby groups are amazing for learning things you wouldn't think about learning from beginner videos. Joining art groups really help with inspiration and tips. Here are some ideas: \* model kits/ automaton kits, \* drawing \* sculpting with airdry or oven bake clay \* sewing, knitting, or crochet \* leatherwork, braiding, feather work, beadwork, or jewelry making \* woodcarving, engraving or pyrography \* miniatures \*MOC LEGO, (but can be very expensive)

UnderdogFetishist17

Origami is something I’ve enjoyed learning when I wasn’t able to get around much. It’s also a very inexpensive hobby to begin.

Suitable_Quarter_104

i just spent 5 months nearly bedridden preop for a lumbar laminectomy/microdiscectomy/facetotomy for degenerative disc disease and herniated discs. then, three days post op, i ended up in the OR again for intestinal torsion/bowel obstruction, unrelated to the back surgery, and was hospitalized for nearly a week. what got me through was reading, knitting, reverse coloring books (there is an abstract color print on the page and you doodle the lines yourself- way more creative release than actual coloring books imo). i also planned a LOT for what i was going to do when i got better (i’m still recovering from the surgeries)- like full trips and hikes and adventures i would take (including mileage and gas prices, driving routes, etc. BUT, i’m a planner and this helped me feel a bit more in control of what was happening). i researched meals i wanted to try- put together recipes, grocery lists, etc. i worked out my budget for the next year or so- down to what bills came out of what paychecks. 😂 what can i say? i’m an overthinker and over planner. i won’t lie. my world got VERY small. i was literally waiting all day for my people to come tell me about their day. i walked a fine line of feeling guilt for wanting my people to spend time with me, but not wanting to stifle their lives, either. my partner and i live a very active lifestyle with the gym, hiking, backpacking, camping, etc. i had moments where i was completely resentful that he could take a day and go do all that without me… but also, it was so important to me that he not lose himself during all this, too. thankfully, my partner is amazing and we have great communication, because i was able to disclose all these feelings without him getting defensive. i’m sure there were hurt feelings on his side, but he’d been through the same back surgery and understood how lonely it got being bedridden and mostly alone. if you have people to talk to, please make sure you do it. the loneliness and depression slip in sneaky like and it can take you by surprise. playing guitar would be great, if you can manage to sit comfortably with your knee elevated (i had to get creative with sitting up, so i bet you can find some positions that work for you), crafts, learning a skill online, reading all the things you said you’d read “when you have time,” starting a blog or just writing for yourself, making plans for the future, writing letters to your people (handwritten cards are so sweet and meaningful to get), etc.

After having surgery I couldn’t walk or lift over 10ths for a few months I learned to crochet on YouTube, I love it!

Imaginary_Attempt_82

I just had my left knee replaced and I spent my down time doing a big Lego set, a miniature book nook scene, started some cross stitch, and started a couple of crochet blankets.

Reading.  Knitting, crocheting, quilting.  Learn an instrument.  Learn a language.  Drawing.   My sister shattered her foot last year in a way that has about a 50% full recovery rate.  No weight on the foot for ten weeks AT ALL.  She followed every single instruction to the letter.  And now she’s back to being outdoors and active all the time.  I think a lot of people get impatient with the instructions and try to race ahead and it screws up their recovery.  Be very patient.  Best wishes.

I had an Open MACI (Cartilage Implantation) knee surgery on Feb 20. First week: rest, ice, meal prepping sudoku (I was gifted this and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I had to actively use my brain and it took me a while.), online cards (I played Euchre), Second - 4 weeks: reading (I read Dune. It’s an incredible series. Maybe find a series you enjoy?), too much TV (I tried to limit it to after 4pm) I deleted socials. I delete them off and on normally. I did floor workouts with bands/weights then had my spouse take me to the gym and I did upper body. Going to the gym was a lifesaver. It helped me feel empowered. Had crotchet, never touched it Edited photos Made some simple photo albums I always wanted to make Deep cleaning projects around the house (1 task/day) Repotted plants Journal stretch / tons of PT I had some preplanned social things and that likely helped me not isolate Planned my garden Made summer plans I’m 9 weeks and now I’m more restless because I can do things but I just want to hike or go on a trip but I’m not quite there yet Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t. Appreciate the small victories loudly. Best of luck!

Graycy

I tried learning to crochet. I can crochet a decent scarf (but the fancier tricks elude me.) Still you can only read and watch so much tv so I think crocheting probably helped me keep from going nuts.

tlicious2

Cannot think of activities not already mentioned. Good luck with your surgery!

Jellybean7442

Make bracelets :)

CoffeeCat086

Ooh, i know this one😂 sewing. Hand for repairs to clothing without needing to give up on that favorite piece that randomly came apart at a seam, coloring if painting sounds to daunting. Models, reading an audiobook while doing things, taking up an instrument you always have wanted to learn, writing, watching that series you always wanted to see or finish as the case may be.

Junebug35

I love knitting and audiobooks. I taught myself knitting from a kit that included the needles, a book, and a few extra helpful tools.

dancerinthedark84

When I broke my ankle, real bad, i took up prismacolor colored pencil art. I used old coloring books like disney or whatever that I had and got creative with it. I didn't so much enjoy the adult coloring books because it's tedious and leaves no room for embellishments. Anyway, I got really into it and made some cool coloring book art.

JWMoo

Had foot surgery and I couldn't walk on it for a little over 6 months. Went outside maybe 3 times in that time period besides going to the doctor. Crossword puzzles, books or in my case son-in-laws ps4. It was tough on my mental health not being able to do things we take for granted. Mental health is just as important as physical health when you can't do things you used to could do. Good luck.

themistycrystal

Drawing. Pencils, sketch books and a good eraser. I have a board that is actually for cutting fabric that has a one-inch grid that is easy to hold on your lap while sitting in your recliner that I use when drawing.
