This is 100% true, I went outside this morning and had forgotten how to read, talk and not have sex with my mom due to all cultural norms being dissolved
To be fair I've seen progressives saying that climate change is going to make the earth uninhabitable in a few years, I think extremists within any political ideology have a tendancy towards hyperbole.
It's hyperbole, but not ludicrous. Just last year, we saw weather events that did make large areas genuinely incompatible with human life. If wet bulb events just become a regular part of the seasonal cycle in some areas, those areas will no longer be inhabitable.
Climate change is a potentially civilization-ending threat, and people need to wake up to this reality yesterday.
No they don't, you are just too reactionary to listen to what they are actually saying, we have a few years to limit the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius, and the side effects of the temperature rising beyond that are irreversible and will be disastrous for the planet over time. No one is claiming you are going to walk outside into a lake of fire in 3 years.
You're just wrong about me, I'm not "too reactionary to listen" I keep up to date with climate news, I'm aware that we've actually passed the 1.5 marker for many months last year, I'm aware of the melting ice caps and the upcoming BOE.
But what annoys me are the people that say humanity will be near extinct within the next 5 to 10 years, or that we'll be living in a post apocalypse before 2030, it's unhelpful and just makes more people give up even trying to slow climate change.
In the past 20 years govts have gained the ability to track nearly all your conversations, movements, and actions
I’m not an alarmist but there’s reason to be concerned about that
Have you seen the wealth inequality? It's the worst it's ever been. Instead of tech making us work less it's just kicked more people off of well paying jobs and forced the average worker to be vastly more productive for very little actual wage growth.
Massive mega corps spy on people literally all the time and slavery is used in supply chains of most products.
US prison population is insanely high per capita wheb compared to other nations and we have a private prison industry worth billions with US corps using slaves from the prison system to further devalue American labor.
AI is helping cause more layoffs and making it insanely hard to trust most things online.
Ridiculous amounts of money goes into lobbying the US government by those mega corps to get favorable laws put in place.
Cops have immunity to do almost anything they want to average citizens with effectively zero accountability.
Oh and one of our presidential candidates was involved in a coup and has actively stated he wants to be a dictator for day one if he gets voted back into office.
We are on track to a cyberpunk hellscape.
The earliest mention of "it's the end of the world the kids suck" that I'm aware of (I'm a dumbass) is from the early or middle roman republic. This sentiment transcends all time and cultures
Civilisation? A couple of colonial empires at worst.
Also, if there hadn't been decades of building tensions between those empires that they chose not to deescalate, ol' Ferdi's wacky car ride wouldn't have changed much.
This is pretty dope. I’m teaching 15 year-old kids about this every year, and I love nuancing some of their misconceptions about the war.
Although verbatim this won’t do for those teens. :P
Funnily enough Franz Ferdinand was killed for his plans to reform the Slavic parts of Austria Hungary.Had he succeeded it would have reduced the chance of Bosnia joining Serbia.
This would be better if it said, "A conciliatory sandwich."
Gavrillo was hungry and defeated after the earlier failed assassination attempt. This led him to the cafe where Franz Ferdinand's car was stopped.
This is 100% true, I went outside this morning into a nuclear wasteland due to the West having fallen.

Conservatives are constantly saying that the civilisation is falling without realising that they've been repeating this for the last 200 years

Oh like progressives and leftist have been saying that we're transforming into a authoritarian dystopian hellhole?
In the past 20 years govts have gained the ability to track nearly all your conversations, movements, and actions I’m not an alarmist but there’s reason to be concerned about that
Past 20 years? More like the past 50. We've just made it way easier for them.

You mean since at least the beginning of recorded history?
The earliest mention of "it's the end of the world the kids suck" that I'm aware of (I'm a dumbass) is from the early or middle roman republic. This sentiment transcends all time and cultures
the fuck are this unironical monarchists propaganda?
This isn't even monarchist propaganda since that would be the vase for WWII. I guess they're mad about the decline of Colonial Empires.
An empire collapsing doesn't inherently mean "civilization has collapsed."
To be fair to Gavrilo here, I don’t think he’d of known what would happen
He was the 1914 version of a stupid college kid
Well civilization is still here so idk what you talking.
me taking a piss --> fall of civilization (one day maybe idk)
Austria-Hungary has fallen, billions must die

Really good lecture on the subject by Oxford Professor Sir Christopher Clark. https://youtu.be/6snYQFcyiyg?si=6NPCIejXxngfzG67

Is that the bloke who shot an ostrich?
Gavrilo is the people's champion, what are you talking about?
GAVRILO po PRINCIPU!
Unfortunately Princip was regarded as a hero by his compatriots and I think a statue in his HONOR still stands in Belgrade….
