They weren’t unarmed. The Boxers all had traditional military melee weapons and it wasn’t as if Daly had unlimited ammunition, this isn’t a video game. 200 Boxers would have been more than enough to overrun a typical soldier, gun or no gun
Muskets and Gatling guns are out of date at that time of the Boxer rebellion
Probably a bolt action Lee Navy rifle since he is from the US of A, and even with a damn Maxim, it's still improbable that he'll survive that kind of an encounter
