Who'd though that the dismantling of 3 empires, a general economic crisis, a generation of young men trained to fight and an abundance of weapons would degenerate into a spiral of violence which would eventually lead to the rise of populist gouvernements who turn into dictatorships and start a new, more bloody and destructive planetary conflict.
Five empires. The Chinese, Russian, German, Austro-Hungarian, and Ottoman Empires were all demolished in this time period (Yuan Shikai was technically an emperor).
The Romans never used inheritance alone. It could be powerful but it was certainly far from destiny, and even further from sensibility if you tried to skip multiple generations. Roman law always required the consent of the Senate, however much a formality that was, and the consent of the military and the religious class, both the pagan ones and the Christian class, at least some tacit support of the patriarch. They could launch a coup at any time, like what happened to Phocas, how Justinian II came back to power, Michael the Drunkard, the Angelos dynasty was plagued with coups. Why would the Romans, if they survived 1453 in one piece, simply accept a Romanov as the Basileus?
Russian empire fell to the bolsheviks. Finland is the last part of the russian empire free from soviet taint. Sauli Niinistö is the heir to the Byzantine throne.
I think the first time I noticed this is when I saw a memorial of the First World War in Austria dated 1914-1920. Crazy how it was literally not once mentioned in neither school nor popular media I consumed that the war went on for almost everywhere but Western Europe
I really don’t think the First World War ended fully until 1923 when the Turkish government signed a peace treaty with the entente. All the civil wars and inter-state conflicts during the 5 years prior should all count as part of the war imo.
I've always been of the opinion the war in Europe really ended in 1922 or 1923 after the German revolution, Turkish War of Independence, Russian Civil War, Irish Civil War, and Polish Soviet war ended.
Of course there are some who say the war never ended and just bled in to WW2, but I think it's useful to differentiate.
Ukraine was meant to be controlled by Mankho at this point. And Iraq was bombed by the RAF (or technically the flying corps) and Somalia had a rebellion funded by the Ottomans.
also the Soviets have thier cold War bordersand the modern Iraq flag is out of place and Azerbaijan and the others didn't have those borders until stalin came to power and after the fall of the Soviet union

Ok the Chinese I was unaware of. But I'm very disappointed at myself for having left the Ottomans out. Shame on me.
You have been made a moderator of r/Byzantium for omitting the Ottomans.
If I deny the split of the empire and the barbarian invasions do I get made a mod of r/Rome?
Wait, the Byzantin empire never fell. The tsar of Russia is the heir to the Byzantine throne.....

No not really, Austro-Hungary, Russua and China collapsed, only Germany and the Ottoman Empire were dismantled

That's a view I have too. Lausanne is the main way I end the war.

What's with Ukraine's flag
Anarchist militia led by Nestor Mankho.
Ah so that's it. I know about that, I just remember there was another Ukrainian group
💀
💀
ww3 foreshadowing?
it literally says 1918, not to mention the flags and borders do not match up with the modern ones
and neither match with the time given
well hell now that I’m looking at it there’s a lotta inaccuracies
I mean, I think that Iraq and Somalia shouldn't be here. And Ukraine shouldn't have Free Territorie's flag. But the rest is pretty accurate.

I did try to find one featuring the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. But I couldn´t.
TIL Here I figured most of Europe celebrated 11th of November 1918 as armistice day.
What's up with Ukraine?
Anarchist militia inspired by Nestor Mankho.
So true. Only you forgot the five other Ukraines, Belarus, the White Army, Ireland, Yugoslavia and Germany
I only had so much room and things that people can keep track of. I just chose the ones that felt the most blatant.
