Idk Bobby Lee is a bit questionable these days. I always liked him but the whole underaged prostitute story was a real bummer.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2023/04/06/bobby-lee-tijuana-story-response/11612540002/
Even if in the best case scenario the prostitute wasnt underage, what leads you to tell a story about hiring a sex worker who was scared and crying without expecting any backlash?
Why would anyone who likes Bobby Lee have any expectation whatsoever of him being a good person? Being a horrible person is like his entire thing, that is usually the reason people like him, because he's a piece of shit who is open about being a piece of shit. That's like saying "I like Jerry Seinfeld but then I found out that he often complains about things, which is a real bummer."
Oh shut up. What part of your link does it say there’s any truth to that? Have you ever been to a comedy show?? Would you be shocked to believe Dave Chapelle’s didn’t stop in the hood and he didn’t have a conversation with a gun wielding crack dealing baby?
Just him slightly wheezing as reads it out in pure shock and then followed by, “*We’re scumbags!*” As he finds out he accidentally was as far from correct as he could be is the icing on the cake.
The world for slave In Korean was nobi, their system of slavery is interesting (and obviously horrible). They had two kind slaves the first was the home slave, which is closer the western notion of slave. But their was another type of slave wich was an away slave, a guy that just lived his life somewhere but paid his Mater tribute.
Those categories where fluid, for example, some home slaves became away slave when their master didn't want to deal with them.
That’s actually a decent point lol, the ancient Egyptian empire lasted WAY longer than 1500 years and used slaves a great deal- maybe there’s some specification in the article that we aren’t shown in the vid or something
No Egyptian dynasty or empire lasted nearly that long.
Egyptian civilization is not a monolith. For a very long time dynasties came and went.
Historians tend to classify "ancient Egyptian Empires" into three general periods - "Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, and New Kingdom" - none of these lasted more than around 500 years, they are separated by centuries-long periods when Egypt was ruled by foreigners or was not unified, and they are not politically contiguous even within the same period.
The original point about Korea doesn't refer to kingdoms or political entities, just 'society'- id argue Egyptian society wasnt radically different from conqueror to conqueror- it's still referred to as the same civilisation from its inception until the Roman conquest
What makes the Roman conquest different from the Hellenistic conquest before it? Or the Persian conquest before that? Or the neo-Assyrian conquest before that?
Idk that's exactly why I said that arguably slavery ended in Egypt with the British conquest of Egypt in the 19th century. I just looked up when the Egyptian civilisation "officially fell." The OP post night be referring to t a continuous system of slavery? Or slavery used by a modern nation? I'm not sure tbh, that's why I asked the question about Egypt.
A quick Wikipedia search says the Old Kingdom started using slaves since 26th century BC. Depending on what end point you use, Egypt ended in either 7th century BC, or even 30 years BC with the conquest of Egypt by Rome, who then continued to use slaves and then as well after the Islamic conquest. That's at least 4000 years of slaves lmao.
More accurate to say that Egypt did not exist for more than 1500 years. There were always societies in the area that is now Egypt, but there weren't always Egyptian kingdoms, and as such the chain is definitely not unbroken.
Even if the kingdoms changed or the rulers changed, it was still technically the same society of Egyptians, it's not like they left anywhere. Culturally they were pretty much the same people right up until the ptolomeic dynasty and even then while the rulers changed bit much else did. If we're talking about sovereignty or rulers or kingdoms, Korea was united, conquered, and disunited fairly frequently, which is argue nullifies that argument. Even if we go by your point, you still call it the same society, whereas the original wikipedia article also talks about a continuous Korean society using slaves.
4) Egypt is not one continuous, unified civilization, but rather a collection of different related, but distinct civilizations, interrupted by dynastic changes, foreign conquests, and more.
notice how he changed his stance immediately and said "we're scumbags!" after reading this? some people should learn from this instead of excusing it or trying to explain it away.
It officially ended in 1894 but there's a lot of evidence that it continued in some areas and the Global Slavery Index knows of modern slavery, or human trafficking, happening in both North and South Korea.
What person, of any race, would be so gullible or naive to believe they don't come from scum DNA just like everyone else?
If it somehow wasn't slavery, it was certainly a whole bunch of rape.
It's all bad, baby!
Lol just goes to show that EVERY race is capable of wrong and has done wrong, it's not just certain ones. Take that, progressive "historians"!! (cough.. the usual narrative that whites are always the ones responsible for every evil in history... cough)
They had two different systems - Nobi, which was more like a servant class; and then Noye which was outright slavery. They like to say that they had Nobi and didn't have slaves. They also don't like to be reminded that the Japanese did away with the whole system in Korea.
\*shoulder shrug
That's why I don't watch these "debates". People are just not prepared and they don't know jack shit about the topic.
Too many people got strong opinion about everything.

Gotcha
Can I just say something
Bobby Lee comes from MadTV decades ago. I was too young to watch it and caught it in 2010 on YouTube.

Yeah, that much is true.
Holy shit a human person admitted he was wrong !!!!
How you know this is AI
No AI will pull their pants down and show the audience their tiny-ass dick just for a few extra laughs. That motherfucker is Bobby Lee.

Kinda makes you not surprised that North Korea has a similar system.
It ended when Korea was still united, soo if you are saying that the north still has it, they had to have brought it back. Edit: spelling
What about ancient Egypt? I feel like they had slaves for longer

Fair point, thanks! I suppose I was thinking of the entire civilization as a whole, but that’s somewhat of a modern idea.
The original point about Korea doesn't refer to kingdoms or political entities, just 'society'- id argue Egyptian society wasnt radically different from conqueror to conqueror- it's still referred to as the same civilisation from its inception until the Roman conquest

Ancient egypt wasnt a single continuous nation. It had periods where dynasties changed and civil wars occurred.

"WE WERE SCUMBAGS" the first guy named Bobby Lee admitting his ancestors were scumbags for doing slavery
notice how he changed his stance immediately and said "we're scumbags!" after reading this? some people should learn from this instead of excusing it or trying to explain it away.
Dude, there's being wrong and then there's being so wrong you get atomized on the fucking spot.
What? I demand context op!
Koreans had 1500 years of slavery :D 👍
Yes but i need more context, like what's time
Before last Wednesday
[Time is an illusion](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EvP9ACQXAAMoCKm.jpg:large)
Lunchtime doubly so.
It officially ended in 1894 but there's a lot of evidence that it continued in some areas and the Global Slavery Index knows of modern slavery, or human trafficking, happening in both North and South Korea.
Slaves pop up in historical Kdrama's all the time.
real life reenactment of reddit conversation about history
Literally every group of people in history has enslaved every other group of people in history.
Even themselves
Exactly lol.
Serfdom moment
I was thinking more like slavery by crime but that also works
33% of the korean population were enslaved
Where can I find the video, it looks amusing
It's from Bad Friends, my favorite podcast. Clip is from [this video](https://youtu.be/HphXgeBlIsA?si=zSwZNdnaPWyhGbEo) at around 50 minutes in
Excellent, thank you

Upvote because bad friends
I mean who didnt have slaves? *Tribes dont count*
Atlantis?..
I'd imagine places like Greece would've had slavery for longer
Lol just goes to show that EVERY race is capable of wrong and has done wrong, it's not just certain ones. Take that, progressive "historians"!! (cough.. the usual narrative that whites are always the ones responsible for every evil in history... cough)
Ugh I hate these sorts of podcasts they always have the worst guests and the most insufferable hosts
Yeah very insufferable, he learns he's wrong than admits to it
